ITV bosses have hinted at a new romance in Coronation Street after Gemma Winter (played by Dolly-Rose Campbell) was ousted as a mistress following her fling with Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall).

The affair put a strain on Gemma and good friend Chesney Brown’s (Sam Aston) friendship, but the pair will get back on track in this week.

Chesney will be at Gemma’s side when she finds out that Henry Newton (George Banks) has become engaged.

With Gemma torn by the upsetting news, Chesney offers her a shoulder to cry on and they reconnect.

It is this moment that suggests the two could become more than friends as Chesney has always harboured romantic feelings for Gemma.

“People can see that they would make a good pairing but for many different reasons it hasn’t happened.” Dolly-Rose said.

“There is always an obstacle in the way.”

When asked if Gemma has ever wanted to be more than friends with Chesney, she replied: “Yes, it did go through her mind after she broke up with Henry, but when Fiz said that he seemed embarrassed at the idea, Gemma took that to mean that he wasn’t interested.”

Despite this, Cathy Matthews (Melanie Hill) takes it upon herself to get the two together as she strongly believes they should be with one another.

“Cathy knows that they are destined to be together,” Dolly-Rose noted. “She wants to give it a helping hand along the way.”

It would seem Cathy’s meddling could one day pay off as newly released images show Chesney taking Gemma on a date.

The father-of-one invites Gemma out for lunch at the bistro so he can confess his feeling for her.

Unfortunately, the pair are interrupted by the arrival of Henry, who has been persistent in trying to win back Gemma.

Describing the scene, Dolly-Rose explained: “Chesney is just at the point where he is about to tell Gemma how he feels and that he wants the lunch meet up to be a date when Henry arrives out of the blue.

“[Henry] tells her his parents had forced him to get engaged and he wasn’t happy about it as he is still in love with Gemma.

“She isn’t sure whether to believe him and ends up leaving the Bistro and tells him to get lost, but Henry wants to prove that he is telling the truth and that he does care for her.”

She added: “In the end he tries to impress her with the grand romantic gesture of offering to buy the Rovers for them both to run as a business!

“It would be a new start for her, going into business doing something that she really enjoys with a man like Henry at her side. She could never have dreamed that could happen to her.”

With Henry attempting to win back Gemma will Chesney finally come clean about his feelings for her? Or could he lose her to Henry forever?

Coronation Street continues tonight on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.

But by the time I’d reached the top I was too exhausted to read anything.

Gasping for breath, I struggled to get even a few words out.

All I could do was watch as my partner Tom took over reading. I’d always loved being the one who tucked in Imogen, then three, and my son, Ethan, then nine, each night, ending their day with stories and cuddles.

However, it looked as if my weight might be about to take this special moment away.

I thought about my mum Hazel who had passed away 18 months earlier. She was just 60 when she died, so it was a big shock.

I missed her every day and that made me wonder about my own future.

I realised my children might end up losing their mum even younger unless I started looking after my health.

I was a size 14 when I had Ethan in my late teens. Juggling a boisterous toddler and studying biomedical science at university was quite a challenge.

While I made sure that he ate well, I got through the day on ready meals, takeaways and sugary snacks and slowly but surely the pounds piled on.

At last I’m the fun, active mum I always wanted to be. I’ve been maintaining my second target weight of 9st 5lb for six months.

When I discovered I was pregnant with Imogen at 25, I ate as much as I wanted.

In between meals I’d snack on crisps and chocolate.

Reality set in when we went for the 12-week scan. I cringed as I watched the sonographer move the scanning device over my naked tummy. My notes were mortifying.

The sonographer said that due to my excess weight our daughter’s measurements couldn’t be recorded accurately.

I vowed to slim down after giving birth but it never happened and I developed a secret eating habit. On my way to collect Ethan from school, I’d buy three chocolate bars and eat them all before hiding the wrappers.

After Imogen’s fi rst birthday, things got worse. Within weeks we lost Tom’s grandmother, my mum was diagnosed with cancer and passed away 13 days later and we were forced to move out of our rented house.

I was heartbroken and turned to food for comfort. Before long I was wearing size 20 clothes and found anything physical a real struggle.

Whenever Tom suggested going on a family walk I’d say I needed to do the vacuuming. The truth was I couldn’t walk more than a few steps without gasping for breath and running around the park with the kids was out of the question.

I refused to go swimming with Imogen. I thought everyone else in the pool would stare at me. Instead I would sit on the side and watch in envy as Tom splashed around with the kids. The bigger I got, the less I liked what I saw in the mirror. I lived in leggings and baggy tops and my stress levels would rise as soon as I was invited for a night out with friends.

I’d beg Tom to tell them we weren’t coming and eventually our friends just stopped inviting us out.

By now I was getting intense pains in my joints, especially my hips, and as I got bigger the pains got worse.

However, it was the night I chased Imogen up the stairs that I realised how much my weight was affecting my children and I decided to do something about it.

A couple of friends had joined Slimming World and I was impressed by how well they were doing. When I’d tried dieting in the past, I’d felt hungry and deprived so the idea of eating real food and losing weight appealed.

I was shaking with nerves as my sister Sarah and I walked into our local group.

I thought I’d be the biggest person in the room and everyone would stare. So when the other members were welcoming, it was such a relief.

Yet it was seven months before I dared to look at the scales and found out my starting weight had been 17st 11lb. When asked to set a target, I wasn’t sure.

“I’m never going to be a size eight,” I said. “Why not?” replied our leader Joanna. I decided to try. And when I was told I’d lost 9½lb in the first week, I was astounded.

After that nothing was going to stop me. We bought wholemeal bread instead of white and cut the fat off any meat.

I’d have overnight oats and fruit for breakfast, salmon and rice salad for lunch and cottage pie with lean beef mince for dinner. I could still have chocolate too.

We started sitting down together as a family for our evening meal and chatting about our day.

My confidence grew and I felt less shy about going out. Instead of driving Imogen to school I began walking and even jogging home. 

I bought a fitness tracker and now clock up 10,000 steps a day.

Then last March I told the children I’d go swimming with them. Although I’d lost more than 7st, I still felt nervous pulling on my swimming costume.

But as I stepped into the pool my worries faded away. It was so much fun being able to splash around with my family.

A month later I reached my 10st target and signed up for a 5km Race For Life event with Sarah.

I’d wanted to do one since we lost mum and as we crossed the finish line I was sure she’d have been proud of us both. Family life is so different now.

On Sundays we go for a walk in the country. I love chasing Imogen around the park, following her up climbing frames and having a kickabout with Ethan.

At last I’m the fun, active mum I always wanted to be. I’ve been maintaining my second target weight of 9st 5lb for six months.

I’m determined to enjoy every minute with my family and never miss a thing with my children.
