Who is that?! That’s the big question following Transplant‘s Season 1 finale on Tuesday, which concludes with Bash and his sister Amira spotting a familiar face at the hospital’s front desk. Amira immediately rushes to the Syrian woman and happily embraces her, while a stunned Bash looks on. Then he, too, approaches.
“I thought you were dead,” he says. And cut to black. Argh!
Elsewhere in the finale, Bash seeks out Claire to discuss Dr. Bishop, who made a critical mistake with their patient, resulting in a ruptured spleen and an internal review. Bash reveals that he spotted Bishop treating himself for post-concussive nausea. Claire, too, noticed some issues, but she had no idea his condition had progressed to vision issues. Claire confronts Bishop, who admits that the monitor went foggy while he was guiding Bash through the procedure. Claire notes that he promised them a future together, so he better call his neurosurgeon.
In the meantime, Dr. Bishop assures Bash that he plans to take full responsibility for the error before the board. Then, suddenly, his arm goes numb and he collapses from a possible stroke. Bishop’s outlook seems dire as he’s taken to emergency surgery for a potential aneurysm. Remember how Bash drilled into Bishop’s head in the pilot? Well, Bash thinks that might be the cause of Bishop’s problems. Mags reassures Bash that what’s happening is not his fault, and if anything, he saved Bishop’s life. She hugs Bash, and there’s definitely a moment where it feels like they’re going to kiss after they pull apart.
As Bash sits by an unconscious Bishop’s side, he recounts how he found his wounded dad back in Syria. “You must go,” his father commanded, so Bash left his dad there to die, he tearfully shares. Just like with Bishop, Bash blames himself for his father’s death. But in this case, Bishop lives and reunites with his son.
The incident spurs Bash to tell his sister the truth: He was too late to save their parents, and that’s why they’re alone. The last thing their father said to him was to find Amira and build a future for both of them. That’s how they ended up in Canada.
“We’re not alone because of you. We’re together because of you,” Amira sweetly tells him.
As for the rest of the docs, treating a terminally ill cystic fibrosis patient spurs Theo to make an unplanned visit to his wife. He apologizes for taking the job without talking her and says he can’t imagine life without his family. Meanwhile, June is encouraged by her supervisor to apply for the chief resident position.
What did you think of the Transplant season finale? And are you hoping NBC picks up the series for Season 2 (which has already been ordered in Canada)?

However, the Sheffield Shield’s mid-season hiatus has made it impossible for anybody outside the Test XI to truly demand selection.
Every Test, ODI, T20I, and BBL match live. SIGN UP NOW!
That sentiment applies to Australia’s fourth Test against India at the SCG but also the two-Test series against Sri Lanka that starts in Brisbane on January 24.
Matthew Renshaw, among the leading candidates to replace Finch at the top of the order, currently can’t get a game for the Brisbane Heat.
Marnus Labuschagne, a middle-order option who made his Test debut earlier this year, is also on drinks duty for the Heat.
Even for those playing in the BBL, it’s near-impossible to make a compelling case for a Test call-up.
Peter Handscomb’s polished knock of 70 for Melbourne Stars was an impressive response to being dropped, and the Test squad member may yet return for the series finale.
But the challenge posed by India’s attack at the SCG can hardly be compared to that of the Sydney Sixers in a Twenty20.
“Because there’s no Shield cricket being played at the moment due to the Big Bash League, it’s hard to pick someone who’s in form in the longer form,” former selector Mark Waugh wrote exclusively for Fox Sports.
“There’s no possible replacement really jumping out of the pack that’s not already in the Aussie Test squad. They’re still probably the best batsmen in the country.”
Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft’s suspensions are also obviously making life harder for Trevor Hohns’ panel.
Ricky Ponting, who nominated former Test keeper Matthew Wade as an in-form old hand capable of shoring up an inexperienced order, highlighted how the BBL is making life hard for Test aspirants and selectors.
“No-one’s played any Sheffield Shield cricket over the last few weeks to try to put up a case to get into the side,” Ponting told cricket.com.au.
“Some of our Shield players might get on a bit of a run … then Big Bash starts and they’re put on ice for another seven or eight weeks.”
That scenario has frustrated coaches, selectors and players in recent years but it’s unlikely to change given the commercial success that is the BBL.
Shane Warne and Steve Waugh headline the greats to have recently criticised Cricket Australia (CA) for devaluing the Shield, which was one of many topics covered in The Ethics Centre’s independent review.

Welcome to our live coverage of the first game of BBL 08 between the Heat and Strikers.
The Big Bash returns with the defending champion Adelaide Strikers travelling into the Gabba for a showdown against the Brisbane Heat.
In front of their home crowd, a stacked Brisbane batting line-up will be hoping to dismantle the Strikers’ bowling and ignite the crowd.
Adelaide will be looking to become only the second side to go back-to-back and claim the BBL crown and will be hopeful of getting off to a hot start.
The game is set to get underway at 7pm (AEDT).

‘Bash Brothers’ ready to unleash
It will be on for young and old when the Brisbane Heat unleash their new-look batting line-up in their Big Bash League opener against Adelaide Strikers at the Gabba.
Heat captain Chris Lynn tipped 19-year-old Max Bryant to be inspired by “old boy” Brendon McCullum and tee off against the defending BBL champions on Wednesday night.
Bryant has been welcomed into the Heat top three this summer by Lynn and former Black Caps star McCullum as a fellow “Bash Brother” after announcing his arrival in the recent domestic one-day tournament.
The teenager thrashed a half century against South Australia off 23 balls — the fastest in Queensland Bulls history.
Lynn hoped it was a sign of things to come in the BBL, tipping Bryant to find another gear alongside veteran master blaster McCullum at the top of the Heat order.
“He’s exciting, gives the ball a good whack. I just want him to keep calm, keep things simple like Brendon,” Lynn said.
“If he can follow suit we can ride the wave with each other’s success.
“But we know not all three of us are going to come off in the first game.”

Lynn said 37-year-old Kiwi McCullum would be just as influential on the Heat this season despite passing over the captaincy reins.
“The old boy is still throwing himself around at training. It’s always great to have him back on board, the energy he brings is really important,” he said.
“He will play a big part in me skippering this side. Over the last couple of years we have been helping each other out (with captaincy).
“And he’s in good nick at the moment, the old fella.”
Lynn hoped Brisbane’s new-look “Bash Brothers” find immediate success by punishing Queensland quicks Billy Stanlake and Michael Neser, who will spearhead the Strikers’ attack.
“They have had success before against us so we will try and throw a punch back at them,” he said.
“Billy is in for a show and obviously Brendon, Maxy and myself love pace on the ball.
“It will be an exciting contest. Hopefully there are balls flying around the park.”

THE first YouTube video, posted in 2005, showed the site’s 25-year-old co-founder standing in front of elephants at the San Diego zoo. One of its most recent videos is a little different: it shows Argentina’s president, Mauricio Macri, explaining why he needs the IMF to stand in front of the bears destroying his country’s currency.
The peso fell by more than 7% on August 29th, capping another difficult month. Its fall will make it harder for the central bank to meet next year’s inflation target, further undermining the institution’s credibility and the currency’s appeal. Argentina must also roll over or replace about $ 50bn of debt falling due over the remainder of 2018 and 2019. The financial markets worry that the government will struggle to secure both refinancing and re-election, since the sky-high interest rates required to attract creditors may further repel voters in the October 2019 elections.
On YouTube, Mr Macri asked the IMF to speed up disbursement of the $ …

Twenty volunteers have been selected by a German nightclub for a pioneering party in zero gravity. Although the 90-minute bash on board the Airbus A310 won’t cost them a penny, they may not enjoy it.
BigCityBeats, the German company behind the endeavor, recruited top-notch DJs, Dutch Armin van Buuren and American Steve Aoki, to entertain revelers during what is touted to be a mesmerizing but a rather challenging ride from Frankfurt and back.
The participants of the so-called zero gravity party will literally float in a weightless state for 25 minutes of the one and a half hour flight, which may prove to be more than enough. The redesigned A310 Airbus, also known as Zero G, allows passengers to experience 22 seconds of weightlessness as it moves in a parabolic trajectory. After a few seconds of zero gravity in a levelled position the plane nosedives before gaining altitude again. The maneuver is then repeated over a dozen times.
The rollercoaster ride, which is a part of regular cosmonaut and astronaut training, is known to take a heavy toll on a person’s wellbeing mid-flight and may cause nausea, hence the unofficial nickname “vomit comet.”
Despite the potentially less than pleasant side-effects, van Buuren is enthusiastic about the flight, that is scheduled to take off on February 7.
“You can make really unique dance moves, like twists in the air, that you wouldn’t normally be able to do on a dance floor,” he told AFP, adding that he sees the opportunity to perform in near-weightlessness, albeit simulated, as “an interesting science project.”
BigCityBeats says it has embarked on the ambitious project not only because no one had thrown such a party before, but also for the sake of uniting people with completely different cultural backgrounds. In order to make the party truly a versatile one, the Frankfurt-based company made sure all continents are represented by the 20 partygoers that made the final cut. Those who wished to participate had to submit a short video explaining why they must be chosen. A total of 55 people, including the crew, the artists and two European Space Agency astronauts, will be on board the plane.
Bernd Breiter, CEO of BigCityBeats, has already set eyes on an even more daring goal – to potentially send a party to the moon. “Since we are doing a lot of things which are unique, everybody was asking me – when do you fly to the moon?” he said. With the zero-gravity experiment they “are coming a little bit closer.”
Although the zero gravity may not feel great after a while, the result is definitely worth the trouble, as alt-rock band OK Go found out two years ago after it scored a hit with its “Upside Down & Inside Out” music video filmed in zero gravity. The group said it took them at least 20 rehearsal flights over a three week period before the video was eventually shot in one take.

https://briefnews.eu/bravo-dwayne-stars-bizarre-prep-for-big-bash-pays-off/#respondThu, 21 Dec 2017 18:35:24 +0000http://briefnews.eu/bravo-dwayne-stars-bizarre-prep-for-big-bash-pays-off/Desperate to make up for the disappointment of missing last year’s tournament through injury, Renegades all-rounder Dwayne Bravo sought out a new T10 league to sharpen the skills he displayed so superbly on Thursday night.
After the hometown Hobart Hurricanes had sprinted out of the blocks with a 53-run opening stand between Alex Doolan (26 off 21 balls) and D’Arcy Short (34 off 19), Bravo was called on to stem the bleeding and ravage the Hurricanes line-up.
He dismissed Doolan to slow the Hurricanes’ scoring and, after taking 2/7 in his first spell, returned at the tail of the innings to claim three further wickets — his haul of 5/28 the best ever by a Renegades bowler in the Big Bash and making him the first player to record 400 T20 wickets.
But if the odds weren’t already stacked heavily in the favour of batsmen in T20 matches, Bravo took part in the first T10 tournament played in Sharjah in India over three days earlier this month and says it helped hone the variations that he used to torment the Hurricanes batsmen in his side’s seven-wicket win.
“It’s really to test your skills,” Bravo told Channel 10 of the six-team T10 tournament that boasted many of the game’s most dynamic batsmen and skilful bowlers.
“For me I use it as preparation to challenge myself.
“Some of the better players in the world playing in that tournament at a very small ground so basically I get my variations and my yorkers right. It gives me confidence coming into this game.
“I challenged myself with my preparation coming to the Big Bash because I wanted to do well.
“Last time I missed out because of injury. I always want to start well in any tournament and happy that I did well in a winning performance.”
And in a stern warning to the rest of the Big Bash teams, Bravo expects his performances to improve as confidence grows in the hamstring injury that ended his BBL06 tournament 12 months ago.
“Fitness is good, a bit cautious because of what happened last season, so definitely I’ll be taking my time,” Bravo said.
“I think as the tournament progresses I’ll gain more confidence moving around.
“I have a good medical team with the Renegades so I feel comfortable with my body.”
After the Hurricanes’ bright start it was Bravo and Afghan off-spinner Mohammad Nabi (1/25) who dragged the ascendancy back the way of the Renegades. Hobart’s top scorers were Short and Ben McDermott (34 off 24) as each of the top five got past 20 but got little further.
There was a brief moment of hope for the Hurricanes when Clive Rose backed up after having the first ball of the innings hit for four to claim the dangerous Aaron Finch next ball, but a 113-run stand between Cameron White (79* off 59) and Marcus Harris (50 off 34) ensured the visitors could coast to a comfortable win, reaching the target of 165 with seven wickets and nine balls to spare.
HITS
Dwayne Bravo’s ability to use subtle variation to disrupt the batsman’s timing drove the Hurricanes crazy. They were deceived by the slow ones and caught out by the quicker ones and each different delivery landed exactly where it was supposed to.
It was a game-changing spell and a rare five-for in the shortened version of the game.
Bravo wasn’t the only West Indian to impress on Thursday night. Jofra Archer was making his Big Bash debut and the right-arm quick from Barbados showed skill with both bat and ball to suggest he will be one to watch in BBL07.
As the rest of the Hurricanes bowlers went for nine an over and higher, Archer took 2/17 at an economy rate of 4.25 to be the lone highlight in an otherwise disappointing bowling performance from an attack that relied too heavily on a pace barrage.
It must be somewhat tough on the soul for Victorian players who go from the Stars to the Renegades, but Cameron White proved he can still be a dominant force in the Big Bash with a faultless match-winning innings.
Coming in after just two deliveries, White used his extensive experience to first settle the situation and then accelerate alongside Harris, refusing to throw his wicket away as he steered his side successfully to their target with minimal fuss.
MISSES
The Hurricanes had a plan to ruffle the Renegades’ feathers with a pace barrage designed to blast batsmen out.
The only problem was that both Tymal Mills and Aaron Summers struggled with control to go with their speed and they were charging in to batsmen who love nothing more than having the ball come onto the bat.
It’s the slow stuff that the hitters struggle with, coach Gary Kirsten might need to think about a reshuffle for their next game against the Thunder.
If you’re in the crowd at a Big Bash game there’s a big chance a ball might end up coming your way. If it does, you’ll more than likely end up on TV so you want to give the best account of yourself.
One poor punter at Blundstone Arena not only dropped one chance over the fence but was caught out again shortly thereafter.
He was seen soon after walking from the ground, head bowed.
