  • Stocks have yet to bottom and will see more downside later this year, Morgan Stanley said.
  • In the best-case scenario, the bank predicted that the S&P 500 would fall to 3,400 by year-end, and in the event of a recession, it would fall to 3,000.
  • But Morgan Stanley also expects the S&P 500 to recover next year, rising as high as 3,900 by June 2023, or to 3,350 in a bearish scenario.

Stocks haven't bottomed yet and could fall as much as 23% as investors shift their focus to slowing growth from Fed tightening, according to Morgan Stanley.

In the best-case scenario, the bank predicted that the S&P 500 would fall to 3,400 by year-end, and in the event of a recession, it would fall to 3,000. That represents downside of 13% and 23%, respectively, from current levels.

"While acknowledging the poor performance in equities year-to-date, we do not think the bear market is over if our earnings forecasts are correct," a team of analysts from Morgan Stanley said in a note on Tuesday.

Analysts revised their estimates for S&P 500 earnings per share down to $ 220 from $ 225 this year, and to $ 212 from $ 236 in the following year.

But Morgan Stanley also expects the S&P 500 to recover next year, rising as high as 3,900 by June 2023, or to 3,350 in a bearish scenario.

Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve is also expected to deliver another rate-hike of 50 to 75 basis points this month, which could eventually slow earnings further.

"Bottom line, we think the next several quarters will end up containing some of the most significant downward revisions to forward EPS forecasts we have seen in the past several cycles," analysts added.

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 has been an interesting year for Strictly fans, as the BBC show has thrown a lot of curveballs at the contestants. Last week saw the tragic exit of Michelle Visage, after fans rallied around her the week before. This week, following on from the iconic Blackpool episode, saw the contestants struggle to find their feet again.

The challenging week left some contestants a little worse off than others, but ultimately, it was a low-scoring week on the show.

YouTube star and youngsters’ favourite Saffron Barker struggled to keep it together alongside her partner AJ Pritchard.

The 19-year-old took on the Samba to Walking on Sunshine this evening, which wowed crowds and fans, but didn’t do too much for the judges.

Unfortunately for Saffron, this performance left her joint last with Alex Scott and her partner Neil Jones.

Both pairs were left with scores of 26, which is considered quite low at week ten.

Since then, bookmakers have been furiously adjusting their odds – and things don’t look good for Saffron.

According to Coral, Saffron and AJ are the evens favourite to be eliminated from the results show this evening.

This would be a dreadful loss for Saffron, who has consistently worked her way up through the show over the past ten weeks.

However their luck may not be entirely out just yet, as Alex and Neil aren’t far behind them.

The pair have been given a 2-1 odds on leaving the show this evening – which, although better than Saffron and AJ, certainly isn’t the greatest odds.

Coral’s John Hill explained: “Saffron survived the dance-off last week, however, our betting suggests she will have no such luck this week as she is the favourite in our elimination market following the latest performances.”

Meanwhile, things haven’t changed for Kelvin Fletcher, who is still the odds-on favourite to win the competition outright with 2-5 to claim the Glitterball Trophy.

Karim Zeroual, despite having a tough night as well, is still sitting with an impressive 4-1 odds on winning as well.

OddsMonkey spokesperson Peter Watton recently spoke about last week’s results, and how this week could indeed follow the same pattern.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Peter said: “Many people might have been shocked by Michelle Visage, Bookmakers included.

“But the Social Media stats tell us otherwise. In the week she went she gained less than one per cent, the same as Saffron Barker who was in the dance off with her.

  • A seasonal Amazon worker, who wrote an anonymous column in The Guardian, described the induction talk they were given on their first day.
  • A manager took an image of an inverted pyramid, labelled the bottom “least important” and said that CEO Jeff Bezos thinks he belongs at this end of the diagram.
  • Amazon’s customers and warehouse workers were right at the top of the inverted pyramid.
  • The anonymous staffer went on to savage Amazon’s working conditions, saying that employees in the warehouses are treated as “disposable.”

Amazon workers are told that Jeff Bezos considers himself the least important person at the company.

That’s according to a seasonal worker, who wrote an anonymous column for The Guardian in which they described their introductory talk from a fulfilment center manager.

A man has been jailed for three months for slapping a woman’s bottom in Paris. In a first under a new catcalling law, he was also fined for making lewd remarks about her body.

The individual was reportedly under the influence of alcohol when he slapped the 21-year-old’s bottom on a crowded bus and made an insulting comment about her breasts. The outraged bus driver refused to open the doors until police arrived to arrest the man.

The man, who’s in his 30s, was sentenced to three months in prison for the sexually aggressive action by a judge in Evry, south of Paris, and fined €300 for the offensive comment.

The fine was the first to be imposed under France’s new legislation aimed at deterring predatory remarks and harassing wolf-whistles which have become a daily occurrence for women. The harassment law also allows for on-the-spot fines of up to €750.

The gender equality minister who was instrumental in bringing the law to fruition, Marlène Schiappa, hailed the court’s decision on Twitter: “Bravo for the bus driver’s quick-wittedness and the penalty imposed.”

Calls for women to be legally protected from harassment reached fever point in Paris after video footage emerged of a woman being viciously attacked by a random man after she told him to “shut up” because he wolf-whistled at her.

The High Council for Equality between Women and Men says that 100 percent of women claim they have been harassed on public transport at least once – the harassment ranging from dirty looks to sexual assault and rape – and in over 50 percent of the cases, they say the first act of aggression happened before they turned 18.

With glitter smeared on her cheeks and smudged kohl lining her eyes, Elisabeth Moss looks like a punk rock diva from hell, as she rants and raves to a captive audience backstage after a show. The brief scene follows Becky mid-breakdown backstage, filmed in extreme close-ups that serve to unsettle and unbalance you — a staple of Ross Perry’s style.

Moss stars in Her Smell as Becky Something, a self-destructive rock star whose relationships with her bandmates, family, and fans suffer during her years-long war against alcoholism. She finds inspiration again when she becomes the mentor to a rising all-female band The Akergirls, but begins to crack under the pressure to succeed when her former bandmate begins to rise to stardom and she begins to fade into obscurity.

Moss gave a revelatory performance in her last collaboration with Ross Perry, but judging by what we’ve seen of Her Smell,  this latest film could easily top that. “[T]his was the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” Moss said in an interview ahead of the film’s TIFF premiere. “It was not fun a lot of the time. It was hard to be in that head space, and hard to be in that person, with all that chaos and craziness. Some things are more fun to play than others. And this was difficult. At the end, I was incredibly fulfilled and happy that I’d done the role. But when we were shooting it, it was not easy.”

Her Smell also stars Cara Delevingne and Amber Heard.

A report – carried out by flight compensation company AirHelp – found that the UK air travel industry is performing poorly across the board, with both UK airlines and airports receiving damning feedback.   

Low-cost airlines in particular performed poorly with easyJet coming in as the lowest ranked airline of the UK-based carriers, based largely on its poor claims handling score.

EasyJet has refuted the criticism, however. A spokesperson from the airline told Express.co.uk, “We absolutely do not recognise these findings. 

“EasyJet takes its responsibilities under Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 extremely seriously and will always pay compensation when it is due. 

“We offer simple webforms easily found on our website and are currently processing valid claims in less than 21 days. We have plans to further improve this payment processing time later this year.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for our passengers to claim with us directly rather than sacrificing a significant portion of their compensation to other organisations like AirHelp unnecessarily.”

Budget airline Ryanair only fared marginally better than easyJet, coming in two places higher. A Ryanair spokesperson told Express.co.uk, “The fact that almost 90% of our flights are on time and we receive the fewest complaints highlights how irrelevant these ‘statistics’ are. Thanks to our unbeatable low fares and ‘Always Getting Better’ customer service, some 138m customers will choose to fly Ryanair this year, making us Europe’s No.1 airline, the only ranking that matters.”

Jet2 was just outside the bottom 10 carriers in the world, according to the report, while Thomas Cook found itself just outside the bottom 20. Express.co.uk has contacted both airlines for comment.

At the other end of the spectrum was Virgin Atlantic, which is the highest ranked carrier and rated number 10 in the world, with mostly positive scores across the board. 

Flybe also featured highly at number 14, although was let down by a poor mark in the ‘quality of service category’. UK national carrier, British Airways, was ranked at 21. 

For the annual report AirHelp analysed a series of key performance indicators for air travel looking at factors including on-time performance and quality of service. It also measured Twitter sentiment for every airport while also measuring claim processing as KPI for the airlines.

The study revealed that the UK has four airports in the poorest 20 in the world. 

Stanstead is the UK’s worst performing airport, according to the report, and was ranked second bottom in the global list, driven largely by poor Twitter sentiment.

A London Stansted spokesperson said of the result, “Stansted is the fastest growing London airport and is investing significant sums of money to ensure that our passengers are provided with the high levels of customer experience that they are entitled to.

“This latest survey from AirHelp is purely a self-serving exercise based on very little or no substantive evidence and designed to promote a company seeking to take a share of flight compensation claims.”

London Heathrow was cited as the UK’s best performing airport in the report.

This is largely driven by a high rating when it came to on-time performance and gaining 8/10 for quality of service. 

However, it still lags well behind the number one ranked airport, Hamad International Airport, Doha, Qatar, which was nine or above on both accounts.

“This is a double-whammy for UK consumers so it’s little surprised they’re feeling frustrated,” said AirHelp CEO and co-founder Henrik Zillmer. 

“They’re moving from a poorly performing airport to an equally underachieving airline and something needs to be done.”

Hey, have you heard about Spartan Fist, the colorful first person brawler where you punch dudes really, really hard? Well, you should, because the game’s out in two weeks. In light of the game’s upcoming release, I had a quick chat with lead developer Megan Fox about creating this candy-colored roguelite and what’s next for Glass Bottom Games.

You’ve shown Spartan Fist at various conventions during the last year. What has been your best takeaway from this?

That fighting games aren’t just for mid-20’s and 30’s guys. We’ve got a pretty hardcore brawler here, with a lot of systems to learn, but we had all ages, all genders walk up and try it out. Not only that, but we had all ages, all genders actually get through the tutorial, and then just play and actually have fun with it.

The game will have roguelike elements, which is usually another way of saying “this is going to be quite challenging and you will die a lot” At the same time, it looks colorful and, well, friendly. How do prevent more casual or inexperienced players from getting frustrated too easily?

A tutorial is incredibly important for novice players. I don’t know if I could point at another fighting or shooting roguelike/rogue-lite that actually… teaches the player how to play. They all pretty much assume you already know how a twin-stick or side-scrolling brawler works. Critically, that tutorial also needs to teach you that DYING IS OK. We saw novice players quitting when they died in the tutorial, until we added a happy little “it’s ok! this was supposed to happen!” sort of message, and then, generally speaking, it clicked.

You don’t need to keep your casual or inexperienced players from getting frustrated, you just need to tell them how to play. Once they understand the rules and expectations put upon them, it may not be the game for them, but for many, they’re still into it.

There aren’t too many first person fighting games out there. How did you get the brawling to feel just right from a first person perspective?

By looking at games that are effectively first-person brawlers but nobody realizes it, heh. Specifically, God Hand. We spent a ton of time peeling it apart, trying to understand how its enemy design worked, and – well, just go look at footage again. See how large the player is on screen? See how limited the FOV feels? See how you can’t even see the player’s feet? It isn’t a third-person action game, it’s an FPS where your gun is shaped like a punching guy.

Also, there are some good actual-first-person-brawler references. Zeno Clash is the titan in the space, even after all these years, and Zeno Clash 2’s arena mode is part of what inspired Spartan Fist’s play structure.

What’s something you love about the games industry at the moment, and what would you like to see changed?

I love the diversity of play experiences available. I’d really like to see more of the experimental ones have a better avenue toward financial success, though.

Your best advice for gamedev rookies would be…

Don’t quit your day job. Keep your project going on nights and weekends as long as you possibly can. It’s way, way easier to make the sort of game that’ll do well at market if you aren’t stressing about the money going into it.

It depends how Spartan Fist does, but I figure, Emma and Franky probably deserve a break at this point. They’ve been firefighters, detectives, death-arena brawlers… man, they just need a vacation.
