As Nick detailed the progress being made on the house, he revealed Billy had also lost a daughter.

He remarked: “There’s a chimney being lined, the plumbing is well underway, bedrooms are taking shape and Billy’s keeping the electrics on track.

“For him, this family story feels very close to home.

“He too lost a daughter all too young and understands better than most how paralysing grief can be.”

Run Recap: Throw Billy From the Train https://briefnews.eu/run-recap-throw-billy-from-the-train/ https://briefnews.eu/run-recap-throw-billy-from-the-train/#respond Mon, 11 May 2020 06:47:40 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/run-recap-throw-billy-from-the-train/

Look before you leap is a proverb worth abiding by… unless someone steals your bag of cash and jumps off a train. Then, I guess you just gotta take the plunge!

The premise of Run hits a whole new level this week when Fiona, Billy’s former assistant, steals his money and blackmails Ruby with a recording of her and Billy’s sexcapade. On Sunday’s episode, running turns into chasing, and before the half-hour is through, the comedy takes a very dark turn.

We start with a flashback of Billy pitching his “run” story with Ruby before it actually happens. He’s speaking to a future book publisher, as Fiona records him on a phone. “Whatever happens next will be the premise of the new book deal you’re about to offer me.” Forward, yes, and also super shady. And manipulative.

In the present, seconds after Fiona bails out of the moving train, Ruby and Billy can’t stop screaming. Before they can agree on a plan, Ruby bites the bullet and dives off after her, forcing Billy to follow suit. Ruby’s adrenaline-filled reaction after surviving the jump is just one of the reasons why Merritt Wever is so fun to watch. That energy! That relatability! We’re here for it. (Wever’s prowess comes as no surprise; she recently received an Honorable Mention for TVLine’s Performer of the Week.)

The two see Fiona jogging across a field with the bag, and the chase is on! The duo spots a house in the middle of nowhere, and they knock before blatantly trespassing. They meander upstairs following a noise, where they find Fiona patching herself up in a bathroom. She’s got a knife and she’s still pretty dang cantankerous. After a scuffle, Fiona cuts Ruby’s finger and tries to escape, but when she drops the knife, Ruby recovers it.

Fiona throws the money out of a window and tries to dive out, but Billy stops her just as Laurence calls Ruby. She picks up, but tells him she has to call him back, despite his escalating fury. After a bit of a wrestling match, Fiona falls right out the window to her death, impaling herself on some hay bale spikes below. Ruby’s phone rings again and Laurence demands to know if she’s “with him.” She lies. He tells her he’ll pick her up on Friday, but when the two hang up, we see that Laurence already knows about the “run” texts.

Despite freaking out over Fiona’s dead body, Ruby convinces Billy to leave the scene without calling the authorities. They grab the money and skedaddle. Unbeknownst to them, a man flees out of the house’s front door. Apparently, he was inside the whole time!

As they make their getaway, day turns to night and they quickly find themselves lost. They meet a woman named Laurel (played by Fleabag‘s Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who also executive-produces), a local taxidermist who’s standing over a dead badger. She agrees to give them a lift if they’ll help her load the carcass in her van. Seems like a fair trade. (Sidebar: Thoughts on Waller-Bridge’s American accent, anyone?)

Laurel drives them to the nearest train station, where Ruby gives her a long embrace of gratitude. Once inside, Billy asks Ruby if she’s surprised herself by how she’s acted during all this. She nods. “Have I surprised you?” she asks in return. “I’m glad you’re here with me,” he says.

In the bathroom, Ruby accidentally dumps her bag and realizes she can’t find her phone. After she screams a gazillion F-bombs, Billy realizes they have to go back for it. The episode ends with both of them massively panicking, and Billy joining in on the profanity.

How else will Laurel fit into this madness? Will Ruby’s phone incriminate them both? Drop your theories in the Comments below!

RELATED STORIES

THE PERFORMER | Billy Porter

THE SHOW | Pose

THE EPISODE | “Love’s in Need of Love Today” (July 23, 2019)

THE PERFORMANCE | As the outrageous ball emcee on FX’s groundbreaking LGBTQ drama, Porter’s Pray Tell is the unofficial den mother for the entire ball community. But Pray Tell needed some support himself this week after a serious health scare, and Porter responded with a searing, show-stopping performance.

Pray Tell was rushed to the hospital after collapsing mid-ball and diagnosed with an adverse reaction to his AZT treatment, and Porter was sensational as a thousand intense emotions rushed across Pray Tell’s face in that hospital bed: fear, anger, vulnerability, defiance. (“I’m sick of not knowing how fast or how slow I’m going to go,” he said through gritted teeth.) After turning away those closest to him, Pray Tell was visited, A Christmas Carol-style, by spectral visions of Candy, his dead boyfriend Costas… and, most heartbreakingly, his late stepfather, as we learned Pray Tell had been sexually abused as a boy. It was a marathon of raw emotion, but Porter shined throughout, letting us see the battered heart that lies underneath Pray Tell’s flamboyant bravado.

If that weren’t enough, Porter delivered a pair of musical numbers, too: a silky-smooth rendition of “The Man That Got Away” in an extravagant fantasy sequence, and a triumphant duet of Stevie Wonder’s “Love’s in Need of Love Today” with Blanca at the AIDS cabaret. Pose has introduced us to a shocking amount of fresh talent that never got the proper spotlight — but as this week proved once again, Porter’s talent is absolutely transcendent.

Jane the Virgin Rose Bridget ReganHONORABLE MENTION | The highly prolific Bridget Regan has been deliciously evil for five seasons now as Jane the Virgin‘s criminal mastermind Rose (aka Sin Rostro), and she got a fittingly juicy send-off this week, as Rose popped up yet again to make Jane’s life miserable. Stroking Jane’s cat like a Bond villain, Rose coolly threatened to kill poor Mateo if Jane didn’t reunite her with Luisa, and Regan turned Rose’s usual mustache-twirling up to an 11, equal parts terrifying and hilarious. This was Rose’s swan song, though, as she took a swan dive and fatally impaled herself, so it’s nice that Regan got to give her meatiest performance yet as Rose before saying goodbye for good. We know Jane won’t miss seeing Rose lurk around every corner… but we will.

Younger RecapHONORABLE MENTION | Younger‘s Liza spending the weekend at an LSD micro-dosing retreat with flames past and present sounds as crazy as you’d expect, but Sutton Foster came through with the comedic timing (and dance moves) to pull it off. After getting settled, Liza literally takes a “happy” pill and promptly hallucinates. The next day, when she imagines that Charles and Josh have switched voices, Foster’s face is a convincing mix of shock, horror, and WTF as she leaves to get help. While with the nurse (another hallucination), Liza is high enough to believe she’s an amazing dancer. Foster channels her experience a Tony-winning performer as Liza effortlessly glides across the floor, then shows Liza’s drug-induced silliness when it’s revealed that she’s actually partnered with a plant. Foster continues to bring fresh energy six seasons in, and she does it by giving Liza a perfect dose of humor and charm.

Burden of Truth Peter MooneyHONORABLE MENTION | On this week’s Burden of Truth season finale, Peter Mooney took a small brotherly moment and turned it into one we won’t soon forget. As his character Billy watched his sibling’s mental health deteriorate, Mooney’s face subtly shifted from guilt at what he had to do to get his brother help to a look of fear and sorrow. “Shane, promise me you’ll take the meds,” Billy pleaded, Mooney’s eyes brimming with tears. When Shane proceeded to share his delusions and call Billy his protector, Mooney’s broken smile conveyed everything there was to know about how desperately Billy was trying to hold it all together and put on a brave face. In a series that’s often about how family can break your heart, Mooney broke ours with a piercing portrayal of a brother’s anguish.

Stranger Things season 3: Billy Hargrove unveiled as huge villain in leaked footage clue? https://briefnews.eu/stranger-things-season-3-billy-hargrove-unveiled-as-huge-villain-in-leaked-footage-clue/ https://briefnews.eu/stranger-things-season-3-billy-hargrove-unveiled-as-huge-villain-in-leaked-footage-clue/#respond Fri, 21 Jun 2019 01:36:56 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/stranger-things-season-3-billy-hargrove-unveiled-as-huge-villain-in-leaked-footage-clue/

Fans will remember in Stranger Things season two Will Byers (played by Noah Schnapp) became infected with a dangerous virus that was controlled by the Mind Flayer from the Upside Down.

The Mind Flayer was able manipulate him into doing what he wanted and was able to speak through him.

Eventually, the creature was exorcised from his body and he recovered from the virus.

Now, with the Mind Flayer set to return for Netflix’s season three, it appears Billy (Dacre Montgomery) may suffer a similar fate and become the season’s big villain.

Eagle-eyed viewers noticed that in the season three trailer Billy is looking at a huge black and blooded mark on his arm, symptomatic of a severe infection.

Now, another video clip has teased the fate set to be handed to Billy.

In leaked footage which aired on Australian morning show Sunrise, Billy has a huge moment that could change him forever.

The clip made its way onto Reddit and user Tetrini shared the scene to intrigue fans even further.

In the scene, a blissfully-unaware Billy drives his 1979 Camaro along the road and then suddenly something huge smacks against the car and sends him veering off the road.

He then crashes into Brimborn Steel Works, which has a hidden meaning.

Some fans may recollect seeing the factory teased in the Fourth of July season three poster, which was released by Netflix last month.

It shows Billy in front of the factory and both are under the shadow of a terrifying monster set to play its part in season three.

The factory appears to be derelict and decaying, hinting it could be riddled with the infection brought by the Mind Flayer.

Could Billy become infected after heading into the eerie-looking factory?

Co-creator Matt Duffer has previously teased a big storyline to come for Billy in season three to Vulture: “Billy was supposed to have a bigger role.

“There was a whole teen supernatural storyline that just got booted because it was just too cluttered, you know? A lot of that’s just getting kicked into season three.”

Meanwhile, Mike Wheeler star Finn Wolfhard has revealed: “The first season was more about the adventure aspect and kind of fun, the second season was more about the horror aspect.

“Season three is everything, like the fun of season one and the horror of season two and the Duffers have got better at it, at writing it.

“And we’ve become better actors.”

What’s more, Millie Bobby Brown has revealed a huge secret about Eleven’s superpower.

Stranger Things season three arrives July 4 on Netflix.

Billy Bush Plots TV Comeback After Infamous Access Hollywood Tape https://briefnews.eu/billy-bush-plots-tv-comeback-after-infamous-access-hollywood-tape/ https://briefnews.eu/billy-bush-plots-tv-comeback-after-infamous-access-hollywood-tape/#respond Wed, 08 May 2019 14:05:57 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/billy-bush-plots-tv-comeback-after-infamous-access-hollywood-tape/

Two-and-a-half years since a leaked Access Hollywood tape upended his career, Billy Bush is making a return to television.

The TV personality is set to host Extra Extra, a new iteration of the syndicated newsmagazine Extra that will air on Fox this fall. Per People, which first reported the news of Bush’s hiring, the show will feature a modernized set and an in-depth look at topics including pop culture, sports and politics.

Bush’s Extra Extra gig marks his first TV job since getting fired from Today in 2016, following the leak of a now-infamous Access Hollywood tape. The unearthed recording from 2005 featured Donald Trump and Bush engaging in a lewd conversation about groping and kissing women without their consent. At the time of the tape’s release, Bush said he was “embarrassed and ashamed” that he had “acted foolishly in playing along” with Trump.

He later told Late Show host Stephen Colbert that he had attended a soul-searching retreat in the wake of getting fired, acknowledging the “unbelievable irony” of losing his job while Trump went on to be elected president.

As he prepares to return to TV this fall, Bush told People that he “had the opportunity to grow up a little bit” after spending more than two years without a steady job.

“I own the moment. It was a bad moment. And I was in it,” Bush said. “But one moment doesn’t define your life… A good wallop on the side of the head makes you, changes you, and I’m a better version of the man I was.”

Extra Extra premieres Monday, Sept. 9 on Fox.

Emmerdale spoilers: Aaron Dingle and Ellis TEAM-UP over dangerous Billy Fletcher plot? https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-aaron-dingle-and-ellis-team-up-over-dangerous-billy-fletcher-plot/ https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-aaron-dingle-and-ellis-team-up-over-dangerous-billy-fletcher-plot/#respond Tue, 25 Dec 2018 23:11:13 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-aaron-dingle-and-ellis-team-up-over-dangerous-billy-fletcher-plot/

Emmerdale delivered an epic wedding day for Jessie (played by Sandra Marvin) and Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) complete with plenty of drama and blunders tonight.

Things started off awkward, with Marlon late to his own wedding after a monsterous hangover with his cousin Sam Dingle (James Hooton).

And while Marlon had the shock of his life finding out Jessie had planned the day as a surprise, the pair tied the knot in the one of the most emotional scenes for the ITV soap.

Both Jessie and Marlon finally got to relax as their live steel band got into a rhythm for a Caribbean-style reception, when Billy suddenly showed up to support his mother.

Fans had been convinced Billy was set to get out of prison in the new year, but in another completely unexpected twist, Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) was horrified to see the man he knew right in front of him.

“Billy? That’s my son!” a delighted Jessie cried, as Aaron and his husband Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) turned to see the commotion.

“What? This can’t be happening,” Aaron said to his partner.

“What you know him?” Robert asked, taken-aback.

“Yeah I know him,” Aaron said gravely. “He’s Billy Fletcher.

“He’s one of the scumbags that made my life hell in prison.”

As rage seemed to course through him, Aaron lunged forward as if to start a fight with the familiar face, but luckily Robert stopped him in time.

“Wait what are you doing? It’s Marlon’s wedding day!” Robert warned, clearly panicking about his husband’s state of mind.

Aaron could have a hellish time on the soap ahead, especially now Billy is officially part of his family.

But one fan predicted the reason Ellis (Asan N’Jie) has been circling closer to Aaron is so the pair can team up in a plot to take down Billy.

Will they get their revenge? Or will Jessie go to all lengths to protect her beloved son?

“And that’s why Ellis was placed at the scrapyard close to Aaron,” the viewer wrote. “Interesting twist, I like it.

“Can’t wait to see what the Aaron/Billy/Ellis dynamic will be. #Robron #Emmerdale.”

“Aw wow knew Billy had some connection to Aaron – his worst nightmare after putting the past in the past,” another viewer shared. “He best not cause him any harm cause this time he has Robert in his corner #robron #Emmerdale.”

A third posted: “@DannyBMiller OMG Billy’s actually one of Aaron’s Prison Bullies & their now kinda sorta family seriously? #Emmerdale.”

Emmerdale continues tomorrow at 7pm on ITV.

Performer of the Week: Billy Porter https://briefnews.eu/performer-of-the-week-billy-porter/ https://briefnews.eu/performer-of-the-week-billy-porter/#respond Sat, 30 Jun 2018 15:03:54 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/performer-of-the-week-billy-porter/ THE PERFORMER | Billy Porter

THE SHOW | Pose

THE EPISODE | “The Fever” (June 24, 2018)

THE PERFORMANCE | From the instant we laid eyes (and ears) on Pose’s Pray Tell — the boisterous emcee of the New York City ball scene, as depicted on the FX drama — we were enamored. Every exaggerated reaction and whip-smart critique drew us deeper into his orbit, not that we put up much of a fight.

But as the weeks continued, as the show began to gradually strip Pray Tell of his mystique, we found ourselves even more in awe of this complicated character brought to life with fierce conviction by Porter. That journey of discovery culminated with Sunday’s heartbreaking installment, during which Pray emphasized the importance of HIV testing to the young men of House Evangelista, only to learn that he was a carrier of the virus.

Shock turned to denial, denial to disbelief, and before you knew it, Pray was baring his soul to a virtual stranger. The camera never strayed from Porter’s face as Pray ran the full gamut of emotions. When he arrived at the conclusion that “the son of a bitch has finally caught up to me,” you could sense his dormant fear creeping in like a familiar shadow. And you could feel every breath as he suppressed his despair for the sake of his hopeful young friends waiting just outside the hospital room.

We hesitate to throw around words like “important,” but the fact is that Pose is shining a crucial light on untold stories about underserved communities — experiences as relevant in 1987 as they are today, whether we realize it or not — anchored by transcendent performances like that of Porter’s, the kind that Emmys are made of.

HONORABLE MENTION | Well, ya did it, Betty Gilpin. In “Mother of All Matches,” the fourth episode of GLOW’s Season 2, ya just about broke us. As Debbie seized upon the notion that she could get rid of the pain of her divorce by getting rid of all of her and soon-to-be ex Mark’s furniture, her portrayer cued up a meltdown that was hilarious, heartrending and, amazingly, sometimes both at once. In particular, she gutted us when a bargain hunter drew Debbie’s attention to a photo of her and Mark in happier days. “God, I feel so bad for these guys,” she said, choking up. “They do not know what’s gonna happen to them.” If only we could bestow upon Gilpin not just an Honorable Mention but the crown she deserves.

HONORABLE MENTION | Amid Westworld’s confounding, maddening second season, Simon Quarterman‘s performance as Lee Sizemore remained a breath of fresh, sensible air. In just one season, Quarterman turned Lee from an underdeveloped character into one suffering from real, internal struggle in a redemption arc that would make Ford proud. In the Season 2 finale, Lee sacrificed himself so that Maeve can escape— but not before delivering Hector’s bank robbery address. “It’s my f–king speech anyway,” Lee roared to Hector, and boy did he do it justice. Quarterman delivered the speech with such power and emotion that it brought both the chills and the tears. He captured the story of a man who, after years of writing other people’s stories, finally got to tell his own. Cowboy Hats off to you, sir.

HONORABLE MENTION | “You brought me joy. And my deepest shame.” So began an epic monologue by Alfre Woodard, in Episode 9 of Marvel’s Luke Cage. Prompted to detail her maternal detachment, Mariah Stokes Dillard spent seven gut-punching minutes revealing how the light-skinned doctor Tilda believed to be her dad was not. Mariah was actually that man’s beard, and had birthed Tilda before meeting him. “I am a survivor,” Mariah declared as Woodard’s face cycled through a bevy of emotions, from disgust and hurt (recalling her rape by Uncle Pete) to the red-hot anger that led her to kill Cornell for suggesting she “wanted it.” “He was wrong,” Mariah assured Tilda. “I never wanted it. And I never wanted you. I tried to love you… but I don’t. ‘Cause every time I look in your face, I see Pete.” Woodard pulled zero punches, as Mariah left Tilda sobbing.

Coronation Street spoilers: Tracy Barlow plot hole revealed in Billy Mayhew twist https://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-tracy-barlow-plot-hole-revealed-in-billy-mayhew-twist/ https://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-tracy-barlow-plot-hole-revealed-in-billy-mayhew-twist/#respond Thu, 26 Apr 2018 18:10:01 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-tracy-barlow-plot-hole-revealed-in-billy-mayhew-twist/

The florist hit out at the vicar and his adopted daughter Summer Spellman (played by Matilda Freeman) as she claimed she didn’t want an addict living near to her business.

After Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) fell from a cliff on Christmas Day, he suffered an addiction to painkillers before he succumbed to a heroin addiction.

While he is trying to recover from his addiction, Tracy (Kate Ford) didn’t help by booting them out of their flat.

Billy was seen stood on the pavement outside being berated by Tracy.

She was heard warning him: “I don’t want an addict living above my shop.

“Once a junkie, always a junkie. Consider yourself evicted.”

However, fans of the long-running soap were fuming as they recalled Tracy’s drug addiction in 1995.

Tracy became ill after she took an ecstasy pill and had to have an operation for a new kidney.

Fans were quick to point out her forgotten drugs past.

Others noted that Tracy had also killed her boyfriend and tried to sell daughter Amy to Roy Cropper.

Taking to Twitter to comment on the plot hole, one viewer shared: “Tracy, think of your past. Why did you have to get a new kidney? #corrie.”

“Once a junkie, always a junkie, I think Tracy has forgot her ecstasy habit #corrie,” a second wrote.

A third continued: “You would think Tracy would be less judgemental. How would she like it if people went around throwing it in her face that she murdered her boyfriend or tried to sell her own baby? #Corrie.”

Someone else added: “#Corrie “Once a junkie, always a junkie”. Is our Tracy forgetting she used to be one?”

“Hang on – didn’t Tracy actually kill someone and she is judging Billy? #Corrie,” a fifth noted.

Fortunately for Billy, Tracy finally gave in and allowed him to stay in the flat.

Elsewhere on the street, Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) was stunned when she found out the identity of David’s (Jack P Shepherd) new girlfriend.

Emma Brooker (Alexandra Mardell), who has now moved into the Platt family home, was in the year above the teen at school.

Bethany was unsurprisingly unimpressed when she also learned Emma would be working alongside her at the salon.

Coronation Street continues Friday on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.

Billy Monger: Double amputee claims podium finish in British F3 debut https://briefnews.eu/billy-monger-double-amputee-claims-podium-finish-in-british-f3-debut/ https://briefnews.eu/billy-monger-double-amputee-claims-podium-finish-in-british-f3-debut/#respond Sun, 01 Apr 2018 18:43:09 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/billy-monger-double-amputee-claims-podium-finish-in-british-f3-debut/

On Saturday, Monger placed third at Oulton Park on his return to the track in a Formula 3 car adapted with a throttle on the steering wheel and a single brake pedal for one of his two prosthetic legs.

Naturally and quite rightly, the incredible achievement attracted plaudits from across the motorsport world.

“It’s a bit surreal but an awesome feeling even to be back,” he said.

“If you told me I was going to be on the podium on my first race back I would have said you were lying.”

Indeed. On April 16, 2017, two weeks before his 18th birthday, Monger crashed into the back of a rival’s car which had stopped.

He was airlifted to hospital after being trapped in his vehicle for more than 90 minutes. He was in a coma for three days before waking to find both legs had been amputated.

Speaking last month, Monger revealed vivid memories of the seconds after the horrific collision.

“I knew it was a big crash but I was still awake in the car, at the time I didn’t feel any pain. I could hear the guy that I’d hit screaming in his car, so the first thing I said when the medics came was ‘Go and look after him’.”

Saturday’s return is truly one of sport’s most-inspiring stories. He qualified in fifth place and went even better to reach the podium when finishing third. There is undoubtedly more to come.

“I’m getting more comfortable in the car with the controls every time I go out,” he said.

“So to be third so early on in the season and qualifying in the top five for the start of the year, that just really fills me with confidence that, come the middle of the season, towards the end of the season, we should really be aiming for podiums every race.

“I would love to have a shot at the title and a full season is where me and the team want this to go.”
