The following contains major spoilers from Snowpiercer‘s two-hour Season 2 finale.

How did TNT’s Snowpiercer possibly one-up its freshman finale, which turned two trains into one?

How about by veritably exploding one train into two — and then having the streamlined, 10-car “pirate train” double back to find stranded engineer Melanie… only to have Layton (Daveed Diggs) and Alex (Rowan Blanchard) discover she didn’t survive her elongated isolation at the research station.

Or did she?

TVLine spoke with executive producer Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios about Melanie’s fate, the train’s newest world order, Season 3’s new arrival and more.

Snowpiercer Jennifer ConnellyTVLINE | Talk about the plan to stretch out Melanie’s fate for the second half of the season. Was that about you losing Jennifer Connelly at a certain point, but you wanted to keep the character “around” a bit longer?
Basically, yes. Jennifer has been such a great partner in this and also has a very busy professional life…. [Showrunner] Graeme [Manson] knew very early on, so he and the writing team came up with this really great idea of the research station and then the “time collision” that took us to the end of the season. Having the ticking clock of “We need to make sure we have some place to be at a certain time!” is always valuable, and with a very limiting Wilford always wondering what is happening. When that creative decision came up early in the season break, it was exciting to hear. It’s always fun to have a strong emotional reaction to a creative pitch.

TVLINE | It also planted a mystery for a couple of episodes. “We saw what Melanie saw, but what will lead to that shocking moment?”
Exactly. We always talk about the show as multiple genres mashed up into one. There is character drama, of course, but it’s also a genre show, and it’s also action-adventure. We’re always trying to give the audience a little taste of all three in every episode.

TVLINE | It took Snowpiercer 30 days to circle back for Melanie. In your mind, how long did it take Layton’s “10-car pirate train” to make it back to the research station? How much longer did Melanie have to last? Was it one week, was it three…?
It wasn’t three weeks. I want to say we landed somewhere around five or six days, though I don’t remember ultimately what it was.

TVLINE | Because I was surprised she went through the rats so quickly. There seemed to be a good-sized nest of them by the thermal vent.
Ultimately, they weren’t fat. [Laughs] There’s not a lot of meat on a rat like that.

TVLINE | You did kind of leave the door open. I mean, Melanie wasn’t found dead. She could have been discovered and rescued by some group of nomads we didn’t know existed….
She could; that might be “jumping the shark” a bit based on everything we expressed thus far, but….

TVLINE | She is done for, we shouldn’t be speculating?
I don’t know if I’m going on record that she is “done for,” but I don’t know that she is alive.

TVLINE | Have viewers seen the last of Jennifer Connelly?
We are pleased that Jennifer will join us for Season 3.

Snowpiercer Season 2TVLINE | By the end of Season 1, I had no doubt that Josie (Katie McGuinness) had frozen to death after her fight with Melanie. So when she showed up in Season 2, it seemed like you had reconsidered that character’s fate.
It’s funny — we actually shot her recovery scene for Season 1. So you were going to have the Josie story answered by the end of Season 1, but instead it was a cliffhanger we put into Season 2.

TVLINE | What value did you see in keeping the character around?
We adore Katie; I always describe that character, particularly from Season 1, as sort of the emotional and moral center of the tail. No matter what plans existed, it was Katie’s performance of that character, her vulnerability and expressions of love toward all of the tail, that stood  out. She’s sort of the “mom,” and there was something about when she spoke that as extremely powerful. We thought it would be interesting to take someone who is always so sure in how they approach a situation have the “genre piece” affect her, and see what she does if there’s a bit of a “superhero” augmentation. That was the idea behind it.

TVLINE | At the very end of the finale, Ben warns Layton, Josie and Till, “We have some weather ahead.” Is weather almost a new character for Season 3?
Yes, it is definitely a new character. Climate change is something that Graeme is always discussing, and it’s such a strong topic that we all have very strong feelings about. But it’s also a difficult topic, because it can paralyze people — everyone wants to help, many are not sure what to do, but it is on everyone’s mind.

We need to keep reminding people that we have to take care of our Earth, and how fragile a moment we are in in. That’s part of it. But also, [weather brings] the idea of hope. We are organisms that are a part of something bigger, and the possibility of the Earth being able to repair itself is hopeful.

TVLINE | But does weather present a potential danger to our heroes? As things warm up, like, could tracks get flooded out…?
Very much so, yes. I don’t know that we will be doing flooding in Season 3, but there is definitely an adjustment, including to the train and how it operates — how quickly is the engine warming up? Can we be self-sufficient in this environment? It’s a really transitional moment for Snowpiercer and the pirate train, as well as with regards to what can exist out in the world.

Snowpiercer Season 2TVLINE | It sure looks like Miss Audrey (Lena Hall) legitimately fell back under Wilford’s sway….
She did, that troublemaker. Yes, she did. She was torn, because she knows she is in love with someone who is perhaps pure evil, but she cant help how she feels.

TVLINE | How worried should we be that an outwitted, already-psychotic Wilford (Sean Bean) is now in charge of a 1,000-car train, unchecked?
You should be concerned. You should be concerned. There are a couple people there to possibly rein him in — Ruth (Alison Wright) is there — but you should be concerned. An unchecked Wilford is not good. But it sure is fun to watch Sean play that! [Laughs]

TVLINE | Is Season 3 almost a bit of a chase movie, between the two trains?
There will be some chasing, but it will not be the full season. We definitely have lots of narratives happening. There’s survival, there’s [what happened to] Melanie, there’s research on the train, there’s the ultimate goal….

TVLINE | Because Layton wants to catch up to and get back their train, but Wilford surely won’t want that to happen.
They definitely have different agendas. They will never see eye to eye.

TVLINE | I suppose that fish is now off the menu for everyone….
I know! It’s kind of sad…. But wasnt that visual effect fantastic? [Visual effects supervisor Geoff Scott and visual effects producer Darren Bell] did a great job with that.

TVLINE | I need to know, was that supposed to be an actual Ferris wheel inside of the carnival car…?
We had something people sat in, yeah! But here’s the thing: We had to shoot the carnival after we had to shut down for COVID, so while it was incredible and they did a great job, it was potentially going to be on a larger scale and with more people involved.

TVLINE | And lastly, looking to Season 3: Where is the new character played by Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife) going to materialize from?
Ohhh, that will make Season 3 super-exciting — definitely a reason to tune in. It’s kind of a collision of all the things we discussed, coming together.

Elsewhere, Oprah asked: “Were you silent or silenced?” And Meghan replied: “The latter.”

The Duchess of Sussex explained her friends and family were told to give no comment to any members of the press once her relationship with Harry was made public.

She said: “It was only once we were married and everything started to really worsen that I came to understand the not only was I not being protected but that they were willing to lie to protect other members of the family.

“But they weren’t willing to tell the truth to protect me and my husband.”

Christopher Dean breaks down in tears over Lady Leshurr DOI tribute to late sister https://briefnews.eu/christopher-dean-breaks-down-in-tears-over-lady-leshurr-doi-tribute-to-late-sister/ https://briefnews.eu/christopher-dean-breaks-down-in-tears-over-lady-leshurr-doi-tribute-to-late-sister/#respond Sun, 07 Mar 2021 22:21:05 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/christopher-dean-breaks-down-in-tears-over-lady-leshurr-doi-tribute-to-late-sister/

Each of this evening’s Dancing on Ice semi-finalists took to the rink to perform a personal routine close to their hearts. Deciding to dedicate her second performance to sister Carmen following her death aged 39 after a battle with breast cancer, the grime artist bravely put on a show-stopping routine, racking up high scores from the judging panel.

However, Lady Leshurr’s second routine certainly hit home with head judge Christopher Dean who struggled to keep his composure as he praised the ITV contestant.

The routine earned Lady Leshurr and partner Brendyn a score of 37 to be combined with the perfect 40 she’d racked up from the first skate.

“It’s another huge score,” Phillip Schofield weighed in. “That took everything, didn’t it?”

“I mean, I’m just – I’m speechless,” an emotional Lady Leshurr replied before adding: “I hope I did my sister proud,

“The brother-in-law, the kids, my mum. I just had an amazing time.

“Just to spread more awareness about cancer in general, like I really think it’s good to always be able to speak about things that may be awkward.”

A round of applause erupted in the studio before Phillip and Holly Willoughby turned to the judges for their thoughts.

Head judge Christopher weighed in: “The simplicity of the skate that made it so powerful,

“And, um, just listening to everything that’s gone on -“

Christopher stopped himself midway through his feedback to Lady Leshurr as he became choked up.

Fighting through tears, he commended the Dancing on Ice star for the touching tribute and added: “I feel for you.”

John Barrowman was similarly emotional and told Lady Leshurr her sister would be “so proud” of what she’d achieved.

ITV viewers at home were similarly in tears by the performance, with one saying on Twitter: “How did Lady Leshurr even manage to get through that skate, let alone do it so well? Incredible. #dancingonice.”

A second agreed: “Lady Leshurr’s tribute was emotional. I’m sure her family is proud #DancingOnice.”

“Beautiful 2nd skate from Lady Leshurr and a wonderful tribute to your sister,” a third fan echoed.

While a fourth concurred: “I give Lady Leshurr and Brendyn 10.0 out of 10.0! This brought so much emotion out of me, and that was all I was looking for. Carmen would be proud, @LadyLeshurr. #DancingonIce.”

And a fifth added: “So much love to Lady Leshurr and her sister and all of her family.

“That is so tough to keep a big illness to yourself. Not only that Lady Leshurr losing her sister and the kids losing both parents. That is so tough to deal with.”

Sadly for Lady Leshurr, her efforts weren’t enough to land her a spot in the Dancing on Ice finale.

She lost out to Colin Jackson in the skate-off, meaning he, Sonny Jay and Faye Brookes will battle it out for the top spot next week.

Dancing on Ice returns to ITV on Sunday.

Thankfully, a preview for next week’s episode has raised hopes there could still be romance in the air at some point this season.

Episode nine, ‘Winter Chill’ sees the team still dealing with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, while Ellie Bishop (Emily Wickersham) and Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) share a tender embrace in the new footage.

Meanwhile, Mark Harmon’s Gibbs confirms another case is afoot, which will hopefully take his mind off of Sloane’s recent departure.

Mom Recap: Bonnie Breaks Down in Christy’s Bedroom — But Why? https://briefnews.eu/mom-recap-bonnie-breaks-down-in-christys-bedroom-but-why/ https://briefnews.eu/mom-recap-bonnie-breaks-down-in-christys-bedroom-but-why/#respond Fri, 19 Feb 2021 03:21:29 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/mom-recap-bonnie-breaks-down-in-christys-bedroom-but-why/

Bonnie finally had a good cry about missing Christy this Thursday on Mom — the first episode since CBS announced the long-running comedy would end this season.

Throughout the episode, Bonnie was spiraling, trying to figure out how best to utilize the bedroom that previously belonged to her daughter. An arts-and-crafts room for papier-mâché? Nah. A carpentry studio to repurpose old driftwood? That wouldn’t work either.

“The minute I decide what I’m going to be doing in that room, I’m in a box,” Bonnie told Trevor. But the reason she was so reluctant to choose a course of action was tied to room itself, her therapist suggested. “Perhaps someone you care about deeply used to live in it,” he said. “You don’t want to change the room because as long as it stays the same, then you can still believe that Christy might be coming back to it. Altering it means you might have to accept the fact that she might be gone for good.”

Before their session ended, Trevor gave Bonnie a homework assignment: “Before you worry about what’s going into the room, how about you worry about packing up what’s going out?” And so, Bonnie returned home to pack up Christy’s room. She headed upstairs with Tammy and opened Christy’s closet, revealing all of Christy’s tiny hoodies. (“You’d think I have a 10-year-old son!” she quipped.) When Tammy suggested that Christy left those behind for future visits, Bonnie scoffed. “Oh, like that’s going to happen!” she said. “She used to call me every day. Now I’m lucky if she calls me once a week.”

As the conversation continued, we learned that Christy has gone on two dates with a man named Bennett. The dates went well enough to tell Wendy and Tammy (and Adam, we’d soon find out), but not her own mother.

Mom Season 8, Episode 8By the time Adam returned home, Bonnie was throwing Christy’s belongings out the window. Once Tammy helped him upstairs, he found his wife on the floor of Christy’s closet, crying.

“My daughter abandoned me,” she said. “I haven’t wanted to face it, but it’s true… The reason I couldn’t figure out what to do with this room is because I didn’t want to accept that Christy’s not coming back. I guess I was just was hoping she’d realize she wasn’t cut out for the winter and come home, but she’s got a good coat. She’s thriving without me.”

That’s when Adam interjected, and suggested that Christy was thriving because of Bonnie. “Christy’s not gone forever, and you’ve been so strong,” he said. “I’m not surprised it’s hitting you… Let me be strong tonight and you just let it out.”

Elsewhere in the episode:

* Just a few weeks after getting dumped by police-officer boyfriend Andy, Jill has found a potential new match in Trevor. Bonnie told Jill that her therapist was off limits, but Jill paid Trevor a visit at the end of the episode to give him a handmade tissue-box cover she crafted for his office.

* Tammy attended her first Al-Anon meeting with Adam to work through her issues with Marjorie. The bickering roommates made up by episode’s end.

Were you happy to see Bonnie feel her feelings about Christy’s absence? And are you hoping now more than ever that we’ll see Anna Faris’ character return — with new boyfriend Bennett — in the series finale?

David Boreanaz Breaks Silence, Offers Charisma Carpenter His ‘Support’ in Wake of Joss Whedon Allegations https://briefnews.eu/david-boreanaz-breaks-silence-offers-charisma-carpenter-his-support-in-wake-of-joss-whedon-allegations/ https://briefnews.eu/david-boreanaz-breaks-silence-offers-charisma-carpenter-his-support-in-wake-of-joss-whedon-allegations/#respond Mon, 15 Feb 2021 18:45:46 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/david-boreanaz-breaks-silence-offers-charisma-carpenter-his-support-in-wake-of-joss-whedon-allegations/

David Boreanaz has offered a pledge of public support to Charisma Carpenter, just days after his former costar detailed the “toxic” and “hostile” abuse she allegedly suffered under Buffyverse auteur Joss Whedon.

Though Carpenter — who played Cordelia Chase on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spinoff Angel — has alluded to her experiences with Whedon in the past, on Feb. 10 the actress posted an 830-word missive on social media, elaborating on her claims and recalling Whedon’s “history of being casually cruel,” his creation of “hostile and toxic work environments,” what the Angel showrunner allegedly said and did to her during her real-life pregnancy, and how she coped with it all, “at times, destructively.”

“I am here for you to listen and support you,” Boreanaz said on Twitter. “Proud of your strength.”

Soon after, Carpenter responded: “I know you’re there for me, David. I appreciate all you’ve done to demonstrate that support privately as well. Especially since Wednesday,” she wrote. “Thank you so much.”

Fellow Angel vet Amy Acker also released a statement on Twitter, which read: “I will always be proud of the work we all did on Angel. While I personally had a good and professional experience, it is heartbreaking to hear that not everyone did. I do not condone any actions that made anyone feel hurt or uncomfortable, and I offer love and support to everyone who is speaking out to tell their truths.”

Carpenter went public with her abuse allegations partially in support of actor Ray Fisher. Fisher, who played Cyborg in the superhero film Justice League, has accused Whedon of, among other things, “gross, abusive, unprofessional and completely unacceptable” behavior upon picking up the directing reins from Zack Snyder.

Carpenter’s statement, in part, read: “Joss Whedon abused his power on numerous occasions while working on the sets of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. While he found his misconduct amusing, it only served to intensify my performance anxiety, disempower me, and alienate me from my peers. The disturbing incidents triggered a chronic physical condition from which I still suffer. It is with a beating, heavy heart that I say I coped in isolation and, at times, destructively.” (Read her full statement here.)

In the wake of Carpenter’s post, fellow Buffyverse alumni — including Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy), Michelle Trachtenberg (Dawn), Amber Benson (Tara) and Eliza Dushku (Faith) — published their own comments in support of their former castmate.

“While I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don’t want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon,” Gellar said. “I stand with all survivors of abuse and am proud of them for speaking out.”

Shortly after Gellar issued her statement, Trachtenberg reposted her TV sister’s comments alongside the following caption: “Thank you @sarahmgellar for saying this. I am brave enough now as a 35 year old woman…. To repost this. Because. This must. Be known. As a teenager. With his not appropriate behavior.” Trachtenberg later edited the post to add, “Very. Not. Appropriate. So now. People know. What Joss. Did. The last. Comment I will make on this. Was. There was a rule. Saying. He’s not allowed in a room alone with Michelle again.”

RELATED STORIES

From Nimue’s arrival to Rafael’s departure, the third season of Legacies has been full of surprises, though none have been quite as lyrical as the jaw-droppers thrown at us in Thursday’s episode, which featured the long-awaited debut performance of Salvatore: The Musical.

Under the bright lights of the Salvatore School auditorium, Josie, Kaleb, Jed and Lizzie — as Elena, Damon, Stefan and Caroline, respectively — retold the story of the institution’s founding, hitting several iconic beats from The Vampire Diaries in the process: Stefan and Elena’s first meeting, Stefan and Damon’s dramatic reunion, Elena’s eternal back-and-forth between the brothers, the seemingly endless parade of doppelgangers, and Klaus’ (played by this week’s interloping monster!) multi-figure donation to the school.

Speaking of Klaus, we even got a surprise performance of “Always and Forever” from Hope, who spent most of the episode rallying against the musical’s depiction of her family. (But more on that later.)

Of course, no surprise was more, well, surprising than the letter Lizzie received from Caroline, particularly because it was read in a voiceover by none other than Candice King (aka Caroline Forbes), marking her first official “appearance” on Legacies. (Click here for our gallery of every crossover in the Vampire Diaries universe, which has now been updated to include this episode.)

And in case you missed any of the letter, here are Caroline’s words in full: “Dear Lizzie, hopefully this can give you some perspective on who I used to be. When I was your age, I remember feeling like I was a total mess, like I was waiting to become a better version of me so my real life could start. But it wasn’t becoming a vampire that changed everything. Change is a series of small moments that build on each other, like steps up the side of a mountain. Your life isn’t on hold until you figure everything out. It’s already happening. You’re already changing, moment by moment. And Elizabeth, there is nothing wrong with you. Your brain chemistry creates unique challenges for you, but you are not broken. You are growing and changing everyday, and it’s beautiful to watch.”

Below, executive producer Julie Plec fields a few of TVLine’s burning questions from the episode:

TV Wish List 2021TVLINE | If there was a musical about my life, and I was still living in town, I’d want to be there. Should we imagine that Damon and Elena politely declined their invitation?
[Laughs] Let’s imagine that they couldn’t find a babysitter.

TVLINE | We did finally get Caroline to show up, even if it was just a vocal cameo. What was the ask there?
As you know, Candice is a good friend of mine and Brett’s, and there’s a soft spot in her heart for this show. She has said over the years that, she will show up one day, but she wanted a break after The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. She wanted to go out and live a non-Caroline Forbes life for a while. But she has always said, “If you never need something small or simple, just let me know.” So I just sent a text and she said, “Absolutely.” And then nine months went by before we actually needed her to do it because of the COVID shutdown.

TVLINE | Hope singing at the end was a nice surprise. How did I not know she could sing?
There are some actors who are very gifted at singing, who may even have a theater background, but just don’t like to sing anymore. They just don’t enjoy it, or they don’t want to combine [singing and acting]. When we did the talent show, Danielle [Rose Russell] was like, “No. Hope has no talent that she’s interested in sharing with anyone.” But when we were coming up with this episode, she was like, “So, Brett, you know that I sing…” And he was like, “Oh, really?” It was written so that it was coming from a place of her character working through a moment that she was having, and it just happened to be in song. That’s what worked for me. And I cry every time.

TVLINE | While we’re talking about the music, who do we give proper credit to?
This was a collaboration between Thomas Brandon, the episode’s writer, who also wrote Josie and Landon’s songs from the talent show. He’s our little secret weapon for musical stuff. But because we were doing a lot more songs than we did in the talent show, I asked him if he wanted to find a partner to take some of the heavy lifting. I reached out to my friend Michael Gracey, who directed The Greatest Showman and spent years developing those songs with [Benj] Pasek and [Justin] Paul. Anytime he came into town and dropped by my house, I’d hear different demo versions for years. So I knew he had a knack for that. I was like, “Do you happen to know anyone who’s not yet as famous as Pasek and Paul?” He said, “As a matter of fact, I just did a project with this guy Chris Read in London, and I think he’s the next Pasek and Paul.” So I said, “Send him my way,” and he did, and it turned into a really terrific partnership. … I also need to give a shout-out to our incredible choreographer Rhonda Kohl. She came up with the idea for that tango.

Legacies 'Vampire Diaries' MusicalTVLINE | How familiar was Chris with this universe? The songs all felt very true to that spirit.
Chris had never seen it, so he had to do quick binge. But because he did that, it was very fresh in his head and hit all the right notes.

TVLINE | This whole experience, revisiting where it all began 11 years ago, must have been cathartic.
I think so. You’ve got a whole range of people working on this crew, some who have been with us since The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. So there was a lot of fun nostalgia for them. And you also have people who are new, who were maybe fans and viewers of the show in the past, so they got to bring their own perspective to it. One of the reasons it works so well is because Thomas wrote from the perspective of a fan, having not written on [the original show]. He could be the social media fan, poking fun at us in a way that we might not have been able to poke fun at ourselves.

TVLINE | Lastly, about that final twist: What’s next after Alyssa’s apparent betrayal of MG?
Nothing good is next. Next week’s episode was written to be the finale of Season 2, so all of the little character things that were illuminated in the musical episode are teeing up the finale. There are betrayals, tragedies, epiphanies. Next week is actually a pretty big episode for all of the characters, and then we essentially launch a new chapter.

BONUS SCOOP | We also chatted with Kaylee Bryant about Josie’s kiss with Jade. Here’s what she says about that relationship: “Josie is not exactly the quickest with things. She needs to learn a lesson before she takes a big leap, and Jade was a huge lesson to her. She openly said, ‘This place isn’t right for me.’ Josie’s been feeling that way for a while now. She gave up her magic after really struggling with an addiction to it. And now she’s living in a place surrounded by magic. It’s all she’s ever known, so hearing someone say that they’re removing themselves from an unhealthy environment is something that Josie definitely needs to hear. This is what really kicks her into gear in taking the steps necessary to take care of herself.

Resident Alien’s Sara Tomko Breaks Down Asta’s Many Insecurities and Why She’s Drawn to Harry’s Brutal Honesty https://briefnews.eu/resident-aliens-sara-tomko-breaks-down-astas-many-insecurities-and-why-shes-drawn-to-harrys-brutal-honesty/ https://briefnews.eu/resident-aliens-sara-tomko-breaks-down-astas-many-insecurities-and-why-shes-drawn-to-harrys-brutal-honesty/#respond Thu, 04 Feb 2021 07:01:58 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/resident-aliens-sara-tomko-breaks-down-astas-many-insecurities-and-why-shes-drawn-to-harrys-brutal-honesty/

RELATED STORIES

Crash-landing on a foreign planet must be incredibly difficult for an extraterrestrial to handle, but Resident Alien‘s resident alien isn’t the only one dealing with some massive baggage.

While Harry continued learning how to pass as human by studying Anne Hathaway photos and brushing his face instead of his teeth (he’s a work in progress, that one), it was nurse Asta Twelvetrees (Sara Tomko) who showed her vulnerable side on Wednesday’s episode. As she continued to mourn the late Dr. Sam Hodges, she revealed the truth behind her relationship with her dad, Dan, allowing Harry the chance to further explore his newfound empathy, as unnatural as it may seem to him. (Though it sure looks like he has a better grasp of human emotion than dental hygiene.)

While Asta was ultimately adopted by her dad as a child, it was Hodges who was “like a father to Asta,” Tomko tells TVLine. Yet still, the love she experienced from Hodges and her community couldn’t prevent feelings of loneliness from creeping in, which led her down a questionable path of bad decisions and even worse men.

“She feels mostly isolated and doesn’t quite know where she fits in,” says Tomko. “It’s very internal, a lot of insecurities and vulnerabilities. We see her stumbling out of this abusive relationship, and then this weird guy comes in the day after she discovered her father figure and friend dead. That is so deep. And [Harry] just comes in and is like, ‘This is awesome!’ It is so offensive! There are so many reasons for her to hate Harry, and yet he has something that she’s never experienced before with any man, and that’s this ability to be brutally honest.”

Despite the fact that she should run away screaming from Harry, the two forge an early friendship in the series’ first couple episodes, bonding over their mutual feelings of isolation.

“There’s a familiarity she has with him. He looks and acts like an outsider, and that’s a mirror reflection of how Asta feels,” says Tomko. “It’s a beautiful, relatable theme that a lot of people will be able to appreciate and respect… that feeling of ‘even when I’m surrounded by so much love, I feel like I don’t fit in.’ And then finding someone you feel like you fit in with? That’s a pretty incredible feeling.”

Adds creator and EP Chris Sheridan: “Even though Asta was raised in a reservation, she feels a bit like an outsider. And she has other issues she’s been going through, with a baby she had to put up for adoption when she was 16, and her horrible abusive marriage. Through all the hard times, she always had Sam to talk to. Without him there anymore, she’s going to have to face these things head-on.”

Unfortunately for Asta, things aren’t about to lighten up anytime soon. Tomko teases that Asta will have yet another bump in the road come Episode 5, but until then, viewers can continue snacking on Harry’s journey, as he explores “the inner workings of how to feel these new feelings he’s never felt before.” As for the rest of Asta’s Season 1 arc, it’s bound to get even messier.

“There is some clarity and closure for Asta in some of her storyline and relationships, but not much, so it’s a little messy from beginning to end,” notes the actress. “But I will say there’s a light at the end of her tunnel. She’s so good at standing up for others, but you start to see her really learn how to stand up for herself.”

Revealing what she’s up to on the big day, Kylie said: “Paul and I, Christmas tree, food, TV and movies.

“It’s going to be very emotional to be able to call back home and be able to celebrate with my family at a distance but celebrate nonetheless.”

Kylie cheekily explained she and Paul share the cooking: “I’ll pour the wine…”

“This Christmas of all Christmases, I think if you want to dress up, knock yourself out, you deserve it,” she added.

To round of Thursday night’s edition of The One Show, Alex Jones revealed Jamie had travelled to a care home in need of some festive cheer. He put on a special performance for the residents and care workers which was shown along with messages from those working at the home. After the segment was broadcast, The One Show cut back to the studio where Alex Scott had to ask for a tissue for her co-star who was in tears.

“I literally think that has taken us through every single emotion,” Scott said turning to her co-host.

Jones could be heard sniffling as she broke down in tears over the heartwarming video.

“How beautiful and special was that please,” Scott asked.

Jones wiped away tears as she replied: “Oh my gosh! Those messages, it was lovely though when Jamie turned up and they were all dancing.”

“Then when he was seven, he got a girlfriend but he was still shackled, he had her for 20 years and then she died.

“Then the kids on my Twitter feed started driving me crazy with ‘Free Kavaan’ and I just thought, you know, I’m entertainer, how do I do this?

“I thought, if I don’t pay any attention to them they’ll stop. And they didn’t.”

Alex remarked: “So the power of social media drew you to the elephant and you had some help, you made him happier but then the story gained momentum because eventually you managed to move Kavaan to Cambodia.
