When M. Night Shyamalan’s third feature “The Sixth Sense” arrived on the scene, the gripping story, horrific visuals, and shocking twist earned the film six Academy Award nominations, and a Newsweek soon had a cover story declaring him “The Next Spielberg.” This unfortunately put Shyamalan on a ridiculous pedestal, which has turned him into one of the most hotly debated filmmakers currently working today. For the last few years, Shyamalan has been independently funding his own projects, a way to maintain the creative control of his vision.
Shyamalan avoided surprise endings for years after it became synonymous with his name, but since 2015 with “The Visit,” he’s been back to incorporating his signature twists, and making movies exactly the way he wants. It was announced about a year ago that Shyamalan was making yet another horror movie, the secretive and highly-anticipated “Knock at the Cabin.” Fans have been speculating for months about what the film could possibly be about, but as is the case with most of Shyamalan’s filmography, trying to predict the truth of the story is a fool’s errand. We can sit here and pretend we know what the film is about until we’re blue in the face, but no one will ever truly know what’s what until the final credits roll.
Fortunately, a new trailer for the film has finally been made available, so at least now our guesses can be somewhat educated. Let the predictions begin.
Loosely based on Paul Tremblay’s 2018 novel “The Cabin at the End of the World,” this home invasion horror film of the apocalypse has an absolutely killer cast. Excitement first sparked when “Guardians of the Galaxy” star and pro-wrestler Dave Bautista joined the film, with Shyamalan citing his turn in “Blade Runner 2049” as his reasoning for casting him. Shortly after, “Harry Potter” mainstay Rupert Grint was cast, who recently had a phenomenal run in Shyamalan’s Apple TV+ series “Servant.” The two are joined by Nikki Amuka-Bird who was seen in Shyamalan’s “Old,” with “Mindhunter,” “Hamilton,” and “The Matrix Resurrections” star Jonathan Groff and Ben Aldridge (“Pennyworth,” Fleabag”) rounding out the cast.
As is customary, Shyamalan is writing, directing, producing, and funding the film, with Jarin Blaschke (“The Lighthouse,” “Servant,” “The Northman”) bringing his vision to life as director of photography. “This one really changed me as a person and an artist,” the director said in a Tweet announcing the film’s wrap. Whether you love him or hate him, a new Shyamalan movie is always going to be worth talking about.
“Knock at the Cabin” arrives in theaters on February 3, 2023.

Holidaymakers who favour air travel are all too familiar with the presence of cabin crew on every flight. They serve to cater to a variety of demands, from the moment they check a passenger’s ticket and seat number when they arrive on board. The team also offer safety demonstrations before the aircraft takes to the skies for the journey. They then fulfil passenger demands after the food service on long and short haul destinations.
While their regular, routine duties are well-known to passengers, others are not.
These include a variety of secret training procedures flight staff have to undertake before they are qualified.
They mean employees are fully in-the-know about a variety of techniques to help passengers survive should the aircraft encounter trouble.
Beth Windsor, a former air hostess at firms including British Airways, has let slip the behind the scenes details of her role.
She said survival training was key, and added: “Survival training is one of the many skills in a cabin crew’s toolkit.
“We know how to create shelter, gather food, find safe drinking water, and attract help in the Artic, jungle, rainforests and deserts, which means you really are safe in our hands.”
The revelation may come as somewhat of a shock for some passengers, while others will no doubt take heart from the extra hidden safety buffer.
Meanwhile, as well as quirky skills, flight attendants have revealed they have their own particular language too.
When you board the plane, the cabin crew are on the lookout for something aside from your tickets.
The flight attendants are in fact looking at your physical build – and the reason why is alarming.
A former crew remember revealed there’s one code word, in particular, they’ll use when assessing passengers.
Carrie Bradley, who worked as a flight attendant on an international airline for 12 years, told The Sun they keep an eye out for someone who is an “ABP”.
She said: “When passengers are boarding, you’re assessing them and seeing if they are an ABP.”
The acronym stands for “Able-Bodied Passenger.” In short, well-built passengers could be very useful in an emergency.
Crew will identify these fit and healthy people as they walk in the door and then note where they are sitting in the aircraft.
Flights always start with passengers being welcomed on board the plane by at least one member of the cabin crew. As any flier knows, these flight attendants greet the traveller, check their boarding pass and possibly indicate where they’ll find their seat. However, when you board the plane, the cabin crew are also on the lookout for something else. The flight attendants are in fact looking at your physical build – and the reason why is alarming.
A former crew remember revealed there’s one code word, in particular, they’ll use when assessing passengers.

The acronym stands for “Able-Bodied Passenger.” In short, well-built passengers could be very useful in an emergency.
Crew will identify these fit and healthy people as they walk in the door and then note where they are sitting in the aircraft.
Janice Bridger, who claimed to have been a flight attendant for 27 years, explained the importance of a powerfully-built person boarding the aircraft.
“If I see someone who is muscular, powerful, strong, physically fit, I memorise his/her face and make a mental note of where they are sitting,” said Bridger on US knowledge-sharing site Quora.
Should an emergency occur, crew may well call on these travellers to help them out.
“I consider this person a resource for me. In the event of an attack on the flight or on me, these are my ‘go-to’ people,” Bridger explained.
“If a situation looks like it could develop, I’ll privately and discreetly ask one of these people if they would be willing to help us if necessary.
“Help might involve subduing or restraining an unruly passenger. We hope it never happens, but we will prepare just in case it does.”
Bradley added that she would speak to these fliers during the flight to see if she can glean any pertinent information.
“During the flight, it is easier to continue assessing through chats during the service,” she told The Sun.
“It may come out they are fireman, in the army, an off duty pilot or cabin crew or a doctor, which is all useful information.”
Cabin crew do still manage to make their own fun while working and do sometimes use a certain code word if they spot someone on board they fancy.
Flight attendant Emily Witkop told the New York Post the term “hot coffee” means cabin crew like the look of you.
“I recall for a few years there was a ‘hot coffee’ code among flight attendants,” she said.
“You would say, ‘I’ve got hot coffee in 3B!’ Which meant there was an extremely attractive passenger in that particular seat who the other flight attendants should check out.”
Flights see cabin crew working hard to attend to the needs of the passengers on a plane. Sometimes travellers can expect a bit too much of the flight attendants, a former airline employee has revealed. Former air steward Elliott Hester explained one story he had been told by a female flight attendant. He made the revelation in his book Plane Insanity, in which he recalls his airborne experiences.
Hester revealed the female flight attendant experienced a very unpleasant incident involving a full nappy and an angry passenger.
“While a female flight attendant was serving food from the meal cart, a female passenger thrust a small bundle of trash toward her,” wrote Hester.
“‘Take this,’ the passenger demanded. Realising that the trash was actually a used baby diaper, the attendant instructed the passenger to take it to the lavatory herself and dispose of it.
“‘No’ the passenger replied. ‘You take it!’ The attendant explained that she couldn’t dispose of the dirty diaper because she was serving food – handling the diaper would be unsanitary.
“But that wasn’t a good enough answer for the passenger,” Hester continued. “Angered by her refusal, the passenger hurled the diaper at the flight attendant.
“It struck her square in the head, depositing chunks of baby dung that clung like peanut butter to her hair.
“The two women ended up wrestling on the floor. They had to be separated by passengers.”
Cabin crews’ horror at the behaviour of certain passengers does not stop there.
A flight attendant has said she is shocked when fliers walk about the cabin barefooted.
“Flight attendants have seen everything from vomit to blood to spilt food hit that carpet,” Linda Ferguson said.
“We see people walking from their seats into the bathrooms all the time barefoot and we cringe because those floors are full of germs.”
Linda, who worked as a flight attendant for 24 years, added: “Never walk barefoot into the bathroom or the galley area because sometimes we drop glasses and there could be sharp glass there, too.”
A man was recently caught on camera doing something even viler – urinating in the middle of the plane aisle.
A pile of tissues is on the floor and the passenger seems to be urinating directly into the rubbish. Some of the tissues in the aisle appear to have already soaked up a lot of liquid.
The man’s bare bottom is on full display as his underwear is pulled down to around his knees.
According to Russian media which shared the footage, the man was drunk when the incident occurred.
Pakistan International Airlines cabin crew face suspension should they tip the scales at 30lbs over the limit. The sensational claims were revealed as part of a staff memo, leaked to Pakistani outlet ARY News. It suggested those “obese” employees who weighed in at 30lbs – or 15 kilos – over an as yet unspecified figure would be “grounded”. Consequently, it is said to suggest their jobs were under threat should they not take action in the first six months of 2019.
The memo read: “If any crew found above 30 lbs. from the desired weight after 31st Jan, 2019, will be grounded and referred to Air Crew Medical Center for medical evaluation & treatment until weight is reduced up to desired standard/BMI.
“Henceforth, weight check of all the cabin crew will be carried out at their base stations respectively and comprehensive data will be maintained for perusal of management.”
Meanwhile, it has been reported a total of 1,800 staff were subject to the shock warning.
It was sent by Aamir Bashi, the airline’s general manager of flight service.
PIA spokesperson Mashhood Tajwar confirmed to Fox News the announcement was legitimate.
He added it would affect 100 cabin crew and said it was a “regular, routine matter.”
Mashed claimed it would ensure representatives were consequently ”slim, smart and fit.”
He continued: “”No one would like to have shabby crew in the aircraft.”
Pakistan International Airlines, often referred to by PIA, is the national flag carrier of Pakistan.
The carrier’s main hub is Karachi while Lahore and Islamabad serve as secondary hubs.
Recently, PIA took to Twitter to proudly celebrate the achievements of its cabin crew.
They uploaded a video of newly-qualified male and female members, wearing the official in-flight uniform.
Alongside, a caption put: “Our newly inducted Cabin Crew has completed the rigorous crew training and is now waiting to welcome you onboard!
“At a passing out ceremony held yesterday, 60 new crew members were certified to make your journey a more comfortable one.”
Express Online has contacted Pakistan International Airlines for comment.
An Emirates flight attendant couldn’t believe her eyes when something very surprising indeed happened while she was working. All the cabin crew and customers on board joined in to create a very magical moment. The flight attendant, called Vittoria, was treated to a romantic proposal by her boyfriend Stefano. Emirates shared a video of the event on their Instagram account where it has gone rapidly viral.
The enchanting footage shows Vittoria stepping into the cabin to be faced with tens of passengers holding up red balloons, signs and masks of Stefano’s face.
She stops still in her tracks and looks very shocked as one male passenger steps forward with a rose which she hesitantly takes.
As the truth dawns on her she starts to cry with happiness as she walks through the cabin.
Fliers hold up their phones to film the event as she is handed more roses and gifts.
Eventually she turns into the galley where her boyfriend Stefano is standing in a white shirt.
The couple embrace before Stefano gets down on one knee and asks her to marry him.
He takes her hand in his and holds out a ring as she can be seen nodding her assent.
The video ends as Stefano slips the sparkling ring onto Vittoria’s well-manicured finger.
Emirates captioned the video on Instagram: “Love is in the air(plane). Watch our customer Stefano surprise his girlfriend and Emirates’ cabin crew member Vittoria with a romantic in-flight proposal, with some help from our cabin crew and passengers.”
Viewers have been touched by the romantic scene and shared their thoughts online.
“This is beautiful!” one Instagram user wrote. Another posted: “Omg I can’t stop crying.”
“Awesome proposal,” a third viewer commented, while another added: “Why I always love flying Emirates.”
Emirates has recently been revealed as one of the safest airlines in the world for 2019.
Safety and product rating website airlineratings.com unveiled the top 20. They looked at audits from aviation’s governing and industry bodies; government audits; airline’s crash and serious incident record; profitability, industry-leading safety initiatives, and fleet age.
Qantas was named as the number one safest and British Airways, Lufthansa and American Airlines were also ranked.
According to AirlineRatings.com Editor-in-Chief Geoffrey Thomas, these airlines are standouts in the industry and are at the forefront of safety, innovation, and launching of new aircraft.
Passengers are currently allowed to take their mobile phones with them into a cabin during a flight. However, a number have recently caused alarm after setting alight due to their lithium batteries. In July, a Ryanair flight was evacuated after one caught fire after being charged by an external battery pack. This has led to a warning from cabin crew and government officials.
One dangerous risk is dropping a phone down the side of a chair, due to their thin design making it easy for them to fall into the gap.
Passengers then attempt to move their chair to locate it which can damage or even crush the internal battery.
This has led to some onboard problems with the battery then igniting.
Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority issued a warning in light of this.
They warned: “Smart phones can fall into aircraft seat mechanisms and be crushed when the seat is moved.
“Passengers are accidentally starting in-flight fires by crushing their lost phone with the reclining mechanism of their chair, damaging the device’s battery and sending it into thermal runaway.
“This can result in damage to the phone’s lithium battery which can cause overheating and fire.”
With nine incidents recorded in 2016 in Australia, this put the mobile phone on the “least wanted dangerous goods” list for the first time.
If the phone does fall then the “cabin crew should be alerted immediately”.
Passengers with uncharged gadgets may also be banned from taking it onboard.
All electronics must be charged if they are in the hand luggage.
The UK government advise that all gadgets are either with an external charger so they can be immediately charged to be checked or are already charged before going through security.
This also includes tablets and laptops which are now allowed in the cabin following a brief ban.
Travellers who find themselves with a dead electrical item may have to delay their trip as they find a charging point.
Flights require cabin crew to serve food to passengers and attend to all their needs. However, they don’t always want the fliers to know what they are talking about – whether it’s a serious problem or a joke between the crew. They often use code words to secretly communicate with each other, it has been revealed. And there’s one term in particular they will put to use if they see someone who they like the look of.
Flight attendant Emily Witkop revealed that one code word was related to a popular beverage.
She told the New York Post the term “hot coffee” means cabin crew fancy you.
“I recall for a few years there was a ‘hot coffee’ code among flight attendants,” she said.
“You would say, ‘I’ve got hot coffee in 3B!’ Which meant there was an extremely attractive passenger in that particular seat who the other flight attendants should check out.”
This isn’t the only way you can tell if a flight attendant has their eye on you.
When passengers are leaving the plane after the aircraft has landed, the cabin crew congregate by the door to say goodbye
However, the way they say goodbye is, in fact, part of a game they are playing with each other as they identify which passengers they think are attractive.
The cabin crew will use one code word, in particular, to convey their feelings to their colleagues.
A crew member revealed this flight secret on UK cabin crew forum cabincrew.com.
“There’s the cheerio game you can play when passengers disembark,” the flight attendant wrote on the website.
“When you’re standing there going ‘buh-bye, thank you, take care’ etc when you see someone you fancy, you say ‘cheerio.’”
“You need to do it with a buddy and the challenge is to keep a straight face.”
James, a flight attendant for seven years, spoke to Australian radio show Kyle & Jackie O, about another way crew share their crushes with their colleagues.
He told the radio hosts: “Obviously when we are in the cabin and we are doing the drinks we can’t just be like ‘Oh doll check him out,’ you have to be subtle about it.
“Because everyone knows their seat numbers, so we’re on the cart and he’ll be like, ‘I’m thinking of doing seven days in America… being ‘seat 7A’.
“And I’ll be like, ‘yeah, I could do seven days in America!’ “Or like, six days in Denmark.”
For travellers who are looking to get an upgrade, this is what you need to do to persuade the cabin crew.
