The Morning Watch is a recurring feature that highlights a handful of noteworthy videos from around the web. They could be video essays, fanmade productions, featurettes, short films, hilarious sketches, or just anything that has to do with our favorite movies and TV shows.
In this edition, check out some bloopers from all the way back in the first season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Plus, Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda get together with James Corden to perform 22 musical in just 12 minutes, and Rebel Wilson recreates some romantic comedies with Liam Hemsworth.
With Brooklyn Nine-Nine heading to NBC for their sixth season, the network really wants to show how much fun the series can be, so they’ve posted a blooper reel from way back in the first season of the series for some laughs. Make sure you watch the action-packed trailer for the new season over here.
Next up, you can see Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda in Mary Poppins Returns in theaters right now, but before that you can see them get musical along with James Corden to perform a run of 22 musicals in just 12 minutes on The Late Late Show. They even tackle the original Mary Poppins and Into the Woods.
Finally, Rebel Wilson stars in the meta romantic comedy Isn’t It Romantic, which parodies the genre itself. But before that, you can see them spoof some iconic scenes from romantic comedies like When Harry Met Sally and Love Actually with co-stars Liam Hemsworth and Adam DeVine (via Vanity Fair).

Mary Poppins Returns is going to sing and dance its way into movie theaters in just a few days, and Disney has unveiled another new clip that shows why Emily Blunt is truly the perfect person to take on this classic role.
Oh, and there’s also a featurette about Mary Poppins’ cousin Topsy, who’s played by Meryl Streep. It goes without saying that Streep is an acting legend, but (*whispers*) she’s kind of terrible in this movie! See for yourself below.
This clip takes place early in the movie when Mary arrives at the Banks’ house and begins to look after Michael’s young children. Like the rest of the movie, it’s very clearly meant to evoke a scene from the original; in this case, it’s the scene in which Julie Andrews’ version of the character uses magic to get the kids to clean up their room. Here, Blunt gamely steps up and charms her way through the intro to “Can You Imagine That?” – she has a beautiful singing voice, but anyone who saw Into the Woods, her previous collaboration with director Rob Marshall, knew that already.
For me, the aspect that really makes her stand out are the tiny mannerisms she adopts to give the character some attitude. Watch the way she looks one of the children up and down at the :05 mark. Or her smile at :29 showing that Mary genuinely enjoys using these magical abilities. It’s that mixture of attitude and sincerity that makes her the best (and maybe the only) fit for this role.
In stark contrast to Blunt’s wonderful performance is Streep’s work as Topsy, whom she plays with a vaguely Eastern European accent. These two videos are surprisingly representative of the movie as a whole: the “Can You Imagine That?” clip is a good example of how an actor’s natural charisma and take on a character can briefly overrule the sense that we’ve seen all of this before, while Streep’s Topsy is too eccentric for her own good, a collection of scarves and tics that never coalesces into a believable person. (The character originated in the P.L. Travers novels, but was gender-swapped for this movie.) To watch her in this movie is to be constantly reminded of Ed Wynn‘s Uncle Albert from the first movie, the character who floats across his apartment because he loves to laugh. Sorry, Streep stans – she simply isn’t given the ammunition in either songs or dialogue to be able to measure up here.
Mary Poppins Returns arrives in theaters on December 19, 2018. You can read our full review here.

Great British Bake Off began its life on the BBC and quickly became an institution with comedy duo Mel and Sue Perkins as presenters.
The show’s judges completed the team with national treasure Mary Berry and celebrity baker Paul Hollywood.
Yet when the series was bought by Channel 4 in an auction two years ago things rapidly changed.
Mel and Sue jumped ship together, and were quickly followed by Mary, all claiming their loyalties lay with the BBC.
Paul insisted he loved his job too much to give it up, and was later joined by comedians Sandi Toksvig, Noel Fielding and South African chef Prue Leith for the series’ reboot last year.
In scenes set to air on Saturday’s edition of the Jonathan Ross Show on ITV, Mel admitted she hasn’t kept up with the show and her old colleague Paul.
Asked whether she was tuning in to the latest series, which features early favourites Manon Lagreve and Rahul Mandal, she said: “No I haven’t [watched it]. I feel bad!”
“Not at all!” the host then confessed, addressing whether she regretted leaving the hugely-popular ratings monster.
Mel, 50, has previously said her decision to quit the Great British Bake Off was so easy it only took her “three seconds”, after being told it would no longer air on the BBC.
Despite this, it’s been bittersweet for those that departed the show, and Mel in particular misses the cast and crew.
“I think there was no question where we were heading,” she told Press Association last year. “But I miss the gang… we were like a big family.
“All the camera guys, the sound guys, home economists behind the scenes, so knowing a lot of them are there filming as we speak, it feels kind of strange.”
Saturday’s Jonathan Ross will also see Mel talk honestly about her age and choices going forward towards the next phase of her life.
“I don’t like it when people lie about their age,” she stated. “I think if you’re 50 you just ruddy say it. I am 50.”
The Light Lunch host continued: “I’ve had a really brilliant idea, it came to me the other week… We are all getting older, I’m going to get all of my friends to join in a commune.
“We’re going to sell our properties, live in a commune, hire some very hot carers and then all see each other out in a commune.
“Wouldn’t that be fun!… It’s like shuffling off your mortal coil. Dying. To see each other out in your older years…
“Jonathan, you are very much warmly invited as well… It’s the way forward. I’m talking about twenty years time,” she added with a giggle.
The Jonathan Ross Show airs on Saturday at 9.15pm on ITV, and Great British Bake Off continutes tonight at 8pm on Channel 4.

After a first term where trips to Latin America were dominated by criticism of the US’s Cuba policy, the Obama administration decided to pursue better ties with its long-isolated Caribbean neighbor after winning a second term.
In June 2013, White House deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes and Ricardo Zuniga, the top White House staff member on Latin America and a Cuba expert, met with Cuban officials — including Raul Castro’s son — for the first time.See the rest of the story at Business Insider

A Quiet Place movie: Is Emily Blunt married to John Krasinski? Did he direct the movie?
The American horror film, A Quiet Place, stole the hearts of audiences last month, receiving critical acclaim.
Earning rave reviews from critics, the film centres on a post-apocalyptic world in which monsters hunt the smallest of sounds, destroying anything they find on the way.
John Krasinski, actor and director, and Emily Blunt, star as a parent duo, desperately trying to survive with their three children in a silent world, communicating only through sign language.
With a budget of just $ 17 million, the film has raked in more than $ 235 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.
A sequel is reportedly “in the works” but will Emily Blunt star and will John Krasinski direct?
Formerly of The Office US fame, John Krasinski takes his turn behind and in front of the camera for A Quiet Place.
Transforming from everyday nice guy, Jim Halpert in The Office, Krasinski plays a hardened family man trying to protect his pregnant wife and three children in a world taken over by noise hunting monsters.
Krasinski also directs the film in his third take in the directors chair.
His previous two directorial films, Brief Interviews with Hideous Men (2009) and The Hollars (2016), failed to stand out in box office numbers, but A Quiet Place has seen an incredibly successful debut.
The film made $ 19 million on its first day, increasing weekend projections to $ 47 million.
Unlike most horror films, which typically do better on a Friday and suffer drops the rest of the weekend, A Quiet Place made $ 19.1 million on Saturday.
It went on to debut to $ 50.2 million, topping the box office and marking the biggest opening for a Paramount film since Star Trek Beyond in July 2016.

It was also the second biggest domestic debut of 2018, behind Black Panther.
The film made $ 32.9 million in its second weekend, dropping 34 percent (better than the 50+ percent that horror films normally see) and finishing second at the box office, behind newcomer Rampage ($ 35.7 million).
That represents the sixth-best ever second weekend for a scary movie, behind Jurassic World, It, Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, The Mummy Returns, and I Am Legend, and the best second weekend for a scary movie that wasn’t a sequel or based on a book.

John Krasinski starred his wife, Emily Blunt in his film
The second star of the film, British actress Emily Blunt, 25, plays the pregnant wife of Krasinski’s, struggling to come to terms with the prospect of bringing a child into the world without making a sound.
In real life, Blunt and Krasinski, 38, have been married for eight years, and are also parents to two daughters, Hazel, 4, and Violet, 22 months.
Krasinski said: “I’ve never have loved my wife more than after we did this movie. For me, it was a trust thing. We trust each other in day-to-day life for sure, but when you trust each other in this way it’s different.”

For a movie about the importance of keeping very, very silent, A Quiet Place is making a huge noise at the global box office on its opening weekend.
The indie screamer only cost $ 17million to make and has already turned a whopping profit in its first two days on release.
A Quiet Place easily took the top spot at the US box office with a massive $ 50miliion and added another $ 21million around the world.
It is a spectacular result and means talk is already turning to the sequel.
The movie was a labour of love for husband and wife stars Blunt and John Krasinski, who also directed.
However it was actually nurtured for over ten years by screenwriters Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, ever since they first conceived the idea back at college.
Once the movie finally made it into production, it became a taught and pared-down intimate movie, which was a result of the desire to tell a truly claustrophic story but also reflected their budgetary constrictions.
The jubilant pair revealed that has all changed now.
Once the decision was made to focus on just one family of four terrorised by carniverous aliens in an isolated setting, the screenwriting pair realised they should hold back some of their most exciting, broader and more expensive ideas.
Beck and Woods told Movie Web: “We have so many scary ideas that just didn’t even make it into the final script, let alone the final movie, but just written, we would love to see this sequence. Some sequences that were just quite frankly too expensive to even do in this movie.”
But will Blunt be back?
A QUIET PLACE: EMILY BLUNT MADE HER HUSBAND FIRE THE ORIGINAL ACTRESS
Beck added: “I just don’t know what the title would be. A Quieter Place?
“I think at this point there’s multiple universes that it could go in to be completely honest. I think you could continue down one path that’s very obvious, or you could spin off into a completely unexpected direction. Which is certainly always interesting for us. The uncharted territory of filmmaking is always where you find the best inspiration.”
Thrilling as it sounds to expand the concept it sounds more like they are tinking of investigating new scenarios with different protagonists.
A spoonful of sugar will probably help future Mary Poppins Emily Blunt cope with the news…
A QUIET PLACE IS OUT NOW IN CINEMAS
Married couple John Krasinski and Emily Blunt can currently be seen together in the creepy A Quiet Place, but in an alternate dimension, both would be appearing together in Avengers: Infinity War later this month. Both actors nearly joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the past, but lost out on their respective roles. Recently, the actors revealed they’re not bothered by their missed Marvel opportunities. More on John Krasinski and Emily Blunt in the MCU below.
In some alternate universe, Emily Blunt is the MCU’s Black Widow, and her husband John Krasinski is Captain America. I’m pretty happy with Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans in those roles, respectively, but I can’t help but wonder, “What if?” What if Gulliver’s Travels hadn’t kept Blunt from taking the Black Widow part, and what if Krasinski had beat out Evans to take up Captain America’s shield? We’ll never know the answers to these hypotheticals, but it’s fun to wonder.
Krasinski and Blunt, however, seem perfectly happy to have not found their way into the MCU. Yahoo Movies spoke to the duo about their missed MCU opportunities, and both seemed pretty chill about the whole thing. For Blunt’s part, she said not being in the MCU has enabled her to take other projects she’s really enjoyed:
“I don’t think I would have been able to do a lot of projects that I’ve loved doing. I think that was a nerve-wracking prospect for me to not be able to choose, and the choices I have are often all I have, so you can’t really plan for anything else. You can’t predict what’s going to happen, what’s going to catch fire and what’s not, so if I make the choice for me, and not because I’m contracted I think that’s an exciting prospect.”
Krasinski agreed, and added that if he were part of the MCU, he probably never would’ve had the chance to make A Quiet Place:
“I think A Quiet Place definitely wouldn’t exist. There are benefits, and Chris Evans seems to be having a wonderful time. I love Chris, I’ve been a friend of his for a while. Those movies are so much fun and I love watching them, I tell him I’m first in line to see his new movies. It’s that zen thing of let life take you where it may and I never would have been here if I had gotten Captain America. I never thought about that, you just broke my brain.”
Signing up for the MCU is clearly a commitment. Joaquin Phoenix reportedly turned down the role of Doctor Strange because he just didn’t like the idea of being attached for multiple movies. So I can certainly see the point of the argument that Krasinski and Blunt would’ve been unable to do several other projects had they ended up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And perhaps it’s all for the best. Blunt has forged her own path, with Edge of Tomorrow turning her into a bonafide ass-kicker. And A Quiet Place is earning Krasinski rave reviews, proving that maybe it was his fate to become a horror filmmaker all along.

The 35-year-old actress was initially reluctant to star in A Quiet Place.
Speaking on The Graham Norton Show last night Blunt said: “I actually didn’t want to do it to begin with.
“I’d just had our second baby and I’d done Mary Poppins so was in a state of joy.”
“But when I read the script, I really wanted to do it.”
Blunt continued: “John had already approached another actress – a good friend of mine – so I told him he had to ring her and sack her! Luckily we are still friends.”
Norton asked if Krasinski was nervous about working with his A-list wife.
He joked: “I was terrified, I’d never been on a set when she was working. I’d heard she was a diva.”
The film has been met with critical acclaim and so far has 97% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
The critical consensus reads: “A Quiet Place artfully plays on elemental fears with a ruthlessly intelligent creature feature that’s as original as it is scary – and establishes director John Krasinski as a rising talent.”
A Quiet Place is out now.
