Right?? https://briefnews.eu/manifest-wedding-photo-album-here-comes-the-bride-right/ https://briefnews.eu/manifest-wedding-photo-album-here-comes-the-bride-right/#respond Wed, 25 Mar 2020 14:55:21 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/manifest-wedding-photo-album-here-comes-the-bride-right/ After so much Sturm und Drang, NBC’s Manifest is poised to host a joyous celebration, as glimpsed in these first photos from Season 2’s penultimate hour.

Manifest 2x12 WeddingWhen last we tuned into the supernatural-tinged family drama, Zeke — on the heels of a most unexpected yet closure-delivering reunion with his estranged father — reasserted to Michaela that he has no intention of resuming treatment by Saanvi, to maybe stave off his Death Date. “Pretty much my entire life has been about regret and sadness. But I don’t want to end it like that,” he said. “I want to go out on my terms, with the love of my life, making one more memory I can take with me.” And on that note, he whipped out a shiny ring. “Will you marry me, Michaela?” he asked. After a moment of shock, Mick replied, “Yes! Yes, I will.”

In the next episode, titled “Call Sign” and airing Monday, March 30 at 10/9c, Ben & Co. transform the Stone household into an ersatz wedding venue. Among the exclusive photos obtained by TVLine, we see Michaela take in her brother’s handiwork, alongside a beaming Grace. Below, we spy a moment between Zeke and Jared — will Mick’s previous fiance offer his blessing? And in the photo above right, the groom awaits his bride.

But will the wedding go off without a hitch?

After all, elsewhere in the episode, Jared and Drea will attempt to extract a confession from Jace, Pete and Kory, the trio of meth dealers we just met who would do anything to exact revenge on Michaela. Also, Saanvi will enlist help in protecting herself from the until-recently dormant Major.

Looking ahead to Manifest‘s second season finale (airing April 6), showrunner Jeff Rake told TVLine, “The strength of Ben and Grace’s marriage and partnership will be tested … more than it has been since we first met them. As will the friendship between brother and sister Ben and Michaela. The s–t is going to hit the fan.”

Begum was one of three schoolgirls who left east London in 2015 to join the terrorist organisation.

During a recent interview with The Times, Begum, who is now 19-years-old and nine-months pregnant, revealed how she wants to return home to the UK for the sake of baby fearing it could die in the camp.

Wallace told Shepherd and Garraway about the procedure the UK government has when a request of this kind is made.

“I can’t comment on this case exactly for legal reasons,” Wallace began and then added: “[But] fundamentally it depends on her status as British citizen, whether or not she has a passport.

“[Nevertheless] she is eligible for consulate support, if she makes it to a country where there is that on offer. We as the UK are obliged that they get that support [but] we are not going to put other people at risk to go and find [her].

“If she is a British citizen, she has rights. But don’t be surprised by what reception you have when you get back. when it comes to investigation and law enforcement.

“In other cases where people have been detained and brought back under control, back to the UK, they can expect to be investigated, interviewed and prosecuted if evidence against them is shown.

“It can take a long time, but it is put to the likes of the people to make their way to the country where we provide consulate support.”

Begum is due to give birth to her third child soon, and has said she wanted the child to come to the UK, following the death of her first two children.

Wallace was clear about the approach the government would have in such situation: “I feel sympathy for children born out there, they didn’t have a choice, it wasn’t their fault, some of them have been subjected to horrendous things.

“We have to put in place special measures if they [children] come back, the adults have to face some of their responsibilities as well.

“We will look after the children as the UK government, we will do what we can. [But] if the parents have been complicit in terrorism, we will prosecute them.”

Begum had previously told The Times she had “no regrets” in travelling to Syria.

Discussing this remark, Wallace spoke about the wider impact her choice has had on people in the UK.

He said: “I see what’s left behind when people leave their families secretly. Her family, which I’m guessing are law-abiding people, would have wondered where they daughter went. People should at least regret the shame they have brought on their families and communities.

“The irony is, ISIS hates Britain, people [like Begum] have gone out to fight against Britain, when they have had enough they want to come back to the country they’ve abandoned. The irony isn’t lost on the country.”

While Begum case has caught the attention of the media and public, she is one of 850 people who have fled the UK for ISIS.

Wallace commented on the matter and said: “It’s a big problem for us all in Britain and the US. The counter terrorism act has a new offence in it, it has places in the world we can identify that if you go there without an excuse, you can be prosecuted and face 10 years in prison.”

The decision as to whether or not she can return to the UK falls into the hands of Home Secretary Sajid Javid.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.

China to crack down on extravagant weddings & rising ‘bride prices’ https://briefnews.eu/china-to-crack-down-on-extravagant-weddings-rising-bride-prices/ https://briefnews.eu/china-to-crack-down-on-extravagant-weddings-rising-bride-prices/#respond Sun, 09 Dec 2018 14:21:24 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/china-to-crack-down-on-extravagant-weddings-rising-bride-prices/

Plans for a Chinese bride’s dream wedding, as marvelous as her groom can afford, may have to be put on hold. Authorities say that extravagant and pricey ceremonies do not fall in line with national moral values.

The government is concerned about rising ‘bride prices’ in particular – a goodwill gesture between the two families, when the groom’s family pays a dowry to their future relatives. Another issue is that couples invite celebrities and influential people to their big day to show off in front of guests.

To battle such practices China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs convened a special meeting in Jinan, Shandong province, last week, where officials from various parts of the country ruled that marriage etiquette needs to be reformed.

Instead of lavish parties, authorities want to encourage people to celebrate the event in a more traditional and thrifty way. Moreover, the weddings should “better reflect” the country’s values and goals, and implement the leader’s political ideology, known as the “Xi Jinping Thought.”

Marriages can be a great financial burden and sometimes the groom’s family can land themselves in serious debt. Prices reportedly start from 100,000 yuan (around $ 14,500), with some costing vastly more. Last year, an 18-year-old girl in China’s eastern province of Fujian received 2.88 million yuan ($ 400,000) as a gift for her engagement, according to CGTN.

However, initiatives targeting centuries-long traditions have already sparked a public backlash. An earlier move targeting traditional burials and promoting cremation as the only method of disposal of bodies enraged locals in Jiangxi province in July. People were even trying to stop the ordered destruction and seizure of coffins by climbing inside of them, but were forcefully pulled out.

Bride abandoned by groom on wedding day as she ‘spends too much time on WhatsApp’ https://briefnews.eu/bride-abandoned-by-groom-on-wedding-day-as-she-spends-too-much-time-on-whatsapp/ https://briefnews.eu/bride-abandoned-by-groom-on-wedding-day-as-she-spends-too-much-time-on-whatsapp/#respond Mon, 10 Sep 2018 12:26:11 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/bride-abandoned-by-groom-on-wedding-day-as-she-spends-too-much-time-on-whatsapp/

A man allegedly bailed on his own wedding because his bride-to-be spent too much time on WhatsApp and asked for a dowry of ₹65,000,000 ($ 900,000) in return for marrying her.

The bride and her family were waiting for the groom, from the city of Amroha in Uttar Pradesh state, to show up on the day of their wedding on September 5. He failed to arrive and the father of the bride sent his brother to the groom’s house to see what had happened, according to Asian news agency ANI.

It was then the man claimed the woman was “not good” because she spent too much time chatting online.

“We were waiting for the groom’s family. When they did not turn up, we went to their house. The family refused to marry my daughter, alleging that she is not good as she spends too much time on WhatsApp,” the bride’s father is quoted as saying by ANI.

When the bride’s family insisted, the groom apparently demanded a dowry of ₹65,000,000. A police complaint was filed by the bride’s father. An officer is quoted as saying that an investigation is underway and they’ll take action “accordingly.”

A few days later, on March 30, she married long-term partner Steven in a ceremony in hospital, with their seven-year-old son Kieran beside them.

Mr Keers, 35, said his wife, who worked at Durham University, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016 and endured a mastectomy followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy before going into remission in July last year.

Mr Keers, from Hartlepool, said: “She fell pregnant naturally in September and we were absolutely elated.”

But joy turned to heartache when, 24 weeks in, doctors broke the news that Tracey’s cancer had returned – and was terminal.

She had leptomeningeal carcinomatosis which causes the disease to spread to the spinal chord and the membranes surrounding the brain.

Four weeks later the brave mum suffered seizures and doctors delivered Kyla by Caesarean section on March 19. Her daughter was just 2lb when she came into the world.

Mr Keers said: “They said Tracey might not wake up from the C-section but luckily she did. Tracey was so worried that she might never get to see her daughter.”

On April 8, Tracey’s breathing started to change.

Mr Keers said: “I held Tracey in my arms with her head on my chest and she passed away peacefully. When I had to tell Kieran it was the hardest thing in the world that I have ever had to do.”

Meghan Markle: Prince Harry bride received ‘cold reception’ from THIS royal family member https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-prince-harry-bride-received-cold-reception-from-this-royal-family-member/ https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-prince-harry-bride-received-cold-reception-from-this-royal-family-member/#respond Sat, 14 Apr 2018 03:41:30 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-prince-harry-bride-received-cold-reception-from-this-royal-family-member/

Meghan Markle, 36, will marry Prince Harry, 33, in a royal wedding ceremony at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

While Queen Elizabeth II, 91, approved the wedding in an official letter, it seems not every member of the royal family is a fan of Meghan.

One particular family member gave her a “cold” reception at her first large family gathering, a source has exclusive revealed to Express.co.uk.

While Prince Philip, 96, is said to be a fan of Meghan, it is believed his second oldest son, Prince Andrew, 58, certainly isn’t.

The Duke of York is said to have displayed a noticeable dislike of Meghan compared to the rest of the royals.

“Meghan met a lot of the royal family at Sandringham House last Christmas,” the source told us.

“Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice got on fantastically well with Meghan.

“It was all fine with Prince Edward, Duke of Wessex and his family.”

This meant Prince Andrew’s negative reaction stood out from the rest.

“She had a cold reception from the Duke of York,” the source said.

The Duke of York’s ex wife Sarah Ferguson was away in Australia at the time.

Therefore, it is impossible to know how she would have reacted, said the source.

However, it has previously been said that Meghan Markle and Sarah Ferguson resemble each other.

The source also gave a little more detail about the Sandringham House family event, which the Queen attended.

“It was all formal and they had meals together downstairs before spending the evening in the saloon,” the source said.

Yesterday, Meghan Markle announced a feminist engagement ahead of the royal wedding.

Meghan, along with Harry, will make an official appearance at a reception dedicated to women’s empowerment on April 19.

The appearance will be an appropriate way to mark one month until their wedding date, given Meghan’s notable attachment to the feminist cause.

The couple will attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) Women’s Empowerment reception which will be held at the Royal Aeronautical Society in London.

It comes after Prince Harry was appointed president of the newly formed youth charity, The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust.

Meghan Markle: Prince Harry bride announces feminist date just one month before wedding https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-prince-harry-bride-announces-feminist-date-just-one-month-before-wedding/ https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-prince-harry-bride-announces-feminist-date-just-one-month-before-wedding/#respond Thu, 12 Apr 2018 22:50:49 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-prince-harry-bride-announces-feminist-date-just-one-month-before-wedding/

Meghan Markle, 36, is set to marry Prince Harry, 33, on May 19 in a royal wedding ceremony– and the couple have announced a very special feminist engagement ahead of their upcoming nuptials.

Plans for the offical engagement were announced this evening on the official Kensington Palace Twitter account.

It comes after Prince Harry was appointed president of the newly formed youth charity, The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust.

The official announcement read: “On Thursday 19th April, The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry will attend the CHOGM Formal Opening and CHOGM State Dinner at Buckingham Palace.

“Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle will also attend a CHOGM Women’s Empowerment reception at the Royal Aeronautical Society.”

LA born actress Meghan has previously been out-spoken about her strong feminist beliefs.

She previously made a feminist speech at the United Nations’ International Women’s Day conference in 2015.

She said: “Women make up more than half of the world’s population and potential.

“So it is neither just nor practical for their voices, for our voices, to go unheard at the highest levels of decision making.”

The announcement also detailed a number of other engagements the couple would be attending ahead of Meghan and Harry’s wedding day.

These included a reception with delegates from the Commonwealth Youth Forum at the QEII on 18 April, which Harry and Meghan will be attending.

Prince Harry will also be taking part in a roundtable discussion of the Commonwealth Youth Forum with youth representatives on 16 April.

Earlier today, it was reported that there is Meghan Markle royal wedding family drama ahead of the nuptials.

The half sister to Meghan Markle has blasted her for invited thousands of people she has never met to her nuptials.

Samantha Grant claimed the actress does not “respect” her family after hearing the news.

She wrote on Wednesday morning on Twitter: “The Markle family is looking forward to our wedding invites. No-one has one yet.

“Still waiting. I hope London is wheelchair friendly. Excited!”. She then changed her profile picture on Twitter to images of herself and Meghan together.

Disney Eyeing Reboots of ‘Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,’ ‘Father of the Bride’ and ‘The Parent Trap’ https://briefnews.eu/disney-eyeing-reboots-of-honey-i-shrunk-the-kids-father-of-the-bride-and-the-parent-trap/ https://briefnews.eu/disney-eyeing-reboots-of-honey-i-shrunk-the-kids-father-of-the-bride-and-the-parent-trap/#respond Thu, 22 Feb 2018 09:08:36 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/disney-eyeing-reboots-of-honey-i-shrunk-the-kids-father-of-the-bride-and-the-parent-trap/ Honey I Shrunk the Kids Remake

Disney already has all hands on deck for live-action remakes of their classic animated movies. We’ve already seen the likes of Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast and The Jungle Book hit theaters and Aladdin, Dumbo, Mulan, Pinocchio, and The Lion King are on the way. But it sounds like Disney is running out of animated movies they want to remake, because now they’re turning their attention to their live-action catalog for remake opportunities.

Buried in the recent news of Disney planning their Muppets reboot for their streaming service, three other projects are mentioned as being in development for the forthcoming subscription service…and they’re all reboots. Apparently, Disney is looking at potentially rebooting (the fancy word for remaking) Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Father of the Bride and The Parent Trap.

The Hollywood Reporter off-handedly mentions the possibility of these reboots in their Muppets report when discussing the new Disney streaming service expected to launch in the fall of 2019. The report says:

“The Disney brand extension is expected to make a heavy push into film with an eye on Disney’s robust library of family titles. The Parent Trap (1998), Father of the Bride (1991) and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989) are among the first projects on the table for potential film reboots, sources say.”

It should be noted that this only says Disney is looking at these movies for “potential film reboots.” That doesn’t mean they’re in active development or anything like that, but Disney is probably trying to figure out if there is interest in these projects and whether or not they can make them work. So let’s take a look at each of these titles individually.

The Parent Trap Remake

The Parent Trap

The report mentions the 1998 version of The Parent Trap starring young Lindsey Lohan (above) as the title being ripe for a reboot. But that title itself is a remake of Disney’s own 1961 film of the same name with the same premise. The story followed two identical twin sisters who are separated at birth when their parents get divorced, each growing up without knowing the other exists. But when they happen to meet each other, they concoct a plan to reunite their parents and make them fall in love again.

The remake in 1998 with Lindsey Lohan was a favorite of children of the late 1990s, and it led to a successful relationship between Lohan and Disney that lasted several years. That brought us even more Disney nostalgia, with the Lohan remake of the body swap comedy Freaky Friday and The Love Bug sequel Herbie: Fully Loaded. But now it’s probably time for a new generation to have their own version of The Parent Trap.

Father of the Bride Remake

Father of the Bride

Here’s another example of a Disney movie (released through by Buena Vista Pictures through the Touchstone Pictures banner) that was also a remake. The original film was released in 1950 with Spencer Tracy, Elizabeth Taylor and Joan Bennett, but the remake in 1991 starred Steve Martin, Diane Keaton and Kimberly Williams-Paisley (as well as a hilarious, over-the-top supporting turn by Martin Short). Since the remake (which spawned a sequel in 1995) is now 27 years old, I suppose that’s a good enough reason to try it again. After all, the times have changed a bit, as has the dating scene, so there’s plenty for the George Banks character to be concerned about when his daughter suddenly comes home engaged.

There were rumblings of a new Father of the Bride sequel happening not too long ago that would focus on George Banks’ son (played by a young Kieran Culkin in the first two movies) getting married himself. This take focused on gay marriage, which would have been an interesting topic for a traditional, uptight character George Banks to deal with. A script was said to be written with Steve Martin on board, but the actor said himself on Twitter that wasn’t the case.

A new Father of the Bride with Steve Martin and Diane Keaton as grandparents would be something that I’d turn up for, especially as someone who loves that 1991 remake. But it would take a lot for me to get excited about a reboot with an entirely different cast.

Honey I Shrunk the Kids - Movies Leavng Netflix

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids

This 1989 action adventure has been ripe for a reboot for so long that I can’t believe Disney waited until now to make it happen. Special effects technology has improved so much since this film debuted (though those original effects are still top-notch) that this could be quite an epic backyard adventure movie.

The first film (directed by Joe Johnston) followed Rick Moranis as scientist Wayne Szalinski, who builds a machine that can shrink things. Through a series of mishapes, the machine accidentally shrinks his teenage daughter and nerdy adolescent son along with the neighbors’ teenage son and wise-ass adolescent brother. They end up swept up in the trash and left to navigate the backyard in order to get back to their house and hopefully be returned to normal size.

A sequel followed a few years later in 1992, this time seeing Szalinski accidentally enlarge his toddler son to 50 feet. Honey, I Blew Up the Kid is not quite as good as the original, but the twin boys who play the toddler Adam are so damn cute, and it does some fun things that riff on those B-movies about monsters attacking cities.

Then there was an awful straight-to-video sequel called Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves and a TV series focusing on myriad of experiments gone wrong in the Szalinski household. Those two extensions of the franchise were just plain awful, and they’re best left forgotten.

If there’s one live-action Disney movie that I’m actually excited to see get a reboot, it’s this one.

German teen ‘ISIS bride’ sentenced to 6 years in jail – reports https://briefnews.eu/german-teen-isis-bride-sentenced-to-6-years-in-jail-reports/ https://briefnews.eu/german-teen-isis-bride-sentenced-to-6-years-in-jail-reports/#respond Sun, 18 Feb 2018 22:57:41 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/german-teen-isis-bride-sentenced-to-6-years-in-jail-reports/ An Iraqi court has sentenced German teenager Linda Wenzel, dubbed a “jihadi bride”, to six years in prison for her affiliation with Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), German media has reported.

Wenzel was given a five-year sentence for being a member of IS and another year for crossing into Iraq illegally, the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper reported on Sunday, citing judicial sources. Her hearing at the Palace of Justice in Baghdad was closed off to the public due to her age, but representatives from the German embassy were present at the trial.

Originally from Pulsnitz, a town near Dresden in eastern Germany, Wenzel converted to Islam in 2016. After meeting extremists online at the age of 15, Wenzel ran away from home and made her way into Iraq through Turkey and Syria. There, she reportedly married a Chechen fighter, who was later killed.

After being captured in Mosul last year, Wenzel made headlines across the world when footage emerged that showed her terrified and in tears as she was dragged along by Iraqi troops. But the teenager was just one of many women from Europe and elsewhere who traveled to the Middle East to become jihadi brides.

Since her capture, Wenzel has expressed regret for her actions.

“I want to go home to my family,” she told reporters. “I want to get out of the war, away from the weapons, the noise.”

“I don’t know how I came up with such a dumb idea. I’ve completely ruined my life.”
