LeBron James is approaching a deadline to decide whether to opt into his contract for next season or become a free agent.
James himself is facing a difficult decision as he surveys the NBA landscape and tries to find a team that fits all of his needs.See the rest of the story at Business Insider

Stephen Curry scored 37 points, NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant added 20 and a triple-double and the Warriors stamped themselves a dynasty after winning their second straight title and third in four years Friday night, 108-85 over the Cleveland Cavaliers to complete a sweep and perhaps drive LeBron James from his home again to chase championships.
Overcoming obstacles all season long, the Warriors were not going to be denied and won the fourth straight finals matchup against Cleveland with ease.
"This is so hard to do and doing it three out of four years is incredible," guard Klay Thompson said.
It was the first sweep in the NBA Finals since 2007, when James was dismissed by a powerful San Antonio team in his first one. His eighth straight appearance didn't go well either, and now there's uncertainty where the superstar will play next.
James, who said he broke his right hand in frustration following Game 1, finished with 23 points and spent the final minutes on the bench, contemplating what went wrong and maybe his next move.
Following the game, he sat quietly in his corner locker with a towel draped over his head. He arrived at his postgame news conference with a large brace on his right hand from a "self-inflicted" injury.
Act IV between the Warriors and Cavs featured a drama-filled and controversial Game 1. But from there on, Durant, Curry, Thompson, Draymond Green and the rest of this California crew showed why they're the game's gold standard.
And they may stay that way.

Golden State's Kevin Durant celebrates after defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers in four games. Durant won NBA Finals MVP. (Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)
"Can't get enough of this feeling so we're going to celebrate it together," Curry said.
Not wanting to give the Cavs or their fans any hope despite the fact that no team has ever overcome a 3-0 deficit in the NBA playoffs, the Warriors built a nine-point halftime lead when Curry ignored a closeout by James and dropped a 3-pointer.
Then the league's best team tightened the screws on Cleveland in the third quarter, outscoring the Cavs 25-13 and prompting Golden State fans to begin those drawn-out "War-eee-orrss" chants that provide a perfect musical accompaniment to their 3-point barrages.
By the start of the fourth quarter, the only question was whether Curry would win his first NBA Finals MVP or if it would go to Durant for the second year in a row.
And again, it was Durant, who added 12 rebounds and 10 assists — more satisfaction and validation for a player who couldn't beat the Warriors so he joined them.
After surviving a rougher-than-usual regular season and beating top-seeded Houston in Game 7 on the road in the Western Conference finals, the Warriors withstood a 51-point masterpiece by James in Game 1 and joined an elite group of teams to win multiple championships in a four-year span.
Only Bill Russell's Boston Celtics, the "Showtime" Lakers and the Los Angeles squad led by Kobe and Shaq, and Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls have been as dominant in such a short period of time.
The Dub Dynasty.
The path to this title was more precarious than the first two for coach Steve Kerr and the Warriors, who overcame injuries, expectations, a built-to-dethrone-them Rockets team and the brilliance of James, who scored 51 points in the series opener and carried a Cavs team from the beginning of their rollercoaster season until the end.
It may have been the final game in Cleveland for the 33-year-old, who is expected to opt out of his $ 35.6 million contract for 2019 next month and become a free agent.
James was pulled from the game with 4:03 left, and he slapped hands with the Warriors before heading to the bench. He averaged 34 points, 8.5 rebounds and 10 assists in the series, but as has been the case in the past, he didn't have enough help.
Another Summer of LeBron is officially underway and there are already teams stretching from Philadelphia to Los Angeles hoping to land the three-time champion, who may have to go elsewhere to put together a cast strong enough — and as James made clear this week, smart enough — to bring down the Warriors.
Right now, Golden State is on another tier and with Durant expected to re-sign with them in weeks and Curry, Thompson, Green and the rest still young and hungry, their reign could last much longer.
Heading into the playoffs, the Warriors appeared vulnerable. There were lingering questions about Curry's sprained left knee that sidelined him for almost six weeks and kept him out of a first-round series against San Antonio.
Kerr was forced to mix and match lineups, and it became obvious the Warriors weren't going to go 16-1 and storm their way to a title like they did in 2017, when their only post-season loss came in Game 4 after the Cavs made 24 3-pointers.
The Warriors began defence of their title as a No. 2 seed and their season was in serious jeopardy when they fell behind 3-2 to presumptive MVP James Harden and the Rockets. But Golden State, catching a break when Houston star guard Chris Paul was forced to sit with a hamstring injury, showed a champion's poise by winning two straight.
That set up another reunion with James and the Cavs.
Maybe the last.

Stephen Curry backpedaled in pure joy. He skipped, hollered and let the ball fly from everywhere with that feeling he gets when there's no way it will miss — unwavering even with a defender's hand in his face.
Curry dazzled in outdueling LeBron James as the two superstars traded big shots and celebratory moves, hitting an NBA Finals-record nine 3-pointers and scoring 33 points to lead the Golden State Warriors to a 122-103 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday night for 2-0 lead.

"Pretty special night," Curry said, "and hopefully some more special things happen and we get two more wins."
Kevin Durant found his steady stroke to score 26 points to go with nine rebounds and seven assists while also handling a load of the defensive assignment against James. Klay Thompson added 20 points playing on a tender left leg to put the defending champions two wins from a repeat title they have talked about since the season began last fall.
James followed up his 51-point performance in Game 1 with 29 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds in a far tamer finals sequel — and a much more lopsided one — minus the utter craziness of a drama-packed opener three days prior.
LeBron James finished Game 2 with 1,327 points in his #NBAFinals career. He now stands 2nd in NBA history, trailing only Jerry West. pic.twitter.com/Z95XhD94Wj

Game 3 is Wednesday night in Cleveland.
"We want to continue to be uncomfortable," James said. "Just because we're going home doesn't mean we can relax."
Kevin Love had 22 points and 10 boards for the cold-shooting Cavs, who will now try to gain some momentum back home.
Curry had the shot of the night with 7:54 to play, making an off-balance swish from several feet behind the 3-point arc over Love as the shot clock wound down, then scooted backward in delight. Curry fell into the first row of fans with a baseline 3 again over Love and four-point play at the 5:44 mark of the fourth.
"He's a big shot taker, big shot maker," Draymond Green said. "Tough shot taker, tough shot maker."
The long shot over Love stood out to Curry's Splash Brother, Thompson.
"About seven seconds on the clock he just kept going backward, I don't know why, but he just threw it up and I didn't think it had any chance of going in," Thompson said. "That was kind of like a dagger shot. It just gave us all the momentum back."
The two-time MVP made 11 of 26 shots and was 9 for 17 from deep.
James pointed with both hands after his 3 with 11:04 remaining got his team within seven, before Curry answered from deep the next two trips down the floor.
"Those moments when you can come down and answer and keep the momentum on our side, it's big," Curry said. "Keep the crowd into it."
Curry and James had a tense moment in the third, too.
James became irate at the officials for a no-call on Curry, who ran beneath the Cavs star and didn't let him land with 3:54 remaining in the quarter as James caught Love's long pass and went out of bounds. Cavs coach Tyronn Lue was hit with a technical, saying afterward he didn't say much but was on the court.
JaVale McGee scored 12 points, making all six of his shots in his first career NBA Finals start as Kerr made a lineup switch that proved spot on.
The typically efficient Durant connected on 10 of 14 shots after going just 8 for 22 — 1 of 7 on 3s — in the opener but still scoring 26 points.
Last year's NBA Finals MVP made his initial five field goals Sunday, driving right at James on offence and doing all he could to fluster him on defence.
James hit a 3 over Durant's outstretched arm midway through the third, then Tristan Thompson's basket the next possession pulled the Cavs within 72-66. But they couldn't contain Curry and the rest of the Warriors for extended stretches.
The Warriors vowed to make it harder for James to generate good looks after he shot 19 for 32 in the series opener, and James went 12:06 of game time between made baskets.
James went 10 for 20, showing few signs his shot was altered by a bloodshot left eye. He had been taking antibiotics and using drops after being poked in the eye by Green in the first half Thursday.

LeBron James had another tremendous performance in Game 2 of the NBA Finals, but once again it was all for naught as the Golden State Warriors won easily, 122-103, to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
One play, in particular, seems to perfectly sum up the Finals, especially LeBron’s lack of help, and the Cavs’ little chance of pulling off an upset.See the rest of the story at Business Insider

With another Game 7 victory at stake, LeBron James would not sit out.
He would not say goodbye to Cleveland again — not yet, anyway.
And he would not be denied an eighth straight trip to the NBA Finals.
The four-time league MVP scored 35 points with 15 rebounds and nine assists on Sunday night, leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to an 87-79 win over the Celtics and eliminating Boston from the Eastern Conference finals in the decisive seventh game.
"He's had a lot of gaudy games," Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue said. "But I just think Game 7, in Boston, all the circumstances that surround Boston, the history … to come here in a hostile environment: [it's] right there."
In the first close game, the lowest-scoring and the first victory for a road team in the series, James played all 48 minutes, scoring 12 of his points in the fourth quarter for his sixth straight Game 7 win. Lue used his timeouts to get his star an extra few minutes of rest when he could, and James didn't warm up at halftime to conserve his energy.
"It was asked of me tonight to play the whole game," he said. "And I just tried to figure out how I can get through it."
James played all 82 regular-season games for the first time in his career and is already at 100 for the year with at least four more to come. He tired late in Game 5, when the Celtics won their 10th straight at home this post-season.
Celtics coach Brad Stevens said the plan was to wear James out.
Nice try.
"Our goal going into the series was to make him exert as much energy as humanly possible and try to be as good as we can on everybody else," Stevens said. "For the most part, I thought we were pretty good at that … but he still scored 35. It's a joke."
For James, a potential free agent, the victory postponed a decision about his future until next month.
Now, the only question is who the Cavaliers will play for a chance at their second title in three years: The Rockets host Game 7 of the Western Conference finals against Golden State on Monday night, and the winner will host the opener of the NBA Finals on Thursday.
The Cavaliers are expected to be underdogs against either.
"We have an opportunity to play for a championship," James said. "It doesn't matter what the story line is going to be, it doesn't matter if we're picked to win or not. I'm the wrong guy to ask. I just like to compete."
Jayson Tatum scored 24 points, Al Horford had 17 and Marcus Morris added 14 points with 12 rebounds for the Celtics, who were looking to return to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2010.
Tatum had a dunk over James with 6:41 left — staring down the Cavaliers star and bumping him with his chest — then followed it with a 3-pointer that gave the Celtics a 72-71 lead. But that would be Boston's last basket for more than five minutes while Cleveland went on a 15-2 run to put the game away.
James embraced Horford and Tatum after the buzzer, then the Cavaliers donned celebratory hats and T-shirts before shuffling off the court to receive the Eastern Conference championship trophy.
It's not the one they want.
James has been in the finals every year since 2011 — four with Miami, and now four straight with Cleveland.
This might be his weakest supporting cast.
He had to do it without Kevin Love — Cleveland's only other all-star — who sustained a concussion in Game 6 and was replaced in the lineup by Jeff Green. Making his first start since the first-round opener against Indiana, Green scored 19 points and added eight rebounds — the star of James' starless supporting cast.
"We said we want to do this for Kevin," Lue said. "Kevin wanted to play, to be in a Game 7 situation like this in the Eastern Conference Finals, being an All-Star, being our second-best player, and he just wasn't able to go. The guys picked him up, so now he has another chance when we get to the finals to be ready."
The Celtics have had more time to get used to their injuries: Gordon Hayward has been out since the first game of the season, and Kyrie Irving has been sidelined since March. With the rookie Tatum and second-year Jaylen Brown, Boston established itself as the team of the future in the East.
"It was pretty incredible run by an incredible group of guys, and an absolute pleasure and privilege to be around them every day," Stevens said. "We obviously have a good thing going."
But the present still belongs to James.
And, for now, that means Cleveland, too.

With 3:50 remaining of the second quarter, Cleveland Cavaliers’ leading man James took a blow to the head from the left shoulder of Boston forward Jayson Tatum as he drove to the basket.
Amid concerns over a concussion with the four-time MVP looking dazed in the aftermath, James briefly went back into the locker room.
It was revealed that the 33-year-old had only suffered a neck strain and he returned to the floor with 1:57 left before half-time.
James had posted 24 points, four rebounds and four assists in his 16 minutes before the problem and went on to finish on a game-high 42 points with 12 assists and 10 rebounds to make up a triple-double.
But the Cavs fell to a 107-94 defeat at TD Garden which leaves them 2-0 down in the series and James’ hopes of an eighth straight NBA Finals in the balance.
Fortunately however, as the defending Eastern champions take the Conference Finals back to Cleveland, James is injury-free.
On the problem, James told reporters post-game: “I felt like I needed to go back to the locker room – which I did – to kind of recalibrate.
“It was a tough blow. Obviously incidental.
“His shoulder hit me right square in the jaw.
“I just wanted to go back to the back and make sure everything was fine.
“It didn’t affect my game after that.
“I was checked for multiple things and I passed them all, that’s why I was able to come back and finish the half.”
Game 3 takes place on Sunday at Quicken Loans Arena with tip-off at 1.30am UK time.
After attempting to go for a slam dunk, he took an elbow to the head by Jayson Tatum.
The four-time MVP looked dazed as he checked to see if he had been cut.
He then headed back to the locker room flanked by security with under four minutes remaining of the second quarter of Game 2 and was subsequently booed by the Celtics fans.
James suffered a neck strain during the clash which was confirmed by a reporter on the Cavs’ twitter page.
But luckily for Cavs supporters, he was passed fit to continue.
After re-emerging from the locker room, he replaced George Hill with two minutes remaining of the second quarter and he was aggressive as he posted 25 points before half-time.
He was 4-7 with his three-point field goal attempts.
After a dismal display in Game 1 in which he scored just 15 points, James was back to his fluent best.
James also produced six assists and four rebounds before the break.

LeBron James has long been known as having an insanely high Basketball IQ, but a recent story from former Cavaliers general manager David Griffin takes the mythology of James’ greatness to a whole new level.
Appearing as a guest on “The Bill Simmons Podcast” on Wednesday, Griffin began by describing James’ astounding aptitude for the game.See the rest of the story at Business Insider

Cleveland Cavaliers superstar James is averaging 34.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 8.8 assists in the post-season this season.
His latest highlight reel moment came with a buzzer-beater off the glass in a Game 3 win over the Toronto Raptors which puts Cleveland all-but into the Eastern Conference Finals.
They lead the Raptors 3-0 with four-time MVP James having almost single-handedly crushed the No 1 seed in a year in which it was expected Toronto would finally down their arch nemesis.
James has played over 40 of nine of the Cavs’ 10 playoff games so far this year going into an expected meeting with the Boston Celtics – where James’ former co-star Kyrie Irving now struts his stuff.
And Los Angeles Lakers hero Bryant, a five-time NBA champion, thinks that the 33-year-old has developed his game hugely.
“The tempo that he’s playing at, he is able to control the tempo of the game,” Bryant told Fox Sports Radio.
“The game, especially in the playoffs, is all built on momentum shifts.
“What he has been able to do in these playoffs is control the momentum, when it shifts, how it shifts.
“When teams go on big runs, he’s able to stop those momentums. It’s a very difficult thing to do and he’s been able to dominate that in this post-season.
“The way he’s being used right now is a little different to how he’s been used in the past. I think he’s understanding the importance of conserving energy.
“In the past they ran a lot of screen and rolls for him, a lot of angles, he’s out 35-40 feet from the hoop and then penetrating into the paint. You don’t really see that too much now.
“You see him operate at the elbows, you see him operating below the free-throw line, deep corner. From those positions, he can take one or two dribbles, raise up and shoot.
“[He can] Get to the spot, get to that right shoulder where he can fadeaway comfortably. He’s certainly evolved that in his game.
“He didn’t have that when he first came into the league. He’s evolved his ability to post and fade. It’s been serving him well.”
James can wrap up the Cavs’ semi-final series with the Raptors in Game 4 in Ohio tomorrow (1.30am UK time).
