Make the most out of the nights now drawing in with rich velvets paired with opulent faux furs, satin ribbons and chandelier earrings.
Monsoon were onto something when they colour matched the sell-out red velvet dress with our favourite wine and the result is perfection. Cut just above the knee and nipped in at the waist, pair with a contrasting floral blouse to wear underneath and add an emerald green Alice band to give a nod to the medieval trend that swept the AW18 catwalk.
If dresses aren’t your thing, indulge in a navy velvet trouser two-piece from favourite, L.K Bennett which can be teamed with a statement heel or choose a slip-on in violet or plum purple to keep the look elegantly relaxed.
If head to toe velvet scares you, keep it minimal- add a mule, a bow or a jacket with a velvet lapel and interpret the trend in your own way.

The Courier Mail revealed on Thursday the Broncos have identified Maguire as the man to take over from Bennett, but will allow the 68-year-old to see out his contract through to the end of the 2019 season.
Bennett asked for a one-year extension to take him through to the end of 2020 but that was reportedly denied by club powerbrokers who are in the midst of a power struggle with the seven-time premiership winning coach.
But Maguire, who coached the Rabbitohs to the 2014 premiership, has denied receiving a formal approach from any club about returning to the NRL coaching ranks next season.
Maguire said he had “taken my head out of a lot of the chatter” about the coaching merry-go-round but revealed he was definitely interested in coming back to coach.
“I’m aware that there’s a lot of noise around the coaching but at the moment I have full respect for the coaches who are there and I’m not going to go into too much detail because I don’t have any around the clubs that have obviously been put forward,” Maguire told Macquarie Sports Radio.
“We’ve had no contact so I’m not quite sure where that one has come from. They’re a great club the Broncos and they’re working through some things up there and as I said I’ve got full respect for the coaches that are there so I don’t want to add to anything but no there’s been no contact (from Brisbane).”
Maguire said if he did coach in the NRL again, he would be selective in choosing which club he joined.
“I’ve sat back and learnt a lot from my time at Souths and our time in Wigan and I guess once you’ve been in those positions where you’ve seen a club be extremely successful there’s certain things that need to be in place,” Maguire said. “To be able to go back into a club now with those things I’m keen for and I have seen work to create success, it’s a very important part when you’re picking a club.”
Maguire, who started a new job as the referees’ coach this year, said his role means he is in constant contact with decision makers in clubland and while they’ve sounded out about what his interests are, he reaffirmed no official approaches for his services have been made.
But fuelling speculation Brisbane remains an option, Maguire said moving away from Sydney would not be a problem.
“I do a lot of talk of people in administration and CEOs and people like that so you have conversations where they’re sounding (you) out and wondering what you’re up to,” Maguire said. “So I’ve had conversations like that but other than that it’s just a waiting game now.
“My kids are pretty used to flying about … they’re into me everyday about when I’m going back to coaching so I think they want me out of the house so I think they’re pretty keen for me to get into it wherever it might be.”
Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Michael Bennett will turn himself in to Houston police on Monday, his lawyer reportedly told USA Today.
Bennett, who is represented by Rusty Hardin, was indicted last week by a Texas grand jury on a felony injury of the elderly charge for an incident following Super Bowl LI, but was out of the country at the time.
According to the Harris County district attorney’s statement, Bennett injured a 66-year-old paraplegic woman while trying to push his way on to the field from the stands on Feb. 5, 2017 in Houston. Bennett was at the game as a spectator watching his brother Martellus play for the New England Patriots against the Atlanta Falcons.
Bennett, 32, is charged with intentionally and knowingly causing bodily injury to a person 65 years or older. The charge carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $ 10,000 US fine.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, Bennett was told by stadium security personnel that he had to use a different entrance to gain access to the field. But he ignored security members and shoved his way on to the field and injured the disabled woman, who was in a wheelchair.
Michael Bennett was a member of the Seattle Seahawks at the time of the incident. He was recently traded to the Eagles.
Multiple outlets reported that the Eagles weren’t aware of the situation when they traded for Bennett. “We are aware of the situation involving Michael Bennett and are in the process of gathering more information. Because this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time,” the team said in a statement on Friday.

The Broncos have not won a premiership since then, and the club’s ability to entice the best talent from the Queensland junior leagues has fallen behind superior programs at both Melbourne and North Queensland.
So when James Roberts became available, despite being sacked from two clubs and Bennett already having pledged a centre position to Dale Copley, Copley was out the door and Roberts was in.
A similar shift in stance came for Matt Lodge, whose history is well documented.
It is an example of what pressure can do.
And so Bennett fosters a siege mentality at the club.
The woeful form of the Broncos in round one wasn’t his fault. It wasn’t the fault of players. Nor was it the fault of the club’s recruitment policies.

Blaming the Broncos early season dramas on us pesky rascals in the media was first class media spin.
And it shows how Bennett is himself the most under-pressure man at the Broncos.
It shows how Bennett is fighting to save his job.

Ahead of the Roar’s Suncorp Stadium showdown with Melbourne City on Sunday evening, The Sunday Mail can reveal Aloisi met with Brisbane Broncos boss Bennett last week.
Aloisi, under pressure to turnaround the Roar’s fortunes in what has been largely a forgettable campaign, sought the meeting with Bennett, who was happy to meet with his A-League counterpart.
The former Socceroos striker had similar meetings with AFL coaches during his time as Melbourne Heart coach.
And it’s not the first time seven-time NRL premiership winner Bennett has passed on his words of wisdom to football coaches.
W-LEAGUE: Roar eye rewards for hard yards
Championship-winning Roar coach Mike Mulvey regularly went to Bennett for advice, while all-conquering Sydney FC boss Graham Arnold often picks the brain of the former Maroons and Kangaroos coach.
Aloisi, who regards Bennett as rugby league’s equivalent of legendary former Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson, was thrilled with the outcome of the pair’s lunch meeting at Gambaro restaurant.
The duo have exchanged numbers, with Aloisi set to speak to Bennett regularly as he seeks to return the Roar to the A-League’s summit.
Suncorp Stadium general manager Alan Graham and Roar managing director David Pourre were also at the lunch, with Bennett stressing the need for stability within Brisbane’s coaching ranks.
Aloisi is in his third season at the helm of the Roar and has had to cope with the club’s ongoing off-field problems since starting in the role in June 2015.
Despite the Roar’s issues, Aloisi led them to third place on the ladder and to within a win of the grand final for two successive years before this season’s struggles.
The club hit rock bottom last month when they were beaten 3-2 in front of just 1279 fans at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre by Filipino minnows Ceres-Negros.
But with their crippling injury toll easing, the Roar are slowly turning around their form and will aim for a third straight A-League win.
“We know it’s another final for us,” Aloisi said.
“The last two A-League games have been good in terms of performances and wins and we want to keep on making sure we pick up the points that we need to make finals.
“Also we have to plan already for next season. We have to make sure that we build a squad that we believe is going to win it next season … but at the moment our main focus is this season and making finals.”

In typically dry fashion, NRL-based supercoach Wayne Bennett told reporters on Saturday that his side’s display in their 20-18 semi-final win over Tonga wouldn’t be enough for the all-conquering Kangaroos next weekend in Brisbane.
Seemingly coasting at 20-0 with seven minutes left, England somehow gave up three late tries to a fast-finishing Mate Ma’a.
Australia obliterated Fiji 54-6 in Friday night’s first semi-final, seeking to win a fourth World Cup crown in five attempts.
“Probably not,” Bennett said when asked if England could lift the trophy.
“But we’ll be there next week — we’ll still go to the game.”
Speaking with his tongue less firmly in cheek, Tonga counterpart Kristian Woolf felt England had every chance of World Cup glory, but had to be perfect.
Australia’s defence — with only three tries conceded all tournament — would certainly be miserly, meaning England would have to follow suit.
“They’re going to defend well, going to be very hard to score points against, and England were very tough to score points against tonight,” Woolf said.
“I’ve had good looks at England and New Zealand (but) I really haven’t had a good look at Australia, except for what we’ve seen against Fiji last night — they were outstanding; they’re going to be very hard to beat and always are.
“I’d certainly like to think England make it a real contest.”
Bennett, keeping his cards close to his chest, also said he hadn’t spent much time watching Australia’s performances.
His side started off their campaign with a group-stage opening match against the Kangaroos and lost 18-4, but scored the game’s first try.
They’ve since gone on to defeat France and Lebanon in pool play, before a 36-6 quarter-final win over Papua New Guinea and Saturday’s semi-final triumph.
