Good Morning Britain returned to ITV this morning with the final instalment of the week and it was the turn of Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway to present.

Within the first hour of the show, those watching at home saw the hosts discuss Christmas, which is only 110 days away.

Perhaps a little early, they were getting into the spirit as they sampled a Christmas turkey dinner ice-cream.

Unfortunately for Kate, it seemed she couldn’t stomach the delicate blend of tastes and was seen spitting it out into a bucket.

“Turkey gravy caramel ice cream base with a herby stuffing pine nut praline, rippled with tart cranberry sauce…” Ben explained but was cut off by the sound of Kate mumbling her dislike.

“Oh no that’s horrible, that’s horrible,” Kate said. The camera then shot to her and briefly showed her putting down the ice-cream and reaching below the desk.

Charlotte Hawkins came into view, and while she tried to compose her reaction, her face suggested otherwise as a look of disgust spread across it.

“That is absolutely disgusting I’m sorry,” Kate remarked spitting into the bucket.

“There’s brussel sprouts glitter!” Ben continued unperturbed by his co-star’s behaviour.

“I was just about to try it!” Charlotte exclaimed but Kate continued to whine: “You shouldn’t have stuffing flavoured ice-cream!”

“I don’t like that, and I eat anything!” Kate added but Ben was adamant she didn’t give it her full effort: “You just had a little nibble! You got to give it a – think Greg Wallace on MasterChef – get a proper mouthful.”

Entertainment and Showbiz Editor Richard Arnold who was sitting next to Kate came into view and interjected: “You’ve got to go all the way down and get the flavours, it works.”

“Oh no, I’m instantly regretting it,” Kate said. “You’re getting the cranberry in there! No it’s not nice is it?”

While the most of the panel agreed with Kate, Ben said: “You look at it and your expectations are it is really sweet of course, but it’s actually quite savoury. What about the brussel glitter.”

“I have to say, they look great!” Richard commented, but Charlotte wasn’t convinced: “But listen, unless you’re a fan of blitzing up your Christmas dinner and serving it cold, that’s not going to work.”

Those watching at home saw Ben continue eating it: “I have to say, I’m loving this. I’m absolutely loving it! If only I could do it through a straw!”

Taking to Twitter, many commented on the hilarious moment, but some were annoyed by the discussion of Christmas so early on into the year.

One said: “Oh come on. Really! Stick this Christmas rubbish back in a box till after Bonfire week.”

“@GMB Kate throwing up in the bucket, Charlotte looking confused, Ben just being Ben, Richard going for more. This is the GMB Christmas works do isn’t it?”

Good Morning Britain airs weekday mornings at 6am on ITV.

Bucket List: Boating Through Lily Pads the Size of a Man https://briefnews.eu/bucket-list-boating-through-lily-pads-the-size-of-a-man/ https://briefnews.eu/bucket-list-boating-through-lily-pads-the-size-of-a-man/#respond Thu, 28 Jun 2018 07:28:47 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/bucket-list-boating-through-lily-pads-the-size-of-a-man/ Believe it or not, you can go from the heart of a sprawling South American metropolis of more than two and a half million people to a dusty fishing village in less time than your Big Apple or Silicon Valley commute. Such is the 45-minute drive from greater Asunción — the under-appreciated and crumbling capital of Paraguay— to a marvel of nature that recently re-emerged in the otherwise quiet neighborhood of Piquete Cué in the city of Limpio.

Rent a car, drive north and drive defensively — the Asuncións don’t mess around. Once you’re out, the air cools about 10 degrees from the 90-degree Fahrenheit swelter of the city, even in the autumn months. Bodegas and cobblestone streets greet you as you head north to Limpio, down Highway 3. Follow Av San José to where it ends on the water’s edge of the Paraguay River and, broken Spanish or not, start asking around for the yacara yrupe, the local Spanish word for what scientists call Victoria cruziana — giant lily pads that can grow as wide as six feet.

img 8996

For the last decade, these massive water lilies were thought to be extinct from river dredging and over-picking by locals who brew them in a tea to stave off asthma. The floating bowls of verdant green leaves are surprisingly sturdy as they wobble in the water. Their appeal is part childlike curiosity — in fact, small kids can walk on them — and artistic marvel, as light sifts through their translucent edges. Boating through them is a trip through nature’s living mosaic, each lily pad with its own cuts and edges, patterns that no basket-weaver could mimic.

While still floating down the river, take in the sights of a country relatively unspoiled.

There are few truly wild places left, where nature can come and go mysteriously (local scientists don’t know the cause of the lily pads’ re-emergence). Paraguay offers such transitory marvels to travelers willing to shed their comforts. “This is the Wild West,” muses Tony Crawford, a retired California firefighter who recently built a vacation home in Paraguay.

It’s not difficult to find a fisherman willing to pop you into their boat for a fee (my recommendation: Ask for Justino Gomez or Pablo Lucerna). The hourlong round trip costs anywhere between 15,000 and 55,00 Guarani (roughly $ 2.70 to $ 9.88) per person, depending on the number in your party and your haggling prowess. If possible, go in the early months, between January and March. Otherwise you may be stuck peering from the outskirts of the lily pad reefs — the waterways will then have become impassable with overgrown greenery — rather than paddling through them.

While still floating down the river, take in the sights of a country relatively unspoiled. A trade barge passes by, cattle paddle in the lows and you pass the Castillo El Peñon, a tiny castle built on a rock in the middle of the river. If you’re nice to your guide, he will take you there too. As you enjoy the gentle hum of the engine and the tranquil waters, close your eyes and picture that poor misguided traveler who booked a ticket to haughty and well-trodden Buenos Aires instead.

A month ago Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr teased Avengers Infinity War would see “heads roll.”

With the release of the Marvel epic today, it comes as no surprise that he wasn’t kidding.

The following are those major players who kicked the bucket in Avengers Infinity War.

WARNING UNBELIEVABLY MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD

Avengers Infinity War DEATHS – Every major character who kicks the bucket REVEALED

At Disney D23 last summer, : “Like every other movie, it doesn’t end well for the superheroes. Wait until you see this next one – everybody dies!”

At the interview Don Cheadle, who plays War Machine, responded, “Dude!”, before Ruffalo (now looking worried) said, “Not everybody… can we rewind that part?”

The Hulk star asked, “Am I in trouble?”, to which Cheadle replied, “A little.”

And boy Ruffalo wasn’t kidding.

LAST CHANCE TO AVOID SPOILERS FOR AVENGERS INFINITY WAR

heimdall and lokiMARVEL

Both Asgardians are dead within the first scene of Avengers Infinity War

Heimdall
Idris Elba’s Asgardian is finished off by Corvus Glaive after sending Hulk back to Earth on the Bifrost.

Loki
Having surrendered the Space Stone to Thanos to spare Thor’s life, Loki attempts to kill the mad Titan but fails.

Thanos strangles Tom Hiddleston’s god of mischief before saying: “No resurrections this time.”

Gamora
In order to obtain the Soul Stone Thanos has to sacrifice someone he truly loves, so reluctantly throws the Guardian of the Galaxy, his adopted daughter, to her death.

black order and lokiMARVEL

Yep, everyone in this still dies in Avengers Infinity War

Ebony Maw
Defeated by Iron Man and Spider-Man, as they rescue Doctor Strange, the member of the Black Order is ejected into space.

Proxima Midnight
Killed in the Battle of Wakanda

Cull Obsidian
Killed in the Battle of Wakanda

Corvus Glaive
Killed in the Battle of Wakanda

vision looking worriedMARVEL

Poor old Vision dies TWICE in Avengers Infinity War

Vision
Technically he dies twice. In order to stop Thanos obtaining the Mind Stone he asks Scarlet Witch to destroy it, which in the process kills him.

However Thanos uses the Time Stone to bring him back to life, before plucking it out of his forehead, killing him instantly.

HAVING OBTAINED ALL SIX INFINITY STONES, THANOS CLICKS HIS FINGERS AND HALF THE UNIVERSE TURNS TO ASH INCLUDING:

Bucky, Scarlet Witch, Star-Lord, Drax, Mantis, Groot, Falcon, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Maria Hill, Nick Fury.

But what about THESE other characters? Did they survive Thanos’ half the universe genocide?

thanos with infinity gauntletMARVEL

Thanos obtains all the Infinity Stone, clicks his fingers and then bye bye half the Avengers

Wong
After Ebony Maw captures Doctor Strange, Iron Man and Spider-Man, Wong tells Bruce Banner he will stay behind to protect the New York Sanctum Sanctorum and that’s the last we see of him in Avenger Infinity War.

Presumably he did survive, as with Doctor Strange gone he’ll be of crucial help in Avengers 4 – especially in terms of the multi-verse.

The Collector
Benicio Del Toro’s Taneleer Tivan appears in Avengers Infinity War, being tortured by Thanos for the whereabouts of the Reality Stone.

However it’s soon revealed this is Thanos using that very stone to create a false reality.

So The Collector was never there, but presumably he was murdered when the Mad Titan arrived on Knowhere since its all in ruins.

Shuri
Black Panther’s genius sister attempted to safely remove the Mind Stone from Vision’s head, but when Thanos clicked his fingers she wasn’t shown surviving or dying.

Again like Wong, her knowledge would serve well in the Avengers 4 fight back.

Avengers Infinity War is out now, Avengers 4 will release on April 26, 2018 in UK cinemas.

These dreamy islands in the Seychelles should be on your bucket list, says JANE MEMMLER https://briefnews.eu/these-dreamy-islands-in-the-seychelles-should-be-on-your-bucket-list-says-jane-memmler/ https://briefnews.eu/these-dreamy-islands-in-the-seychelles-should-be-on-your-bucket-list-says-jane-memmler/#respond Sun, 15 Apr 2018 18:22:03 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/these-dreamy-islands-in-the-seychelles-should-be-on-your-bucket-list-says-jane-memmler/

A view from the pool which overlooks the seaNC

At the resort you have your own private pool and may not even stumble across another guest

“Would you like to come to see the turtles hatching on Grand Anse beach?”

Not losing a second, I quickly threw a frock over my dripping hair and beat a watery path to the door, just as my taxi – well, electric golf cart – was screaming to a halt outside.

My driver, clearly as anxious as I to witness this rare event, pushed the boundaries of battery power careering around the winding roads that carve through the lush gardens down to the beach.

There in faint moonlight we watched, alongside the island’s sustainability manager, Anna Zora, as 121 baby Hawksbill sea turtles made the dash of their lives down to the safety of the sea, beyond reach of predator crabs darting furiously over the sand.

Félicité is one of 115 islands that make up the paradise archipelago that is the Seychelles and Grand Anse is just one of the protected beaches where turtles feel so comfortable that, at last count, 51 nests have been laid.

Conservation is taken seriously here and the intention of protecting and reintroducing the island’s endemic species, both animal and flora, are primary objectives for the government and the managers of Félicité Island, hotel operator Six Senses.

Zil Payson is the island’s only resort, occupying a third of this lush one-mile-square granitic plot while the other two thirds is covered with vegetation, some of which has invaded Félicité, according to island ecologist, Steve Hill.

His mammoth task is to restore the island’s indigenous botanic species once he’s managed to raise the $ 2.5 million needed for this worthy project.

Getting to the Seychelles has just become so much easier with British Airways’ new twice-weekly direct route from Heathrow.

In just under 10 hours we touched down on Mahé, where we picked up our helicopter transfer, (as you do) for the 50-minute flight to Félicité.

Swooping low over dozens of rocky outcrops edged by talcum powder beaches lapped by luminous water, is like flying over a tropical film set – each island having been styled with prerequisite swaying palms, granite boulders and bordered by white fringes of foam caressing the shoreline.

Photograph of the brilliantly clear blue seaNC

Félicité is just one of the protected beaches where turtles feel comfortable to hatch nests

We do, indeed, feel like movie stars as we land on the island’s helipad at the edge of the resort and are presented with cool scented towels and fresh tropical juice.

I survey stupendous surroundings, neat lawns and a beach adorned with lanterns in front of an elegant open-air restaurant and bar where hammock- style seats sway in the breeze under the eaves.

Acting as a border between the lawn and the sea is a long, inviting pool with a wide deck.

What strike me most however are the graduating shades of the water, deep turquoise to jade green and lapis lazuli, quite simply, out of this world.

The feel is that of a relaxed beach house with young staff, eager to please, in bright polo shirts and khaki shorts effortlessly delivering five-star service – whether it be carrying a kayak to the water or serving ice cold beers on the beach.

Just off the island lies a coral nursery which you can snorkel over.

An ingenious series of ropes suspended underwater holds 1,800 fragments of coral that survived the El Nino, which devastated 95 per cent of the reef.

They are entwined in its strands and grow in their own little hammocks.

It is maintained by two freedivers who clean the ropes with toothbrushes and small knives each day.

After 12 months, it will be transplanted in a nearby protected area.

A woman doing yoga next to a poolNC

An 130-year-old turtle, called Theo, lives on the island

Beyond Félicité’s impressive eco-creditionals, holidaying here couldn’t be more relaxed.

Shoes are redundant as is anything vaguely resembling formality.

It’s a bikini/ kaftan/shorts kind of place.

There are no cars, only golf buggies to take you wherever you want to go and they seem to appear just as you need one, whether you’re on the beach or at your villa.

If you’re strong of calf you can tackle by bicycle some of the steep roads which carve through the ferns and palms up to the gigantic granite boulders crowning the island, dodging the occasional chicken.

Alternatively, there’s a gym enclosed in a glass box overlooking the uninhabited Big Sister and Little Sister islands and yoga is taken in a pavilion reached via a rope swing bridge.

One memorable night, we watched the sunset from the clifftop, sipping champagne sitting on large white beanbags while bats with giant wingspans swooped overhead – an experience that will be hard to beat.

I’m rather ashamed to say it doesn’t take long to become accustomed to the exclusivity of a one-resort island.

And there’s nothing snobby or stuffy about Six Senses.

Whatever your bank balance, the welcome is the same, the vibe laid-back.

The 30 secluded villas, all sea facing, are designed to strict Six Senses specifications: glass that doesn’t allow in heat, low wattage bulbs, stone floors, sustainable locally made toiletries – although I doubt the Japanese-style loos with heated seats and water jets would pass – and the double-seated wooden swing in the bathroom was rather baffling.

Dark wood beds swathed in mosquito nets and Mediterranean-blue soft furnishings offer a five-star treehouse vibe.

A minibar with freshly made coconut water among wines and champagne, and complimentary coconut balls and coconut crisps were so addictive, I had to call my butler to have them removed.

Outside is your sublime private pool, dining table and sunloungers overlooking the sea.

I begin to appreciate why I barely saw another guest.

From here I spotted designer Diane von Fürstenberg and her billionaire husband, Barry Diller on their superyacht.

Lunch on the beach comes in the form of bento boxes with salads and fresh fruit, laid out on striped rugs under leaning palms while dinner is an exploration of superb Creole cuisine when one can feast on grilled lobster and tuna with prawn and mango salads in the open-air Ocean Kitchen or on the sand at the Boulodrome.

Two of the islands’ original A-frame bungalows are still in use as a kids’ club and day bungalow and were where well-travelled ex-PM Tony Blair once stayed, as did Richard Branson, prior to the Six Senses acquisition.

We become nature buffs during a walk with Steve to the Vallée de Mai (palm forest).

Two people sitting on bean bag overlooking the seaNC

You can enjoy stunning views and the sunset up on the cliff, overlooking the sea

We city slickers clumsily clamber over rocks, through curtains of banyan tree roots, past towering pines and through the thick takamaka and Phoenicophorium palm trees, whose leaves are used in roofs.

We dodge spiders, frozen in elaborate webs as big as cinema screens.

When asked about the possibility of introducing Mediterranean bougainvillea, Steve replies, “Not on my watch!”

We take pictures and smirk at the giant nut of the female coco-de-mer palm (resembling a woman’s bottom) and that of the male, complete with a catkin – a phallus-shaped tube studded with yellow flowers.

It’s no wonder it’s an endangered species.

Where Félicité is all about the fauna, Frégate Island Private, an hour away by boat, is all about the Giant Aldabra tortoises – 3,500 of them in fact.

Equally minuscule, Frégate is infinitely wilder than Félicité.

Two people kayaking in the seaNC

Jane explored the islands by kayak

The jungle is dense, the birdlife prolific and of course the tortoises really do have the run of the place.

One can see why it’s known as Castaway Island.

A graveyard sits behind the tiny marina which dates back to the 1700s when the island was covered in plantations, and beyond is a pretty open-fronted church with icons made of shells and stained glass windows depicting the isle’s natural resources.

It’s also markedly lush with palms so thick and so perfect, leaning towards the shore, you have to pinch yourself that it’s all real.

It was here I met Theo.

At around 130 years old and utterly charming, he likes nothing better than having his neck stroked.

The tortoises are particularly partial to the open-air spa at the top of the island where they wander around the outdoor pool and enjoy any free bananas.

Frégate is a place of legends.

It is thought that pirate La Buse, who stole gold from a ship bound for the Vatican, brought the treasure to Frégate.

As late as the 1970s some of the loot was still being unearthed and is rumoured now to be in Mauritius.

We hear this captivating tale from Wayne Kafcsak, the island’s managing director, during our Pirate Ruin trail walk.

Remnants of walls and wells indicate that there were fortified dwellings here long ago.

These days guests stay in more salubrious surroundings, and in complete privacy and seclusion if they want.

Sixteen Dutch-colonial style villas – dark wood, huge pools and vast decks – mean many stay put.

They’re as big as small houses with dining areas, enormous lounges, massive bedrooms.

Each property comes with a golf buggy offering hours of fun driving around the island behaving as if it’s your own.

Beyond the beaches the dense forest, thick with indigenous species such as takamaka trees, Wright’s gardenia and tortoises, is alarmingly reminiscent of Jurassic Park.

I half expected a dinosaur to come bounding down the grassy slopes.

  • The superintendent said it’s meant to be a “last-ditch response to an armed intruder.”
  • Schools have been floating various school-safety measures in the wake of last month’s high-school shooting in Florida.

As school districts across the country debate the merits of arming teachers or installing metal detectors to prevent active shooters, one Pennsylvania district has apparently equipped each of its classrooms with five-gallon buckets of river stones, instead.

Blue Mountain School District superintendent David Helsel testified before the state’s House Education Committee on March 15 and informed lawmakers of his district’s solution to active shooters.

Shocking moment a woman gives birth in the SEA – and the placenta is carried in a bucket https://briefnews.eu/shocking-moment-a-woman-gives-birth-in-the-sea-and-the-placenta-is-carried-in-a-bucket/ https://briefnews.eu/shocking-moment-a-woman-gives-birth-in-the-sea-and-the-placenta-is-carried-in-a-bucket/#respond Tue, 13 Mar 2018 14:42:30 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/shocking-moment-a-woman-gives-birth-in-the-sea-and-the-placenta-is-carried-in-a-bucket/

A woman has given birth in the Red Sea in Egypt and the photos and video gone viral.

The town of Dahab by the red sea has been the spot where a woman had her baby.

The Russian woman was filmed from a balcony and the amazing moment was shared on social media.

An older man and younger man, thought to be her partner, carried the baby out of the sea, and the placenta in a bucket.

The location is north of Sharm el-Sheikh, is a popular tourist spot.

The woman then appeared from the sea in her bikini smiling and wearing goggles.

The birth may or may not have been planned, but the bucket was on hand to catch the placenta.

Reports have claimed the older man may be a doctor, on hand to help, but this is not confirmed.

Everyone on hand seemed happy and healthy. According to Baby Centre there are legends of South Pacific islanders giving birth in shallow sea water.

In Guyana in South America there is a special river where women go to give birth.

In 2015 a woman who appeared in a Channel 4 documentary Extraordinary Births wanted to give birth in the sea with dolphins as a midwife.

There are not many animals who have played this important role in birth.

There is currently no update as to whether any sea life played a role in the birth.

Another woman gave birth dramatically in a hospital corridor after arriving at hospital too late to make it to a bed, and the shocking moment of the birth was caught on camera.

Jesica Hogan, from Kansas, USA, welcomed baby Max in July last year and the incredible birth story has gone viral thanks to its unusual nature.

The birth occurred at the Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas, and was captured by the Hogan’s birth photographers, Little Leapling Photography.
