Two-and-a-half years since a leaked Access Hollywood tape upended his career, Billy Bush is making a return to television.

The TV personality is set to host Extra Extra, a new iteration of the syndicated newsmagazine Extra that will air on Fox this fall. Per People, which first reported the news of Bush’s hiring, the show will feature a modernized set and an in-depth look at topics including pop culture, sports and politics.

Bush’s Extra Extra gig marks his first TV job since getting fired from Today in 2016, following the leak of a now-infamous Access Hollywood tape. The unearthed recording from 2005 featured Donald Trump and Bush engaging in a lewd conversation about groping and kissing women without their consent. At the time of the tape’s release, Bush said he was “embarrassed and ashamed” that he had “acted foolishly in playing along” with Trump.

He later told Late Show host Stephen Colbert that he had attended a soul-searching retreat in the wake of getting fired, acknowledging the “unbelievable irony” of losing his job while Trump went on to be elected president.

As he prepares to return to TV this fall, Bush told People that he “had the opportunity to grow up a little bit” after spending more than two years without a steady job.

“I own the moment. It was a bad moment. And I was in it,” Bush said. “But one moment doesn’t define your life… A good wallop on the side of the head makes you, changes you, and I’m a better version of the man I was.”

Extra Extra premieres Monday, Sept. 9 on Fox.

Thousands of people showed up to do just that — carrying flags and signs or placing coins along the tracks to be flattened by the memorial train.

The train traveled from Houston, where a second memorial service was held at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, to the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Memorial, where he was interred in the family plot with his wife Barbara Bush and daughter Robin Bush, who died at age 3 of leukemia.

The former commander in chief died on November 30, 2018 at age 94. His casket lay in state in the Capitol Rotunda on Monday, and a service — attended by every living president — was held in the National Cathedral on Wednesday.

US President Donald Trump’s arrival at the funeral service for President George H.W. Bush seemed to spoil the mood among the former Democrat presidents, who had been laughing and chatting just moments earlier.

Wednesday was declared a day of mourning in the US, as services for the former president (1989-1993) unfolded at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC. All the living former occupants of the White House gathered at the funeral, including Jimmy Carter (1977-1981), Bill Clinton (1993-2001), George W. Bush (2001-2009) and Barack Obama (2009-2017).

The Carters, Clintons, and Obamas were seated together in the left pew. The arrival of Donald and Melania Trump seemed to sour their mood, however, as the chatter among them abruptly stopped and their faces turned sullen.

Cable news commentators made much of the fact that Trump shook hands and exchanged greetings with the Obamas, but did not move down the pew to do the same with the Clintons or the Carters.

Fox News host Chris Wallace was struck by the change of atmosphere.

“I have to say I was struck when President Trump and Melania Trump came to the front row that it was as if a chill had descended,” Wallace said on air.

Body language expert Judi James described the change even more vividly.

“You might spot the second Trump arrived,” she told The Sun, even before the cameras zoomed in on him. “Till then the gathering of earlier presidents had concerned some comparatively relaxed shows of sociable physique language. However, all of a sudden – like a herd of animals sensing a lion – their poses and non-verbal indicators morphed into one thing much more cautious and stony-faced.”

It was the younger Bush who relaxed the atmosphere a bit, greeting everyone in the presidential pew before joining his family members in the opposite row. He even seemed to slip another cough drop to Michelle Obama, the way he did at Senator John McCain’s funeral in August.

  • Former President George H.W. Bush died on Friday, November 30, at age 94.
  • George W. Bush, Barack Obama, former first lady Michelle Obama, and others reacted to the 41st president’s death, and offered remembrances of his duty and public service.

Former president George H.W. Bush died on Friday, November 30, at age 94.

Former presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, and the former first lady Michelle Obama are among the Washington heavyweights who reacted to the 41st president’s death and offered remembrances of his duty and public service.

As news of Bush’s death spread across the world, international leaders in and outside of politics, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, former Soviet premier Mikhail Gorbachev, the Dalai Lama, and Apple Inc. CEO Tim Cook also spoke fondly of Bush’s time as a leader.

Former President George W. Bush

“Jeb, Neil, Marvin, Doro, and I are saddened to announce that after 94 remarkable years, our dear dad has died,” the statement from H.W. Bush’s son and fellow former president read. “George H.W. Bush was a man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for. The entire Bush family is deeply grateful for 41’s life and love, for the compassion of those who have cared and prayed for dad, and for the condolences of our friends and fellow citizens.”

Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama

“America has lost a patriot and humble servant in George Herbert Walker Bush,” the statement from the Obamas said. “While our hearts are heavy today, they are also filled with gratitude. Not merely for the years he spent as our forty-first President, but for the more than 70 years he spent in devoted service to the country he loved – from a decorated Naval aviator who nearly gave his life in World War II, to Commander-in-Chief of our Armed Forces, with plenty of posts along the way. Ambassador to the United Nations. Director of Central Intelligence. U.S. Envoy to China. Vice President of the United States.”

“After seventy-three years of marriage, George and Barbara Bush are together again now, two points of light that never dimmed, two points of light that ignited countless others with their example – the example of a man who, even after commanding the world’s mightiest military, once said ‘I got more of a kick out of being one of the founders of the YMCA in Midland, Texas back in 1952 than almost anything I’ve done,'” the statement continued.

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump

“Melania and I join with a grieving Nation to mourn the loss of former President George H.W. Bush, who passed away last night,” President Trump and the first lady said in a statement.

“Through his essential authenticity, disarming wit, and unwavering commitment to faith, family and country, President Bush inspired generations of his fellow Americans to public service — to be hin his words, ‘a thousand points of light’ illuminating greatness, hope, and opportunity of American to the world,” the statement continued.

George H.W. Bush Dead at 94 https://briefnews.eu/george-h-w-bush-dead-at-94/ https://briefnews.eu/george-h-w-bush-dead-at-94/#respond Sat, 01 Dec 2018 05:18:54 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/george-h-w-bush-dead-at-94/

George H.W. Bush, who served as President of the United States from 1989 to 1993, has died at the age of 94.

The former President’s office confirmed the news with a statement on Friday night:

A World War II veteran who served as ambassador to the United Nations and director of the CIA, Bush was elected Vice President in 1980 as President Ronald Reagan’s running mate and served in that role for eight years. Bush then ran for President in 1988 and won, beating Democrat Michael Dukakis. Bush ran for reelection in 1992, but was defeated by Democrat Bill Clinton, capping his time in the White House at one term.

Bush’s wife Barbara passed away in April at the age of 92; the two had been married for 73 years. He and Barbara are survived by five children, including former President George W. Bush and former Florida governor Jeb Bush, and 17 grandchildren.

Bush was a frequent target of satire during his time in the White House, most memorably by Dana Carvey’s impression of him on NBC’s Saturday Night Live. Bush also “guest starred” (actually voiced by cast member Harry Shearer) in a 1996 episode of The Simpsons that saw the Bushes move in across the street from Homer and his family.

Bush cricket the secret behind Georgia’s rapid rise https://briefnews.eu/bush-cricket-the-secret-behind-georgias-rapid-rise/ https://briefnews.eu/bush-cricket-the-secret-behind-georgias-rapid-rise/#respond Thu, 15 Nov 2018 03:15:16 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/bush-cricket-the-secret-behind-georgias-rapid-rise/ Getting hit by men in bush cricket has not broken teenage legspinner Georgia Wareham, instead it has given her the perseverance required to force her way into the Australian women’s T20 team.

At 19, Wareham has been one of the surprises for Australia as she continues to hold her spot with experienced tweaker Jess Jonassen sitting on the sidelines in the Caribbean.

It’s Wareham’s temperament that made coach Matt Mott and senior Australian teammates take notice in the past six months after impressing in winter training.

On the fields of Mortlake 250km west of Melbourne, Wareham had little choice but to be that way as a 14-year-old.

“I grew up playing men’s cricket,” she said.

“It’s a bit different I always used to get smashed around every now and then. It doesn’t faze me that much knowing I’m always in the game whenever batters are going hard.

“In Mortlake which is three hours from Melbourne, there wasn’t that much women’s cricket around.

“That did a world of good for me playing with the men.” Wareham began her senior cricket in men’s division three when she was barely a high school student – the same age when most girls are funnelled into women’s-only grade cricket in the major cities.

Within two seasons she was playing in the women’s Big Bash League with the Renegades, but she still made time to play for Mortlake when she was home. Wareham has taken nine wickets in her first nine T20 internationals. It was her ability to keep tossing the ball up against New Zealand on Wednesday (AEDT), after being hit in her first over, that got Katey Martin stumped and began the White Ferns’ collapse.

It’s also kept her in the squad headed into the tournament’s finals, with the undefeated Australians already into the final four going into their last group game against India.

“She’s got a great temperament, she can deal really well with getting hit occasionally and comes back really well,” Mott said.

“Her style of bowling was really suited to us and she attacked the stumps a lot and beats both sides of the bat.

“She’s also one of the best fielders in the world and quick between the wickets. As an all-round T20 package she was pretty irresistible.”

Hitler was BETTER than Trump, ex-Reagan & Bush official says https://briefnews.eu/hitler-was-better-than-trump-ex-reagan-bush-official-says/ https://briefnews.eu/hitler-was-better-than-trump-ex-reagan-bush-official-says/#respond Tue, 23 Oct 2018 23:51:46 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/hitler-was-better-than-trump-ex-reagan-bush-official-says/

Trump’s liberal critics have compared him to Hitler since before the election, but a former Bush Sr. aide took a step further off a rhetorical cliff, tweeting several ways the Nazi leader compares favorably to Trump.

Former Bush official Bruce Bartlett tweeted several ways in which Trump compares unfavorably to Adolph (sic) Hitler – military service, marital fidelity, even penning one’s own iconic book (at least Mein Kampf never made it to #1 on the NY Times bestseller list). Most importantly, Hitler hated the Russians – today’s ultimate get-out-of-history’s-jail-free card.

Bartlett’s tweet is deliberately outrageous, but it does expose the rhetorical fallout from constantly comparing the US president to Hitler. After all, where do you go from Hitler? Two Hitlers?

After helping draft the Reagan tax cuts, Bartlett served as a senior policy analyst and later a Treasury Department official under George Bush Sr. He was an outspoken critic of George W., however, criticizing the younger Bush’s economic policies in his book Impostor in 2006 and later blaming the 2008 financial crisis and subsequent recession on the Shrub.

With the younger Bush safely out of politics (and pursuing his artistic talents), Bartlett has turned his sights on Trump, cashing in on the “fake news” hysteria with a book called Truth Matters that purports to teach the reader how to “ensure truth is not a permanent casualty.” “Reading critically, judging sources, using fact-checking sites, avoiding confirmation bias, identifying trustworthy experts” are all skills only Bartlett can teach, according to this book.

Bush has experienced a reputational renaissance lately among liberals who think two bloody wars and 1.5 million bankruptcies are more forgivable crimes than Trump’s immigration fearmongering and pandering to blue-collar white voters. Michelle Obama’s recent quip about George W. being her “partner in crime” also helped warm their hearts.

Trump has been compared to Hitler so often that even his supporters joke about it, and the comparison long ago lost the power to shock. Pundits who jumped to compare The Donald to Der Fuhrer may not have realized they were exhausting their rhetorical ammunition at one go – and comments like Bartlett’s are now what it takes to squeeze some more punch out of the parallel.

There are a few points left they can use against Trump. Hitler was a vegetarian, right? Doesn’t Trump like a big, juicy steak?
