Meghan Markle has hit back at critics after it emerged that the Duchess of Sussex’s given first names ‘Rachel Meghan’ were removed from son Archie’s birth certificate. The Duchess rebuked suggestions that she had wanted to be “nameless” on her own child’s birth certificate, before adding that the Palace asked for her to make the change.  Speaking on This Morning, Julia Hartley-Brewer mocked the Meghan Markle birth certificate row.

On the original certificate for Archie, registered on May 17, 2019, the Duchess gave her name as “Rachel Meghan Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex”.

However, less than a month later, the Duke and Duchess submitted changes to their names, with Meghan’s name “corrected” to merely read “Her Royal Highness Duchess of Sussex”.

Ms Hartley-Brewer said: “Surely, is there anyone, anyone at all who actually cares about this?

“I don’t even understand why their titles are included in terms of the names.”

This Morning host Holly Willoughby responded: “I think she cares about it, doesn’t she? I think everyone has a right to be represented fairly.

“That’s a really simple thing that every human being wants and desires, and she is the same.”

Ms Hartley-Brewer said: “I just had Julia Hartley-Brewer on the birth certificate for my daughter, I didn’t put Empress of the World on mine either.

“Does it really matter in the big scheme of things? The fact that everything this woman does becomes front page news.

“I’m not a fan of hers particularly but I think people need to give her a break.”

In response to the reports, a spokeswoman for the Duchess of Sussex said: “The change of name on public documents in 2019 was dictated by The Palace, as confirmed by documents from senior Palace officials.

“This was not requested by Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex nor by The Duke of Sussex.”

Days after Apple shut down Facebook’s developer certificate, disabling the company’s internal iOS apps, the two companies have now seemingly buried the hatchet.

“We have had our Enterprise Certification, which enables our internal employee applications, restored,” Facebook said in a statement sent to Ars and other media outlets. “We are in the process of getting our internal apps up and running. To be clear, this didn’t have an impact on our consumer-facing services.”

As Ars reported earlier Thursday, the Developer Enterprise Program allows for iOS apps that remain off the App Store but are locally distributed only.

  • President Donald Trump is reportedly reviving a controversial crusade that thrust him into the political spotlight. He is again questioning the authenticity of President Barack Obama’s birth certificate.
  • At least one senator who listened to Trump raise doubts says that he had a hard time letting go of the conspiracy.

In the midst of a growing number of women coming forward alleging sexual misconduct from prominent political figures, President Donald Trump has reportedly questioned his own scandals, and is reviving the conspiracy theory that thrust him into a political spotlight.

Speaking to senators and advisers in private, Trump reportedly brought up his doubts about the legitimacy of President Barack Obama’s birth certificate, according to a New York Times report published Tuesday. The Obama birth certificate question is a conspiracy theory Trump has floated since long before his 2016 presidential campaign.

After questioning Obama’s citizenship for several months during the campaign, Trump appeared to finally put the topic to rest in September 2016 by saying “Obama was born in the United States, period.”

Trump also went a step further, blaming his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton for allegedly spreading the birther theory: “Hillary Clinton and her campaign of 2008 started the birther controversy,” Trump said at the time. “I finished it. I finished it. You know what I mean.”

But according to at least one lawmaker in The Times’ report, the subject is all but dead. One senator who listened to Trump rekindle the topic appeared amused, saying that Trump had difficulty in letting go of his previous assertions.

Trump’s own staff have also been found to prod lawmakers in asking questions to steer him towards more suitable topics for discussion, according to The Times.

In addition to questioning Obama’s birth certificate, Trump has floated a verifiably false theory that he lost the popular vote during the 2016 presidential election, due to widespread voter fraud, The Times reported.

“It’s dangerous to democracy,” Republican Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona, said. “You’ve got to have shared facts.”

We have a little problem on the web right now and I can only see it becoming a larger concern as time goes by: more and more sites are obtaining certificates, vitally important documents needed to deploy HTTPS, but we have no way of protecting ourselves when things go wrong.

Certificates

We’re currently seeing a bit of a gold rush for certificates on the Web as more and more sites deploy HTTPS. Beyond the obvious security and privacy benefits of HTTPS, there are quite a few reasons you might want to consider moving to a secure connection that I outline in my article Still think you don’t need HTTPS?. Commonly referred to as “SSL certificates” or “HTTPS certificates”, the wider Internet is obtaining them at a rate we’ve never seen before in the history of the web. Every day I crawl the top one million sites on the Web and analyze various aspects of their security and every 6 months I publish a report. You can see the reports here, but the main result to focus on right now is the adoption of HTTPS.

Not only are we continuing to deploy HTTPS, the rate at which we’re doing so is increasing, too. This is what real progress looks like. The process of obtaining a certificate has become more and more simple over time and now, thanks to the amazing Let’s Encrypt, it’s also free to get them. Put simply, we send a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) to the Certificate Authority (CA) and the CA will challenge us to prove our ownership of the domain. This is usually done by setting a DNS TXT record or hosting a challenge code somewhere on a random path on our domain. Once this challenge has been satisfied the CA it issues the certificate and we can then present it to visitors’ browsers and get the green padlock and “HTTPS” in the address bar.
