 fans don’t have long left to complete the Birthday Challenges.

The latest selection of Fortnite challenges launched to celebrate the game’s birthday on July 24.

However, these tasks won’t be around much longer, and are scheduled to be taken offline on Tuesday, July 6.

Based on the in-game timer, the Birthday Challenges will be removed at 7am UK time.

That means this is the final weekend to complete the Birthday challenges and unlock those rewards.

The Fortnite Birthday Challenges can be accessed from the same menu as the weekly, Road Trip and Drift challenges.

Challenges include playing a certain number of games, dealing damage to opponents and dancing at different birthday cakes.

Fans will be gifted with 5,000 XP for playing 14 matches, a Happy Birthday spray by dancing at ten different cakes, and a birthday emoticon for dealing 1,000 damage to opponents.

Completing all three challenges unlocks the commemorative Birthday Cake Back Bling gift.

Save the World players can also unlock birthday surprises by completing special quests.

The rush on Birthday challenges should make up for the fact that Epic has removed the Flaming Hoops challenge from the game.

Epic Games were forced to disable Shopping Carts and ATKSs after finding a bug in the game.

“Due to a bug with the Shopping Cart and ATK, we’re temporarily disabling them in all game modes until we have a fix,” reads an Epic post. “We’ll update you once this is resolved.”

One of this week’s free challenges tasks players with jumping through flaming hoops in a shopping cart or ATK, which is currently unavailable.

A Maryland bakery was temporarily shut down by health officials after a customer filmed a rat crawling across cakes, cookies, and pies in the city’s historic Lexington Market.

The stomach-turning footage was filmed at Buttercup Bakery at Lexington Market in Baltimore and has since been viewed over 800,000 times on Facebook.

The video shows the large rat crawling around in a glass container holding an array of desserts and pastries while customers look on in shock. At one point someone can be heard shouting, “Just grab him by the neck!” at staff trying to lure the rat from the baked goods.

Buttercup Bakery and another establishment in the indoor market owned by the same person, Berger’s Bakery, were closed down for a 24-hour period after a visit from health officials. Berger’s Bakery was closed for a fly infestation. Both bakeries were previously closed down by the Baltimore City Health Department due to a roach infestation in October 2016.

Lexington Market said they decided to voluntarily close down the entire market for 24 hours following the viral revelation to allow merchants, staff, the health department, and pest-control to conduct an investigation.

The general manager of Lexington Market told WBAL this is their first closure in 45 years of business and said the rat may have scurried inside the cabinet after an employee left a door open. However some patrons told the Baltimore Sun the market is known for having a rodent issue.

The person who filmed the damning footage, Milton Mitchell, told The Baltimore Sun he went to the bakery to buy cookie for his wife. “I never thought [the video] would get this big, but I’m glad it did,” said Mitchell, adding that he wanted to “let the public know what kind of situation Lexington Market is in.”

    Scientists have sent a Tunnocks Tea Cake where no confectionary has ever gone before after launching the beloved Scottish snack into space.

    The pioneering teacake, named Terry, was launched from Renfrewshire, west of Glasgow, on Friday.

    It took around 90 minutes to reach a peak altitude of 37,007 meters (121,414 feet). It then took approximately 40 minutes to descend back to Earth where it landed in Galloway Forest Park.

    The chocolate treat was sent into orbit on a hydrogen weather balloon by researchers from The Glasgow Science Centre. The experiment was streamed live on Facebook with more than 33,000 people following the biscuit’s adventure.

    According to the researchers, “Terry was pretty intact when he landed in a tree” in the park.

    “We engage people with space science every day, and we thought ‘what better way to spark people’s imaginations and interest in STEM than for us to launch something into space ourselves,’” Dr Stephen Breslin of Glasgow Science Centre told BBC Scotland.

    “We are delighted by how many people joined us at GSC, and online, to watch Terry’s space adventures.”

    Terry the teacake isn’t the first famous British food to be launched into space. In December last year, a meat pie was launched into orbit from outside a pub in Wigan to celebrate the upcoming World Pie Eating Championships.

    The new smaller packs weigh 122 grams rather than 150 grams as before.

    McVities, the makers of the snacks, have cut the recommended retail price from £1.15 to 99p to reflect the changed size.

    Twin packs, which now have 20 cakes rather than 24, are now £1.89 rather than £2.19.

    This is unlike other companies who have also slashed the size of their food but declined to change the price.

    McVities, which is owned by Turkish group Pladis, said in a statement: “These changes represent the same price per cake, however, pricing ultimately remains at the sole discretion of retailers.

    “There is no change in the size, shape or weight of individual cakes in the McVitie’s Jaffa Cake range.”

    It is not clear why, if price is not the driver of this decision, McVitie’s have reduced the size of Jaffa Cakes.

    But for whatever reason, they are just the latest in a long line of producers to slash sizes.

    The Office for National Statistics revealed in July as many as 2,529 products had shrunk in size over the past five years, but were being sold for the same price.

    Everything from confectionary to orange juice and even toilet roll had shrunk.

    Consumers reacted angrily to the Jaffa Cakes news this morning, sharing their feelings on Twitter.

    One wrote: “The news of @McVities making the packs of Jaffa cakes smaller has ruined my day; whoever made this decision should be ashamed #jaffascam”.

    Another fumed: “It takes a lot to outrage me, but just read that @McVities have skunk a packet of Jaffa Cakes from 12 to 10 for same price!#jaffacakegate”.

    Many compared the reduction in size to the shrinking of Toblerone late last year.

    The iconic chocolate bar is distinctive in its peaking pyramid-like shapes filled with chunks of nougat.  

    But makers Mondelez International decided in November 2016 to widen the gap between the triangular pieces, thereby narrowing the amount of chocolate.

    The Mighty Boosh star revealed that he has tried his best to avoid sugar to help his acting career. 

    Noel, 44, kept a zero-sugar diet for his role as Alice Cooper in an upcoming Sky Arts biography series, Urban Myths. 

    He admitted: “I get more work when I’m thinner, so I can’t put on weight. 

    “No one likes a tubby gut is what I’m saying. I don’t eat anything, I’m like a plant.

    “It’s not that I don’t like cake – I have a very sweet tooth. But I was playing Alice Cooper and I had to lose a stone, so I wasn’t eating sugar.

    “You can’t just get straight back onto sugar, as it’s quite a powerful thing,” the presenter told The Sunday Times. 

    This follows the first look trailer for Great British Bake Off which was released earlier this week. 

    Fans of the baking show, which has just moved over to Channel 4 from the BBC, were left “disturbed” by the footage which sees animated cakes dancing singing along to Paul McCartney and the Frog Chorus’s We All Stand Together. 

    None of the judges nor hosts, new or old, can be seen in the trailer, which has been slammed for its “creepy” aesthetic. 

    Great British Bake Off will debut on Channel 4 later this year.

    Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds is one of the hottest games around, so maybe we shouldn’t be too surprised that its in-game items are becoming a big commodity the day that loot crates become buy-able. But it’s still shocking to see a digital trench coat up for sale in Steam’s marketplace for hundreds of dollars.

    Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds users can now spend real money on loot crates that contain random cosmetics. Other games, like Overwatch, use a similar system. But Blizzard doesn’t allow its players to sell those virtual goods to others. Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, however, uses the Steam Marketplace.

    And some items are available at insane prices. A purple miniskirt is selling for $ 590. A bandanna is going for $ 350.

    The loot crates were a controversial idea themselves. Players argued that it wasn’t fair for the game to introduce microtransactions while it was still in Early Access. But we are living in new times, where an Early Access game can already make over $ 100 million in revenue. The battle royale shooter has a ton of players, and the loot crates give the developer a way to make money off of them after their initial purchase.

    But, and call me crazy, I feel like there must be a better use of $ 222 than a pair of in-game hotpants.
