Fast-fashion brands are attempting to appeal to an increasingly eco-friendly audience, but critics aren't so sure their methods have the purest intentions.
UK-based fashion brand Pretty Little Thing and its parent company Boohoo are among the latest retailers facing scrutiny on claims they are misleading consumers that they are environmentally friendly, despite their reputations and investigations that say otherwise.
Boohoo was the latest to draw ire, after the fast-fashion giant announced a "sustainability and style" collaboration with Kourtney Kardashian Barker earlier this month. The 46-piece collection of garments is made from "recycled fibers," according to a release from Boohoo.
The partnership was met with heavy criticism on social media, Insider's Maria Noyen reported, as users slammed both Kardashian Barker and Boohoo for greenwashing — or "the act or practice of making (something) appear to be more environmentally friendly or less environmentally damaging than it really is," as defined by Merriam-Webster.
Several users pointed out that the company had previously been the subject of a 2019 investigation by the Sunday Times, which found Boohoo's UK factory workers were paid only £3.50, or $ 4.37, an hour.
—Zita (@zitacollier_) September 14, 2022
The controversy comes on the heels of a separate investigation into potential greenwashing at Boohoo, among other fast-fashion retailers, conducted by the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in July, The Guardian reported.
"People who want to 'buy green' should be able to do so confident that they aren't being misled," Sarah Cardell, the interim CMA chief executive, told The Guardian. "Eco-friendly and sustainable products can play a role in tackling climate change, but only if they are genuine."
Pretty Little Thing also faced greenwashing accusations of its own after announcing its "Pretty Little Thing Marketplace" feature in August. The new app allows users to buy and sell pre-owned garments from PLT and other fashion brands, according to the official website.
Much like the reaction to PLT's parent company over the Kardashian Barker collection, social media and critics users were similarly not happy with the brand's efforts to appear more sustainable, HuffPost reported.
"Their products are trend-led and ultra-fast, meaning they're specifically not designed to be resold or have any longevity whatsoever, so resale is never on the cards for those items," Sustainable fashion editor Brett Staniland told HuffPost.
He continued: "The most sustainable thing they can do is just cease operations altogether."
Boohoo and PLT aren't the only fast fashion brands getting called out for their attempts to go green. Swedish brand H&M is being sued by a New York student who alleged she overpaid for clothes from the brand's "Conscious Collection" under the guise the products were more eco-friendly than they actually were.

]]>Veteran actor Donald Sutherland is starring in the film as Mr. Harrigan, but the bulk of the movie appears to take place from the point of view of Craig (Jaeden Martell). By all outward appearances, Craig is a normal boy who endures horrific torment and bullying at school. That’s one of the reasons why Craig turned to Harrigan for advice. And when Harrigan dies suddenly, Craig finds himself emotionally bereft without his guidance. That leads to some questionable choices.

If Mr. Harrigan really is rising from his grave to murder Craig’s tormentors, then it’s likely the kid’s fault. Who leaves a working phone with the body of a dead man? And it’s always a bad idea to pay for cell service in Hell. If the damned want to phone the living, then they should call collect!
Of course, there is also the possibility that Craig is simply losing his mind. But in King’s stories, it’s almost always supernatural in the end.
John Lee Hancock wrote and directed Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, which will premiere on Netflix on October 5.

From the very first episode of “Better Call Saul,” viewers were primed to notice points of connection between the prequel and its parent series. If Bob Odenkirk’s Jimmy McGill so much as winked a certain way, “Breaking Bad” fans were eager to analyze it. Is this the moment? Is he becoming Saul Goodman in front of our eyes? When a scene of transformation finally did come, it was much later than anyone expected, but series creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould made sure to sprinkle in plenty of “Breaking Bad” connections in the meantime.
The series also doled out its cameos slowly and surely, including crossover characters only when it made sense for Jimmy’s story and the parallel origin stories of Gus (Giancarlo Esposito) and Mike (Jonathan Banks). So when Walter White’s brother-in-law Hank Schrader (Dean Norris) and his partner Steven Gomez (Steven Michael Quezada) appeared in the third and fourth episodes of the show’s penultimate season, the context for their scenes was a little bit disorienting. The pair of DEA agents come into play when Jimmy sets Krazy-8 (Max Arciniega) up as their confidential informant, leading them to stakeout that results in a massive bust.

Hank and Gomez’s appearance does move along the “Better Call Saul” plot, as it heats up the tension between Nacho, Gus, and Lalo. But it also includes one of the show’s more confusing Easter eggs, when Hank and Gomez land the drug bust. After hilariously bickering about the etymology of the word “culverts,” the pair ends up successfully arresting three people involved in Gus’ operation, seizing cash that amounts to “$ 700,000 and some change.” “We sure took a bite outta crime tonight, Macgruff!” Gomie says to Hank, before the whole team heads to a bar to celebrate.
This episode marks the end of their short time on “Better Call Saul,” and weirdly, it also aligns perfectly with the pilot episode of “Breaking Bad.” In one of the show’s first scenes, Walt (Bryan Cranston) gets the idea to cook meth after Hank makes everyone at his birthday party watch a local news interview about his latest drug bust. On TV, we see Hank describe three arrests, and when Walt asks his brother-in-law how much money was seized, he says about $ 700,000. It seems to be the same exact bust, only there’s no way it could be, as “Better Call Saul” season five is still set a few years before the events of “Breaking Bad.”

The familiarities between the two scenes are ample enough that when it aired, some fans suddenly began to question their own mental timeline for the series. But on closer inspection, these are clearly two different events that are likely meant to echo one another. The most noticeable proof comes from an intentional character change: Gomez of the pre-“Breaking Bad” past has facial hair, while he doesn’t at Walt’s birthday party. There’s also the fact that Hank’s being interviewed on the news at what appears to be dawn or dusk, whereas he and his team leave the “Better Call Saul” bust in the dead of night to celebrate. This isn’t the same crime scene, then, but it is a strangely similar one.
Gould and Gilligan are consistently thoughtful about their filmmaking choices, so it’s likely the sense of deja vu this scene gives viewers is intentional. Perhaps the pair of DEA agents, who both die in “Breaking Bad,” return partly as ghostly warning signs. Their timing makes them perfect harbingers of the fatal turn the spin-off series will take once Lalo, Nacho, and Gus begin to escalate their conflict. The DEA agents win a battle that night, but the Albequerque drug lords ultimately win the war. An identical bust years later is proof to this point, as it shows just how much money and power is at stake in the business Jimmy finds himself wrapped up in.
Or maybe, just maybe, Gilligan and Gould wanted to give ASAC Schrader himself one last moment of victory on screen, a big bust worth bragging rights. If so, we can’t fault them for that: it was great to see Hank and Gomie back together again, and we could’ve watched them argue about culverts for several more episodes.

]]>‘HELL OF A HONEYMOON’ | As we began the hour, in part a continuation of action that kicked off on Station 19, Owen hollered at Jackson for pulling his residents from the ER to help with COVID testing, Teddy backseat-drove Mer’s treatment via Zoom on one of her last days off, Jo continued to bond with Luna, and Amelia marveled at the kids’ ability to create more laundry than existed… just as Link’s parents showed up in the driveway in their RV. They had a bright idea, too: taking the youngsters on a COVID-safe road trip, thereby giving Link and Amelia a break. At Grey Sloan’s testing site, Jackson shared with Levi that he’d sat through endless Catherine Fox Foundation meetings to get the hospital extra tests. In peds, Cormac and Reza treated a baby named Arthur who was waiting with anxious dad Chris for a heart transplant. Finally, Station 19 newlyweds Shane and Carissa were brought to the ambulance bay by our firefighters. He was still pissed that she’d begged the first responders to save her first, and to hell with the guy she’d married only earlier that day.
‘DON’T TELL HER HOW I AM, SHE DOESN’T GET TO KNOW ANYTHING’ | While treating Carissa, the bride beseeched Jo to put her in the same room as Shane. When she admitted to Tom what she’d said to Shane in a moment of panic, Koracick cracked that maybe she could blame it on brain bleed. When Jo filled in Shane on Carissa’s condition, he instructed her not to tell his wife that he was being wheeled into surgery — or anything. Natch, Carissa realized at once that Shane was still mad. “I was wrong that no one would miss him,” she cried. “It’s only been a few hours, and I already miss him so much, I could burst.” Shortly, Jo filled in a still-unconscious Mer as a way of backing into admitting that she wanted to change specialties. “Since Alex left, my house hasn’t been my happiest place,” Jo said, “so I want work to be.” Oh, and she’d repeat it all when Grey woke up. “I can’t take any more worst days here.” Following Shane’s surgery, he seemed ready to stick a fork in his brand-new marriage — until Bailey gave him what-for. At last, he asked to see his bride, at least via tablet. Only when they were face to face, he told Carissa that he wanted an annulment. She’d been selfish when he met her and was selfish now, he just no longer found it charming.
‘LET’S HAVE SEX IN THE KITCHEN!’ | Left alone at home without the kids, Link and Amelia started down the path to sexytime when she broke down crying. In response, off a remark from his mom about Amelia being his wife, Link got down on bended knee. But that wasn’t what she wanted at all, she just needed a good cry. “It just hit me,” she later said, “that it’s been months since I was able to feel whatever I want without worrying that I’m going to scar a child.” But, um, did she want to marry him? Did he want to marry her? He’d sworn he’d never put a kid through what he went through with his folks’ divorce. And she feared that she was wired for self-destruction; lately, she’d gone to sleep dreaming of getting high. She even thought about it when she was feeding Scout. Later, she shared that she couldn’t so much as smoke weed because if she did, she might forget that she couldn’t do heroin. So “for the record, I would marry you in a hot minute,” Link said. She was stronger than most addicts. With that, he got down on one knee again, and she hollered, “No!” again. Later still, Amelia admitted that she loved Link so much, it was all she could do not to have a panic attack. In exchange for her not getting high, he promised to no longer propose to her in a remotely compulsory manner. With that, they took advantage of the empty house and the roaring fire… just as his parents returned with the kids.

‘YOU WANT TO CUT OUT A PART OF HIS HEART?!?’ | When Cormac found Chris in a state, the doc invited him to go outside or to the chapel… “So I can pray for someone else’s kid to die?” Chris asked. He then admitted that Arthur’s mom Holly had been struggling desperately since the pandemic hit. Maybe it was postpartum or the state of the world… but it was bad. “We can’t lose” the baby, Chris sobbed to Hayes. Hoping to save the tot, Cormac attempted to recruit Maggie. “Aren’t you supposed to be a genius or something?” he asked when she suggested throwing in the towel. “It’s not giving up,” she replied, “it’s letting [the parents] go on.” Luckily, a conversation with Jo about forgiving her mother gave Cormac an idea about how to treat Arthur. Chris was skeptical: cut out a part of Arthur’s heart to put in a pump? He had to call Holly. Before the procedure, the new dad tearfully told his baby that he’d already given his parents a lifetime of joy. Miraculously, Maggie and Cormac pulled it off! “He’s OK,” Chris told Holly. “And bionic!”
‘HOTELS ARE KICKING PEOPLE OUT TO MAKE ROOM FOR YOUR NEW ARRIVALS’ | Trying to do some good, Jackson began letting Levi book hotel rooms for patients who tested positive for COVID and had nowhere to safely quarantine. But his good deed backfired, it seemed. A community-outreach program was being stymied by his efforts — their homeless beneficiaries were being thrown out to make room for Richie Rich’s. Ah, he hadn’t realized that that would happen, he told Mama Ortiz when she called him out. Great, she fired back. “We’ll just tell everyone it wasn’t on purpose. That should keep ’em real warm tonight.” Though he remedied the situation, Alma would cut him no slack. Temporary fixes weren’t real fixes. What’s more, “all of this is too much,” she cried. Later, Jackson paged Alma, who quickly apologized for speaking up for underserved communities. But he felt the same way — and wanted to hear her ideas, based on her past stint as a social worker. She had good ideas, he had deep pockets — they could make a hell of a team.
‘HELLO, SLEEPYHEAD’ | As the episode neared its conclusion, Mer woke up and immediately apologized to Richard for having had to put her on a vent. However, “I’m glad I chose you,” she added. Oh, and “we need to talk about Wilson.” Guess Mer heard what Jo’d said earlier about changing specialties! As Jo was leaving the hospital at the end of the day, Richard approached her offering his support. But he had to know what was going on. Back at Mer’s, Link suggested that he and Amelia check in every few weeks to make sure that they were comfortable with their decision not to tie the knot. “Are we super broken or super evolved?” she asked. Definitely the latter, he said. At Owen’s, he apologized to Teddy for his reaction to her confession about Allison. He also admitted that he should’ve known she was going through something to do what she had to him with Tom. He wasn’t sure if he could be more to her now than a friend, but at very least, he wanted to be that. Credit where it’s due: That’s progress, Owen. In our last shot, Bailey, Richard and Maggie marveled at how amazing Mer was. Even when she was sleeping, she was apparently listening.

Unless, of course, he took Garrett’s advice to ‘kill the king’ and take out John Dutton in the season finale, giving him the power to do with the vast Yellowstone ranch whatever he pleases.
The same viewer also pointed out Will Patton’s appearance continues his trend of appearing as a rival for fellow Hollywood legend, Kevin Costner.
They wrapped up their theory and said: “Will Patton rules, and it’s nice to see him complete the ‘I Hate Kevin Costner’ Trinity, after No Way Out and the not-nearly-as-bad-as-everyone-says The Postman. He better be a series regular.”
Viewers can now only hope Taylor Sheridan embraces Will Patton’s potential and fully utilises the actor’s strengths in Yellowstone’s upcoming fourth season.
Yellowstone will return with season 4 in 2021 on Paramount.

He continued: “We dress up, we’ve got all these frocks on and it’s glamorous and there’s the music playing,
“But, at the end of the day, it’s also dangerous,” Christopher pointed out.
The Dancing On Ice favourite then explained exactly what happened between Rebekah and her partner Andy which led to him needing medical attention.
Christopher clarified: “One of the lifts that she was doing, she was coming out of a somersault and the heel of her blade went into Andy, her partner’s, cheek.”

As per usual on This Morning, Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby gave one lucky viewer the chance to pocket some cash on Spin to Win. Raj was today’s fortunate ITV viewer and bagged himself a cool £750 but was also given the opportunity by Phillip the land himself a bag of goodies, known as the “bag of shizzle”. In order to do so, however, he had to rightly identify James Martin as the chef cooking up a treat in the This Morning kitchen – a task that proved rather difficult.
After winning £750, the bag of treats was dropped from the ceiling for Phillip and Holly to offer up to Raj.
Filled with unique This Morning goodies such as giant baubles and a jigsaw puzzle, all Raj had to do was answer a simple question to secure it.
Phillip and Holly asked him who the celebrity chef was cooking in the studio today as the camera panned to James’ face.
However, Raj responded with silence as he failed to remember James’ name – prompting the celebrity chef to walk off set as Holly and Phillip tried to give the caller some clues.

By this point, James had returned to the studio but Holly wasn’t going to let Raj get away with not answering correctly.
“You wear them on your feet! Doctor…Big stompy, clompy things,” she added but Phillip had had enough.
Eventually, Phillip ended up screaming down the camera: “Martin! Say Martin!”
The trio saw the funny side of Raj’s mishap as they all shared a laugh at the TV chef’s expense.
And the Fear the Walking Dead fan wasn’t alone, as a second weighed in: “No way, this show has gone downhill since S3, unless you bring new showrunners I don’t think the OGs will get any screentime at all tbh, this is just TWD Jr.
“And it will be about the noobs instead of focusing on Alicia, Victor and Luciana. Daniel? I don’t recognise him anymore.”
A third had similar complaints: “No surprise about the renewal. Fear is awful but looks like Shakespeare compared to World Beyond.
“AMC has set the bar so incredibly low with the WD franchise that it doesn’t take much to be considered ‘good’ nowadays.”
