Speaking about the protests in other parts of the UK, Kay asked: “There have been protests in other parts of the UK, some of the large protests but none of them have descended that this has in Bristol, now three times. What is it about what’s happening in Bristol or maybe what is it about the way you’re policing it, that’s causing it to end in a different way there?”

Hitting back Supt Runacres replied: “I wouldn’t agree with that Jon. We have a long history of effectively facilitating protests in Bristol, we’ve done that extremely effectively.

“We’ve gained great support from the local community in Bristol around working together with them to facilitate protests.

“It’s something we pride ourselves on and the city prides itself on. On Sunday we ran what we believe to be a proportionate policing operation to facilitate any gathering that happened.

“The numbers that came on Sunday far exceeded those that we expected and there were clearly some amongst that group who had the intent of causing or using violence against the police and that unfortunately set the tone for that evening.”

Manifest Crisis: Is Michaela to Blame for Things Going ‘Horribly Wrong’? https://briefnews.eu/manifest-crisis-is-michaela-to-blame-for-things-going-horribly-wrong/ https://briefnews.eu/manifest-crisis-is-michaela-to-blame-for-things-going-horribly-wrong/#respond Tue, 31 Mar 2020 06:39:43 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/manifest-crisis-is-michaela-to-blame-for-things-going-horribly-wrong/

As NBC’s Manifest laid the groundwork for next week’s Season 2 finale, there was a lovely wedding, yes, but there would be no honeymoon for Michaela, whose decision to blow off a calling arguably has had disastrous consequences.

As Josh Dallas reminds TVLine, “What Ben has come to realize, particularly after that episode where Grace almost died, is that what what we have to do is follow the callings. He says it to Grace — we have to follow the callings, because that’s where the answers lie.”

Michaela, however, ignored a calling to “let him go” when she tracked down Jace Taylor and his two meth lab buddies (aka the three shadow figures). If she hadn’t cuffed and arrested them, they might have been inside their meth lab when it later blew up. Instead, they were fruitlessly interrogated at the cop shop, before orchestrating their escape from a prison transport. That night, after Mick and Zeke pulled away in their “Just Married!” car to spend the groom’s final, pre-Death Date days together, Jace & Co. sneaked up on Cal in his front yard and grabbed the lad. Moments later, Jace called Mick to deliver an ultimatum: “Get us back our stash, or we bury your nephew!”

Once looped in at the start of the Monday, April 6 finale, Ben’s reaction to Cal’s abduction “is not going to be good, let me tell you,” warns Dallas. “Michaela had a calling to follow and she didn’t, and things start to go horribly wrong. Horribly wrong. And this is where you’re going to see a great tension” between brother and sister.

As if him and Grace worrying about their kidnapped son wasn’t enough, Ben this week also started to have the most harrowing calling yet, of Flight 828 exploding in the night sky. (Was that hinting at the meth lab explosion, or something else?) Saanvi meanwhile made bold moves to make Vance resurface, suspecting as she does that the Major was behind her abrupt job termination. Vance affirmed as much, saying that the Major has made inroads on Saanvi’s stolen research, and thus needs her out of the mix. Saanvi, though, has no intention of hiding. Rather, she is rarin’ to go after the Major!

Meghan Markle outrage: Duchess defended over ‘Meghan blame’ – ‘Taking it out of context!’ https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-outrage-duchess-defended-over-meghan-blame-taking-it-out-of-context/ https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-outrage-duchess-defended-over-meghan-blame-taking-it-out-of-context/#respond Mon, 24 Feb 2020 09:33:02 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-outrage-duchess-defended-over-meghan-blame-taking-it-out-of-context/

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry last week issued a lengthy statement in which they outlined the new system they will adopt once they quit the Royal Family, confirming they will not be making use of the Sussex Royal brand after their departure. Royal biographer Tom Bower accused the Duchess of Sussex of infusing the statement with “spiteful fury” aimed at the Queen over the brand and of being “rude” to Her Majesty. But Good Morning Britain contributor Afua Adom hit back at the biographer accusing his of taking the statement “out of context” and contributing to a campaign of “Meghan bashing.”

Ms Adom said: “I think what is spiteful in this instance is the way this whole statement has been interpreted.

“No other part of the statement has been talked about where Harry talked about the work he is going to continue doing on the armed services and the Invictus Games.

“Nobody is talking about the fact they said they want to remain working with the Royal Family, with the Queen but they are not going to do that.

“It would be spiteful if they said they are going to use the term royal anyway – it was a statement, it was very, very factual. There was no emotion in there.”

She added: “People are taking things that they say out of context, blaming solely on Meghan as per usual as people have continuously done over this whole thing, assuming it’s all Meghan as if Harry is weak-willed, assuming she’s somehow ruling him and all-powerful.

“On Friday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed they will not be using the Sussex Royal brand while remarking neither the Queen nor other members of the Royal Family have exclusive rights to use the term “royal.”

The statement read: “While there is not any jurisdiction by The Monarchy or Cabinet Office over the use of the word ‘Royal’ overseas, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not intend to use ‘Sussex Royal’ or any iteration of the word ‘Royal’ in any territory (either within the UK or otherwise) when the transition occurs Spring 2020.”

The Duke and Duchess have spent the past month living in Canada with their son Archie. Meghan and Harry are expected to settle down in the Commonwealth country for the time being but sources close to the royals suggested they have also been seeking a house in Los Angeles.

The couple have been spotted crossing the border into the US to attend a private JP Morgan conference in Miami earlier this month, during which Prince Harry delivered a speech.

They later travelled to Meghan’s native California to hold meetings with officials at Stanford University’s Palo Alto campus over their plans for their future charitable endeavours.

RELATED STORIES

NBC’s Manifest took flight again this Monday night, revealing the outcome of Jared and Zeke’s “gun fight” before dropping a couple of bombshells on Ben.

MAN ON THE RUN | Season 1 left off with Jared lunging at a gun-waving Zeke, and the gents fighting over the firearm before a shot rang out. It turns out that Michaela, who was arriving on the scene at the time, took the wayward bullet. As she bled on the floor after, she urged trigger man Zeke to “run,” which he did. It was touch-and-go for Michaela once at the hospital, but she pulled through surgery — after which, Saanvi told Jared that he was not welcome to see the patient. Instead, Mick is visited by Ben, who looped his sis in on the “death date” situation, and Cal, who like his aunt shared a new “nightmare” in which 828 was in a nosedive. Seated beside Mick during that unreal crisis, Cal urged her to “save the passengers.” But what does that mean?

BABY TALK | Flash forward two months and Ben has been trying to “save the passengers” by scoping out their homes and possible threats (such as a mysterious unmarked van). After checking in with Saanvi, Ben takes Grace for her 14-week sonogram, during which he discovers that she was pregnant while he was “away,” but miscarried. (With Ben and Cal “dead,” she had holes in her life, Grace explained, and Danny always wanted kids….) Speaking of Danny, there is some debate about whether to tell him about Grace’s new pregnancy (for which he could be responsible), but she and Ben agree to hold off for six months or so. Back at the house, they share their news with a joyous Mick, Olive and the rest. Later, though, Grace and Olive bump into Danny, and Grace is conspicuously mum about her pregnancy. Having realized that Danny could be the father, Olive storms off, angry that nothing in their lives is simple anymore.

Manifest Season 2, Episode 1WHAT’S SHAKING? | Returning to the cop shop early, Michaela is met with some side-eye (…and loads more to come next week) by her new boss, Captain Bowers, when she asks that the hunt for Zeke be called off. When Mick gives Jared a very cold shoulder, she explains to her ex that she blames his obsession with Zeke for her getting shot. She then notices two names on the Missing Persons board, Anton and Trina Vasik, that match passengers from Ben’s research — at which point both she and Cal, who is back home, start shaking. Conferring with Ben, and then visiting the Vasik kids who are being watched over by a neighbor lady, the Stones realize that Anton and Trina up and vanished a few nights ago. The neighbor shows Ben and Mick the cellar where the Vasiks had papered the walls with Bible verses, including one about being “cast into the lake of fire.”

SAANVI OVERSHARES | Dr. Ragier (aka The Major) suggests to Saanvi that she has special feelings for Ben, given that all they have been through — a fact that Saanvi unconvincingly disputes. In a later session, Dr. Ragier attests that Saanvi should no longer pay, out of pocket, for her services if she is going to hold back on all of her stressors. Saanvi agrees to go, but turns heel at the doorway to share, “Something happened to us on that plane….”

FAUX, CANADA | Though Zeke seemingly sent Mick a postcard from Canada, Cal (thanks to a new drawing) finds him camped out in his mother’s apartment, sporting a full ol’ beard. Cal insists that Zeke and Mick belong together, but Zeke argues that Mick nearly died because of him. Cal then explains the “death dates,” and how Zeke might not have much time. Later, Michaela bumps into a cleaned-up Zeke, who has called the cops on himself and is ready to surrender, despite her protests. “I wish I met you some other way, some other time,” Zeke says. Michaela grabs him, triggering another shaky calling in which she glimpses a commuter bridge and a yellow Pontiac. That leads her and Ben to an entirely fictional overlook by the George Washington Bridge, where the Vasiks are preparing to drive their car off the cliff.

Ben explains to an anxious Anton that many 828ers are having “callings,” and that they aren’t bad things. Anton hits the gas, but stops short when Mick steps in front of him. Standing there, Mick looks down and notices that a different car had already slid down the cliffside. Inside that car is a family, and the father had fallen asleep at the wheel. The Vasiks’ “calling” saved those people, Ben explains. Arriving on the scene, Captain Bowers is curious about Michaela’s latest “tip,” and her claim that Zeke helped solve this missing persons case.

ALIVE AND KICKING | That night, Ben is taking out the trash when he spies the same white van that was parked outside the Vasik home. Hollering at the vehicles’ unseen inhabitants, Ben starts rapping on the window when someone grabs-and-bags him from behind, then lobs him into the back. When the hood is later lifted and Ben is uncuffed, he is shocked to see that he is sitting across from… Vance! “You’re not the only one who can come back from the dead,” grins the old frenemy.

Grand Hotel Reveals the Truth About Javi’s Accident — Who’s to Blame? https://briefnews.eu/grand-hotel-reveals-the-truth-about-javis-accident-whos-to-blame/ https://briefnews.eu/grand-hotel-reveals-the-truth-about-javis-accident-whos-to-blame/#respond Tue, 06 Aug 2019 09:00:19 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/grand-hotel-reveals-the-truth-about-javis-accident-whos-to-blame/

It’s been the (second) biggest mystery plaguing Grand Hotel fans all season: How did the show’s resident playboy lose one of his legs? After Monday’s revealing hour, we finally have our answer.

Until now, we’ve only been given vague hints as to what caused Javi’s accident. All we really knew going into Monday’s episode was that Santiago blamed himself for the tragic event.

And speaking of tragic events, it was Javi’s latest brush with death (via last week’s hotel collapse) that triggered Santiago’s memories of his son’s life-changing accident all those years ago.

Ready? Here’s the story: When Santiago started dating Gigi after Beatriz’s death, Javi immediately lashed out, furious with him for moving on so quickly. And with one of her friends, no less. After a night of heavy drinking — mind you, Javi was still in high school — he told Santiago that he wishes it was him who died, rather than Beatriz.

This was the last straw for Santiago, who not only kicked his drunk son out of his house, but handed him the keys to his car, which Javi crashed, resulting in an accident so severe that it required the amputation of his leg.

Were you surprised by Javi’s tragic backstory, or had you already pieced it together? And what are your thoughts on Grand Hotel’s other lingering mysteries? Drop ’em all in a comment below.

Coronation Street spoilers: Carla Connor to blame for deadly factory collapse? https://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-carla-connor-to-blame-for-deadly-factory-collapse/ https://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-carla-connor-to-blame-for-deadly-factory-collapse/#respond Tue, 26 Feb 2019 08:35:37 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-carla-connor-to-blame-for-deadly-factory-collapse/

Coronation Street will air a horrific incident when the Underworld factory’s roof will collapse.

This accident will lead to the death of a major character, and fans are already desperately trying to figure out who’s it going to be.

There are multiple theories suggesting who might be to blame for the roof collapsing.

It’s thought that Gary Windass (played by Mikey North) or Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) could be to blame for the incident.

It’s now been heavily suggested that Carla Connor (Alison King) could be behind the roof collapsing.

These scenes will air on the ITV soap next week as she asks builder Gary to help fix a leak in the ceiling of the Weatherfield factory.

Gary agrees and then discovered that there’s a lot more to fix than just a leak.

He informs her that the roof needs a lot more work and even suggests that it needs replacing.

However, Carla doesn’t want to fork out the cash to replace the roof.

She also thinks that Gary is just trying to get more money out of her and she’s not willing to pay him too much.

Gary will eventually return to the factory and tells her that he’s employed another person to help him fix the roof.

Carla won’t be too pleased with this news and informs him that she doesn’t want the whole roof until it’s really necessary.

It does seem as though Carla could have easily prevented the tragic accident which will take the life of at least one major character.

It hasn’t been revealed yet whether Gary does attempt to fix the roof before the collapse, so he could still be directly responsible for the accident.

That said, it does seem as though Carla’s unwillingness to pay for the roof to be fixed properly will be at least partially to blame for what’s to come.

China will blame TikTok-like video apps for their users’ content https://briefnews.eu/china-will-blame-tiktok-like-video-apps-for-their-users-content/ https://briefnews.eu/china-will-blame-tiktok-like-video-apps-for-their-users-content/#respond Mon, 14 Jan 2019 05:51:07 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/china-will-blame-tiktok-like-video-apps-for-their-users-content/

China’s growing crackdown on internet media now includes some tight limits on short-form video apps like TikTok. Recently imposed guidelines make app creators responsible for the content their users post, and ask platforms to review every bit of content — no mean feat when TikTok alone has roughly 150 million users in China.

There’s a lot of potential reasons for censorship, too. The Financial Times notes the guidelines ban 100 forms of content ranging from “money worship” and Taiwanese independence to oddly specific “chanting spells to change human destiny.”

The full policy on short video apps has yet to arrive, but this is expected to create significant headaches for app developers. They’ll not only need significantly larger staff counts to monitor their apps, they’ll have to worry about interpreting rules or the consequences of a video slipping through the cracks. What happens if there’s a disagreement in whether or not a video is objectionable, or a reviewer isn’t aware that something violates the rules? Not that the Chinese government is likely concerned — it’s determined to maintain control wherever possible, even in apps where politics aren’t normally a major topic.

Democrats & Republicans play blame game as Christmas shutdown looms https://briefnews.eu/democrats-republicans-play-blame-game-as-christmas-shutdown-looms/ https://briefnews.eu/democrats-republicans-play-blame-game-as-christmas-shutdown-looms/#respond Fri, 21 Dec 2018 20:59:36 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/democrats-republicans-play-blame-game-as-christmas-shutdown-looms/

With Democrats determined to vote against any funding for President Donald Trump’s border wall proposal and Trump refusing to sign a bill without it, the US government is heading for a shutdown right before Christmas.

Congress has until midnight on Friday to approve funding to keep the US government going. The Senate and the House initially approved a proposal, but Trump threatened to veto it because it contained no allocations for border security. The House then passed an amended continuing resolution, 217-185, but the Senate still needs to do so – and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York) vowed Trump will “never” get funding for the wall.

Trump blamed the Democrats.

Democrats point the finger of blame at Trump.

Senate Republicans argue the Democrats were once in favor of securing the border, and suggest they are being petulant because they hate Trump.

Cable news pundits have joined the Democrats’ chorus of condemnations, bemoaning the fact that some 800,000 federal employees won’t be getting their paychecks for Christmas, which the US observes next Tuesday.

It is unclear what effect the shutdown will have, however, as the federal government is already scheduled to close for Monday and Tuesday, due to the holiday. Federal employees who are deemed essential usually work through the shutdown and get paid whenever the impasse is resolved.

And Americans don’t need to worry about  the Washington grinches canceling Christmas, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) tweeted on Friday: their regular operation to track Santa Claus as he delivers presents will proceed as normal.
