US tennis great Vitas Gerulaitis once declared that “nobody beats Vitas Gerulaitis 17 times in a row” after ending Jimmy Connors’ 16-match winning streak against him.

The Bullets know how Gerulaitis felt after putting a dent in their own hoodoo with a 104-85 win over Illawarra at the Brisbane Convention Centre on Thursday night.

Since the Bullets re-entered the NBL in the 2016-17 season, the Hawks had won eight of the nine clashes between the sides.

Illawarra owned Brisbane when you added four pre-season wins to the tally. But the Bullets put a stop to the rot to claim their fifth win of the season and temporarily climb back into the NBL’s top four.

Bullets import Lamar Patterson oozed class with 24 points, five rebounds, six assists and two steals. He was head and shoulders above everyone on the court.

Jason Cadee (15 points, five assists) and Cam Gliddon (15 points) were the chief support acts for the Bullets who found their range at the offensive end and produced defensive stops at the right times.

Mika Vukona (11 points, eight rebounds), Reuben Te Rangi (11 points) and Stephen Holt (12 points) also did plenty of damage coming off the bench for Brisbane.

Brian Conklin and AJ Ogilvy added 16 points apiece to be the best for the Hawks who slumped to their fifth loss in six matches and a 3-7 record.

The Bullets were staring down the barrel of a fourth-straight loss which would have dumped them down to seventh on the ladder.

But they blew the Hawks off the court in third quarter, outscoring the visitors 24-13 to set-up a 79-66 buffer at the last change.

With Cadee leading the charge for Brisbane with eight points and two assists for the third term, Brisbane emerged from the halftime break with all guns blazing and they rediscovered their upbeat offensive tempo.

Brisbane led 55-53 at halftime after the Hawks fought their way back into the contest in a scrappy second quarter with Patterson (13 points, three assists) and Gliddon (12 points from four of five three-point attempts) leading the way for the Bullets.

Aided by a lopsided foul count of 13-7 at halftime — and 10-6 in the second quarter alone — Illawarra upped their defensive intensity after allowing Brisbane to shoot at a remarkable 68 per cent from the fields in the first term.

Brisbane got out to a 13-point cushion late in the first quarter before taking a 35-24 advantage into the first break with seven players getting on the scoreboard for the deadly accurate and freewheeling home side.

The Bullets went on a blistering 10-run early in the first quarter to stamp their authority on the match.

But under astute head coach Rob Beveridge, the Hawks have the ability to make significant in-game adjustments and they were able to shutdown Brisbane’s free-flowing offence while exploiting their size advantage with Conklin, Ogilvy the prime movers in the second quarter comeback.

They also asked investigators to take measures so that the sale and future minting of the coin are prevented and the people behind the stunt are found and brought to justice.

However, the Communists of Russia were so adept at attracting media attention that it eventually allowed them to register as a political party and even put forward their leader, Maxim Suraikin, as a candidate in the 2018 presidential election (Suraikin finished seventh with less than one percent of votes, while the candidate from the other, ‘real’, communist party came in second with over 11 percent).

The failed assassination attempt against Vladimir Lenin by Fanny Kaplan (real name: Feiga Roytblat) took place in Moscow on August 30, 2018. The leader of the Bolshevik Revolution delivered a speech to a group of workers and was walking to his car when Kaplan approached and fired three rounds at him point blank.

The woman was immediately detained and put on trial, during which she explained that she wanted to kill Lenin because he had banned her party, the Socialist-Revolutionaries (SR), and she considered him a traitor to the working people’s cause.

The trial lasted just three days, after which Kaplan was executed and her body was burnt in a barrel.

Lenin survived the hit but the wounds seriously undermined his health and many researchers believe them to be the main cause of his subsequent stroke and death.

“We are cracking down on the unfair trade practices of China… We have rebuilt China. We have given them such wealth. And we are changing it,” Trump told the cheering crowd. “So we charged 25 percent on $ 50 billion worth of merchandise tariffs coming in. And then they said, ‘We’re going to do the same thing’. And I’ve said: ‘That is okay. We have far more bullets’.”

China said it will institute new tariffs on US goods worth $ 60 billion from September 24, after the US administration slapped new levies on Beijing’s exports.

While both the Chinese and US measures are set to go into effect Monday, Trump previously noted that the initial 10 percent tariffs would rise to 25 percent on January 1, 2019. The world’s two largest economic superpowers have already applied tariffs on $ 50 billion of each other’s imports.

While the US keeps accusing China of refusing to buy American products to maintain a “fair” trade balance, Beijing is complaining that Washington’s protectionist practices are detrimental to the entire global economy – and has even taken up the issue with the World Trade Organization.

Yet, despite Beijing’s willingness to negotiate some kind of a deal to stop the escalation of the trade war, the White House is trying to coerce their partner into submission. In a separate slap on the wrist, just days after announcing the new $ 200bn levies, the Trump administration introduced sanctions against China’s leading arms acquisition body and its director, over the purchase of Russian Su-35 multi-role fighters and S-400 missile defense systems. Beijing immediately hit back at the US administration, urging it “to remedy the mistake and cancel the sanctions” which forbid arms export licenses and foreign exchange transactions under US jurisdiction.

The resurgent Brisbane will be aiming for their four-straight win – a feat the club has not achieved since its rebirth at the start of the 2016-17 NBL season.

Away victories over Sydney, Cairns and Perth in the past fortnight have shot the Bullets from seventh on the ladder to fifth place with a 7-8 win-loss record.

The Bullets have triumphed in four of their past five outings with their last home game on December 3 sparking the rich vein of form when Brisbane beat then league-leaders New Zealand.

Despite transforming from underdog road warriors to heavy home favourites, Bullets coach Andrej Lemanis insists Brisbane’s approach will remain the same.

“For us, nothing changes. We don’t get too high on the highs or too low on the lows. Each day is the same, you come to work and try to get better,’’ Lemanis said.

“It is still all about the process. It’s been nice to get rewarded with a few wins to validate the work we have been doing and the confidence that comes with those wins certainly helps.

“We feel like we’ve been playing well the past month without getting the results but we always believed if we stayed on the right path that things would turn.

“But the competition is so tight and every team is so talented so we have to keep doing what we’ve been doing which is play well.’’

Sydney is last on the ladder at 4-13 but the Kings pushed New Zealand to the limit on Thursday night after beating Cairns last Sunday.

Brisbane also had to dig deep to come away with a hard-fought 85-77 win in Sydney in Round 9.

Lemanis has the utmost respect for the star-power at Gaze’s disposal with the likes of reigning NBL MVP Jerome Randle, explosive imports Jeremy Tyler and Perry Ellis and Boomers duo Brad Newley and Jason Cadee all presenting threats to Brisbane.

“When you look at their roster, they have tremendous talent. It always amuses me when people talk about a team at the top of the ladder playing against a team at the bottom because there’s not much difference between the two,’’ Lemanis said.

“They are a bit like us in that they’ve had their disruptions due to injury and have taken their time to find some rhythm.

“We absolutely need to come out and play well. Absolutely we do.’’

Lemanis said the way the entire Bullets squad had bought in to their roles had been central to their climb up the ladder while the return of guard Adam Gibson from a calf injury had given Brisbane invaluable poise along with good defence and the ability to hit a timely bucket.

“We missed Gibbo when he was out. He has such a great understanding of the game and such a high basketball IQ that he gets everyone on the same page quickly out there. He just knows what needs to be done,’’ Lemanis said.

Not that these creatures make it easy to love them, forcing players to weave through some complex bullet arrays just to make these monsters feel the warmth of friendship.

The Void Rains Upon Her Heart follows an alien girl who’s trapped in a cave that’s surrounded by monsters. To escape, she means to calm their anger with the power of love, which just so happens to involve shooting them with love beams. To land these shots, players will have to carefully move around their blasts and land their own shots (and there’s various challenge levels players can tackle each of these enemies on). If players survive, they’ll get a random power-up gift that will help them in the next fight. Lose, and it’s back to the start of the game.

Players won’t know what’s coming for them on each run, as the bosses are randomized, with each offering its own unique attacks and weaknesses whenever the game throws them at you. As players work through them, they’ll also unlock bits of poetic story about the alien girl, offering a further heartwarming touch to helping these monsters find affection. Even if you do kind of shoot them in the face with it.

A “large amount” of ammunition was discovered Sunday evening near a Christmas market in Berlin, prompting the police to sweep the area. Authorities, however, claim the discovery is not uncommon, and unlikely linked to terrorism.

The ammunition, according to the publication, was discovered by a tenant of an underground car park at Spandauer Damm. The individual immediately alerted police. The munitions were allegedly found behind a stack of winter tires in a small plastic bag.

There were around 200 rounds of new 7.65 caliber ammunition, according to the report. The cartridges were in sealed plastic bags and in their original boxes.

The person who discovered the suspicious package turned it over to police. Local police then alerted state security authorities. Police contacted a forensic science unit to examine the evidence. They are hoping to recover DNA traces to help in identifying possible suspects.

“Due to the proximity of the ammunition storage to the Christmas market, and the fact that above the underground car park is a mosque, a dangerous situation is [being] assumed,” Bild reported citing police.

Authorities quickly deployed dog units and searched a nearby park for more possible weapons or ammunition stockpiles, trying to determine if there was any credible threat. Riot police were also deployed to the scene of the Christmas market at Charlottenburg Palace.

“So far there are no further finds,” said police spokesman Winfrid Wenzel. “It is unclear to whom the ammunition belonged to.”

However, authorities say there is “no suspicion” of any terrorism related plot yet, insisting it’s not uncommon to find ditched ammunition in Berlin.

“Ammunition is always being found in Berlin,” a police spokesman was quoted as saying by Reuters. “Somebody was probably clearing their cellar out and found something from their grandfather.”

Police also has no immediate reason to believe the discovery is somehow linked to the Christmas market or the mosque.

Germany is currently still on high alert, with Christmas markets considered to be sensitive locations and potential targets for extremists because of to the large presence of civilians. On December 19, 2016, a truck was deliberately rammed into the Christmas market beside Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church at the Breitscheidplatz in Berlin. The terrorist attack left 12 people dead and 56 others injured. The perpetrator was a rejected asylum seeker from Tunisia who was killed in a shootout with police near Milan, Italy four days later. The Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) claimed responsibility for the terrorist act.

It turns out Batman might be a bit of a jerk when it comes to keeping law and order in Gotham.

A disturbing video has been released showing a man firing six shots into the air while sitting inside a car in Germany. The incident happened in broad daylight at a wedding ceremony in Duisburg, in North Rhine-Westphalia.

A local resident who filmed the incident told the Bild tabloid that “the party blocked the entire street,” adding that “the gunman even pointed his gun at a motorist in the oncoming traffic.”

“There were Turkish flags on display,” the witness said. Bild draws the obvious conclusion that this must have been a Turkish wedding.

By the time law enforcement officers arrived, the party was already over.

Such incidents are increasingly common, police said.

“Unfortunately, the incident does not surprise us. We are aware of the problem. The thing is, when we arrive at the scene, the perpetrators are already gone or we cannot find any weapons,” said local police spokesman Ramon van der Maat.
