ITV viewers tuned in to see a jam-packed Britain’s Got Talent final last night and Colin Thackery was crowned the winner of the series.

The 89-year-old, who is also a Chelsea Pensioner, said he dreamt of performing for his Queen and that is now a reality.

Having beaten Act X’s incredible idenity reveal, the singer won the hearts of the nation.

Speaking out on his success, he said he was: “Absolutely astonished. It’s incredible, I don’t know what to say, I’m stuck for words for a change! Thank you very much, all of you, all the backing I’ve had.”

Presenter Ant McPartlin then reminding him of the prize he had won and when hearing about the £250,000 cash he exclaimed: “oooh!”

But it was the chance to perform at the Royal Variety Performance that he was interested in.

He replied: “That’s the job. That’s the one I wanted to be at.”

It came after three million votes were casted and those watching at home took to Twitter to congratulate the veteran.

One said: “So glad Colin won,” whilst another added: “#BGT thank you for your service Colin, I hope the royal variety is everything you’ve ever dreamed of.”

Someone else wrote: “What a terrific gesture to donate his  #BGT prize money to @RHChelsea Colin Thackery makes us really proud of the @BritishArmy.”

It cames after his beautiful performance when he was joined on stage by other Royal Chelsea Pensioners and military personnel.

Following his song, the judges gave their comments and David Walliams said: “I think you are unbeatable!” whilst Alesha Dixon added: “You inspire me.”

“I know this is a huge show, I know this isn’t about the glitz and glamour for you, it’s because you served your country and I hope tonight they served you,” Amanda Holden remarked.

“Both performances have been remarkable, you have genuinely my upmost respect, I salute your sir,” Simon Cowell concluded.

For some viewers, Colin’s success came as a surprise, especially when he was in the final two with X or Marc Spellman as people later found out.

Having gone through the whole audition process being know as a masked and hooded figure X, whilst performing magic.

But tonight, during the final, he ended his act with a video which revealed his true identity.

And viewers were transported back to the 2018 series when Marc auditioned as a magician.

“It was always about hope and never giving up it. It has been an honour sharing X with you, I am X,” he exclaimed and those watching at home saw his mask come off and reveal himself as Ant and Dec’s 2018 Golden Buzzer semi-finalist, Marc.

Britain’s Got Talent 2019 is available to catch up on ITV hub.

What Happens After Your Mother Beats You Up https://briefnews.eu/what-happens-after-your-mother-beats-you-up/ https://briefnews.eu/what-happens-after-your-mother-beats-you-up/#respond Sun, 25 Nov 2018 12:33:22 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/what-happens-after-your-mother-beats-you-up/ The group home is where I listen to Pink Floyd: The Wall for the first time. There are 10 of us. Two teenage girls have their own room, while the rest of us younger girls share the room next door with its four bunk beds.

The teenagers don’t usually talk to us, except to bum cigarettes or to laugh at us for “not knowing shit.” They dress in black with torn jeans and ’80s hair. They only want to listen to bands with ’80s hair on MTV. They’ll mess up our game of Skip-Bo if we don’t let them control the TV. Nancy has the big black hair; Susan has the teased-up blond. Their laughter is mean and screechy, like metal eating another piece of metal.

I’m new, so I keep quiet and study them warily. I’ve been in the foster care system for a few months, ever since my mom bruised up my face and kicked me out. Mostly I try to stay out of everybody’s way, especially the teenagers’.

There were teenagers around where my mom lived. They’d hunt us younger kids from carport to carport, and if they caught us, they threw us in the dumpsters. So I keep my distance from Nancy and Susan, just in case they also want to throw me somewhere unpleasant.

For all I know, Nancy is in there waiting to shiv me with a sharpened toothbrush.

One day it’s just Nancy and me down in the basement where us foster kids live. I’ve been giving her a wide berth, but she flits around me like I’m a power source that she can’t resist. Finally, she says, “Hey, kid, over here,” and motions for me to follow her into her room. I’ve watched Susan and Nancy work magic with their “don’t fuck with me” faces, and I do my best now to imitate the angry eyes, the “whatever, man” frown. I saunter toward her room, not too slow, but not too fast either.

For all I know, Nancy is in there waiting to shiv me with a sharpened, unsanctioned toothbrush.

Nancy and Susan’s room is smaller than ours and finished in white brick. A dumpy dresser with a boom box on top of it sits against one wall, a flimsy bunk bed against another. Nancy waves me toward the bottom bunk. “Here,” Nancy says, pulling back a ratty blanket. “Look.” She points at a wet stain on the sheet. “It’s cum.” She waits for my response, head cocked, coal-lined eyes fixed on mine. I sense a “make it or break it” moment.

“Wow,” I say, dead serious. “Impressive.”

Nancy throws her head back and cackles. “We had two dudes here last night, and nobody knows!” She struts over to the boom box and turns it on. Crude rap lyrics tumble out.

“Have you heard 2 Live Crew yet? This shit’s nasty.” She jumps around the room, shouting lyrics. I listen, quiet, my face turning red. The lyrics are disgusting. So disgusting they’re funny. I giggle, then laugh and after a few minutes, I’m yelling just as loud as Nancy.

Me: Suck my cock and I’ll eat yer pus-sy!

Nancy: Eat my pussy! Eat, eat my pus-sy!

amy bee girl knew shit 1

When the tape has finished playing, Nancy looks me over. She flings a Metallica T-shirt from the bedpost to my chest.

“Here,” she says, “wear it.”

She picks up an opened pack of Marlboros from the dresser. Places it in my hand. Appraises me.

“Smoke these.” Pauses. “And listen to this.” She thrusts a cassette tape at me, smiles at her own generosity. “Now get out.” She pushes me into the hall and slams the door. Just like that, I’m banned again.

Late that night, when everyone else is asleep, I pull out the lighter and ashtray the younger girls use to secretly smoke in the house and place them on my bed. I rummage through my dresser drawer until I find my Walkman. Back on my bed, I pull out the cassette tape and study the cover. Pink Floyd: The Wall is splashed like blood across a white brick wall. I put the cassette in the Walkman and place the earphones against my ears.

I expertly light a cigarette — I’ve seen my mom do it millions of times — and inhale. When my eyes stop watering, and I’ve mostly stopped coughing, I hear the first faint lines of a pained, angry voice surmising the next decade of my life:

“So ya, thought ya, might like to go to the show.

To feel the warm thrill of confusion, that space cadet glow.”

It would be chaos. There would be blood, and drugs, and loss. But for now I just stare at the springs popping out of the top bunk.

Tomorrow I’ll practice my laugh. I’ll make sure it sounds like metal eating metal.

Piers Morgan MOCKS Prince Harry as he BEATS the Royal in shock poll https://briefnews.eu/piers-morgan-mocks-prince-harry-as-he-beats-the-royal-in-shock-poll/ https://briefnews.eu/piers-morgan-mocks-prince-harry-as-he-beats-the-royal-in-shock-poll/#respond Wed, 07 Nov 2018 12:53:50 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/piers-morgan-mocks-prince-harry-as-he-beats-the-royal-in-shock-poll/

The infamous talk show star read out the results of a YouGov poll that claimed to collate the most ‘famous’ people in Britain.

Mr Morgan ranked sixth after 98 percent of Britons surveyed had ostensibly heard of him.

The GMB host said: “I’m the sixth most famous person in the country! Prince Harry, languishing down at 97 percent.”

Meanwhile, co-host Susanna Reid scoffed at the news.

She said: “Sorry, sorry – how have more people heard of you than Prince Harry?”

But she was interrupted by her rambling colleague.

Mr Morgan continued: “Daniel Craig, Oprah Winfrey, Boris Johnson and the English football team are all less famous than me.”

Addressing TV host Lorraine, he asked: “How privileged do you feel talking to the sixth most famous person in the country?”

The reaction on Twitter was not as rosy.

One user said: “We’ve had 15 minutes of Piers insulting Sean and Alex then rambling on about himself…..oh and by the way another teenager stabbed last night. Get your priorities right GMB, disgraceful!!!”

Another cried: “So so sick of hearing Piers Morgan rant and hardly ever getting to hear anybody else’s point of view. Will he ever put a cork in it?”

Even more bitingly, one person said: “He is only more famous because people hate him. Surely it is better to be loved. About time he was sacked and then other people could talk.”

The most famous people in Britain, according to the poll, were David Beckham and Theresa May, who were both recognised by 100 percent of those sampled.

Akai’s MPK Mini Play is a compact battery-powered beats machine https://briefnews.eu/akais-mpk-mini-play-is-a-compact-battery-powered-beats-machine/ https://briefnews.eu/akais-mpk-mini-play-is-a-compact-battery-powered-beats-machine/#respond Sat, 13 Oct 2018 02:20:43 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/akais-mpk-mini-play-is-a-compact-battery-powered-beats-machine/

Portable instruments that run on AA batteries have been popping up for a while now. There’s the Roland Boutique line, Korg’s Monologue and even the iRig Keys I/O from IK Multimedia. Now Akai is getting into the portable game with an affordable update to one if it’s most popular pieces of gear. The MPK Mini Play is a new version of the MPK Mini that’s loaded with 128 sounds and 10 drum kits to get you started.

The MPK Mini Play also features eight backlit drum pads alongside a 4-way joystick for added control — a look that’s similar to the MPK Mini mkII. All of that sits atop a 25-key keyboard. And yes, the Mini Play can also be used as a USB MIDI controller should you need it. The real highlight here is portability. This compact instrument can run on three AA batteries to keep you mobile and a built-in speaker means you don’t need any extras to hear your tunes. Of course, everyone around you will probably hate you for it. For less annoying music making, there’s a headphone jack for monitoring.

The MPK Mini Play is also affordable. The instrument will cost you $ 129 and it’s already available for purchase from retailers like Sweetwater. According to that shop’s listing, the MPK Mini Play comes in Black (pictured above), Limited Edition Blackout and White with reserved keys. The introduction of the MPK Mini Play also comes just weeks after Akai introduced the $ 199 Fire controller for FL Studio.

Venom WINS UK box office despite bad reviews – as Johnny English 3 beats A Star Is Born https://briefnews.eu/venom-wins-uk-box-office-despite-bad-reviews-as-johnny-english-3-beats-a-star-is-born/ https://briefnews.eu/venom-wins-uk-box-office-despite-bad-reviews-as-johnny-english-3-beats-a-star-is-born/#respond Mon, 08 Oct 2018 16:06:58 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/venom-wins-uk-box-office-despite-bad-reviews-as-johnny-english-3-beats-a-star-is-born/

According to ScreenDaily, the movie has opened with £8 million – of which £5.6 million was the Friday-Sunday weekend period, and the rest was previews on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Tom Hardy-fronted movie, based on a popular Marvel Comics favourite, had received cold reviews from critics, winning only a 31% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

But it seems to have resonated much more with moviegoers: it has a B+ score from viewers on CinemaScore, and in the US it easily shattered Gravity’s record to earn the best October opening of all time.

For comparison, Spider-Man Homecoming – the title character of which shares a universe with Venom in the comics – opened to £9.4 million in 2017.

That movie went on to earn £30.7 million overall in the UK, and though it seems unlikely that Venom will go quite that high, bosses will no doubt be relieved that the negative buzz from critics didn’t affect ticket sales.

It was a tough marketplace this weekend, but Johnny English Strikes Again managed to beat A Star Is Born.

The third movie in the Rowan Atkinson-starring spy comedy opened to £4.1 million, over a million more than Bradley Cooper’s drama.

A Star Is Born, which also stars Lady Gaga, made £900,000 from previews as well, putting it overall at £4 million in this country so far – £100,000 behind Johnny English 3.

For comparison there, Johnny English’s first film opened with just £3.4 million back in 2003, while Johnny English Reborn in 2011 arrived to the tune of £5 million – so this latest instalment has arrived in between the two.

Despite coming third, though, forecasters expect A Star Is Born to have much longer legs and hang around in cinemas significantly longer than its rivals – particularly if the ongoing Oscars buzz is maintained.

Elsewhere, former number one The House With A Clock In Its Walls dipped to No4 in its third week on the market; earning another £902,203 to rack up a cumulative total of £6.8 million.

The Top 5 is completed by last week’s chart-topper Night School, dropping to £859,330 in its second week on release.

Hitting screens this coming weekend are Bad Times At The El Royale, an all-star thriller starring Jon Hamm and Dakota Johnson among others.

First Man, another Oscar-bait movie, is also out – with Ryan Gosling reuniting with the La La Land director to portray Neil Armstrong.

In more family-friendly viewing, high-profile animation Small Foot also lands on our shores on Friday.

GOP congresswoman Martha McSally beats back challengers in Arizona primary, but her embrace of Trump’s agenda could be risky https://briefnews.eu/gop-congresswoman-martha-mcsally-beats-back-challengers-in-arizona-primary-but-her-embrace-of-trumps-agenda-could-be-risky/ https://briefnews.eu/gop-congresswoman-martha-mcsally-beats-back-challengers-in-arizona-primary-but-her-embrace-of-trumps-agenda-could-be-risky/#respond Wed, 29 Aug 2018 05:17:35 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/gop-congresswoman-martha-mcsally-beats-back-challengers-in-arizona-primary-but-her-embrace-of-trumps-agenda-could-be-risky/ Martha McSallyNicole Neri/Reuters

  • Republican Rep. Martha McSally beat back conservative challengers for her party’s nomination in a crucial Senate race in Arizona.
  • She will face Kyrsten Sinema, a well-funded moderate Democratic congresswoman.
  • McSally embraced Trump and his agenda, despite his hard-line immigration policies that could alienate an evolving voter base in the state.
  • Arizona voted for Trump by 3.5 percentage points in 2016, but Democrats are buoyed both by its rapidly diversifying electorate and by a national political environment favoring their candidates.

Republican US Representative Martha McSally’s embrace of President Donald Trump and his agenda paid off on Tuesday, when the Arizonan beat back conservative challengers for her party’s nomination in a crucial US Senate race.

But Republican strategists warned that her shift to the right on Trump and his hard-line immigration policies could also prove an albatross in November, when she will face a well-funded moderate Democratic congresswoman, Kyrsten Sinema, in a race expected to be tight.

Big boat in big trouble? UK beats ‘Russia threat’ drums as its new aircraft carrier heads for trials https://briefnews.eu/big-boat-in-big-trouble-uk-beats-russia-threat-drums-as-its-new-aircraft-carrier-heads-for-trials/ https://briefnews.eu/big-boat-in-big-trouble-uk-beats-russia-threat-drums-as-its-new-aircraft-carrier-heads-for-trials/#respond Sat, 18 Aug 2018 20:12:22 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/big-boat-in-big-trouble-uk-beats-russia-threat-drums-as-its-new-aircraft-carrier-heads-for-trials/ The Royal Navy is sending its brand new £3 billion HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier to the US for trials. The ship will be well guarded, yet Navy bigwigs are still complaining about “frightening” Russians who might target it.

Top officers of the Navy have shared their concerns ahead of the first big journey of the behemoth 71,650-ton aircraft carrier across the Atlantic to the US. The ship will undergo trials there and make a port call in New York.

“Russian submarines are more active in the North Atlantic than they have been since the Cold War and we take that very seriously,” said Commodore Andrew Betton, commander of the UK Carrier Strike Group. “The ship will be well protected as she makes her transit across the Atlantic.”

The captain of the HMS Queen Elizabeth, Jerry Kyd, took that sentiment even further, stating that the “frightening” Russian activities he supposedly saw over the past couple of years were “quite eye-watering.” Betton stressed that the Navy is “not seeking confrontation” and that the ship is heading to the US solely for “trials,” speaking as though the carrier group had actually received threats.

While a confrontation between the two marine powers is unlikely, the British and Russian military traded barbs last year over their flagships. Russian Defense Ministry called the HMS Queen Elizabeth a “big convenient marine target,” comparing it to a queen bee that is not capable of defending itself without a “hive” of other warships.

That comment was made in response to former British Defense Secretary Michael Fallon calling Russia’s battle-hardened aircraft-carrying cruiser the Admiral Kuznetsov “old and dilapidated,” adding that Moscow should “envy” the British ship.

The remarks by the top Royal Navy officers were promptly picked up by British media, which mainly put emphasis on the ‘big scary Russians’ part.

The articles “fit into the general tendency of replicating all sorts of false information in the context of the anti-Russian campaign,” the Russian embassy in the UK said in a statement. “The British simply have no real grounds for intimidating the public.”

The Royal Navy, along with British media, have indeed showed quite an obsession with “finding” and “intercepting” Russian warships and submarines sailing near Britain’s waters over the past few years. Even though the submarines were often not even in hiding, instead traveling openly in an underwater position, that did not stop the British media from hailing the Navy. In some extreme cases, Russian ships that were not even armed still required an escort from the Royal Navy.

Canada's Kylie Masse beats rivals for gold in backstroke thriller https://briefnews.eu/canadas-kylie-masse-beats-rivals-for-gold-in-backstroke-thriller/ https://briefnews.eu/canadas-kylie-masse-beats-rivals-for-gold-in-backstroke-thriller/#respond Fri, 10 Aug 2018 19:23:40 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/canadas-kylie-masse-beats-rivals-for-gold-in-backstroke-thriller/

Canada's Kylie Masse won gold in the women's 100-metre backstroke Friday at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Tokyo.

Masse, the reigning world champion in the event and the 2016 Olympic bronze medallist, out-touched former world champ Emily Seebohm of Australia and world-record holder Kathleen Baker of the United States in an exciting final.

Watch Masse beat her rivals for gold:

The reigning world champion from Lasalle, Ont. won gold in the women's 100-metre backstroke on Friday at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Tokyo. 2:42

Masse's time of 58.61 seconds put her just 0.11 of a second ahead of Seebohm and 0.22 ahead of Baker, the 2016 Olympic silver medallist.

Masse, 22, from LaSalle, Ont., had broken the meet record earlier with a 58.29 in the preliminary round.

The three medallists were the same at last year's world championships, when Baker finished second and Seebohm took third. Masse took the title away from Seebohm and set the world record in that race, only to see Baker break it this summer at the U.S. nationals.

"It's always a great race when they're in there for sure," Masse said. "It's great competition and we all push each other. We're also friendly with each other in the ready room, which I think is awesome. It's awesome for backstroke moving forward to have that kind of competitive rivalry."

Watch what Masse had to say about her big win:

Masse's victory was the second in as many days for a Canadian woman at this meet. On Thursday, Taylor Ruck defeated American superstar Katie Ledecky to win the 200-metre freestyle event.

Ruck added two more medals Friday. After taking bronze in the 100-metre freestyle, she teamed with Kayla Sanchez, Rebecca Smith and Mackenzie Padington for a bronze in the 4×200 freestyle relay.

Ruck's personal best of 52.72 seconds in the 100 was the second fastest in Canadian history, just 0.02 off Penny Oleksiak's Olympic gold-winning time. Australia's Cate Campbell won in 52.03, while Simone Manuel of the United States was second in 52.66.

"That was amazing, I can't even describe it. It was so cool to be part of that race," Ruck said. "I felt really good in that race. The first 50 I went out pretty good and smooth and the last 50 I just tried to hang on and tried to race Cate and Simone."

Watch how Ruck and her team try to keep her grounded:

Winning eight Commonwealth Games medals has put 18-year-old Taylor Ruck in high media demand, but her swimming coach leaves no room for distractions. 3:24

On the men's side, Mack Darragh of Oakville, Ont., finished fifth in the 200 butterfly, while Javier Acevado of Scarborough was fifth and Markus Thormeyer of Vancouver was sixth in the 100 backstroke.

The Pan Pacific Championships are happening two years out from the Tokyo Olympics. The meet features world swimming powers Australia and the United States and also includes other non-European countries such as Canada, Japan, China and several others.

CBCSports.ca's live streaming coverage continues Saturday at 5:10 a.m. ET and runs through the end of the meet on Sunday.

Rivard adds another para gold

At the Pan Pacific Para-Swimming Championships, being held in Australia, Canada's Aurélie Rivard captured gold for the second straight day, winning the women's 100-metre freestyle S10 Friday after breaking her own world record in the 400 free on opening night.

The 22-year-old's time of 59.45 was good for a 0.34-second win over New Zealand's Sophie Pascoe.

"It's my best time since the Rio Games, so it's really good," said Rivard, who set the S10 world record of 59.17 in 2015 before claiming Paralympic gold in 59.31 a year later. "I would have liked to go a little faster, but it still went well. I beat my rival and I'm really pleased with my race."
