<p>The Jet2 flight returned from Spain last night to Leeds at 9:45pm when the incident occurred.</p>
<p>After landing, two ambulances and a Hazardous Area Response team were dispatched to the area.</p>
<p>Passengers were reportedly being violently sick due to the bug after landing at the airport.</p>
<p>No-one was reported to have been taken to hospital.</p>

<p>One passenger told Yorkshire Evening Post: &#8220;We were stuck on the run way for nearly a hour waiting for the emergency services to attend and give us the all clear.&#8221;</p>
<p>Another took to Facebook to praise the services of the crew, saying people onboard were &ldquo;dropping like flies,&rdquo; according to the BBC.</p>
<p>West Yorkshire Police Sergeant Chris Brumfitt tweeted images at the time of the response.</p>
<p>He wrote: &ldquo;Joint emergency service response to Leeds / Bradford airport tonight after reports of a number of people falling ill on an in-bound flight.</p>
<p>&ldquo;Fortunately nothing more than a sickness bug.&rdquo;</p>

<p>A spokesperson for Jet2 confirmed to Express.co.uk: &ldquo;We can confirm that the crew on board flight LS298 from Reus to Leeds Bradford Airport arranged an ambulance for two passengers who were taken ill.</p>
<p>&ldquo;The crew were alerted to a further two, non-associated cases of passengers feeling unwell on board.</p>
<p>&ldquo;On arrival, as a precaution they were immediately checked over in the ambulance before heading home.</p>
<p>&ldquo;All other passengers disembarked as normal and continued their journeys. The safety and care of our customers is always our first priority.&rdquo;</p>
<p>Sickness bugs can spread very easily on a plane thanks to the circulated air inside the cabin.</p>

<p>Turning the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.express.co.uk/travel/articles/846704/airline-secrets-plane-air-vent" target="_blank">air vent</a> off above a seat, however, could mean catching even more germs.</p>
<p>The blast of air from the overhead fan can help push any germs in the air that are spread through compartments of the plane ctowards the floor.</p>
<p>The medical director at Lahey Medical Center-Peabody told Travel + Leisure it can block particles that spread through the air from the passenger.</p>
<p>He said: &ldquo;As a rule of thumb, the air that you&rsquo;re typically breathing and exposed to is usually anywhere from two to five rows surrounding your seat.&rdquo;</p>
<p>The air vent therefore pushes the air downwards which can help to avoid falling sick.</p>

<p>The Chagas disease, which used to be contained in Central and South America (infecting <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/chagas/gen_info/detailed.html">at least</a> eight million people) has reached the US, infecting hundreds of thousands across 27 states. <p>A <a target="_blank" href="http://newsroom.heart.org/news/chagas-disease-caused-by-a-parasite-has-spread-outside-of-latin-america-and-carries-a-high-risk-of-heart-disease">statement</a> from the American Heart Association (AHA), aimed at increasing global awareness among physicians, warns that US doctors need to learn to recognize and treat Chagas before a devastating outbreak occurs.</p>
<p><em>&ldquo;Early detection of Chagas disease is critical, allowing prompt initiation of therapy when the evidence for cure is strong,&rdquo;</em> wrote Caryn Bern, professor of epidemiology and biostatistics at the University of California in San Francisco, in the online statement.</p>
<p>Doctors can detect the disease through a simple blood test and, if caught early, it can be treated by medication. <em>&#8220;If untreated, infection is lifelong and can be life-threatening,&#8221;</em> the CDC warns.</p>
<p>The Chagas disease is caused by a parasite transmitted by a blood-sucking insect called triatomine, known as the <em>&ldquo;kissing bug,&#8221;</em> because it tends to bite people&rsquo;s faces near their mouth and can cause strokes and heart failure. About 30 percent of infected people can develop life-threatening complications, including chronic heart disease.</p>

<p>The bug then spreads the parasite, known as Trypanosoma cruzi (T cruzi), by defecating near the bite, which the victims can then unwittingly move into the open wound, or their eyes or mouth.</p>
<p>The disease has been labelled a silent killer because 70 percent of people don&rsquo;t develop any signs of infection. Symptoms can include fever, lethargy, aches, rashes and swollen glands.</p>
