Google is developing a new cache for Chrome (via CNET)that should make some page loads extremely fast. The only catch? They’ll have to be pages you’ve already seen and are revisiting after hitting the browser’s back button.

Chrome already caches the files that make up a page, so revisiting a page in most circumstances shouldn’t force the browser to retrieve the images, JavaScripts, and CSS that are used to build the page. But currently, the browser has to re-parse the HTML and re-build the page’s programmatic representation, uncompress the images, re-execute all the JavaScript, reapply all the stylesheets, and so on. It’s just the networking step that gets skipped.

The new bfcache (for “back/forward cache”) changes that: it lets the browser capture the entire state of a running page—including scripts that are in the middle of execution, the rendered images, and even the scroll position—and reload that state later. With bfcache, rather than having to reload the page from scratch, the page will look as if it was paused when you click a link to a new page and subsequently resumed when you hit back.

A federal grand jury has formally indicted Joshua Adam Schulte, a former CIA employee, who prosecutors say was behind the Vault 7 trove of the agency’s hacking tools, which were sent to WikiLeaks.

Schulte, who had previously been prosecuted for possession of child pornography, has been expected to be indicted on the leaking charges for some time now. The New York-based engineer was arrested in August 2017.

According to the new superseding indictment, which was made public on Monday, Schulte faces numerous charges, including illegal gathering of national defense information, transmission of this information, obstruction of justice, among others.

The Ukrainian police force has reported finding a cache of assault rifles, ammo and explosives in the capital Kiev. Security officials say the weapons could have been used during Tuesday’s mass protest in the city center.

The weapons were discovered during an ongoing investigation, according to a statement from the deputy head of Ukraine’s national police, Vyacheslav Abroskin.

Footage of the bust, uploaded to the police’s YouTube channel, shows an AK-47 assault rifle, several bags of ammunition and disassembled hand grenades stashed away in a garage.

“The searches continue,” Abroskin said, touting efforts by the Ukrainian police and national security service (SBU) to prevent “actions aimed at destabilizing the situation in the country.”

The weapons could be intended for use during Tuesday’s protests in central Kiev, according to SBU deputy head Viktor Kononenko.

During the original Maidan protests in 2014, numerous firearms found their way to the hands of militant rioters, many of them members of far-right groups such as the Svoboda (Freedom) party. Some of the same political forces were seen in central Kiev on Tuesday, again protesting the policies of the current Ukrainian authorities, which the 2014 coup brought to power.

Tuesday’s protest was called by Mikhail Saakashvili, the former president of Georgia and ex-governor of Ukraine’s Odessa region and also former friend of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko – until Saakashvili started calling him out on corruption and demanding that his “gang” be ousted from power. Poroshenko stripped Saakashvili of his Ukrainian citizenship in July.

The rally, attended by some 6,000 people, called for parliamentary immunity to be revoked and for reforms to the electoral system. Protesters put up tents, set up cordons and faced off with riot police.

After searching areas recently liberated from ISIS along the Syria-Lebanon border, the Lebanese army has uncovered a large amount of weapons, ranging from factory-made missiles to crude homemade devices, the army said, releasing photos of the spoils.

The army has seized a large amount of weapons and munitions left behind by the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) in the recently liberated areas. The stashes were found in command centers, entrenchments and underground tunnels, according to the army’s statement issued Monday.

The weapons have been uncovered as several territories occupied by IS have been liberated in a simultaneous offensive launched by Lebanese and Syrian armies alongside with Hezbollah. The main goal of the operation is eradication of IS-held pocket on the border of the two countries. 

According to the army statement, the stash contained a large amount of small and large caliber munitions, anti-tank and anti-air missiles, a large number of anti-tank grenades as well as munitions for recoilless guns, mortars and all sorts of mines and improvised explosive devices.

The seized military equipment included mortars, medium and heavy machine guns, assault rifles, recoilless rifles, grenade launchers and other arms.

While the majority of the uncovered weapons look factory-made, some munitions appear to be less fancy crude, homemade devices.

PARIS (Reuters) – Investigators found a cache of weapons at the home of the 31-year-old man who rammed his car into a police van on the Champs Elysees avenue on Monday, a judicial source close to the investigation said.

The source said on Tuesday investigators were compiling an inventory of the weapons and other equipment.

The man, who died in the attack, was carrying in his car an assault rifle, two pistols, ammunition and two large gas canisters, two police sources and the judicial official said.
