What you see above is merely an example of what the so-called “BFGD” line of monitors might look like in your home setup. Nvidia’s working with several major display makers — including Acer, Asus, and HP — to produce the new line of gigantic screens.
Even if you’re using a large, 4K/HDR-capable TV as your gaming monitor, it’s unlikely to compare to these 65-inch behemoths. Take a look!
NVIDIA
A 65-inch screen is huge.
The average computer monitor is under 32-inches — most TVs aren’t even 65-inches, let alone PC displays.
It’s also worth considering how much space a 65-inch display takes up. It’s pretty unlikely that your desk isn’t prepared for that large of a screen, especially in addition to a PC gaming tower and other stuff (like the example given above).
Another thing to consider: Sitting at a desk and playing games means sitting a few feet (at most) from the screen. Imagine sitting a few feet away from a nearly 6-foot display!
NVIDIA/HP
4K? Check. HDR? Check. G-sync? Check. 120Hz refresh rate? Check!
These “BFGDs” even have Nvidia’s Shield set-top box technology built right in. It’s kind of like those Roku-based smart TVs, where the Roku functionality is built directly into the TV.
Which is all to say one thing: These aren’t just large gaming displays. They’re large, sure, but they’re also top-of-the-line in terms of specs. That means games will look incredible — as long as you have a PC that’s powerful enough to make them look incredible, of course.
NVIDIA/Asus
Instead of putting this massive display in your PC gaming area, why not put it in your living room? That’s definitely an option.
By using Nvidia Shield tech, you could stream PC games to the huge display without having to directly connect your PC. You’ll lose some visual quality by streaming games, and you’ll add some latency in the process, but games will still look pretty good regardless.

Grab Games and its founder Anthony Borquez are always chasing new experiences; always getting excited about new platforms and technologies. The team got into mobile gaming early and later dabbled in the social gaming space, but now they think the future is in VR and, a bit further off, AR. And it might also be on your tabletop.
Borquez and Grab have been exploring VR and AR since 2013, as that first wave of excitement was just starting to gain momentum. “We got in there really early,” says Borquez. It was even before people started talking about motion-sickness. It was almost a foreign concept to put a headset on someone’s face and build a 360 VR game. It was out there.”
It meant the studio could get back into PC gaming and, after building a shooter, it got the attention of Lionsgate, eventually spawning the John Wick VR first-person shooter, John Wick Chronicles, that was designed in partnership with Dead By Daylight publisher and PayDay developer Starbreeze Studios.
Borquez’ ambition, in regards to VR, is to create the type of AAA experiences that Grab’s designers enjoy both as gamers and developers — games like John Wick Chronicles and the studio’s upcoming boxing title, Knockout League, which landed on Steam Early Access back in January. But on the AR side of things, he’s looking further into the future and beyond games — at least beyond just playing them.
“For AR, we’re not necessarily making games, but we’re building unique experiences that allow gamers to consume content in a totally new way. So there’s a bit of a difference between the two product lines. Right now we’re still learning AR, and we’re still learning what’s useful, what enhances the experience. What we don’t want to do is build a gimmick. We’re trying to build content that people will need to use every day.”

At Google’s Pixel reveal, Grab was able to unveil something of its own: an AR tabletop platform. It’s a prototype of a tool that the studio hopes will have some broad applications, but for the demo the focus was on presenting a game of Riot’s MOBA, League of Legends, on a table through AR. It could be a new way to watch a match, study a map, and brush up on strategies.
“Instead of just following what the commentator is saying or what the broadcast is showing you, imagine being able to follow just the jungler for an entire match,” says Borquez. “Like you could see exactly when they’re going down to mid-lane, when they are going back to top, what strategy they’re using — there’s a lot of value in that.”
Essentially, it’s a tool for players and viewers to customize what they’re seeing. So if you’re watching the League of Legends World Championship, you wouldn’t be limited just to what you’re able to see on Twitch. And the same goes for any esport, or even non-competitive single-player games. Borquez imagines that it could be used by streamers and YouTubers, too. You could be watching your favourite streamer in a match, hit the AR button, and then you’re able to see the map or the broadcast in AR. It could even be used in traditional sports, as a way for football fans to watch replays or whole games.
“Our vision,” says Borquez, “is that we build a platform where people come to watch these games and sporting events in a whole new way through augmented reality.”
Since AR is so closely related to mobile gaming thanks to things like Pokémon Go and Ingress, it means that there are a lot of AR-capable devices out there and a lot more potential users. And the more units that are out there, the easier it will be for studios like Grab to experiment with social and multiplayer experiences. Borquez envisions friends watching League of Legends together and then using their mobile devices to bring up the map and highlight specific moments and add comments that both of them can see.

It’s holistic — mobile, social, and augmented reality all being used to enhance watching an esport. AR and VR don’t need to be disparate, either, and can be used to complement each other or change the perspective experienced by an audience.
“We’re going to showcase something at CES this year where, using AR, you’re able to see what someone is doing in VR,” Borquez explains. “We’re taking a VR game that typically you’ve got to watch on an external monitor, to see what the person is seeing, and it’s not a great experience, and we’re outputting the live game data, allowing you to see what the player is doing in VR on the tabletop right in front of you. In real-time.”
Although Grab is starting to show off these concepts, AR is still in its infancy. And while it might be a bit ahead, Borquez thinks VR still has quite a long way to go as well. “A lot of us had hoped that the hardware would proliferate a bit quicker, and we’re happy with how some of these content experiences are taking shape, but consumer VR is going to take a little bit longer in terms of getting the price to the right point, getting people more educated, and giving them value propositions about why they need VR.”
The ground floor is where Grab likes to be, however. “For us it’s like platform disruption. We love being early to something that can potentially alter or change the way people play games and experience content. This is why we were really excited back in 2007 with the iPhone. We’d been building mobile games for five years, but we saw the iPhone as a completely new way for consumers to interact with their device. Looking at the industry, we felt like we were on the verge of being part of a big movement.
That’s kind of where we are with VR and AR. We feel like this next revolution could have the same impact as the iPhone.”

The Tahoe arrived long before the current crossover craze, and its continued popularity proves that big is still in. But this beefy SUV is more than a blockish brute. The Tahoe can tow up to 8600 pounds, and its cabin provides quiet, comfortable refuge. A 355-hp V-8 and six-speed automatic transmission is the sole powertrain, available with rear- or all-wheel drive. Poor fuel economy and a tight third row are drawbacks, but the Tahoe’s standard infotainment system is superb. While the hefty Chevy costs a pretty penny, its pickup-truck capabilities and undeniable presence solidify its favorable spot on the family-hauler food chain. READ MORE ››

Western sanctions have forced Russian oil behemoth Rosneft to suspend an oil project in the Black Sea.
Russia’s Federal Subsurface Management Agency (Rosnedra) suspended Rosneft’s license for the exploration and production of oil and gas in the Yuzhno-Chernomorksy area of the Black Sea for five years because of western sanctions, a source told RBC.
Russian state media TASS later reported the suspension, as well. A representative from Rosneft said that the suspension was prompted by the “adverse macroeconomic situation and sanctions,” as well as by a lack of drilling equipment. The company will “keep an eye on changes in the macroeconomic parameters,” TASS said.
But the Russian oil giant plans to continue drilling in the Zapadno-Chernomorsky area of the Black Sea and will soon begin drilling an appraisal well with Italian oil multinational Eni SpA, according to the Rosneft representative.

Energy exports are the backbone and muscle of the Russian economy, and Moscow has long been keen to develop some of its nonporous fields, which are difficult to tap with traditional drilling techniques. But Russia doesn’t have the technological capability to work in those regions alone. So, Rosneft teamed up with Exxon-Mobil Corp. and Eni for joint exploration projects in several regions, including the Black Sea and the Arctic.
Some of those exploration plans hit a brick a brick wall several years later, however, after western sanctions were imposed on Russia in response to its actions in Ukraine.
While Exxon has had to pull out of its partnership with Rosneft, the EU version of the sanctions on Russia is slightly different from the US’s in that there’s a grandfather clause for existing projects. This has allowed Italian oil company Eni to continue its venture in the Russian sector of the Black Sea.
A source told the Wall Street Journal back in April 2017 that “Exxon is worried it could get boxed out of the Black Sea by the Italians.” Meanwhile, Eni and Rosneft signed an extension cooperation agreement in the areas of upstream, refining, marketing, and trading in May 2017.
Rosneft and Exxon signed a landmark deal in 2012 under then-Exxon CEO and current Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s leadership to explore Russia’s arctic and its portion of the Black Sea, as well as drill in Siberia. Rosneft signed another deal with Eni two weeks later.
The Obama administration issued an executive order that imposed sanctions on Russia in response to the country’s actions in Ukraine in 2014. Part of the sanctions leveled on Russia include the prohibition of technology transfers in Russian energy projects in the Arctic, Siberia, and the Black Sea. Sanctions also prohibit dealings with Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin.
WikimediaOne key casualty of that round of sanctions was the Kara Sea inside the Arctic Circle.
In September 2014, Rosneft discovered oil there with Exxon but, due to the sanctions, they could not continue the landmark joint exploration. This proved to be problematic for both parties since Rosneft does not have the technological ability to drill in cold offshore conditions by itself, while Russia was Exxon’s second-biggest exploration area at the time.
US President Donald Trump advocated improving relations with Russia over the course of his campaign. However, the prospects of improving relations between the two countries began to fade over the course of 2017 following a US strike on Syria and the launching of an investigation into whether there were ties between Trump aides and Russia by Congress.
And after it emerged in April 2017 that Exxon applied to the Treasury Department in 2015 for a waiver of sanctions restrictions, the Treasury swiftly released a statement saying it won’t issue waivers to US companies, including Exxon, to work in Russia.

To Kate Moore, there’s nothing more important for an investor than keeping an open mind.
Now the chief equity strategist at BlackRock, which oversees $ 5.4 trillion, Moore has used this as a guiding principle throughout her career — whether that meant figuring out the next move in her career, or making an investment decision.
In an interview with Business Insider, Moore talked about the low-volatility environment, the red-hot tech sector, financial stocks, and the importance of companies embracing new technology. She also discussed her most important advice for anyone starting a career in investment management.
Here’s what Moore had to say (emphasis ours):
The number one thing that’s contributed to my career and professional development has been flexibility, both in terms of career decisions and my investment process.
The industry has changed very dramatically during the time I’ve been in it, and it feels like the pace of change is only increasing. For young people in the business, I’d avoid trying to over-architect your career path. Some of the best career opportunities come when there are moments of change. And professional growth occurs when you’re willing to pivot. Being well-rounded and flexible about job opportunities is very important.
In terms of my investment process, it’s changed a lot throughout my career. You have to be willing to incorporate new information and data sources and understand that the way you analyze things will have to change over time. It’s also critical to acknowledge when you’re wrong, whether that’s changing your view, closing your position, or adopting a new approach. Be flexible. Don’t consistently try to analyze investment opportunities the same way.
I also try to be a sponge and absorb information about everything, even things outside the world of investment. The best investors are those that have a great understanding of history and behavior. You really need to understand what makes people tick.

One of the top stock exchanges in the US has launched a new venture investment program to find the creme de la crème in the fintech space.
Nasdaq announced the launch of Nasdaq Ventures, which will aim to find innovative financial technology firms with which they can collaborate, on April 20.
The program will invest between $ 1 million and $ 10 million and take minority stakes in the fintech ventures. Every potential investment will undergo “rigorous review,” according to a news release out by the firm. An internal committee will be responsible for deciding the firms that best align with Nasdaq’s goals and client needs.
“With the launch of our new venture investment program, we are reinforcing our focus on driving growth and innovation by evaluating, distributing, licensing and integrating disruptive technologies for the long-term benefit of our global clients,” said Adena Friedman, Nasdaq’s president and CEO, in a press release.
Gary Offner will head the new program. He joined Nasdaq at the beginning of this year, after running strategic investments for the equity division of Morgan Stanley.
During a Facebook Live interview with Jill Malandrino, the global markets reporter at Nasdaq, Offner said some of the first initiatives of the new program will focus on tackling some of the commonplace pain points facing Nasdaq’s clients.
“And that can cover a number of different sectors,” Offner said. “Content, data, analytics. It can cover machine learning applied to outsourcing initiatives … there are a lot of opportunities.”
Jean-Jacques Louis, senior vice president of corporate strategy at Nasdaq, said the company had been “really focused with putting ourselves on the cutting edge of technology, and how to really continue with delivering for our customers the best solution. And sometimes you have to go outside to see where innovation happens.”
The new investment program is the latest chapter of Nasdaq’s transformation from a US equities exchange to a diversified financial technology company. This is a move that has been viewed positively by Wall Street.
For instance, a group of equity analysts at UBS identified the firm as a favored pick among exchanges.
“Nasdaq’s business mix has continued to evolve, and as investors continue to shift their perception of Nasdaq to more of a financial technology company, we think the multiple will continue to expand,” the bank said.

NASA’s Marshall Spaceflight Center
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — The Trump administration has directed NASA to study whether it is feasible to fly astronauts on the debut flight of the agency’s heavy-lift rocket, a mission currently unmanned and targeted to launch in late 2018, officials said on Friday.
The study marks the Republican president’s first step in shaping a vision for the space agency.
Under President Barack Obama, NASA was working on the heavy-lift Space Launch System rocket and Orion deep-space capsule with the aim of sending astronauts to rendezvous with an asteroid in the mid-2020s, followed by a human expedition to Mars in the 2030s.
The request for the study from the new administration tweaks that plan by exploring whether to add a crew to an earlier test flight and perhaps setting the stage for a human return to the moon.
NASA officials said they do not feel compelled to fly the test mission with crew aboard, Bill Gerstenmaier, NASA’s head of human space flight, told reporters on a conference call.
“There’s not pressure to go do this,” Gerstenmaier said. “I find it encouraging that we were asked to go do this feasibility study.”
The study is expected to take about a month.
Engineers are assessing hardware changes, schedule delays, additional costs and increased risks of flying a two-member crew on the first flight of the Space Launch System rocket, which is about four times bigger and more powerful than any current US booster.
silodrome.coThe astronauts would fly aboard an Orion capsule, under development by Lockheed Martin Corp, and swing around the moon during an eight- to nine-day mission, similar to what the Apollo 8 crew accomplished in 1968.
Gerstenmaier said adding crew to the mission would not be worthwhile if it forced the flight to be delayed more than about a year.
The rocket’s second flight, which is to include crew, is targeted for August 2021. The study will explore what would be gained technically by having a crew aboard sooner.
