Kat gets a thorough introduction to cryptocurrency, humiliation kink and embracing her sexuality in this week’s Euphoria. And in the beaten-down teen psyche landscape that is this show, that’s a major win… even if she has to come face-to-fly-area with a micropeen in order to make it happen. Rue, though. This kid makes me ache. She is FICTIONAL, and yet I am SO WORRIED for her. But maybe, just maybe, she learns how to latch onto an ally at the end of this week’s episode? (Upspeak entirely intentional; I have no idea whether this glimmer of 12-step hope is going to last longer than it takes those pancakes to cook.) Read on for the highlights of “Made You Look.” AN ARCHIVE OF HER OWN | The summer Kat was 11, Rue’s voiceover tells us, her family went to Jamaica. We watch a flashback to that trip, during which Kat got stung by a jellyfish and learned she loved virgin piña coladas. In fact, she drank 72 of them over the course of that week. “She was in heaven,” Rue says. “And then she got home.” Poor Kat realized she’d gained 20 lbs. from all that creamy, coconutty goodness. And that led her boyfriend Daniel, who’d heretofore seemed like the dreamiest thing on Earth, to break up with her during fourth period of the first day of school. A very sad Kat turned to fictional romances for comfort, finding solace in watching Luke and Lorelai on Gilmore Girls, Bill and Sookie on True Blood and Fitz and Olivia on Scandal. “That’s real love, and those were real men,” Rue says. All of the TV-viewing led Kate to start writing fan fiction in the summer before high school, and she soon became one of the most prolific — and smuttiest — authors on Tumblr. To wit: We watch an animated recreation of her NC-17-rated story about One Direction’s Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson, and it’s hilarious. Kat had always thought that people online wouldn’t like her if they knew what she really looked like, Rue tells us… until the sex tape hit the Internet. And in the present-day, Kat dons black lingerie and a cat mask and dances for her live cam like everyone’s watching. A CLEAN START | Throughout the episode, we see Rue speaking at the Narcotics Anonymous meeting where she gets her 60-days-sober chip. But the thing is, she admits via voiceover, she’s only really been clean for two weeks, since the night of the Fentanyl disaster. We flash back to that evening, as Rue is coming down from the drug in Jules’ bed and Jules is begging her to stop using drugs, because “I’m not trying to become best friends” with someone who’s suicidal, the blonde tells her. “I don’t want to be around you if you don’t stop using drugs.” So Rue tearfully agrees, and after asking Jules to pee in a pill bottle for her, she goes home. Rue’s mom is understandably mad and worried when her daughter rolls in at 5:30 in the morning after being MIA via text and phone all night. But Rue passes her drug test, thanks to Jules’ urine, and tells us that she “decided to stay clean. And I have been, for a while.” Yay, right? Well, there’s something else that’s complicating matters. “I didn’t know it at the time,” Rue says, “but Jules was falling in love.” Yeah, about that… When a starry-eyed Jules tells Rue, she immediately dismisses him as a “f—kboi.” Jules immediately recognizes that her friend is jealous, but Rue maintains that she’s not. So they act like they’ve moved past it. There’s a funny interlude after “Tyler” sends Jules a photo of his junk (in an aside, Rue gives a tutorial on the different types of d–k pics) but then Jules asks Rue for help taking some artful semi-nude selfies, and Rue has a hard time keeping her cool. Couple that with the fact that Jules — whether or not she’s aware of the feelings Rue has caught for her — is incredibly physically affectionate, especially when she realizes that Rue has been clean for two weeks? Yeah, it’s no surprise when Rue (unbeknownst to Jules) grabs some prescription pills off Jules’ kitchen counter and then abruptly leaves. Outside she pops some of the meds in her mouth and then hops on her bike. ENTER ALI | Rue rides to a NA meeting, and that’s when we realize that the meeting where she spoke is this one: She was on drugs while talking about being off of them. Outside, a man named Ali starts asking her questions about her sister and about whether she thinks Jia’s finding her will mess the younger girl up for life. Ali also completely knows that Rue lied about being clean. “Let me know when you want to stop trying to kill yourself,” he says, giving her his number. But that moment of peace and calm is fleeting. The next day at school, Jules is excited because Tyler wants to meet her that night after the carnival. Rue doesn’t think this is a safe proposition. And the more she’s against it, the more Jules feels like her bestie is letting her down. It ends badly, so Rue goes to Jules’ after school to tearfully explain that she just doesn’t want anything bad to happen to her. Jules’ anger dissipates, and soon they’re hugging with their foreheads touching. There’s definitely a MOMENT, but when Rue seizes it and kisses Jules, the surprised blonde pulls away and Rue immediately panics, cries and leaves. She makes a beeline for Fezco’s, where she bangs on the door and begs for him to sell her some Oxycontin, but he won’t let her in. “I’m not gonna help you kill yourself, Rue,” he tells her through the door. This sparks an angry tirade in which she calls him out on his hypocrisy: He was happy to help her get hooked on the stuff, and now he’s growing a conscience about it? “You f–king ruined my life,” she sobs on his doorstep. “The least you could do is open the goddamn door and fix it.” He’s clearly torn up, but he won’t grant her wish. (Side note: Wow Zendaya is so good in this episode, no?) At the end of the episode, Rue pulls out her phone and calls Ali to see if he still wants to get “pancakes or something.” MEOW! | Back to Kat: Her new online audience isn’t growing at the rate she’d like, but checking out one of the guys who likes her vids leads her to glean that he’s into humiliation porn. It turns out the guy is willing to pay her to Skype with him, so she gets a quick lesson on bitcoin from Fezco and his hilarious little brother, and then she’s good to go. Her new benefactor refers to himself as “kind of an odd duck” who has some “extreme kinks.” Chief among them: the desire for a beautiful woman to mock him for his micropenis. Which we see, of course, because that’s how this show rolls. Kat is down for it, so he has a very good time while she’s laughing and pointing, and then he suggests that he be her “cash pig” who will pay her for lots of things, including whenever she wants to “fine” him for not doing what she says. Now it’s your turn. What did you think of the episode? Sound off in the comments! RELATED STORIES
That story earned Kat a huge online following, which bore no resemblance to her real life as a lonely high school student. She dreamed about telling her followers to storm the school; in a fantasy sequence, we watch that play out as her minions, dressed like extras from Vikings, create carnage in the cafeteria. But when one hunky follower realizes that Kat (also attired in khaleesi chic) doesn’t match up to the image he had of her online, he calls her an imposter and attacks.
RUE RELAPSES | Jules is in deep with ShyGuy118, whom we know is Nate. And I’m pretty sure HE knows who SHE really is, but she definitely has no clue that her text-boyfriend is one of her classmates. She thinks his name is Tyler, that he goes to St. Mary’s and that he lives with only his mother. In a cool split-screen bit, we watch both of them go about their days with their phones glued to their hands, their sweetly intimate conversation unfolding at home, in school, in bed.
At home, Rue finds Jia watching My So-Called Life in her room and curls up alongside her. “Please promise me you will never fall for a Jordan Catalano,” Rue deadpans. “But he’s so cute!” Jia says, giggling. Aww.
MADDY’S ON IT | Meanwhile, after Nate and Maddy have sex, she gets suspicious and decides to spy on his phone while he’s in the shower. She has no idea who he’s talking to — since he and Jules have been communicating through the dating app, it’s not super simple to see their conversations — but she knows something’s up when she opens the photo gallery and sees all the shots he’s taken of his Little Nate. She bails, giving him a made-up excuse for why she has to leave, and he’s none the wiser.
She uses the cash she makes to buy a new mini-wardrobe and arrives at school the next day sporting a much different look: fishnets, boots, corset-over-tee-shirt, dramatic makeup and a choker that reads “Kitty.” Sweet Ethan, who earlier in the episode bought her a grapefruit when she didn’t have enough money for lunch, gazes at her in wonder. “You look different,” he notes. “I changed,” she says airily.

Fear not. The night may be dark and full of terrors, but your Thrones Season 8 preparations don’t have to be — thanks to our ultraquick recap of each Season 7 episode. If you’re super busy, use it as your backgrounder for the start of Season 8, which takes place Sunday, April 14, at 9/8c. And if you watched last season but just can’t remember who Arya killed or to whom Jon pledged loyalty, for example, use this guide to jog your memory. And if you want more detail, no worries: Each entry contains links to the full episode recap, as well as any extras related to that installment.
Better get going — because while Bran [Spoiler alert!] may be able to see all time at once, you’ve got some catching up to do.
EPISODE 1, “DRAGONSTONE” | Arya poisons and kills every Frey responsible for the Red Wedding. Cersei sends a raven ordering Jon to pledge his fealty or face her wrath, then she rebuffs a marriage proposal from Euron Greyjoy, who offers use of his Iron Fleet. While with Thoros and Beric Dondarrion, The Hound stares into a fire and has a vision of The Wall, and a castle where “the dead are marching past.” At The Citadel, maester-in-training Sam learns that Dragonstone, the traditional seat of the Targaryens in Westeros, was built on top of a trove of dragonglass… aka one of the few materials that can kill white walkers. Also: Ser Jorah is at The Citadel, being treated for his advancing greyscale. And speaking of Dragonstone, Daenerys arrives there with Tyrion, her dragons and the rest of her advisors. Full recap here and John Bradley’s thoughts on Sam’s life at the Citadel here.
EPISODE 2, “STORMBORN” | Melisandre arrives at Dragonstone and recommends that Daenerys meet with Jon Snow, so khaleesi summons him to “bend the knee” to her. Dany also orders her forces to surround King’s Landing; the night before they leave, Grey Worm professes his love for Missandei, and they make love. Euron’s fleet attacks Yara’s. Yara, Ellaria and one of her daughters is taken hostage, the other two Sand Snakes are killed. Despite the objections of Sansa and others, Jon leaves to meet Daenerys. Sam tries a controversial greyscale treatment on Jorah. After Hot Pie informs Arya that Jon took Winterfell back from the Boltons, she has an encounter with her old direwolf, Nymeria. Full recap here and an examination of one of Melisandre’s intriguing — and possibly foreshadowing — lines here.
EPISODE 3, “THE QUEEN’S JUSTICE” | Jon and Davos arrive at Dragonstone, where they meet Tyrion, Missandei, Daenerys and her dragons. Snow doesn’t bend the knee but stresses that the Night King and white walkers present a significant threat. After Euron returns to King’s Landing, Cersei gets revenge by killing Ellaria’s daughter the same way Ellaria killed Myrcella. Daenerys’ forces take Casterly Rock, but the Lannisters take Highgarden. Jaime is tasked with killing Lady Olenna, and before the old woman succumbs to her poisoning, she instructs him to tell Cersei that she orchestrated Joffrey’s death. Bran and Meera arrive at Winterfell. Completely healed, Jorah plans to return to Daenerys’ side. Full recap here.
EPISODE 4, “THE SPOILS OF WAR” | Arya arrives at Winterfell, reuniting with siblings Sansa and Bran. Jon edges closer to convincing Daenerys to consider the Night King’s army her biggest threat. Theon shows up at Dragonstone on a Greyjoy ship. As the Lannister army leaves Highgarden with carriages full of Tyrell gold, Daenerys — riding a dragon — and her forces attack. The dragon lights almost everything — including Jaime, whom Bronn pushes into a lake — on fire before it is felled by a giant crossbow that Qyburn invented. Full recap here.
EPISODE 5, “EASTWATCH” | Of Daenerys’ prisoners of war, only Randall and Dickon Tarly refuse to pledge allegiance to her, so she has Drogon roast them. Back at home, Dany happily welcomes Jorah back into her service. When the Archmaester doesn’t take seriously Bran’s raven about the white walker threat, Sam leaves The Citadel with Gilly and the baby. (Before that, though, Gilly comes across evidence that Rhaegar Targaryen had his marriage annulled. This is a big deal.) Jon, Daenerys & Co. need to rally Cersei to their side to fight the Night King, so they plan to go beyond The Wall, catch a white walker, and deliver it to King’s Landing so she can see for herself. Davos finds Gendry in King’s Landing and brings him to Dragonstone. Cersei tells Jaime she’s pregnant with his baby. Jon, Davos, Gendry, Jorah, The Hound, Thoros of Myr, Beric Dondarrion and others set off for the lands beyond The Wall. Full recap here, an explainer of what Gilly unearths at The Citadel here and a reminder of who Gendry is (and why he’s important) here.
EPISODE 6, “BEYOND THE WALL” | Beyond The Wall, Jon’s group manages to catch a wight, but then they’re besieged by an army of the undead. They carve out a refuge from the fighting, but Thoros of Myr succumbs to his wounds and freezes to death. At Winterfell, Sansa discovers Arya’s bag of faces. Tyrion tells Daenerys that Jon is smitten with her, but she says he’s not her type. After Gendry sends a raven alerting Daenerys to the white walker attack, she and her dragons fly to save Jon’s group. During the rescue, though, the Night King strikes Viserion and he dies. Jon winds up wielding Longclaw against an advancing undead horde, but is saved by his Uncle Benjen, who appears out of nowhere and stands against the masses so Jon can get away. Later, Daenerys says she fully believes in the threat of the Night King, and Jon pledges his loyalty to her, calling her “my queen.” Elsewhere, the Night King’s minions pull Viserion’s corpse from the lake and we see that the beast is now a white walker-ified dragon. Full recap here and a more in-depth look at the mysterious Benjen Stark here.
EPISODE 7, “THE DRAGON AND THE WOLF” | Daenerys, Jon, Tyrion and their crew sail to King’s Landing for a summit with Cersei, Jaime and their team at a place called Dragonpit. Cersei isn’t inclined to agree to a truce, but seeing the wight (and how difficult it is to kill) definitely makes an impression: She eventually says her armies will join the fight against the Night King’s forces. Tyrion realizes his sister is pregnant. Later, Cersei tells Jaime she was lying: She’s not planning to send her men north, and Euron is going to fetch The Golden Company mercenaries from Essos in order to bolster her ranks. Disgusted, Jaime leaves to join Jon and Daenerys’ side. At Winterfell, Littlefinger tries to convince Sansa that Arya is planning to kill her in order to become Lady of Winterfell, but she realizes that he’s the one plotting for power. This, along with his many other crimes over the years, earns him a death sentence; Arya does the deed. Via Bran’s all-seeing powers (and some prompting from Sam), we learn that Jon is Rhaegar Targaryen’s legitimate son, Aegon, and he’s heir to the Iron Throne. On their boat north, Jon and Daenerys have sex. Bran has a vision of The Wall falling to the Night King’s army. Full recap here and a sincere (no, really!) appreciation of Littlefinger here.

A passenger was disgusted to find a woman putting her bare feet on a tray table during a flight, and the passenger refused to stop when asked, according to reports.
The video was taken onboard a China Southern Airlines flight which was travelling from Nanning to Harbin.
According to the person filming, the woman in question said it was because she “injured their feet during ballet practice”.
Writing on social media website Weibo, the man explained how many people around them complained.
It was only after two passengers in front of the woman spoke up that the woman then put her feet on the armrest as well.
“They even accused other passengers of lacking empathy and compassion.” he wrote
“The plane is a public place, you can’t do whatever you want and cause suffering to other people.”
Another witness explained how the women were offered other seats by cabin crew but they would not move, saying they could not move due to their injuries.
According to Beijing Youth Daily, the airline is investigating the incident.
Online users were horrified by the woman’s actions onboard the plane.
One wrote: “These two women really don’t feel embarrassed.”
Another felt the cabin crew should have done more: “This kind of behaviour should be managed by the crew, to determine who is right and who is wrong.
“Just warn them that if they don’t put their feet down, they will be contacted and handed over to the ground police for endangering public safety, and will be blacklisted later.”
China is currently working on its own credit system, where bad behaviour could see citizen’s credit score affected.
To be rolled out fully by 2020, the woman in the video could then see herself losing points thanks to the social credit system.
Many passengers have been caught resting their bare feet on someone else’s seat or walking around the cabin half dressed.
One man went one further and decided to use his electric shaver while in his seat.
The video caught him shaving his face mid-flight instead of choosing the more hygienic option of using the bathroom.
Another man was caught filing off the dead skin from his feet while in his seat.
The passenger filming was horrified to see the dead skin falling from the sole of his foot onto the floor.
Enlarge / Adding powdered silica to the electrolyte used in lithium-ion batteries keeps them from catching fire. (credit: Gabriel Veith)
Exploding lithium-ion batteries can wreak havoc on airline flights or in waste facilities after people toss their old electronics into the trash. Now, scientists at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) have come up with a new chemical recipe that could combat the problem.
A lithium battery has two electrodes, separated by a thin plastic sheet and submerged in a liquid electrolyte—that’s a chemical medium (usually a flammable lithium-ion fluid) that allows charge to flow between a lithium-ion cathode to a carbon anode. When that thin plastic sheet breaks (due to too much jostling in the cargo hold of an airplane, for instance), the electrodes can come together, shorting out the battery. This produces heat, which can ignite the liquid electrolyte, and boom! You have a small fire in the cargo hold.
That’s why the FAA prohibits anything containing lithium-ion batteries in checked baggage. In 2017 alone, the agency reported 46 incidents of exploding batteries on airplanes.

Are belief, advocacy and perseverance enough to save sport from cheaters or should Olympians be looking for alternative methods to be heard?
As athletes from around the world are set to overtake Calgary for the first-ever Global Athlete Forum beginning on Sunday, sport leaders will be unifying their voices, hoping to affect change. The forum, collectively hosted by the Canadian Olympic Committee and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), is designed for participants to have input on how to better protect Olympic sport from the black cloud that continues to overshadow it: doping.
The fight against doping, and really any fight within the barriers of the Olympic sport system, always seems to be an uphill battle. Seemingly, even when athletes are given a seat at the table, the change they lobby for is too little, too late.
At the heart of the movement is WADA athlete chair Beckie Scott. She originally earned a bronze medal at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics before being bumped up to gold two years later after two Russian athletes were disqualified for doping.
But Scott isn't the only Canadian to be robbed of an Olympic medal moment. It took shot putter Dylan Armstrong seven years to officially receive his bronze medal from the 2008 Beijing Games and Christine Girard is still patiently awaiting the arrival of her Olympic medals (a retro-active bronze from the Beijing 2008 Games and most recently, an upgrade to Olympic gold in London 2012).
"The power differences between professional sports like the NHL and MLB, and non-unionized sports like the NCAA or Olympic sport, is the amount of leverage," said Steven Fehr, who acts as special counsel to the National Hockey League Players' Association.
"A union affords athletes legal rights, it entitles them to bargain. It's far more than just a seat at the table. The difference is without it, decisions aren't made with the same representation of the athlete's best interest."
Is creating a union the leverage Olympic athletes need?
"Athletes would need to establish a clear employee-employer relationship to obtain the right to collectively bargain. I don't know if that employment relationship would be clear enough between any provincial, national or international governing body," said Bethan Dinning, a lawyer specializing in labour and employment matters with Borden Ladner Gervais LLP in Toronto.
"Not to mention, it's also uncertain which governing body, if any, would be the proper respondent to efforts at collective action by Olympic athletes. Adding to that complexity is the fact there is a great deal of diversity amongst athletes, most notably by sport, but also their bargaining interests and priorities. It begs the questions — could one bargaining agent effectively represent those interests? And would a critical number of individual athletes really agree to give up their individual bargaining power?"
Retired Olympic silver medallist and past WADA athlete commission member Andreanne Morin doesn't envision the topic will be addressed over the next few days.
"Instead of trying to force a system that doesn't fit the current governance structure of Olympic sport, we're looking at the current structure and fighting for bigger roles for each respective athlete commission within it."
But as evidenced by the long standing Russian doping scandal, change seems to be more of a marathon, not a sprint.
Morin hopes the forum will further unify the athlete voice and advance the momentum on finalizing a WADA Athlete Charter of Rights. The goal is to have the Athlete Charter ratified into the WADA Code (the Code essentially being the broad rules athletes, nations and sport bodies must adhere to) by 2021. It will then serve as a formal document within the code and most importantly, it will be enforceable.
"As a former athlete, I can sympathize with athletes that deal with cheating in their sport," said Morin. "But we can't just lose faith and just give up. We need to keep fighting. We need to continue unifying the athlete voice and mobilizing for change. Progress is being made, even if it's never fast enough."
Even if a legal right to bargain is likely to remain elusive for Olympians, cleaning up doping in sport remains a priority for athletes like Morin. And like so many other Olympians, adversity and disbelief are just common obstacles she's willing to overcome.
Olympic sport needs this forum to be successful. It needs athletes working together against those cheating the system, with as much perseverance and dedication as they did in pursuit of an Olympic medal.
They won't have a legal right to bargain and they still lack leverage, but when the voice for change becomes collectively unified and louder, it can be a powerful tool.

An Archie Comics adaptation was always going to be a tough sell for TV viewers, but somehow The CW managed to pull it off.
By maintaining an emphasis on character progression and a cinematic style, the show set itself apart from others – and with the teen drama finishing its second season this month fans must be enjoying it.
It has even received its own comic book spin-off titled “Riverdale” which fills in the gaps missed by the TV show.
One of these comics is available for free this Saturday May 5 to mark the annual Free Comic Book Day.
And Riverdale is bringing some much needed diversity to screens, says Dark Side Comics owner Holly Ringsell.
While Archie Comics began building its iconic characters in 1939 they have been modernised in The CW’s TV show.
And Holly says it couldn’t have come any sooner.
“Out of the comic-based shows that I watch,” she says. “That I know of, Riverdale is probably the best for queer representation.”
Holly started Dark Side Comics five years ago and has endeavoured to set a good example for the next generation of comic fans.
In addition, Diamond Distributors’ global Free Comic Book Day gives comic publishers a platform to show off new diverse and inclusive stories.
“It’s a celebration,” Holly continued. “It is inclusive of everyone – it should be about introducing new people [to the culture] and celebrating with old readers.”
Holly proposes shows such as Riverdale would struggle to find a home anywhere other than streaming services such as The CW and Netflix.
She explained: “They take a step in the right direction. Streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime are probably going to be where the diversity is.
“They’re going to have a bigger range of directors and creators working for them who will bring a different range of materials to the table.
“Amazon have Preacher as well – and stuff like Preacher is aired in the US on AMC.
“But [in England] I can’t imagine something like Preacher or even Riverdale landing on any of our traditional TV channels.
“And I think you can see that traditional TV is trying to play catch up.”
But with female-led dramas such as The Split finding their spot in the BBC, could things be beginning to change?
Riverdale continues Thursday on Netflix
Dark Side Comics is a family-friendly, all-inclusive comic shop in Chelmsford, Essex. Holly is the brightly-coloured, Riverdale and diversity enthusiast at its core.
SINCE the heady days of late 2017 and January of this year, crypto-currencies have gone into retreat. Bitcoin, the best-known example, is now worth just a third of its value at its peak (see chart).
But there remain plenty of true believers in digital currencies. They point out that prices are still well above where they were in 2016. And interest from institutional investors is still strong enough for analysts to want to make sense of the crypto-phenomenon.
The latest bank to take a shot is Barclays, which devotes a lot more of its “Equity Gilt Study 2018” to the impact of technological change on finance and the economy than it does to either equities or gilts. Its report describes crypto-technology as “a solution still seeking a problem”.
It identifies four challenges in particular. The first is trust. In most countries, consumers and businesses have faith in the currencies issued by the government. The second is sovereignty: the potential for tax avoidance and loss of…

Where you sit on a plane can impact how likely you are to get ill, according to new research.
Scientists modelled the way bugs are spread on flights in the study, and they also found that cabin crew, not just fellow passengers that could be making you ill.
The study shows that an infected air steward presents a greater risk to anyone sitting in an aisle or missile seat, compared to someone sat by the window.
But, if you are sat within a row or even two seats away from an infected passenger, you have an 80 per cent chance of catching a bug, no matter what seat you’re sat in.
Dr Chris Steele, discussed the findings by Emory University in the Unites States on This Morning.
Presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield asked Dr Chris what he would do to avoid getting ill on a plane. His answer, may come as a surprise to some.
He said: “Personally I wouldn’t do anything.
“We’re all a bit too clean.”
He said: “Social distancing – keep away from people. About five foot minimum,” he said.
“The other thing you can do is, cough into your elbow, as no-one ever grasps your elbow, so you can’t pass it on.”
Dry, tickly and mucus are just a few of the types of cough which circulate round this time of year.
BLACK mould and damp is a common problem during this time of year and respiratory problems, allergies, and asthma can be a result of infestations. Inhaling tiny bits of mould can also cause a condition called aspergillosis. The NHS explains how best to get rid of mould and damp problems.![]()
