Last weekend, the actress performed a Rumba which earned her a low score of 22 – her lowest score yet.

Some of the judges comments were brutal as head judge Shirley Ballas critiqued her routine and said: “The only timing I could read was the basic, alemana and the sliding doors, three bars of Rumba. The rest of it, I have no idea on what count you were dancing on.”

By contrast, judge Craig Revel Horwood complimented their story-telling, posture and frame.

Strictly 2019: Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas in HUGE row leaving Emma Barton near tears https://briefnews.eu/strictly-2019-anton-du-beke-and-shirley-ballas-in-huge-row-leaving-emma-barton-near-tears/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-2019-anton-du-beke-and-shirley-ballas-in-huge-row-leaving-emma-barton-near-tears/#respond Sun, 03 Nov 2019 10:56:46 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-2019-anton-du-beke-and-shirley-ballas-in-huge-row-leaving-emma-barton-near-tears/

Anton hit back: Sometimes there are four steps and three beats. Sometimes there are five steps and seven beats.

“Sometimes there are no steps,” he said, while shouting above the head judge.

Shirley didn’t let the interruption get to her, adding: “The first thing required in any dance is movement to music.

“You have to stay on time, thank you.”

Emma was close to tears when she heard the feedback, but managed to keep it together.

Does he ignore all that? “Personally, yes,” he says, “as I have no interest in any of it.” And yet, it’s not too hard to understand that, if a red-blooded male is wrapped around a good-looking female eight hours a day, six days a week, temptation might strike.

“Not to me. I’m already married to a good-looking female [businesswoman Hannah Summer]. I have two gorgeous children at home. Why would I want to cop off with someone else?” That doesn’t mean, though, that Anton doesn’t find the Strictly Curse rather an irritant.

“I have two attitudes to it. One is that we’re all adults; we make our own choices. The other is that the public and Press tend to concentrate on whatever is perceived to be the latest scandal. I find that annoying.

“Could we talk about the dancing, please? A drunken snog outside a pub isn’t really what Strictly’s meant to be about. You don’t want any of that to be what people remember about a show that I think is the best thing ever.”

That said, lovely stories can come out of the show, says Anton. “Look at Gorka and Gemma who fell in love and now have a beautiful little girl. And what about Pasha and Rachel who’re expecting their first child just before Christmas? “So it’s not all bad.”

He’s been partnered by everyone from politician and Daily Express columnist Ann Widdecombe to reality star Nancy Dell’Olio, from model Jerry Hall to fashion guru Susannah Constantine. And Anton retains an affection for them all.

“Can you remember who came third in Strictly the year before last, or the year before that? Of course not. But I bet you can remember Ann Widdecombe being dragged across the floor in a bright yellow dress or Nancy Dell’Olio climbing out of a coffin in the Halloween edition.”

Anton’s point is these people – comedy partners to all intents and purposes – helped create memorable TV moments. That said, you did not have to be a mind reader to know what Anton was thinking when host Tess Daly announced his partner this year would be Emma Barton, 42, most famous for playing Honey Mitchell in BBC soap EastEnders.

Even now, he can’t keep the silly smile off his face. “She’s got legs that go on for ever. She was trained in musical theatre. And she can really act which means she’ll know how to tell a story.”

Little wonder that Anton turned to camera and said out loud that he now knew what he’d be doing all the way up to Christmas (rather than getting voted off early).

“I didn’t want to seem disrespectful to anyone I’d danced with before. But I am so excited, I can’t tell you.”

The other newcomer on the hit show is judge Motsi Mabuse, 38, pro-dancer Oti’s big sister, and the replacement for Darcey Bussell.

“They should never have got rid of Arlene Phillips,” says Anton, pointedly. “I’m such an admirer of hers. But I suppose they couldn’t ask her back. Anyway, Motsi is a terrific addition. She has the great advantage of having been a judge on the German version of Strictly.

“Remember when Darcey first started and kept saying ‘Yah’ at the end of every sentence? She quite quickly became brilliant, though.

“And Shirley [Ballas] didn’t seem to know at the beginning whether to be critical or technical or what but she, too, rapidly found her feet.

“Not Motsi. She hit the ground running. And she knows what she’s talking about. I don’t want an ex-contestant on the panel; all they can offer is observations along the lines that they know how the celebrity feels because they were in the same position.

“Unless you’ve been a professional dancer, there’s no place for you on a judging panel.”

He doesn’t name her but Strictly winner-turned-judge Alesha Dixon fits that description.

There has been speculation that this might be Craig Revel Horwood’s last year on the panel.

“Yes, he made an unfortunate comment on the launch show about the celebrities doing well if they got up close and personal with their pro-partners. But I honestly don’t think the show would improve from his departure.

“He has so much experience. Strictly works better with Craig.”

That said, Anton would be a popular choice to replace him if it ever came to it.

“I’d rather dance on the show,” he says, “than judge for the time being. But I do know that, if they ever offered me the chance of being a judge and I turned it down, they wouldn’t offer again.”

And should that call never come, canny Anton has a second string to his bow. His first romantic novel, One Enchanted Evening, was the fourth best-selling debut title of 2018. And, as he can’t resist boasting: “It only came out in October.” He didn’t exactly have the complete story sitting and waiting for the follow-up, Moonlight Over Mayfair but, when he was writing the first novel, his publisher suggested that certain ideas could be held over for a second.

It carries on seamlessly from where the first left off. During his research, Anton stumbled across a real-life incident which fired his imagination.

The star is reluctant to go into too much detail but there was a pre-war assassination plot on King Edward VIII’s life. “That planted the seed of an idea. I was off and running.”

However Anton’s considerable energies are focused on Strictly, which he joined for the very first series in 2004. He still has a personal trainer, takes regular in theatre’ dancing classes and recently began both tap dancing and gymnastic classes. Anton is six feet tall and weighs 12 stone.

“My waistband hasn’t changed in over 35 years; it’s been 28 inches since I became an adult.”

He inherited a good body, he says, from his Spanish mother, Conchita. “I’ve never had any back problems or creaky knees. I’ve always competed, always stayed in good shape.

“It’s common sense. My attitude is, if it’s too heavy, put it down.”

Does that include Ann Widdecombe? He roars with laughter. “I think the trick was not to hold on to her for too long.”

He’s 53 now and doesn’t smoke, doesn’t drink.

“I tried a glass of wine once but musical didn’t like the taste. I’ve never touched it since. And I have a healthy diet. It’s been second nature all my adult life.”

Anton’s currently competing in his 17th Strictly. “I love being the last man standing.”

And this year, with Emma at his side, he’s hoping to be standing for longer than ever before.

Strictly Come Dancing’s 2019 line-up have only just started their journey but the pain of training is getting a little too tough to bear. The latest celebrity to fall victim of sore feet is Emma Barton, who appears to have been struggling in rehearsals throughout this week.

The EastEnders star is currently paired up with Anton Du Beke and he is certainly putting her through her paces.

It was revealed on It Takes Two Wednesday night  the Strictly competitor is battling against foot pain while practicing.

Presenter Gethin Jones was on hand to quiz former professional Ian Waite about how each couple is getting on with their training and talk turned to Emma and Anton.

The host asked: “Emma and Anton to start with…. Shirley [Ballas] said she saw flashes of brilliance in Emma last week.

Emma said she was “relieved” to be past the first elimination, adding: “I loved it so so much, I wish I could’ve done it again.

“It’s so weird, you can’t control the nerves and it’s a very hard routine [Foxtrot].

“The pressure was on a little bit because it’s Anton’s favourite dance.”

However, Rylan took the opportunity to take a swipe at Anton and his previous failures in the competition.

Strictly Come Dancing 2019: ‘Not what you want to hear’ Emma Barton on co-star rivalry https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2019-not-what-you-want-to-hear-emma-barton-on-co-star-rivalry/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2019-not-what-you-want-to-hear-emma-barton-on-co-star-rivalry/#respond Sat, 07 Sep 2019 04:34:08 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2019-not-what-you-want-to-hear-emma-barton-on-co-star-rivalry/

Emma Barton is set to strut her stuff on the Strictly Come Dancing dance floor during the BBC launch tonight.

Strictly fans will watch all 15 celebrities find out which professional dancers the stars are partners with.

The EastEnders star was announced for the line-up alongside former Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley.

Speaking to press including Express.co.uk, Emma discussed competing against her soap rival.

When asked if there’s a rivalry between the pair, she remarked: “I love her, no not at all.

“Not just Cath everyone of us we’re all gushing a little bit, I know that’s not what you want to hear but it’s a lovely group.”

Emma has previous dance experience from her West End career and admits this could be an advantage.

“I think it probably will [help],” she confessed. “The musicality side of it and the counting.

“I’ve never done any of the styles Strictly do before so that is all new I’m more of a jazz hands from my past.”

Despite being new to the dances Strictly features, Emma revealed she can’t wait to try ballroom.

She said: “The costumes, the music, the elegance, I love that.”

Fans of EastEnders who might fear Emma will be taking a back seat on the BBC soap needn’t worry.

“I’m still there, still doing the both,” Honey Mitchell star Emma confirmed.

“It’s lovely to be across the road, that’s going to be really handy.

“They’ve done that a lot over the last few years, EastEnders look after us very well Strictly will as well.

“I’m not shy of working hard I was not going to say no to this cause I knew I’d regret it so I just had to.”

Meanwhile BBC Breakfast sports presenter Mike Bushell revealed he turned to his colleagues for some advice.

He said: “I’ve got a lot of BBC Breakfast colleagues who have already done Strictly and two and of them won, so no pressure there.

“Carol Kirkwood and Naga Munchetty who did it said, ‘Please just go and enjoy it, put a smile on your face and don’t worry about it too much.”

Strictly Come Dancing starts tonight on BBC One at 7.50pm.

Emmerdale spoilers: Victoria Barton in turmoil after DANGER date? https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-victoria-barton-in-turmoil-after-danger-date/ https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-victoria-barton-in-turmoil-after-danger-date/#respond Wed, 07 Nov 2018 00:10:08 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-victoria-barton-in-turmoil-after-danger-date/

soap fans will see Victoria (played by Isabel Hodgins) go on a date, but become embroiled in danger.

Loyal viewers will know Adam Barton (Adam Thomas) has well and truly moved on from Victoria.

Ever since, the character has been in a bad place and is now determined to move on herself.

Victoria wants to show she can live a happy and successful life without Adam.

Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), Victoria’s brother, will be left fearing the worst after she begins a romance with Leon (Rob Norbury), the pub’s drayman.

Emmerdale viewers know Leon has a bad reputation and doesn’t treat women well.

Diane Sugden (Elizabeth Estensen) and Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano) will be sceptical and nervous when Victoria agrees to a second date with Leon.

As she heads out to meet him, Diane and Matty confirm their worries to each other.

Fuming at being judged, Victoria is annoyed that her date is clearly being monitored for “her safety”.

In a mini-revenge bid, Victoria ramps up her flirting towards Leon.

She then leaves the pub with him and takes him home.

In a quick show twist, Leon starts to kiss Victoria, with the latter reciprocating to prove a point to her family.

However, as he tries to push things along, Victoria becomes uncomfortable.

She quickly pushes him away and reveals to Leon that she’s not happy with the speed of their relationship.

Furious at the rejection, Leon shouts at Victoria while hurling personal abuse at her.

Robert will promptly arrive and chucks him out, before delivering a sharp warning to Leon to “stay away”.

Thankfully for Robert, Diane and Matty, Victoria sees Leon for what he is.

She uses the experience as a wakeup call, but is still unhappy with the interference from prying eyes.

Could Leon return, or will he get the message and heed Robert’s warning?

Emmerdale spoilers: Ross Barton star teases unexpected reconciliation following drug drama https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-ross-barton-star-teases-unexpected-reconciliation-following-drug-drama/ https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-ross-barton-star-teases-unexpected-reconciliation-following-drug-drama/#respond Fri, 17 Aug 2018 04:08:53 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-ross-barton-star-teases-unexpected-reconciliation-following-drug-drama/

Ross Barton (played by Michael Parr) hit rock bottom on Thursday’s double bill of Emmerdale when his secret drug addiction was exposed.

The mechanic started taking cocaine, a class A drug, after he was badly scarred during a horrific acid attack earlier this year.

His addiction gradually drove the people he cared most about away, including his brother Pete Barton (Anthony Quinlan), who announced he was thinking about moving in with his girlfriend Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry).

During last night’s instalment of the ITV show, Ross threw a house party to lift his spirits, however, his drug-fuelled behaviour upset many of his guests.

Despite Ross managing to keep his use of drugs a secret from the partygoers new friend Ryan Stocks (James Moore) realised something was terribly wrong when Ross briefly dropped his bag of cocaine.

Ryan was the last remaining guest at the party and tried to talk Ross out of taking drugs but he turned on him and kicked him out of his house.

To viewers it looked as those that was the end of Ross and Ryan’s budding friendship but Michael, who plays the drug addict, suggested they could make up in the future.

Tweeting about last night’s episode, Michael wrote: “Coked up Ross is an ar****le right? Loved working with @jamesmooreactor though. I would like the bromance to return! Would you?”

In response to Michael’s tweet, James penned: “Really enjoyed tonight’s episode. @MikeParrActor was fantastic as always, so much fun to work with and quite literally the life of the party!

“Thank you all for your wonderful tweets, having the time of my life in this role.”

Newcomer James was introduced as Charity Dingle’s (Emma Atkins) 27-year-old estranged son earlier this year.

His character suffers from Ataxic Cerebral Palsy and his father police officer DI Mark Bails (Rocky Marshall) abused Charity as a child.

Ahead of James’ debut, Emmerdale producer Kate Brooks promised Ryan’s arrival would throw a ”spanner in the works” and teased “unexpected twists” to come.

“We are absolutely delighted to welcome James to the show; an actor of real skill, talent and charisma,” she said.

“As to be expected with his Dingle heritage, the character of Ryan is feisty, funny and reckless, and with an unquenchable zest for life.”

She added: “Ryan will not only turn Charity’s life upside down, but also the wider Dingle clan as his arrival throws a massive spanner in the works.

“As Ryan navigates his newfound family ties and connects with the mother he never knew he had, it unearths yet another layer to Charity.”

Meanwhile, James said: “I’m so excited to have joined the Emmerdale cast. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly and I’m having a great time playing Ryan.

“I leapt a mile when I got the call and I was over the moon to hear that I had got the part.”

Emmerdale continues tonight at 7pm on ITV.

Emmerdale spoilers: Ross Barton soap EXIT revealed in unexpected Michael Parr twist? https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-ross-barton-soap-exit-revealed-in-unexpected-michael-parr-twist/ https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-ross-barton-soap-exit-revealed-in-unexpected-michael-parr-twist/#respond Mon, 16 Apr 2018 17:13:14 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-ross-barton-soap-exit-revealed-in-unexpected-michael-parr-twist/

The star joined Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on earlier today when he made the huge revelation.

Following a discussion about his acid attack storyline on the ITV soap, Michael revealed he now has plans to head to America.

The 31-year-old explained that he has a lot of connections to America.

Michael said: “My grandad fought in Vietnam and shipped the family over. My mum was born in Oregon and my mum in Mississippi.

“I feel like I’ve had a big American influence in my life, obviously because my mum’s American.

“I feel like it’s always calling me. At some point I will go. It’s calling me [to live there].

“I just think it would be so cool to just maybe do a year in New York or something.”

He then added: “And maybe go for it in LA and see if I can get some work out there.”

Phillip and Holly looked surprised but happy for the actor.

Michael went on to add: “I just want to be an actor that jobs.

“Someone who just pops up in a little episode of this or a little episode of that.

“I have no desire to be a huge superstar. I just want to act.”

When Phillip questioned him on a possible Emmerdale exit, Michael explained that he would stay for as long as the writers wanted to keep him for.

He smiled: “As long as I’m allowed. I’m going to keep trying.

“How long I’ll be in Emmerdale for? Well, as long as they keep writing for me.”

Ross went on to explain the impact his acid attack storyline has had on him.

He said: “He was very handsome, I’ll give him that. He was almost arrogant with it and now it’s all been stripped away from him.

“It’s been a very tough year, he’s lost his mum, dad and brother. Not just the acid, he’s got lots of things coming at him all at once.

“It’s a very sensitive subject, it’s a golden gift to act for an actor with so many different emotions. I’ve been very lucky.

“I don’t think there’s a piece of footage that I haven’t seen or studied to try and get into the mind-frame of people who have suffered.”

Michael then teased: “All secrets get out because there’s no secrets in soap. They all come out eventually.”

Emmerdale spoilers: Ross Barton sparks uproar as fans predict THIS Rebecca White twist https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-ross-barton-sparks-uproar-as-fans-predict-this-rebecca-white-twist/ https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-ross-barton-sparks-uproar-as-fans-predict-this-rebecca-white-twist/#respond Wed, 28 Mar 2018 20:37:18 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-ross-barton-sparks-uproar-as-fans-predict-this-rebecca-white-twist/

Emmerdale fan-favourite Ross (played by Michael Parr) has been struggling on the ITV soap ever since he suffered from his horrifying acid attack.

Yet tonight the former mechanic finally seemed to turn a corner as he wrote his statement for the police.

Tentatively attempting to get back to normality, Ross decided to go for a drink with his brother Pete Barton (Anthony Quinlan) but it ended badly.

One group of girls decided to play a sick prank on the recovering character with a bet on who could have a date with him.

Yet while Ross was unaware that the flirtation was merely a joke, Rebecca (Emily Head) heard the friends making fun of him when she should have been tending the bar.

Horrified and unable to prevent herself from getting involved, Rebecca entered into a shouting match with the punters.

Rather than praise the mother-of-one however, Ross suddenly emerged from the bathroom enraged at her behaviour.

Trying to explain what happened, Rebecca insisted: “I was just defending you.”

“Yeah loudly,” a furious Ross replied. “At least she was mocking me quietly.”

Gobsmacked by her friend’s reaction, Rebecca said feebly: “I’m sorry I was just trying to help.”

Things got worse as Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) suddenly appeared in a panic that no one was watching the bar.

With the echo of Charity demanding to know what had happened, Ross blamed Rebecca for the situation.

“Don’t look at me you don’t need my permission to start shooting your mouth off,” he spat.

Amid the drama, suspicious fans were confused at the sudden screen-time between Ross and Rebecca, who have barely spoken in months.

It makes sense that the pair could find common ground as Rebecca has suffered from her own torment this year following the horrific car accident caused by her nephew Lachlan White (Thomas Atkinson).

The ordeal left her sister Chrissie (Louise Marwood) and father Lawrence White (John Bowe) but Rebecca has brain damage and memory loss from the accident.

But is there another reason for her and Ross’ scenes? Viewers discussed the development on Twitter.

One person said: “I feel like this interaction with Ross and Rebecca has some other underlying reason behind it #Emmerdale.”

“There’s something about Ross and Rebecca. Definitely some unfinished business there! #Emmerdale,” another fan wrote.

A third shared their worries about the pair rekindling their former relationship, saying: “Not that I even care(which I absolutely do not) but if ‘they’ put Ross and Rebecca back together… I swear… wtf was the even point of 2017?…”

Emmerdale spoilers: Moira Barton’s SHOCK fate REVEALED in Finn Barton star’s awkward slip? https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-moira-bartons-shock-fate-revealed-in-finn-barton-stars-awkward-slip/ https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-moira-bartons-shock-fate-revealed-in-finn-barton-stars-awkward-slip/#respond Wed, 14 Mar 2018 19:24:39 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-moira-bartons-shock-fate-revealed-in-finn-barton-stars-awkward-slip/

Viewers will remember that Emmerdale threw a huge spanner in the works by revealing that psychopath Emma’s (played by Gillian Kearney) killer was actually the beloved Moira (Natalie J. Robb).

There were some harrowing times ahead for the character on the ITV soap, especially when Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) found out the truth and convinced her son Adam Barton (Adam Thomas) to take the fall.

Yet after some trying weeks for everyone involved, it seemed that fears for Moira’s future in the Dales were done and dusted when Emma’s sons Ross (Michael Parr) and Pete (Anthony Quinlan) made their peace and agreed to keep her horrific secret.

Now though, a strange turn of events has seen ex-cast member Joe appear to let slip what’s next in the mother-of-three’s storyline.

Speaking to OK! Magazine, the actor teased: “Well, you never know what’s going to come back and bite you on the bum do you?

“I’m sure that’ll be at the back of people’s minds. And obviously we know that things do come back to bite people.”

The 24-year-old went on to say that the sheer amount of people in the know about Moira’s dark secret is sure to provide a problem when it comes to keeping it from the police eventually.

“There’s a lot of people that know about Moira killing Emma, including Harriet [Finch] and Emma’s sons,” he continued. “So there’s every possibility that it could come back on her.”

It seems that Moira will eventually manage to atone for her sins by getting involved in someone else’s troubles. Could it be her partner Cain’s daughter Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb)?

Joe revealed: “You never know, Moira just might redeem herself by saving someone else’s life. You don’t know.”

Finn was killed in a tragic twist when Emma was convinced a foreign presence was after her in the forest during her final episodes.

Hearing movement, Emma panicked and fired a shot through the darkness but was absolutely broken when she realised it was her youngest son.

Since Finn and Emma’s death, Ross has faced an entirely new trauma when he was the victim of a horrific acid attack at the hands of drug dealer Simon McManus.

This week’s scenes have finally seen billionaire villain Joseph Tate (Ned Porteous) find out that his ex-girlfriend Debbie was behind the sick violence, so is Debbie’s number finally up?

Or will Moira and Cain save the day yet again?
