AT 2pm tomorrow afternoon the credibility of world boxing goes on the line.

And Australia’s greatest fighter, Jeff Fenech, is concerned UFC superstar Conor McGregor could destroy it. And he’s not alone.

Boxing has nothing to gain but everything to lose in this Mayweather-McGregor super fight that will be watched by a potential world audience of 100 million fans.

If Floyd Mayweather wins and takes his undefeated record to 50, it’s what we all expected.

Yet McGregor has an excuse in that he a martial arts machine, not a boxer.

If the UFC champion wins, boxing will be seen as the weaker of the two combat sports.

“This guy (McGregor) is so unconventional,” Fenech said. “He’s going to put his heart and soul into it.

“He’ll either get knocked out or he’ll knock Floyd out. It’s going to be closer than we think.

“Most of the boxers Floyd has fought have been a little but cautious. Not this guy.

“Sometimes I wonder why the bout was ever sanctioned considering one guy has never fought as a boxer. I guess money speaks all languages.”

Fenech fears the age and weight advantage will work in McGregor’s favour.

Plus the fact Mayweather hasn’t fought for two years and doesn’t appear to be taking the fight as seriously as one might expect.

In between training he’s spent most nights this week at his new strip club in downtown Las Vegas entertaining guests with his girls in lingerie.

Fenech expects him to win but fears a boilover.

“McGregor’s going to be really dangerous,” Fenech said, “He’s 20 pounds bigger. He’s stronger.

“Floyd knows this guy is going to attack him. He’s trouble. And he can fight. People are thinking it can’t happen but it can.

Other commentators agree boxing could be the biggest loser, including Showtime’s senior fight analyst Steve Farhood.

“How much is expected of Conor McGregor,” Farhood said. “If he goes in, tries to win and fails, everyone is happy.

“He hasn’t hurt his brand at all. The whole experience of fighting the most famous athlete in the world is a positive for him. He has won already. Whereas Mayweather has much more to lose.

“We don’t know what to expect from McGregor. We know Floyd, we know how he fights, we know his brilliance. We don’t know what McGregor is. To me, as a boxing guy, even if McGregor is slightly competitive, that is a victory for McGregor.”

FOR more than half a century Bob Arum has promoted some of the greatest fights of all time and says with 55,000 people cheering for Jeff Horn, Brisbane’s Fighting Schoolteacher could spring a huge upset over Manny Pacquiao at Suncorp Stadium on July 2.

Arum and Pacquiao will hit Brisbane next week for a whirlwind national promotional tour ahead of the World Boxing Organization welterweight title bout that pits Queensland’s underdog against the 11-time world champion, who is now a prominent Filipino senator.

Pacquiao is being encouraged to wear a NSW Blues rugby league jersey as he prepares for the fight which will take place 10 days before Origin III at the same venue.

Arum, 85, who was Muhammad Ali’s long-time promoter, says he sat gobsmacked at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas in 1978 when Leon Spinks, a veteran of just seven pro fights, took the world heavyweight title from The Greatest in a stunning upset.

He says Horn has the ability to create a similar shock.

“I watched Horn’s last fight ringside in New Zealand and he’s a very capable young man,” Arum told The Sunday Mail from his home in Las Vegas.

“If his fight with Pacquiao was in Vegas or Madison Square Garden in New York I wouldn’t give him much of a chance because I think nerves would take over against a fighter like Manny.

Arum promoted his first fight in 1966 when Ali beat the rugged Canadian George Chuvalo in Toronto in their world heavyweight title fight and he staged such other historic battles as the Ali-Joe Frazier “Thrilla in Manila”, Sugar Ray Leonard against Marvin Hagler, most of Roberto Duran’s epic title fights and – two years ago – the Floyd Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, which was the richest bout in history with nearly $ 1 billion in revenue.

Arum has promoted in Brisbane before – staging the world light-heavyweight title fight between Grafton’s Jeff Harding and England’s Tom Collins at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in 1989.

But at 85 he says Pacquiao-Horn will be one of the “signature” bouts of his career.

“The July 2 fight is a huge event,” Arum said. “And I’m so glad that after a long time of negotiations it is coming to Brisbane and the huge stadium you have there.

“Fights like this are what makes the sport so exciting for me after 51 years in boxing. Australia is a great sporting country and to do an event like this for more than 50,000 people in Brisbane is really memorable.”

ONE of the highlights of the Mundine-Green fight card at Adelaide Oval will be the appearance of the magnificent Moloney twins.

Both have represented Australia at Commonwealth Games, with Andrew winning gold at Glasgow three years ago.

The pair of livewire 26-year-olds are now world rated as professionals, Jason at super-bantamweight (55.5kg) and Andrew at bantamweight (53.5kg). Both are unbeaten in 11 pro fights.

Danny Green says they and Brisbane’s Jeff Horn are Australian boxing’s stars of the future.

“Ripper blokes and great fighters,” Green said.

“One of the best things about fighting on such a big stage as Adelaide Oval is that a lot of Australians are also going to see the Moloney boys. They are all class in and out of the ring.”

The twins are coached in Melbourne by Brian Butler, who has trained 32 national champions and says he finally has a pair of goers who can take world title belts.

Tomorrow night Andrew Moloney faces Filipino Renoel Pael, who has a 21-4-1 (win-loss-draw) record.

Brother Jason faces another Filipino, Marco Demecillo, who is 22-6-1.

Brisbane’s world No. 10 light-heavyweight Trent Broadhurst tackles rugged Sydney veteran Nader Hamdan, who went 12 rounds in a world title fight with Mundine in 2008.
