The former Speaker slammed his accusers as “entitled people” that felt they should have it their way.  During an interview on the BBC’s The One Show, Mr Bercow was also grilled about the savage comments he made regarding former Prime Ministers David Cameron and Theresa May in his book. 

Speaking regarding Bercow’s book the BBC’s Alex Jones said: “We have got some quotes here from the book.

“You say about William Hague, buttoned-up cold fish mechanical ex-teenage nerd. 

“David Cameron, born with a silver trolly service in his mouth. 

“Theresa May, particularly unkind about Theresa May, dull as ditchwater as wooden as your average coffee table.

“John, it’s a bit much that!”

Mr Bercow replied: “No, I don’t think it is a bit much at all. 

“I was very candid in my portraits of all of those people but you have quoted all the most negative points I make about those people.”

The BBC’s Matt Baker then said: “This is tied into the accusations of bullying that we have been hearing about in the press.

“Now and again there were people who were less than cooperative and resisted change or tried to thwart not just my will but the will of most people in the house, so of course, I pressed for what I wanted. 

“There is one common thread and that is a number of somewhat upper-crust, very posh, quite self-important and entitled people who felt that the natural order of things was that they should not just have their say but also have their way.

“They didn’t like it when I dared to say no it may have been done that way before but we are going to do it differently now.

“It is a pity that in a sense people have tried to weaponise bullying.

“I repeat I have never bullied anyone.”

The global chemical corporation has “specifically gone out of its way to bully … and to fight independent researchers,” said attorney Brent Wisner, speaking at a crowded San Francisco courtroom on Monday.

Wisner is representing DeWayne Johnson, a California man who worked as a school groundskeeper and came in regular contact with Monsanto’s weed killer. DeWayne was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) in 2014 and has now taken Monsanto to trial over allegations that glyphosate – the herbicide marketed as Roundup – is linked to cancer.

Although similar claims have been made across the US, this case is the first one in which the judge has allowed Johnson’s lawyers to present scientific arguments. Wisner said that he would use testimony and commentary from 10 current or former Monsanto employees to help make the case that the corporation has allegedly been suppressing evidence of the chemical’s cancer risks.

Monsanto lawyer George Lombardi said in his opening remarks that science was on the company’s side, and that years of research had not found any credible links between glyphosate-based products and cancer. The US Environmental Protection Agency also found no “meaningful risks to human health” from glyphosate, while a federal judge in Sacramento blocked California from introducing cancer warning labels on Roundup.

However, in 2015, the World Health Organization’s international agency for research on cancer (IARC) classified glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic to humans”. Monsanto has since staunchly rejected that assessment.

Meanwhile, hundreds of similar but unrelated cases, filed by cancer survivors against Monsanto, also received a boost on Tuesday, following the ruling by US District Judge Vince Chhabria in San Francisco. The judge ruled that the plaintiffs may call in experts to testify in courts to provide scientific reasoning to back up their claims. Chhabria said, however, that the evidence, “viewed in its totality, seems too equivocal to support any firm conclusion” that glyphosate causes non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Nevertheless, the opinion of experts he saw did not amount to “junk science” and can be presented in courts.

While Monsanto continues to insist its products are safe, Johnson’s legal team argued that such a position was a result of a “scientific fraud.” Citing internal Monsanto emails, Wisner argued that the company rejected critical research and expert warnings over the years, while using manipulative marketing practices to whitewash glyphosate’s potential risks. “They fought science,” he said.

In one email presented by Wisner during the first day of the trial, Monsanto employees were provided guidance on how they could publicly discuss the science behind Roundup. The email stated: “You cannot say that Roundup does not cause cancer.” Monsanto’s lawyer claimed that the message was taken out of context. Wisner also cited documents showing that Monsanto ignored employees who’d called for tests to be carried out on Roundup’s effect on humans, and that the company strategized on ways of “ghostwriting” favorable research.

Monsanto, which is now a unit of Bayer AG following a $ 62.5 billion takeover, has a longstanding notoriety dating back to its production of Agent Orange, a defoliant chemical used by the US military during the Vietnam War, linked to the poisoning of soil in large areas of the country and genetic deformities in generations of Vietnamese children.

The runner-up in the ITV programme appeared on Loose Women earlier today to discuss his time in the jungle when the chat turned to the most controversial moment of the series. 

Jamie, 42, was accused of bullying Iain, 44, along with fellow campmates Amir Khan, 31, and Dennis Wise, 51.

After insisting that everyone has remained friends, skeptical Saira Khan demanded to know if the Hollyoaks hunk was really telling the truth. 

Clearly fed-up of the allegations, Jamie snapped: “It’s nonsense.

“You see an hour a day, edited. People are entitled to have an opinion – Amir and Dennis are the nicest people ever.

“I wish it would go away now,” Jamie admitted. 

This comes as Iain slammed rumours that he had been bullied on the show, telling viewers of the Coming Out spin-off: “There was no bullying going on. 

“Let’s quash this rumour once and for all. Bullying is a very serious thing. It’s a huge word. 

“There was no bullying whatsoever,” he admitted. 

However, his own sister came out and insisted that he was in fact “bullied”. 

Jo Angell fumed: “Trust me, it wasn’t easy at times. There was a lot going on behind the scenes and as an anxious person it pushed me to my limits. 

“Some of us even got to see what went on (and what was said) behind the scenes. It wasn’t pretty.

“I hope that one day in the not-too distant future Iain and I can tell you the whole story. It’s guaranteed to blow your mind,” she insisted.

Iain hit out at his own fans online after the way they stood up for him turned nasty, as Rebekah Vardy thanked him for “clearing up” the situation.

Supporters of Iain have taken to Twitter over the past few weeks to stand up against the “bullying” he endured while in the ITV jungle.

The radio presenter has since explained that the word bullying “is a bit strong” to describe Rebekah, Amir Khan, Jamie Lomas and Dennis Wise’s behaviour.

After the Coming Out show aired on Friday evening, Iain said: “There was no bullying going on.

“Let’s quash this rumour once and for all. Bullying is a very serious thing. It’s a huge word. There was no bullying whatsoever.”

Rebekah tweeted her former campmate to thank him for “clearing up” the bullying claims, but Iain admitted he had not seen what had happened behind his back.

He said: “Bullying is a strong word. But I was unaware of a lot of what was said behind my back and also what some people said about me after they’d left.

“And now I feel very nervous about the potential reaction to that previous tweet. All I know is strawberries to one side, I did not lie or bad mouth anyone anytime in the camp. I was rude about Stanley once but confessed immediately. I was honest and me.

“I hadn’t seen the comments made behind my back or the ones made by some camp mates when they left. I still suggest the word bullying is too strong. But.”

Iain later added: “I’ve only watched a few clips of the show. The trials were exhilarating. Other bits made me sad and were very confusing. Probably won’t watch the rest. Still, it was a mainly positive experience despite everything. Glad I did it.”

Speaking directly to his fans, Iain warned: “Please be polite to anyone connected with the show on here. Whatever you think of them please, don’t send abusive messages to anyone. Certainly not in my name. If you do and I see, I will block you.”

In tonight’s spin off show Coming Out, the wife of Leicester City footballer Jamie Vardy burst into tears as she learned of the accusations.

An emotional Rebekah was comforted by her father and eldest daughter following the chat with her management team who updated her on the show’s major talking point.

Fiercely denying the allegations made by fans, she said: “You know what, I was the one that was being the most supportive of him.

“A bully? I’ve never been a bully in my whole entire life.”

Viewers claimed Rebekah, Dennis Wise, Amir Khan and Jamie Lomas “bullied” radio host Iain as he struggled to bring back meals for camp in the Bushtucker Trials.

When former footballer Dennis was booted out of the jungle, Rebekah immediately brought up the issue with him.

She told the 50-year-old: “I came out to the biggest s**t storm. And you know I don’t get upset about things and you know I’m really strong but I actually cried in the car.

“It really upset me. Something so strong has been said about not just me. You, Jamie, Amir. That we were part of a gang.”

In the one-off episode, Iain, who finished in third place, quickly set the record straight about the accusations when he was voted out of the jungle.

He stated: “There was no bullying going on. Let’s quash this rumour once and for all. Bullying is a very serious thing. It’s a huge word. There was no bullying whatsoever.”

Georgia “Toff” Toffolo was crowned Queen of the Jungle last weekend and in the spin off, the 22-year-old admits she found “such happiness” living in camp.
