Justice League SHOCK: Henry Cavill teases Superman RETURN – Is it Man of Steel 2? After Justice League flopped, Cavill’s future as Superman hasn’t been exactly clear.

But now the star has shared a new workout video on his Instagram where he’s teased he’s getting back into shape to play a certain Man of Steel.

He wrote: “Working on the Super Buns! Whiiiiiiich if you vote for me in the Teen Choice Awards and I end up winning then you may or may not see them in a tight blue outfit much sooner!

“But totally probably. As an aside, please ignore the fact that I’m also 6 months pregnant with a baby made up entirely of cookies and pizza.”

Speaking to LA Times, Cavill said: “There’s a wonderful opportunity to tell the Superman story.

“Now there is a fantastic chance to show Superman in his full colours and tell a very complex, character-driven movie that is based on story and have that wonderful sensation of hope and happiness.”

A feel-good movie with lessons laced in there as well.”

‘Justice League’ Brings Back The “Classic” Superman, and Henry Cavill Couldn’t Be Happier About His Future https://briefnews.eu/justice-league-brings-back-the-classic-superman-and-henry-cavill-couldnt-be-happier-about-his-future/ https://briefnews.eu/justice-league-brings-back-the-classic-superman-and-henry-cavill-couldnt-be-happier-about-his-future/#respond Sun, 26 Nov 2017 22:17:06 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/justice-league-brings-back-the-classic-superman-and-henry-cavill-couldnt-be-happier-about-his-future/ Man of Steel sequels

While some hardcore DC movie fans insist that Warner Bros. should continue to make dark and gritty superhero movies, at least one of the franchise’s actors is embracing the opportunity to return to a more traditional depiction of his character. Henry Cavill, who has played Superman in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Justice League, explains how the change his character undergoes in the latter DC Comics movie gives him a huge opportunity to depict the classic version of Superman in possible Justice League or Man of Steel sequels.

It’s no secret that Cavill’s Superman has thus far largely been a mopey, sullen sourpuss. The character received a lot of criticism for destroying a city and ultimately snapping General Zod’s neck in Man of Steel, and for his generally unpleasant demeanor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a movie in which he seems to again reject the core tenants of the character as we know him from older movies and the comics.

After Superman’s – spoiler alert – resurrection in Justice League, and a brief sojourn to Smallville where Lois Lane settles him down after that shocking experience, the Superman we see in the rest of the movie is totally different than the one Cavill’s played previously. He shows a desire to protect civilians, takes charge in the fight against Steppenwolf, and even cracks a smile or two along the way. (/Film’s Chris Evangelista wrote a great editorial about how Justice League finally gets Superman right, and I encourage you all to read it.)

Henry Cavill recognizes the shift in tone: “This movie highlights the qualities of Superman that exist in the comic books. That’s something I’ve always been very keen to highlight in the character,” he told The Los Angeles Times in a recent interview. “This rebirth provided the opportunity for me to play those characteristics.” He continued:

“I’ve always enjoyed the traditional, very classic view on Superman in the comic books. I think there’s an enormous complexity to that character. I know when I was working with Joss [Whedon] he and I saw eye-to-eye on some of the aspects of Superman. That paragon of hope. That ideal. That wonderful feeling of, ‘Oh, good, Superman’s here!’ I have also developed a very personal and protective relationship over this character, and it was just lovely to have the opportunity to smile and feel good.”

Notice how he mentions that classic ideal was Whedon’s doing, not Snyder’s? That’s Exhibit 206 in the ongoing case of “Zack Snyder Doesn’t Understand Superman.”

Cavill, who is still contracted for another movie and could possibly return for even more beyond that, sees Justice League’s radical reinvention as the first step on a road to redemption for this character:

“There’s a wonderful opportunity to tell the Superman story. Now there is a fantastic chance to show Superman in his full colors and tell a very complex, character-driven movie that is based on story and have that wonderful sensation of hope and happiness. A feel-good movie with lessons laced in there as well.”

Whether that will happen in Justice League 2, Man of Steel 2, or as a supporting role in another DC hero’s main movie remains to be seen, but it sounds like Superman – the real Superman, the one who doesn’t think twice about saving innocent people or doing the right thing – is finally here, and that can only be a good sign for the future of the DC cinematic universe.

Justice League: Superman return CONFIRMED as Henry Cavill teases next movie https://briefnews.eu/justice-league-superman-return-confirmed-as-henry-cavill-teases-next-movie/ https://briefnews.eu/justice-league-superman-return-confirmed-as-henry-cavill-teases-next-movie/#respond Tue, 21 Nov 2017 12:23:04 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/justice-league-superman-return-confirmed-as-henry-cavill-teases-next-movie/

In a new interview, the star revealed that he is contractually obliged to play the iconic superhero again, calling it a “wonderful opportunity” to continue the tale.

His character was famously killed off in Batman V Superman, and (spoiler alert) it was one of the worst-kept secrets in movie history that he was resurrected in Justice League.

Speaking to LA Times, Cavill said: “There’s a wonderful opportunity to tell the Superman story.

“Now there is a fantastic chance to show Superman in his full colours and tell a very complex, character-driven movie that is based on story and have that wonderful sensation of hope and happiness.”

He added: “A feel-good movie with lessons laced in there as well.”

The DCEU isn’t out of the woods yet, however, with a growing pile of critically panned movies to try and overcome.

To date, Wonder Woman is the only undisputed success of the bunch, although 2013’s Man of Steel performed reasonably well at the box office despite a 55% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Suicide Squad, Batman V Superman and now Justice League, however, have all done poorly in reviews.

Also still to come are Aquaman (2018), Shazam! (2019), Wonder Woman 2 (2019), Cyborg (2020) and Green Lantern Corps (2020), with Flashpoint also expected at some point in the foreseeable future.

The Batman, Gotham City Sirens, Nightwing and Suicide Squad 2 are also on the cards.

Justice League is out now.

Henry Cavill Concedes That the DCEU Has Had Some Problems https://briefnews.eu/henry-cavill-concedes-that-the-dceu-has-had-some-problems/ https://briefnews.eu/henry-cavill-concedes-that-the-dceu-has-had-some-problems/#respond Wed, 01 Nov 2017 14:30:35 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/henry-cavill-concedes-that-the-dceu-has-had-some-problems/ Henry Cavill on the DCEU

It has proven surprisingly difficult for some fans to admit the DCEU has had some problems creating their own cinematic universe. But now, a surprising supporter of this idea has surfaced: Superman himself, Henry Cavill. In a candid new interview, Cavill concedes that the DCEU has made mistakes in the past, and that he hopes Wonder Woman is the first step towards remedying them.

The seemingly never-ending conflict between Marvel Cinematic Universe and DCEU fans can sometimes get completely out of hand, breaking down into angry name-calling and accusations of bribery (yeah, it’s weird). While the MCU has found its groove, the DCEU has stumbled a bit. And before you accuse me of being on the MCU payroll for saying such a thing, let me introduce you to the recent words of Mr. Henry Cavill.

Cavill plays Superman in the DCEU, and he’ll next be appearing as the character in Justice League (despite what the trailers tell you). In a refreshingly frank and open new interview with The Rake Magazine, Cavill admits that the DCEU – which so far consists of Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and Wonder Woman – has had a few rough patches on its way to Justice League. Cavill believes that the DCEU was going for a certain style, and that that style hasn’t necessarily worked out:

“Even if Marvel didn’t exist, we’d struggle. There was a style they [DC] were going for, an attempt to be different and look at things from a slightly different perspective, which hasn’t necessarily worked. Yes, it has made money but it has not been a critical success; it hasn’t given everyone that sensation which superheroes should give the viewer.”

This is an incredibly honest answer, and I applaud Cavill for going there. Yes, the DCEU films have been mostly successful at the box office, but the stories they’re telling have mostly been muddled, miserable slogs. There’s nothing wrong with dark superhero movies – just look at the highly successful and highly acclaimed Dark Knight trilogy. The secret is to find a way to counter-balance that darkness, especially if you’re telling stories about ultimately heroic characters who are meant to inspire hope in the viewer.

But all is not lost! DC found new life with the very enjoyable Wonder Woman, and Cavill thinks that might have been the turning point:

“I think it is a wonderful time for the female hero. It is the perfect setting in social politics right now, we need it, we want that perspective, and Wonder Woman has struck at the ideal time and has become a phenomenal success, which is fantastic. Any success within the superhero universe, especially within the DC Universe, is wonderful, because I want to keep telling the Superman story; selfishly, that works for me.”

Wonder Woman wasn’t entirely without its flaws, but gosh darn it, it was so entertaining, and had such a positive, powerful message, that those flaws were easy to overlook. If DC can keep that up, they’ll be in much better shape. Which is exactly what Cavill is hoping for as the DCEU continues onward with Justice League and beyond:

“I feel like now the right mistakes have been made and they haven’t been pandered [to], and we can start telling the stories in the way they need to be told. It is even better to come back from a mistake or stylistic error into the correct vein because it will make it seem that much stronger. Wonder Woman was the first step in the right direction.”

Again, this is an overall refreshing interview, and it confirms that Cavill actually does have a good grasp on how to make the DCEU, and Superman, work. I really do believe Cavill could make a great modern-day Superman, if DC would just get the hell out of his way and let the character be a symbol of hope instead of a brooding loner who keeps questioning why he has to be hero. Like Cavill, I’m hopeful DC has learned from their mistakes, and that they’ve rectified them for both Justice League and any films they have for the future.

Justice League hits theaters November 17, 2017.

POTD: The First-Ever Photo of Henry Cavill as Superman Wearing Christopher Reeves’ Costume https://briefnews.eu/potd-the-first-ever-photo-of-henry-cavill-as-superman-wearing-christopher-reeves-costume/ https://briefnews.eu/potd-the-first-ever-photo-of-henry-cavill-as-superman-wearing-christopher-reeves-costume/#respond Sat, 08 Apr 2017 07:53:53 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/potd-the-first-ever-photo-of-henry-cavill-as-superman-wearing-christopher-reeves-costume/ Man of Steel Costume Test photo

“I knew when I saw him he was my Superman,” director Zack Snyder says of Henry Cavill, who was cast as Clark Kent/Superman over six years ago. How exactly did the actor land the life-altering role? By dressing up in a replica of the Superman suit Christopher Reeve wore.

Snyder recently shared a photo of Cavill in the costume and you can check out the Man of Steel costume test photo below.

Not all actors are convincing in a cape and spandex. Not even some of the best of them can pull it off. Cavill, though, with his strong build and square-jaw almost looks like he leaped off the comic book pages to play Superman. It’s as if he was was genetically engineered to play a superhero.

Here’s the pic the director posted on Vero (via Heroic Hollywood):

Henry Cavill photo

Cavill’s audition took place after he shot The Cold Light of Day, where he starred alongside Bruce Willis. The actor wasn’t as muscular as he is now, but Snyder thought he still achieved the desired effect:

If you can put on that suit and pull it off that’s an awesome achievement… He walked out, and no one laughed. Other actors put that suit on, and it’s a joke, even if they’re great actors. Henry put it on, and he exuded this kind of crazy-calm confidence that just made me go ‘Wow.’ Okay: This was Superman.’

Cavill described what was going through his head at the time: “They’re going to look at me and go, ‘He’s not Superman. Not a chance.’ The actor inside me was going: You’re not ready! You’re not ready!“

In the years since that day, we’ve seen him play Superman twice. The first time around, he was convincing as the hero. The second time, in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, he was working with a lesser script and had a few too many scenes cut. When the actor returns as Superman in this year’s Justice League, he’ll be coming back from the dead and may act a little different. Considering how much lighter the trailers are compared to Batman vs. Superman, maybe we’ll see a more charismatic version of the character, which Cavill, as proven by The Man From U.N.C.L.E., can certainly play.

Justice League opens in theaters November 17.

Justice League news: Is Superman EVIL? Theory suggests Henry Cavill plays the villain https://briefnews.eu/justice-league-news-is-superman-evil-theory-suggests-henry-cavill-plays-the-villain/ https://briefnews.eu/justice-league-news-is-superman-evil-theory-suggests-henry-cavill-plays-the-villain/#respond Mon, 27 Mar 2017 19:46:43 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/justice-league-news-is-superman-evil-theory-suggests-henry-cavill-plays-the-villain/

DC Comics favourite Superman, played by Henry Cavill, was nowhere to be seen, and a popular theory spreading online is that he will actually turn out to be the villain.

The character was ostensibly killed off in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, but it’s no secret that Cavill is seemingly returning to the part.

Writing on Twitter, one fan said: “I’m beginning to feel that Superman is the going to be (brainwashed) villain of #JusticeLeague Hope I’m wrong.”

Another speculated: “New theory: What if the reason we haven’t seen Superman in any #JusticeLeague trailers is because perhaps he’s resurrected as a villain?”

“Crazy theory: What if Superman is villain (for part of #JusticeLeague) & part of Bruce’s dream in BvS was prophecy? #justiceleaguetrailer,” mused a third.

Someone else said bluntly: “There is a Justice League movie and Superman is the main villain.”

Zack Snyder spoke openly about his handling of Superman in a recent interview, saying it’s been “fun” to figure out what to do about him.

“It’s hard to have a Justice League without Superman. That’s how I feel about it,” he said, according to Comicbook.com.

“It was always a super-intriguing concept to me to have this opportunity to have him make that sacrifice but also have him be this, in a weird sort of way, the why of Justice League: What do you do now with him? What does the team think? What does the world need?

“All that comes into play.”

He added: “It’s fun for us but it’ll be interesting for audiences what we do with him.”

Justice League is out on November 17.
