Queen Letizia of Spain looked sombre beside her husband King Felipe today at the first anniversary ceremony of the Barcelona attacks.

The Spanish royal and former news anchor was pictured among crowds of people attending the remembrance ceremony.

The devastating attack, where a van rammed into crowds in Las Ramblas, left 16 people dead.

Letizia wore a black and grey houndstooth tweed print blouse for the tragic anniversary.

She paired her blouse with a pair of floor skimming wide leg black trousers with a pleat at the front. 

She had on her feet a pair of high black pointed stiletto heels which added height to her petite frame.

Her straight brown hair was parted in the middle and tucked behind her ears.

Her makeup was left simple and minimal: a nude lip and a hint of dark eyeliner and mascara.

In one hand Letizia carried a black leather handbag with gold detailing and a stiff black handle. 

Jewellery wise, she wore just a simple pair of pearl stud earrings and her wedding ring.

Queen Letizia and her husband Felipe both looked glum among the crowds, as befitted the occasion. 

They both shook hands with Barcelona’s mayor Ada Colau during the ceremony to pay tribute to the victims of the attacks a year ago.

They were accompanied at the occasion by both Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Spanish Lower Chamber’s Speaker Ana Pastor. 

At a very different occasion earlier this month, Queen Letizia stepped out in Mallorca with her husband and children.

She was there for the Spanish royal family’s annual summer holiday. She spent a week enjoying dinners out and relaxing days with her husband King Felipe and two daughters, Princess Leanor and Elena.

Joining her husband Felipe for a meeting with the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and his wife Maria Begona Gomez, she wore a stunning vibrant red dress.

Embodying the heat of the island, the elegant dress was whimsical and floaty, covered in red and pink floral print.

The kimono-style dress came to just below the stunning queen’s knees, showing off her toned, tanned legs.

Tied at the waist with a belt, the attire showed off the 45-year-old’s slender physique.

The wrap-around dress featured a plunging neckline, adding a more sultry, alluring touch to the floral, summery attire.

In an interview for the documentary, the Russian leader said modern crime drama tended to exaggerate the level of lawlessness in the country at that time, but said “in general, the situation was quite militant.”

“In my country home, I had to put a pump-action shotgun near my bed, this is true. But these were the times back then – better to be safe than sorry,” he said.

The president also revealed that he thought about taking a side-job as a taxi driver after his friend and mentor Anatoly Sobchak lost the 1996 governor elections in St. Petersburg. “I thought about what to do, thought about maybe seeking work as a taxi driver. I am not joking, I had to do something, I had two small kids. So, when they offered me legal work in Moscow on the presidential staff, I agreed and moved.”

Putin has repeatedly described the “shock-therapy” reforms of the 1990s as a mistake that led to poverty for the majority of Russians, while few chosen ‘oligarchs’ gained tremendous riches. Last year, Putin reiterated this position when speaking to an international economic forum, blaming the gap between the richest and poorest Russian citizens on a “nasty tendencies” rooted in 1990s.

The moving documentary will cover how in August 1997, the tragic death of the Princess of Wales stunned her family and catapulted the British public into one of the most extraordinary weeks in modern history.

In a brand new interview, William revealed how his mother’s funeral was a tough duty he had to complete, but that he felt Diana was there with him and walking beside them to help them get through the day.

He said: “Both our parents had brought us up to understand that as best we can that there is this element of duty and the responsibility that you have to do things that you don’t want to do.

“But I have to say, when it becomes that personal as walking behind your mother’s funeral cortège, it goes to another level of duty.

“But I just kept thinking about what she would want and that she’d be proud of Harry and I being able to go through it and effectively she was there with us.”

He added: “I felt like she was almost walking along beside us to get us through.”

Prince Harry also told of how he feels a need to “fill the holes” left following Diana’s passing.

He said: “All I want to do is try and fill the holes that my mother has left and between myself and William and everybody else that’s in those privileged positions to try and make a difference.

“That’s what it’s about for us, trying to make a difference.”

The programme will also hear from some of those most affected including her siblings Earl Spencer and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, former Prime Minister Tony Blair and members of the Royal household.

It can sometimes be daunting for drivers in small cars to suddenly find themselves in a lane next to a huge lorry. 

Many drivers avoid driving next to them altogether. 

A video that has quickly gone viral is enough to make you stick to this rule for good. 

The clip was filmed from behind a sedan in the left hand lane of a narrow highway. 

As the driver in the dark grey sedan was speeding along the road, a HGV zoomed up in the right lane beside it. 

The lorry fast gained ground on the car so that the two vehicles were side-by-side on the tiny two-lane road. 

But when the highway took a slight bend to the right, it became clear the lorry was driving a little too fast. 

Its black cargo suddenly shifted to the left, wrenching the huge vehicle over towards the car. 

Just as it appeared to be toppling right on top of the sedan, the HGV somehow corrected itself and slammed its wheels firmly back down on the road. 

The extreme close call was just inches away from ending in disaster for the driver of the car, who had no chance to get to safety. 

Posted to Imgur, the hair-raising video has been liked more than 169,000 times, with hundreds of comments from shocked viewers. 

One user wrote: “Today’s lesson: Don’t hang out near trucks.”

Another shared: “This will replay in my head any time i go near a rig like that.”

One person said: “I wonder who was more scared: the lorry driver or the car driver”. 

A different video showed a driver who tried to overtake a lorry but failed miserably. 

The car veered out into the left lane to zoom past the truck, only to lose control and flip over into the grass by the roadside.

MELBOURNE – Australia is building a superhighway offering free charging stations in a bid to boost use of electric vehicles, the northeastern state of Queensland said on Thursday, most of its route fringed by the Great Barrier Reef tourist attraction.

The move comes as governments around the world regulate to cut emissions by boosting the use of electric vehicles.

Britain this week said it would ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2040, following France. The mayors of Paris, Madrid, Mexico City and Athens have said they plan to ban diesel vehicles from city centers by 2025.

Australia’s new superhighway, an 1,800-km (1,118-mile) stretch of mostly coastal road alongside the Great Barrier Reef, will be supplied by renewable energy, State Minister Steven Miles said in a statement.

“This project is ambitious, but we want as many people as possible on board the electric vehicle revolution, as part of our transition to a low-emissions future,” he added.

Eighteen towns and cities will make up the first phase of the superhighway, which will become operational in the next six months, making it possible to drive an electric vehicle from the state’s southern border to the far north, he added.

The road runs from Coolangatta on the border of neighboring New South Wales to the city of Cairns, in Australia’s far north.

Brisbane-based charging station maker Tritium will supply most of the project’s charging stations, a spokeswoman for the state government said, with Schneider Electric supplying the rest.

Tritium’s commercial director, Paul Sernia, confirmed the company had supplied its products.

The government’s early support for the project is a signal to the market that Queensland is serious about electric vehicles, said Behyad Jafari, chief executive of Australia’s Electric Vehicle Council.

The step “provides certainty to unlock investment to grow our economy and create new, high skilled jobs,” he added.

Australia’s uptake of electric vehicles lags other nations, but is set to increase to around 12,000 by 2020 and about 1 million by 2030, Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg said in May.

Australia’s management of the Great Barrier Reef has come under sustained criticism amid the biggest ever coral die-off as a result of the strongest El Nino in 20 years, a weather event scientists say is exacerbated by climate change.

More than 2 million people visit the reef each year, generating more than A$ 2 billion ($ 1.53 billion) in tourism dollars, an Australian government report showed in 2016.

An enormous bonfire built to mark Eleventh Night, Northern Ireland’s annual Loyalist celebrations, is raising concerns because of its close proximity to a gas station.

The towering pile of pallets has been built along Prince Andrew Way in the town of Carrickfergus ahead of the traditional bonfire night on July 11.

An employee of the Topaz petrol station told RT.com that they are concerned about what could happen once the pile of timber is set alight: “It’s very high now, we don’t know what’s going to happen when it goes up. We don’t know how it’s going to fall, you have a golf course on one side and the road on the other.”

However local Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) councillor Liam Ashe dismissed concerns.  

“I haven’t been made aware of any concerns and I did speak to people about it,” Ashe told The Irish News.

Towering bonfires are a feature of the Eleventh Night celebrations and signal the beginning of the Orange Order marching season the following day. Last year Northern Irish firefighters attended 33 separate incidents caused by out-of-control bonfires. Several homes were damaged in the Shankill area of Belfast and £90,000 worth of damage was reportedly caused.

“Bonfires should be kept at a manageable size and sited in a clear, open space at a safe distance from buildings and overhead cables,” The Fire Service of Northern Ireland advised in a statement.

The Twelfth is routinely a flashpoint for tensions between Northern Ireland’s unionist and nationalist communities as unionist Orange Order marching bands parade through streets, including through nationalist areas, to proclaim their loyalty to the United Kingdom.
