People have long tried to use music as a tool to improve their abilities. Soldiers chanted songs when marching into battle, sailors sang songs on long voyages, and cloth makers sang when weaving. But do we have any evidence that music makes a difference for any of our activities?

We’ve only recently started to ask that question scientifically. It began with the Mozart effect, which seemed to link classical music to improved mental performance. Named after the famous composer, it was shorthand for the apparent boost in IQ tests that people listening to his music experienced. But the phenomenon turned out not to be real. “Background music was thought to help with work. [It was] found to be the noise stopping the person from being distracted,” says Professor Concetta Tomaino, executive director and co-founder of the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function.

However, research into music and its effects on human abilities continued and eventually resulted in the discovery of an effect called brain entrainment, which appears capable of improving memory, focus, sleep, and physical activity.

And you’ll be happy to know that Yakko, Wakko and Dot are just as self-aware as ever, opening the trailer by explaining that “reboots are symptomatic of a fundamental lack of originality in Hollywood.” That is, until Hulu offers them a ludicrous amount of money to return to TV after 22 years away.

We’re then given a glimpse at some of the trio’s impending shenanigans, including a pretty pony with an ugly prediction, the siblings’ anime-style transformation, and what appears to be a giant baby Donald Trump cyclops. Because why not.

The two-minute sneak peek also offers a first look at the return of Pinky and the Brain, the former of which attempts to navigate the world of online dating, only to encounter an endless stream of literal catfish.

Our only complaint? There’s no sign of Animaniacs‘ beloved supporting characters — Hello Nurse, Slappy Squirrel, the Goodfeathers, Rita and Runt, Buttons and Mindy, Minerva Mink, etc. — leading us to believe that they won’t feature into these initial 13 episodes. (Fingers crossed we’ll seem in the already-ordered second season.)

  • A new and ongoing study from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is testing how screen time affects children’s brains, CBS News reported.
  • When complete, the study will have followed more than 11,000 children for a decade, monitoring how digital screens like smartphones, video games, and tablets are changing the young brain.
  • The first brain scans from the study have been analyzed and found children who spend more than seven hours per day with screens experience “premature thinning of the cortex,” Dr. Gaya Dowling, one of the study’s authors, told CBS News.
  • The study also found that kids who spent more than two hours with screens daily got lower scores on tests about thinking and language topics.

A first-of-its-kind study from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is analyzing how screen time affects children’s brains, CBS News reported. Over the next decade, the study will look at the brains of 11,000 9- and 10-year-olds as they grow up around screens.

“We’ll be able to see not only how much time are they spending, how they perceive it impacting them, but also what are some of the outcomes,” Dr. Gaya Dowling, one of the study’s authors, told CBS News. “And that will get at the question of whether there’s addiction or not.”

She said “Alex has a lot of potential. But I need to get know him more though – I don’t think we’ve seen how fun he can be. Maybe I can bring that out in him?”

Contestant Hayley Hughes, 21, from Liverpool, who was ditched from Love Island last week, admitted that she could not name Britain’s Prime Minister.

And viewers were bemused when Hayley seemed puzzled during a Brexit discussion.

“So does that mean we won’t have any trees?” she asked, adding:

“So it would be harder to go on holidays? Oh, I love my holidays.”
