England face Croatia in their Nations League showdown tonight, aiming to secure a second win after beating Switzerland last time out.

All eyes are on Borussia Dortmund prodigy, who is seen as one of the hottest prospects in the Bundesliga.

And Ince, speaking exclusively to Express Sport, believes he was right to head to Dortmund following his release from Manchester City.

“It was a great move,” he said when asked about Sancho, who is in line for his England debut against Croatia tonight.

“You’d think with Gareth putting him in the squad he’s in line for some minutes.

“If not tonight, then he should feature against Spain.

“I’m fed up with all these players stuck in the under-23s not playing for their clubs.

“They can have a lot of talent, a lot of potential, but what good is that if they’re not playing?

“They need to play. They have to play.

“Look at my boy, Thomas (Tom Ince). He was at Liverpool at 19 but then spent time at Notts County and Blackpool.

“Sancho is now playing at Dortmund and he’s really benefitted from that move.

“I wouldn’t necessarily say abroad, but I’d like to see more young players leaving their clubs to get game time.”

Ince himself chanced his arm abroad, just like the Borussia Dortmund prodigy.

The 50-year-old spent two years at Inter Milan following his departure from Manchester United.

Express Sport quizzed him on how he felt swapping the Premier League for Serie A.

“Those were the greatest years of my career,” he added.

“Everything there was great. The food, the culture.

“I was a bit apprehensive because there are things you need to consider. Will the wife settle? My boy was two at the time. Finding him a school as well.

“But they were great years. There was no better place to be.

“Italian football had Zinedine Zidane, Roberto Carlos, Roberto Baggio. It was a great experience.”

Footage shows the Borussia Dortmund striker wheeling his luggage into the airport terminal with two other people.

Social media editor for German outlet Ruhr Nachrichten Florian Groeger posted the video on Twitter and said: “BREAKING! @Aubameyang7 has just arrived at @DortmundAirport with his family.”

It is not clear where Aubameyang is flying to but his most likely destination is London to seal his £55million move to Arsenal.

Aubameyang’s move to the Emirates appeared to be at an impasse despite Arsenal and Dortmund reaching an agreement on the fee.

Dortmund refused to sanction the deal until they had signed a replacement for Aubameyang.

Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi is the man Dortmund want to replace Aubameyang but the Blues are also attempting to find a forward to cover for the Belgian, which could be Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud.

But Aubameyang’s arrival at Dortmund airport suggests there has been a breakthrough.

Aubameyang was booed by a section of Dortmund fans at the Westfalenstadion during their 2-2 draw with Freiburg on Saturday and a banner in the crowd read: ‘No player is bigger than our club’.

When asked about Aubameyang, Huddersfield manager David Wagner hailed the 28-year-old as “top class”.

“He will be top class. He is a top-class striker, goalscorer – he has everything,” said Wagner.

“The club who will sign him can be very happy for sure. I really like this player.”

While German football expert Raphael Honigstein claims the deal is definitely going through.

Honigstein said on the BBC’S Euro Leagues Podcast: “Yes, he is going for sure.

“Dortmund are still trying to get a replacement in, but it’s looking pretty good for Michy Batshuayi on loan – that’s the latest we’ve heard.

“They’re reluctant to buy outright and there aren’t that many players that fit the bill on loan for them.

“This one is definitely going through.

“He’ll bring pace, great finishing and great movement to the table.

“I think it’ll be hard to get him to play alongside (Alexandre) Lacazette.

“He’s someone who will add goals for Arsenal, but I don’t know if he’ll individually lift the team to another level.

“I’m not sure he’s that type of player.”

Aubameyang to Arsenal: Gunners make improved bid for Borussia Dortmund striker https://briefnews.eu/aubameyang-to-arsenal-gunners-make-improved-bid-for-borussia-dortmund-striker/ https://briefnews.eu/aubameyang-to-arsenal-gunners-make-improved-bid-for-borussia-dortmund-striker/#respond Tue, 23 Jan 2018 20:22:14 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/aubameyang-to-arsenal-gunners-make-improved-bid-for-borussia-dortmund-striker/

According to respected German outlet Bild, Arsenal have upped their offer from £48.3million to £50.9m.

Dortmund are understood to want a swift conclusion to the situation and have been holding talks with Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis, chief scout Sven Mislintat and contract negotiator Huss Fahmy.

The Bundesliga side have slapped a £61.5m price tag on Aubameyang which Arsenal are reluctant to meet.

Earlier today, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was asked if he was confident of completing a deal for Aubameyang and replied: “Confident or not confident, I don’t know.

“You never know how close you are.

“This is the kind of thing – he is one of the possible movements, but we have other things in mind as well. We have plenty of opportunities and the final decision is not made.

“At the moment we are not close to any deal, Aubameyang or anybody else.”

Despite the speculation surrounding him, Aubameyang has trained with his team-mates this week.

Any move to Arsenal could include Olivier Giroud moving in the opposite direction.

Giroud has been out of the Arsenal team this season after losing his place to Alexandre Lacazette and wants to ensure a spot in France’s World Cup team.

When asked if Giroud would be part of any deal, Wenger added: “The negotiations are not as far as that.”

Should Aubameyang join Arsenal, he would link up with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, having played with him at Dortmund.

And Wenger reckons the pair are capable of rekindling their relationship due to their quality.

He said: “You look at players and what their qualities are, what they can give to the team. When they are good players, they can always play together.”

Meanwhile,  next Monday to give evidence in the trail over the Dortmund team bus bombing.

Aubameyang was with the deal when exploring devices were let off near the bus, injuring Marc Bartra.

Aubameyang is due to be a witness in court and there are concerns this could delay his transfer to Arsenal, with the judge worried he will not be able to attend if he is in England to complete a deal.

Real Madrid news: Double Borussia Dortmund swoop planned to help challenge Barcelona https://briefnews.eu/real-madrid-news-double-borussia-dortmund-swoop-planned-to-help-challenge-barcelona/ https://briefnews.eu/real-madrid-news-double-borussia-dortmund-swoop-planned-to-help-challenge-barcelona/#respond Tue, 07 Nov 2017 07:14:57 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/real-madrid-news-double-borussia-dortmund-swoop-planned-to-help-challenge-barcelona/

Real Madrid have already fallen eight points behind rivals Barcelona in the race for the title after just 11 games.

While it is still early in the season, Barcelona have looked in dominant form with Lionel Messi scoring 12 La Liga goals.

In contrast, both Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo have netted just once each in the league while their top scorer, Marco Asensio, has four.

And Real president Perez has already targeted two young Bundesliga stars to draft in and challenge with his faltering stars.

According to El Gol Digital, Real are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund duo Christian Pulisic and Julian Weigl.

The Bundesliga pair are tipped for bright futures and have had a host of Europe’s elite teams chase their signature in recent years.

But Real are said to be prepared to use Lucas Vazquez and Marcos Llorente in a potential exchange to sweeten the deal with the German club.

Weigl joined Dortmund in 2015 from 1860 Munich and has since established himself as a regular in the starting line-up.

Pulisic, 19, made his first-team debut just over 18 months ago and has attracted the attention of a number of clubs with Bayern Munich also heavily linked with a move.

Why has Thomas Tuchel left Borussia Dortmund? Is he joining Arsenal? What he said https://briefnews.eu/why-has-thomas-tuchel-left-borussia-dortmund-is-he-joining-arsenal-what-he-said/ https://briefnews.eu/why-has-thomas-tuchel-left-borussia-dortmund-is-he-joining-arsenal-what-he-said/#respond Tue, 30 May 2017 13:42:50 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/why-has-thomas-tuchel-left-borussia-dortmund-is-he-joining-arsenal-what-he-said/

Respected German newspaper Bild this morning reported that Tuchel had agreed a £2.5m compensation package with Dortmund bosses to go.

Dortmund finished third in the Bundesliga this season – 18 points behind Bayern Munich. On Saturday, Tuchel lifted the German Cup after a 2-1 win over Eintracht.

It was Dortmund’s first trophy in five years but that wasn’t enough to keep him at the club.

Tuchel had been in charge two years, losing just 10 of 68 Bundesliga matches.

The club have subsequently released an official statement and plans are already underway to appoint his successor.

What has Thomas Tuchel said?

Officially, in person, Tuchel is yet to speak.

However a Twitter account has emerged that has now been verified – of which the username is @TTucheloffical.

It has posted just three tweets, which read: “I am grateful for two beautiful, eventful and exciting years. It’s a pity that it will not go on. Thanks to the fans, to the crew, to the staff and to all who supported us. Wishes the @BVB all the best. TT. “

Why has Thomas Tuchel left Borussia Dortmund?

It appears there are multiple reasons for his departure.

Firstly, transfers. Last summer Dortmund’s three best players all left – Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Ilkay Gundogan and Mats Hummels. It’s thought that left the boss unhappy – because CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke had agreed not to sell them. Tuchel is said to have wanted Leverkusen defender Omer Toprak – and was left unhappy when he didn’t come.

Since then, relationships at BVB have become fraught. ESPN say Tuchel felt out with head scout Sven Mislintat, who had unearthed strikers Robert Lewandowski and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

He also had a tense relationship with club fans, with many believing he didn’t fit in with the Dortmund style.

In January, Watzke said anything but a top-three finish would mean the club have failed. Tuchel then had 18 months left on his current deal but talks on an extension were delayed.

After the team bus was hit by three explosions in April, Dortmund’s Champions League clash with Monaco was rescheduled for a day later. That was agreed with CEO Watzke – a decision Tuchel was angered by. His side then crashed out the competition.

Is Thomas Tuchel heading to Arsenal?

The short answer, it appears, is no. Express Sport understand Arsene Wenger will stay on as Arsenal boss with an announcement expected imminently.

However, in the past Tuchel has talked up the opportunity of replacing the Frenchmen.

Who will replace Thomas Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund?

Bild believe Lucien Favre, of Nice, and Cologne’s Peter Stoger are both possible options.

What have Borussia Dortmund said?

The club released a statement this afternoon, which read: “The eight-time German champion Borussia Dortmund and coach Thomas Tuchel are now separated from each other. This is the result of a conversation between Hans-Joachim Watzke (CEO), Michael Zorc (sports director), Thomas Tuchel and his advisor Olaf Meinking, which took place on Tuesday.

“We would like to thank Thomas Tuchel and his coaching staff for the sporting success at the BVB, which reached their deserved climax last Saturday at the DFB Pokalsieg in Berlin against Eintracht Frankfurt. For his professional future we wish Thomas Tuchel only the very best.

“Borussia Dortmund as an employer will not express itself in the background of the separation, which is the result of a longer process and is supported by all the club committees, and asks in the sense of all parties concerned for an understanding of the desire that not on the basis of rumors without any background.

“BVB attaches great importance to the fact that the cause of the separation is by no means a disagreement between two persons. The well-being of the club Borussia Dortmund, which is much more than the sporting success, will always be more important than individuals and possible differences between them.”

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp 'proud' of former club Borussia Dortmund after explosions https://briefnews.eu/liverpool-boss-jurgen-klopp-proud-of-former-club-borussia-dortmund-after-explosions/ https://briefnews.eu/liverpool-boss-jurgen-klopp-proud-of-former-club-borussia-dortmund-after-explosions/#respond Thu, 13 Apr 2017 12:41:57 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/liverpool-boss-jurgen-klopp-proud-of-former-club-borussia-dortmund-after-explosions/

Borussia Dortmund’s squad was preparing to leave their team hotel for the Westfalenstadion and a Champions League clash with Monaco.

But three explosions targeted at the team coach, which resulted in for treatment on his hand, meant the game did not go ahead.

in the rescheduled fixture yesterday.

The Bundesliga club have criticised UEFA for their rescheduling of the match so soon after the incident.

And manager Klopp, who oversaw a period of success at Dortmund between 2008 and 2015, says he was shaken by events that unfolded in Germany.

“I don’t think what I say is too important,” he said ahead of Liverpool’s clash with West Brom on Sunday (1.30pm).

“Everybody can imagine it was a difficult moment for me because I don’t know how often I was in the team hotel with Dortmund.

“I know exactly the road. A lot of my friends were in the bus. I was on the way home from Melwood and Matt called me and told me something happened.

“I was really concerned, scared for them. In the first moment it was a bit of relief, then you hear the more information you get the more serious it got.

“I had contact with people but I didn’t want to bother them with my silly questions. I was waiting with the rest of the world. The last thing I thought about was the game.”

Asked about the game rescheduling, Klopp said: “I can 100 percent understand both sides – it was difficult to find another date. I think everybody could understand if you couldn’t play it.

“I was really proud of Borussia Dortmund. When they played the game they tried to give the best.

“I saw the faces of my former players and I saw the shock in their eyes and that was really, really hard.”

Dortmund are set to play Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Saturday before the reverse fixture with Monaco next Wednesday.

And Klopp concedes the squad may not be best prepared for their games following the attack.

“It will take time to deal with it. I’m pretty sure the people who make the decision afterwards, if they had been in the bus they would not have played the game,” he said.

“If you are not in the bus you cannot imagine how it is exactly.

“I am like all the other football fans in the world, the only difference is I know all of them.”

Asked about whether or not it is difficult to carry on as normal, Klopp said: “No. It’s not. It’s difficult to speak about, but in the world a lot of difficult to understand things happen.

“As human beings we all think about this but as long as we are not directly involved, it’s hard but life goes on.

“I see it like all in the world see it. We have to carry on. We will and we can. We can concentrate on football and training.”

Borussia Dortmund coach Tuchel slams UEFA for fixture scheduling after bus explosion https://briefnews.eu/borussia-dortmund-coach-tuchel-slams-uefa-for-fixture-scheduling-after-bus-explosion/ https://briefnews.eu/borussia-dortmund-coach-tuchel-slams-uefa-for-fixture-scheduling-after-bus-explosion/#respond Wed, 12 Apr 2017 20:47:08 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/borussia-dortmund-coach-tuchel-slams-uefa-for-fixture-scheduling-after-bus-explosion/

Dortmund lost 3-2 to Monaco tonight after the original match was postponed following the explosions which saw Marc Bartra hospitalised.

The team bus was hit with explosions as it drove towards the stadium leading to the match being called off just 15 minutes before the scheduled kick off.

But Tuchel claims Dortmund were not spoken to regarding the rescheduling.

UEFA said it made the decision after consulting both teams, however Tuchel said he and his players were not asked.

“We weren’t asked at any point. We were told by text message that the decision had been made in Switzerland,” he said.

“When they told us ‘you’re up tomorrow’, we felt completely ignored.

“We would have liked more time to take stock. This gives you the feeling of impotence, that we have to keep functioning and nothing else matters.

“I encouraged everyone to take the game seriously but football is not the most important thing in the world.”

Tuchel reiterated his disappointement with UEFA and said he asked the players if they were ready to play – despite being told the were by the officials in Switzerland.

“We were informed by text message that UEFA was making this decision,” he added.

“A decision made in Switzerland that concerns us directly. We will not forget it, it is a very bad feeling.

“A few minutes after this attack, the only question that was asked was, ‘Are you ready to play?’. As if we had thrown a beer on our coach.

“At that time, we did not know the reasons for this attack. There is a feeling of helplessness. The date was imposed on us. What we think has not interested anyone. We weren’t asked about playing the game.

“I just wanted more time, a few more days. In a few days, we will not have digested completely but time helps us to find a solution.

“It is important to have a chance to realise this dream and our team was not at the top in concentration to make a difference at this level.

“UEFA is eager to continue playing. Of course we have to keep it going, but we still want to be competitive. We do not want to use the situation as an excuse.

“We wished we would have had more time to deal with what happened, but someone in Switzerland decided we must play.

“Every player has the right to deal with it in his way. The team did not feel in the mood, in which you must be for such a game.

“We let the players choose if they wanted to play. But this morning, we found that the training had done good, that it had made us think of something else.

“We were attacked as men and we tried to solve the problem on the ground.

“Everyone has their own way of reacting to events. The players had the choice not to play but no one chose this option.”

Borussia Dortmund bomb: Players in training, Monaco tie tonight, Bartra undergoes surgery https://briefnews.eu/borussia-dortmund-bomb-players-in-training-monaco-tie-tonight-bartra-undergoes-surgery/ https://briefnews.eu/borussia-dortmund-bomb-players-in-training-monaco-tie-tonight-bartra-undergoes-surgery/#respond Wed, 12 Apr 2017 11:49:59 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/borussia-dortmund-bomb-players-in-training-monaco-tie-tonight-bartra-undergoes-surgery/

Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League quarter-final first-leg match with Monaco was postponed after three explosions near their team bus on the way to the stadium last night.

The match was cancelled swiftly after the attack, which left Dortmund defender Marc Bartra requiring surgery on a broken bone in his wrist.

But Dortmund will take on Monaco tonight (5.45pm) at the Westfalenstadion with Thomas Tuchel’s squad training this morning.

Dortmund tweeted: “The team currently trains and prepares for the game tonight. #bvbasm”

Police cars escored Dortmund’s players into training at their Hohenbuschei HQ this morning.

Dortmund’s police chief says “everything humanly possible” will be done to ensure the German club’s game against Monaco takes place safely after the suspected terror attack.

The local police force – Polizei Nordrhein-Westfalen Dortmund – held a joint late-night press conference along with the football club and the Dortmund public prosecutor.

Police chief Gregor Lange said: “This evening at 19.15pm there were three explosions in the surroundings of the BVB hotel.

“We must start from (the position this was) a targeted attack on BVB’s team.”

Dortmund police also revealed a letter had been found, claiming responsibility for the attack.

“The prosecutor’s office Dortmund confirms the discovery of a letter near the scene of the crime. The authenticity is currently being tested,” the police force posted on Twitter.

The match will now take place tonight with increased security measures in place.

“The stadium and the surrounding area remain the focal point for police,” added Lange.

“We’re preparing a major police presence for tomorrow and will do everything humanly possible to ensure the match can take place safely.”

The police earlier said in a statement that the explosives “may have been hidden in a hedge near a parking lot”.

Monaco fans left facing an extra night in Germany were offered accommodation by Dortmund fans via the hashtag #bedforawayfans on social media, while the club said on Twitter that all their supporters staying in Dortmund on Tuesday night would be reimbursed up to 80 euros (£68) by the club.

The French club added in a statement: “Faced with this difficult situation, AS Monaco wishes to express its full support to the Borussia Dortmund team and all the components of the club.”

Borussia Dortmund defender Marc Barta was the only player hurt in the blast

Goalkeeper Roman Burki was sitting at the back of the team bus alongside Bartra, and told Swiss newspaper website Blick how events unfolded.

He said: “We left the hotel at 7:15pm and went down the street. The bus turned down the main street, and there was a giant explosion.

“I was sitting in the back row next to Marc Bartra, who was hit by fragments of the broken glass.

“After the bang, we all ducked in the bus and those who could threw themselves to the ground. We did not know what had happened.

“The police were quick on the scene, and we were safe.

“We’re all shocked – nobody thought of a football match in this moment.”

Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke admitted the squad were shaken after 26-year-old Bartra, who arrived from Barcelona last summer, had to be taken to hospital.

He said in a statement: “An explosive strike on the bus was carried out immediately after the departure from the hotel.

“Three explosive devices were placed and triggered on the edge of the road.

“The whole team is in shock. We have to get through this. It will not be easy for the players. I hope that the team will somehow be able to return to the field.

“Borussia Dortmund is especially strong in extreme situations. Everyone will come even closer together and I’m sure the team will feel this.”

The decision to postpone was made after a meeting held at the stadium between European football’s governing body UEFA, representatives of the two clubs and local authorities.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin was “deeply disturbed” by events in Dortmund and backed the decision to reschedule the match.

He said in a statement: “I was deeply disturbed by the explosions which occurred in Dortmund. The decision taken to postpone the UEFA Champions League match between Borussia Dortmund and AS Monaco was the correct one since we must always prioritise the safety and security of all fans, team officials and players.”

The Dortmund players returned to their hotel last night following the explosions, before heading out for training again this morning.
