The night before the EU vote, Theresa May has issued a last-ditch plea with the public to support her Brexit deal that has cost her a big chunk of the cabinet due to concessions that many have called ‘betrayal’.

With the EU vote looming on the near horizon, Theresa May has released a statement desperately calling for the public to support her compromised Brexit deal. The dramatic letter attempts to ensure that the deal will honor the concerns of those who voted for Brexit, such as allowing the UK to control migration, make its own legislation and end “vast annual payments” to the EU. With limited support in government, May is hoping a direct appeal to the people will help put on the pressure in her favor, but her efforts seem to have backfired. 

While May says that her proposal is in the UK’s “national interests”, and “works for the whole country” regardless of how one voted, even members of her own party are already drafting alternative plans believing that May’s will be shot down. Many of the alternative plans will seek to maintain a closer relationship to the EU.

Also pushing for a softer Brexit, Labour’s Jeremy Corbyn called the deal “the worst of all worlds”, on Thursday, and a “testament to the failure of the (Conservatives’) bungled negotiations.”

On the other side of the aisle, Conservatives like Bill Cash have critiqued the bill as it would still allow European judges to have a say in British law. The biggest critique from hard-Brexiters is that in the terms of the agreement, Britain will continue to be in a customs union with the EU for years, without an option to exit unilaterally. 

Aside from the larger structural issues with the wishy-washy plan itself, there is a landmine field of related issues which threaten to derail the deal outright. One such issue was Spain’s demand that the deal’s wording regarding Gibraltar be clarified or Madrid will walk, an issue which May rectified by completely capitulating to Spain’s demands.

While MP’s from every side of the house of commons have stepped up to criticize the plan, May’s authority had already been deeply compromised after dozens of members of her cabinet quit in protest of the deal including her chief negotiator, Dominic Raab.

May is scheduled to meet with the 27 EU leaders in Brussels this weekend, where her plan will be approved or declined.

But now the “Pharma Bro” insists he has turned a corner: “I was wrong, I was a fool. I should have known better,” Shkreli wrote in the emotional letter to US District Judge Kiyo Matsumoto.

“I accept the fact that I made serious mistakes, but I still believe that I am a good person with much potential,” Shkreli said.

Judge Matsumoto ruled on Monday that Shkreli was liable for nearly $ 10.5 million in losses in his securities fraud case. He may be looking at 20 years in prison when his sentencing comes up on March 9; his lawyers are asking the judge to sentence the convicted fraudster to somewhere between 12 and 18 months.

Shkreli has languished in jail since his bail was revoked in September 2017 after he made an offer on Twitter of $ 5,000 to anyone who could grab a strand of hair from Hillary Clinton.

Describing himself as an “irreverent and free-wheeling individual”  Shkreli wrote in the letter that “The demons that haunted me — the root cause of my insecurity in my life — no longer all exist.”

The actor – who plays Adam Barton in the ITV soap – confirmed he was quitting the Dales earlier this year.

And now the 29-year-old has appeared to have made a huge U-turn as he sent out a desperate plea to bosses on Twitter.

He wrote: “Dear @emmerdale I know it’s only been a few weeks but am ready to come back now even if I am a ghost… it’s been done before.”

Adam’s message received plenty of response from fans who were all up for the star to return.

One emotional fan wrote: “This needs to happen your exit storyline hasn’t even been shown yet and I’m not looking forward to seeing you leave. Can you stay please Adam?”

While fellow co-star Michael Parr, who plays his half-brother Ross Barton, teased his acting skills and said: “You couldn’t even play yourself on screen….how the bloody hell you gonna play a ghost?”

Another fan took Adam’s Twitter literally and wondered if he revealed a massive clue about his exit storyline: “What do you mean ghost? ARE YOU DYING?”

In the soap, Adam has just been arrested on suspicion of murdering crazed killer Emma Barton (Gillian Kearney).

The father-of-two has played the character on the soap for the past eight years and recently teased his final scenes will be “explosive”.

Discussing his exit in an interview with OK! Magazine, Adam revealed: “I’m not allowed to say too much but it’s a belting storyline. It’ll be explosive and the perfect way for me to say goodbye to the show.”

Despite teasing a dramatic exit, Adam admitted he won’t be killed off on the ITV show as he added: “The door has been left open for me to return.”

Emmerdale continues tonight on ITV at 7pm.

National Security Adviser Mark Sedwill will be formally asked if the defense element of a review of security capability can be elevated to a formal strategic defense review early next year, unnamed sources told the Times.

A national security capability review is currently taking place, and includes areas such as foreign aid and counterterrorism, but the MoD will seize upon it and request that a full defense review be born from the current, “light touch” examination.

Prime Minister Theresa May will be asked to give the green light for a £4 billion bailout from the Treasury – despite the Treasury allegedly owing the MoD already for using military helicopters and jets without paying.

MoD chiefs will argue they can save half of the £4 billion by closing some back office operations and making support costs cheaper, or maintenance savings. However, the predicted black hole in the defense budget is currently around £30 billion over 10 years.

The man at the helm of the operation – recently appointed Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson – is said to have a business brain, but no military experience. A defense source told the Times the military will do its best to convince the former chief whip that cuts must be avoided.

“The proposal needs selling to Downing Street, as a full defense review would need to be commissioned there to have any meaning,” a source said.

“But interest levels there are low and ‘distractions’ not welcomed. Gavin now needs to earn his spurs.”

The defense secretary and Chancellor Philip Hammond, however, are on bad terms. Theresa May allegedly had to intervene in a “blazing row” between the pair. Child-like comparisons to ‘Dad’s Army’ characters have been slung between Hammond allies and Williamson supporters – with Williamson being compared to the dopy Private Pike character from the popular comedy program and Hammond likened to Private Frazer, the doom-mongering undertaker.

If Hammond refuses the proposal, Williamson could be very unpopular. Massive savings will have to be made and new orders for up-and-coming war tech canceled. Amphibious assault ships HMS ‘Bulwark’ and HMS ‘Albion’ as well as helicopters are for the chop, it is claimed, while there are rumors of 1,000 marines being cut.

This could spark infighting between the UK’s three pillars of defense, as they battle to keep their personnel and machines. A final draft of the national security capability review is due to be considered by Prime Minister May and the National Security Committee on December 19.

As the duo opened the ITV show today, Phillip, 55, announced that he would be attempting the One Chip Challenge.

The One Chip Challenge involves participants eating one tortilla chip flavoured with Carolina Reaper, the hottest pepper on the planet.

Phillip Schofield revealed to viewers that Holly would not be participating in the challenge, so therefore he would be doing it on his own – but he desperately tried to change her mind.

“There is no way I’m doing this and I’ll tell you why I’m not doing this… there is a sick bucket over there just in case one of us pukes up… I puked up on telly once after having a sip of tobasco and that’s all over YouTube! I’m not doing that again – not even for you,” the mother-of-three said.

She added: “There’s the sick bucket, you can make friends with that later…I’ll hold your hair back!”

After watching clips of various people attempting the One Chip Challenge on the internet, Phillip suggested they set up a poll asking whether Holly should do it or not.

He then turned to Holly and shouted: “Lick it! Lick it! Just lick it!” as Holly Willoughby giggled away before introducing a clip which showed Phillip doing a shot of chilli vodka back in 2012 alongside Emma Willis.

This Morning fans certainly want Holly to take part and took to Twitter to set up their own polls.

“I think @hollywills should try the chilli with @Schofe it would be fun to watch and brighten up a few peoples mornings #ThisMorning,” one person wrote, while another added: “Oh come on Holly, give the chip a lick!!”

Other viewers were concerned with Phillip’s choice of words as he shouted: “Lick it!”

“#Thismorning don’t think Phil should repeatedly tell Hollie to lick it,” one user tweeted, while another said: “I can’t handle listening to @Schofe telling @hollywills to ‘lick it’.”

Ryanair has recently faced one of the biggest crisis in its history, cancelling 700.000 flights over recent months.

Disgruntled passengers have blamed the airline for not managing the problem of overdue holidays for the captains.

The low-cost airline has since begged its ex-pilots to return to the airline in a bid to increase their numbers.

They are offering a 20 per cent pay increase and better job conditions.

An email seen by Daily Mail shows Elaine Griffin, Ryanair’s flight operation manager stating: “Significant changes that are taking place at Ryanair.”

These include a 20 per cent pay increase, as well as “increased resources in pilot rostering, crew control, bases management and training”.

The email ends: “If you are interested in having a conversation about returning to Ryanair, we would be delighted to hear from you.”

Ryanair is even using LinkedIn to offer the benefits, with airline’s pilot recruiter Darren Kinsella writing: “With our new improved pay deals, our captains can earn 26 per cent more than Jet2 and 20 per cent more than Norwegian.”

Ryanair told Express.co.uk: “We have sent this letter to a small number of former Ryanair pilots. We are not “short of pilots” – we have over 4,200 or 10.5 per aircraft – and have recruited over 860 so far this year.” 

A source told Telegraph Travel that the airline was “begging” staff to return.

Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary has previously offered pilots a “productivity/loyalty bonus” in a letter published in TheJournal.ie.

Mr O’Leary urged pilots not to ignore Ryanair for “less financially secure/or Brexit challenged airlines”.

He also offered to exceed the pay of other rivals, offering €12,000 (£10,700) to stop pilots from moving to other airlines. 

He ended the letter stating: “If you have or are considering joining one of these less financially secure/or Brexit challenged airlines, I urge you to stay with Ryanair for a brighter better future for you and your family.”

The troubles have continued for the airline, as they were forced to cancel another 200 flights last week.

Due to French air strikes by traffic controllers, many flights to Spain were affected with Alicante, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca suffering the most.

A statement issued by Ryanair said: “We regret to inform customers that, due to a strike by air traffic controllers in France on 10 October, we have been forced to cancel the flights listed below.

“Ryanair deeply regrets any inconvenience caused by these unwarranted delays/cancellations caused by air traffic controllers.”
