A dashboard camera caught a Utah Highway Patrol officer go airborne after he was struck from behind by a sliding vehicle on a snowy highway.

Sergeant Cade Brenchley was responding to multiple “slide-offs” in Sardine Canyon on Sunday, according to police, when he was struck by an out of control car that veered off the snow-covered highway.

The distressing footage shows Brenchley as he makes his way to help a vehicle that slid off the road, when an out-of-control second car strikes him from behind. The impact of the crash (at about 1:15 in the video below) sent the officer flying in the air before he came crashing down on the vehicle he was walking towards.

Brenchley was transported to Logan Regional Hospital, where he was treated for broken ribs and a broken scapula.

“It’s miraculous, though, that this is all I have, considering what we saw [on the video],” Brenchley said during a news conference at the hospital, where he is still recovering.

“When I watched the video, I had no idea that it was that hard,” he said. “And yeah, I flew.”

The Utah Department of Public Safety released the footage on Tuesday as a warning to drivers to “slow down and move over” when driving in treacherous weather. The driver of the vehicle, a college-aged woman, has apologized and visited Brenchley at the hospital, who said she’s “not to be vilified.”

“She did make a mistake, and I think she’s learned from it,” he said.

And the latest research from the teeth whitening brand White Glo reveals how the dreaded fear of having bad breath haunts over 21 million Brits, with 20 per cent relying on mints and chewing gum to mask post morning coffee breath.

However, the study also found that less than half of adults in the UK (48 per cent) are giving their teeth the recommended twice daily brush.

While common food and drink culprits are often to blame, it is evident that British dental hygiene is causing unnecessary daily worries for a third of the population (32 per cent), says the report.

James Buchannan, White Glo’s dental expert said: “While trapped food particles can contribute to bad breath, the most common cause is the build-up of plaque on teeth.

The research clearly shows not enough people are keeping up the required oral health routines to avoid bad breath.

Brushing your teeth twice a day should be the first step to reduce the worry of bad breath, but there are a few other things you can do to keep your mind at ease throughout the day.”

Firstly, start the day with a glass of water to wash away bad bacteria and reduce dry mouth, which causes bad breath. Staying hydrated throughout the day will keep bad breath under control. Follow a glass of water with a high fibre breakfast.

Skipping the first meal of the day means saliva isn’t produced, causing the mouth to dry out.

Choose high fibre foods such as fruit to increase saliva production. Add yoghurt to further neutralise bacteria and counteract bad odours. 

The next recommendation is to opt for a morning mouthwash without alcohol, as alcohol significantly dries the mouth out.

Snacking on celery sticks, carrots and apples also increase saliva, which reduces dry mouth and washes away odour causing particles.

After dinner mints are a popular way to expel bad breath, however, the bacteria in the mouth uses sugar to make acid.

The acid wears teeth down and leads to bad breath, so it’s best to stick to a sugar-free gum instead. Using a soft bristle toothbrush will also prevent teeth from being worn down. Hard toothbrushes tend to damage the enamel, which can eventually lead to tooth decay and bad breath.

A shocking video has emerged showing cleaners at luxury hotels in China using the toilet brush to clean the bathroom, including the cups and glasses.

The report by Chinese website Pear Video used an undercover journalist to show the staff at Shangri-La, Kempinski and Sheraton hotels in Harbin, China.

They can be seen using the toilet brush and bath towels to clean the entire room.

It makes for a disgusting watch.

In the video, the toilet brush can be seen to clean the toilet before cleaning the sink and the glasses.

The glasses can also be seen to be dried with the same rag that is washed in the toilet and bin.

Many of the bath towels are also used to clean the floor.

The validity of the video was confirmed by city authorities in China who have launched an investigation.

Some of the hotels cost hundreds of pounds a night, with Kempinski costing as much as £370 per night.

Harbin Shangri-La told the South China Morning Post in a statement: “If what was shown in the video was proved to be true, it would be a serious violation of our hygiene standards and it would not be acceptable.

“At the same time, we will also cooperate with local government to properly implement all hygiene measures.”

Kempinski Harbin said in a post on Chinese social media site Sina Weibo: 

“We feel sorry to learn about the substandard conditions found at our hotel.

“We have been working on providing our guests a friendly and safe environment with strict policies. 

“We will cooperate with the investigation and strengthen measures to avoid similar problems.”

Shangri-La, Kempinski and Sheraton have been contacted by Express.co.uk for comment.

The problem can be difficult to fix, with many hotel cleaners needing to cover lots of rooms on a low-wage.

Wu Ben, an associate professor of hotel management at Shanghai’s Fudan University, told Caixin magazine: “Without the proper detection equipment, one is unlikely to notice dirty bedding and poorly cleaned toilet seats.”

Analysis of mouth bacteria showed that some types that lead to common gum problems were associated with higher risk of oesophageal cancer.

Higher levels of one type of bacteria, which is linked to periodontal disease, was associated with a 21 per cent increased risk of cancer, the study found.

Oesophageal cancer is the eighth most common version of the condition. It is also the sixth leading cause of cancer death worldwide, researchers said.

But because the disease is often not discovered until it has reached an advanced stage, five-year survival rates range from about 15 to 25 per cent worldwide.

Lead researcher Jiyoung Ahn of New York University, said: “Oesophageal cancer is a highly fatal cancer and there is an urgent need for new avenues of prevention, risk stratification, and early detection.”

Previous research has shown that periodontal disease caused by certain bacteria has been associated with several types of cancer, including oral and head and neck cancers.

The study examined whether these were associated with subsequent risk of oesophageal adenocarcinoma or oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

The researchers collected oral wash samples from 122,000 participants in two large health studies. Over 10 years of follow-up, 106 participants developed oesophageal cancer.

Prof Ahn said the study confirms good oral health, including regular brushing and dental visits, is an important way to guard against cancer and associated health conditions.

However, researchers did not have complete information on the participants’ oral health.

This meant they could not determine whether the presence of pathogens was enough to affect oesophageal cancer risk, or whether full-blown periodontal disease was the risk factor.

The study was published in Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.
