The Gold Coast Bulletin approached the 25-year-old tennis star on Wednesday evening at Sin City club while there with his girlfriend Emma Blake-Hahnel.

While Tomic initially declined to comment on the police investigation following the incident at The Bedroom, he confirmed he was in the club on Sunday evening in a VIP booth with around 20 others, some of whom he said he didn’t know. Tomic is not accused of any drink spiking.

Queensland Police are investigating allegations of drink spiking after Paige McCarthy, 21, was found passed out in the bathroom of the club where she used to work.

Her mother Lee posted a warning on Facebook saying: “WARNING: watch out for drink spiking. My daughter was drugged at a nightclub.”

“She wasn’t the only one [drugged]”, Lee said. “We have had several girls msg us with info and similar stories which is helping.”

There is no suggestion Mr Tomic was involved in the alleged drink spiking incident or was aware that it happened at the time.

When the Gold Coast Bulletin approached the tennis pro, he reportedly said: “I just made a million dollars for four days on I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here.

“I just bought another house. I’m buying everything on the Gold Coast …” he said, adding that he was hoping to get back on the tennis tour in the next month.

Bar staff also told the paper he never caused a problem while out.

“When he comes in, it’s actually quite good. He just stays up there (in a VIP booth) and does his own thing. He pays, he never gets out of line,” one worker said.

The Bedroom spokesman Matt Keegan said the club had handed over CCTV footage from the night to police but was yet to find any evidence of drink spiking taking place.

Tomic made headlines when he quit I’m a Celebrity after three nights on the show saying “I’ve never felt this bad in my life.”

“I thought I’d be super happy, camping for the first time, being around new people … Half the time during the day, I’m just depressed,” he said at the time.

“The US-led coalition, not the Russian Federation or Syrian Regime, is the only force that has made meaningful progress against [Daesh/ISIS],” the spokesman told the news agency.

Just before that announcement, French Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, also refused to acknowledge Moscow’s role in defeating IS, instead, accusing Russia of “appropriating” the US-led coalition victory.

“I sometimes find it a little surprising that Russia appropriates the victory against Daesh,” Le Drian told the BFMTV channel, adding, that the demise of IS came “thanks to the actions of the coalition.”

Earlier Wednesday, President Donald Trump praised himself and Secretary of Defense James Mattis for their achievements in bringing IS to its knees. “He’s knocked the hell out of them,” Trump boasted during a cabinet meeting. “Of course, I made it possible by what I let you do, right?” Trump lightheartedly asked Mattis.

Russia’s foreign ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, took note of the statements which significantly downplayed Moscow’s role, and ‘advised’ Western politicians to focus on their perceived successes in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya, where over the years, hundreds of thousands of people have been killed, infrastructure destroyed and vast numbers left in ruins.

“Our Western partners have been saying in the recent days that it was not Russia but them, the coalition, who defeated Islamic State in Syria,” Zakharova wrote on her Facebook page, especially calling out the Le Drian statement. “Dear Sirs, stop it! Your successes are in Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan. You should be proud of them,” she sarcastically pointed out.

Russia’s defense ministry also found it “strange” hearing from the French foreign minister that Moscow has somehow “awarded” itself the victory over ISIS.

“The defeat of IS in Syria is first of all result of actions by the Syrian leadership and governmental forces,” the ministry said. “With the support of the Russian Air Force, the Syrian armed forces liberated from IS terrorists hundreds of settlements and returned under control of the legitimate leadership practically the entire territory of the country.”

Russia began providing military support to Syria following an official request from Damascus in 2015 to prevent the terrorists from completely overrunning the country. Russia’s help allowed the Syrian Arab Army to turn the tide and liberate large swathes of the country previously occupied by the jihadists. Smashing the blockade of Deir ez-Zor, the terrorists last stronghold in eastern Syria, represented a turning point in this year’s campaign against the terrorists, ultimately leading to their demise.

The US coalition, meanwhile, Russia’s defense ministry stated, was only able to accomplish a so-called ‘liberation’ of Raqqa, with that ‘victory’ coming through a complete destruction of the city. The coalition also impeded Syrian government forces, conducting direct air strikes on their positions in Deir ez-Zor, the ministry said.

“In three years of its presence in Syria, the coalition only recently achieved its first ‘result’ in the fight against Daesh by destroying Raqqa along with civilians,” the ministry said. “That is why, if there is any positive role of the international coalition in defeating Daesh in Syria, it is only that it did not manage to destroy other Syrian cities with its carpet bombing, like it did with Raqqa.”

Surprising as it may be to the US, their staunch NATO ally Turkey is listing the American-made warplanes and missiles it says are vulnerable to the Russian-made S-400 SAMs it has just bought.

An infographic published on Wednesday by the state-run Turkish news agency Anadolu details the components of an S-400 battalion and the system’s capabilities. Half of the picture shows aircraft the system “can eliminate”.

Those include the bombers B-52 Stratofortress and B-1 Lancer, as well as the E-3 Sentry, better known as AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System). The list also includes half-a-dozen US-made fighter jets and support aircraft, including the advanced F-22 Raptor and the E-2 Hawkeye flying radar, and two kind of tactical missiles – the Tomahawk cruise missile, and an unspecified ballistic missile.

Turkey is in the process of acquiring the S-400 system from Russia, much to the chagrin of its NATO allies. The publicity seems to imply that Turkey needs the system to defend against countries that have such aircraft in their air forces. Those would be US and its allies, among them Turkey’s neighbors Israel, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf kingdoms.

NATO and individual allies, including the US, criticized Turkey for choosing a long-range air defense system made in Russia instead of one produced by the organization’s members, such as the US-made Patriot PAC-3. They said the S-400 lacked interoperability and compatibility with NATO weapon systems.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan rebuked the critics, saying he was thinking of Turkey’s safety first, and highlighting times when NATO allies failed Turkey in that regard.

“What do you expect? Should we wait for you? We take care of ourselves in every security point. We are taking precautions and we will continue to do so,” he said.

Ankara seems to be increasingly distant from other NATO members over a number of issues. It has a rift with the US over Washington’s support in Syria and Iraq of Kurdish militias, viewed in Ankara as a major threat to Turkey. The US also refused the Turkish government’s demands for the extradition of the cleric Fethullah Gülen, accused by Turkey of masterminding an attempted military coup last year.

Turkey is also at odds with western European nations, notably Germany, which accuse the county of abusing human rights and moving towards becoming a dictatorship. Turkish and European officials have traded sharp insults over the past year.

AN ENCORE for Usain Bolt? Unthinkable.

A loss in his going-away party? Impossible.

Track’s fastest man and greatest entertainer made both those points clear Tuesday leading to his final world championships this week. It was an engaging hour filled with reminisces, chats about his plans and thoughts about where his troubled and soon-to-be-starless sport might be headed.

Sporting the goatee he wears during world championships, but not the Olympics, the superstar who went 9 for 9 at the Summer Games, shattering records while dancing and smiling his way through the journey, dispensed any notion he might come back: “For me, the next championships should be fun because now it’s time to watch and see who can hold their nerves,” said the 11-time world champion, who turns 31 on Aug. 21.

As for the possibility he’d change his mind should he lose in Saturday night’s 100-metre final: “It’s not going to happen, so we won’t have that problem. Don’t worry,” he said.

He said he’s looking forward to a life of motivational speaking, occasional soccer games with friends and maybe dipping his toe into action movies to keep the adrenaline flowing.

As for the past, one of Bolt’s most interesting revelations was that his now- famous “To the World” pose, which he debuted after winning his first Olympic gold medal in Beijing, was completely unplanned.

“It’s just something that happened,” Bolt said. “I guess it was by the grace of God. It became big. For me, it worked.”

Almost every celebration since — the moderator said Bolt has taken 147 victory laps over his career — has been pre-planned, drenched in Jamaican flags and reggae music and every bit worth the wait. Among the few impromptu moments came at the last world championships, two years ago in Beijing, when a photographer riding a Segway accidentally up-ended him during his victory lap. That man made a videotaped appearance at the news conference and told Bolt: “You inspired me to become more focused in my work.” “It was shocking,” said Bolt, who popped right back up after the spill. “I didn’t get hurt, so it was funny.”

On a more serious note, he was asked how he has prepared for each season as his career has progressed. Like flipping through the calendar, Bolt ticked off his goals and motivations for each year since he burst onto the scene in 2008, a relative unknown whose only goal was to become an Olympic champion in his main race, the 200 metres.

Early on, he took umbrage to the slights: for instance, that despite setting four world records, his success in 2008 came because his main challenger, Tyson Gay, was hurt. Or how in 2012, many were favouring teammate Yohan Blake at the Olympics after Bolt lost to him twice earlier in the summer in Jamaica. As the calendar kept turning and Bolt kept proving himself, his mission became more about trying to secure his place in history. When he swept gold for the third straight Olympics last year in Rio de Janeiro, he reached the legendary status he sought.

“Now that I got to my goal, I’m good with it,” he said. “I’ve proven myself.”

He fielded the obligatory questions about doping. Bolt has never been caught. Many in his country, and in the sprint game he dominates, have. The last two years have been filled with sordid stories of doping corruption in Russia that brought track and field to a new low.

“The only place track and field has to go is up,” Bolt said. “Hopefully we’re going to get it going in the right direction and continue going in the right direction.”

His most telling comments — or non-comments — came when he was asked who might fill his shoes after he leaves.

“I’m not going down that road,” Bolt said. “The last guy I said was going to be great disrespected me.” It was almost certainly a reference to Andre De Grasse, the Canadian up-and- comer who brazenly pushed Bolt last year in the Olympic 200 meter semi-finals. If there’s going to be drama in Saturday’s 100 final, De Grasse is the best bet to provide it.

But Bolt doesn’t see that as a problem.

“You guys know if I show up at a championship, you know I’m fully confident and ready to go,” he said.

He unveiled the gold-and-purple shoes he’ll wear for his final championships. The purple is for his school colours back home at William Knibb Memorial High School. The gold is self-explanatory.

His sponsor, Puma, has been promoting the phrase “Fastest Forever,” in the lead- up to the worlds, which will take place in the same London stadium where Bolt won Olympic medals 4, 5 and 6.

But Bolt has a different idea.

“Unbeatable,” he said. “For me, that would be the biggest headline. Unbeatable. Unstoppable. Hear that guys? Jot it down.”
