Sweet Honey BBQ Sauce

A classic type of BBQ sauce, honey-based sauces add just the right amount of sweetness to your meats, and this particular recipe takes things a step further by blending marijuana into the mix.

Any item you grill will match perfectly with this honey BBQ sauce. You may even want to use it as a sauce base for your sandwiches!

Texas-Style BBQ Sauce

You won’t get a more authentic BBQ sauce than a Texas-style version, and this recipe delivers in serious taste. And with a dab of cannabis included in the recipe, you can enjoy a nice buzz along with your dancing taste buds.

Final Thoughts

There are so many creative ways to enjoy cannabis, especially when it comes to edibles. While you can still enjoy the traditional cannabis cookie or other baked goods, adding marijuana to other food products like BBQ sauces is a unique way to enjoy the benefits of cannabis while tempting your taste buds at the same time.

Take your backyard barbeques to new heights with any one of these delicious cannabis-infused BBQ sauces!

This Old-School Barbecue Joint Is Known for Its Steaks… and Whip-Cracking https://briefnews.eu/this-old-school-barbecue-joint-is-known-for-its-steaks-and-whip-cracking/ https://briefnews.eu/this-old-school-barbecue-joint-is-known-for-its-steaks-and-whip-cracking/#respond Sun, 08 Jul 2018 15:11:58 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/this-old-school-barbecue-joint-is-known-for-its-steaks-and-whip-cracking/ The dessert menu at Cape Town’s Bar-B-Que Steakhouse is basic, but if you’re not feeling like something sweet — and if you ask nicely — chef and owner Marius Strauss will crack his kudu-and-bushbuck hide bullwhip for you. His copper bangles glinting in the headlights on always-busy Voortrekker Road, he’ll deftly maneuver the 10-foot strip of hide, sending earsplitting cracks into the grimy night sky. If you’re really lucky, he may even let you have a go.

Wedged between a bridal hire spot and a lawnmower hospital, Bar-B-Que Steakhouse has been serving up steaks, ribs and schnitzels since 1969. The 70-seat restaurant has a reputation for massive portions (“I always give big people a little extra,” says Strauss.) and even huger welcomes — Strauss makes a point of sitting down at every table for a chat, and he talks of “friends” not “customers.”

Nick Dall for OZY

That said, its dimly lit, wood-paneled interior is a monument to a chapter of South African history that many are trying to forget. The much-maligned old South African flag near the entrance gets quite a lot of flak on TripAdvisor, but Strauss says it “means fokol” to him and should be seen in context. The restaurant is chock-a-block with historical artifacts from the Great Trek, the Boer War and even Robben Island — most of which were there already when Strauss bought the place — in 1989!

The ladies’ ribs ($ 10), are big enough to down most rugby forwards.

Not that Bar-B-Que’s 2,000 monthly covers are complaining. The consistent quality of the food (Strauss grills every single dish himself — apart from the salads, which he says are “not food” — and boasts that his chip oil is “the cleanest in Cape Town”) coupled with his legendary hospitality means that dinner bookings are essential. Dining at the Bar-B-Que “has become a bit of a ritual for me,” says longtime regular Antony Schneider, who explains that it’s about a lot more than just the food: “It’s great to go somewhere with no pretense.”

The menu — almost as long as the bullwhip — includes quite a bit of seafood (calamari, fish, mussels) and a couple of veggie options (crumbed mushrooms, those salads), but most folks come here for the meat — and the cloyingly good sauces that smother it. The ladies’ ribs ($ 10) are big enough to down most rugby forwards, and the monkey gland rump ($ 13 for at least 300 grams of dry-aged SA beef smothered in a tangy tomato and chutney sauce) is a true South African classic. All meals come with fries, rice or a baked potato — and a mandatory dollop of sweet pumpkin. And a half-liter carafe of the surprisingly smooth house red will set you back only $ 4.50.

Schnitzel lovers can choose from an array of toppings ranging from simple to audacious. The sliced banana, ham and hot cheddar cheese on the Copacabana are probably a bridge too far for most. But that’s precisely the point — dining at the Bar-B-Que Steakhouse is all about abandoning your comfort zone. As Strauss always says, “On a bad gravel road, never ever swerve for a rabbit.”

Go There: Bar-B-Que Steakhouse

  • Location: The Bar-B-Que Steakhouse is in a grimy but perfectly safe part of town about 10 miles from the city center. An Uber will set you back around $ 17. Map.
  • Hours: Open for lunch Tuesdays to Fridays (12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.) and dinner Tuesdays to Saturdays (6:15 p.m. until late).
  • Pro Tip: The Namaqualand Special ($ 23) is advertised as “1 kilogram rump for the very hungry,” but it usually weighs closer to 1.3 kilograms, according to Strauss.

Screw Brooklyn Barbecue — Go Here Instead https://briefnews.eu/screw-brooklyn-barbecue-go-here-instead/ https://briefnews.eu/screw-brooklyn-barbecue-go-here-instead/#respond Fri, 29 Jun 2018 13:30:23 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/screw-brooklyn-barbecue-go-here-instead/ This spring, the Vice food site Munchies asked a seemingly innocuous question. The response nearly broke the internet.

It was the sad meat stack that launched a thousand tweets — the latest in the war over barbecue that is much more cultural than culinary, argues Cooking Light Editor-in-Chief Hunter Lewis. “Of course, Southerners feel like barbecue is their birthright,” part of the reason the Brooklyn tweet was taken so personally, Lewis says. But it’s like a lot of other regional foods, in that “it will always bring up this good-natured ribbing because it’s regional … like arguing over college football. Then you’ve got that inherent rub of the North vs. the South, that old saw.”

img 20180328 115853

Which is all fair. But in that tradition of competitive jerking, let’s submit a counter to Brooklyn barbecue: the much-beloved offerings of Allen & Son Barbeque, tantalizing North Carolina taste buds outside Chapel Hill since the ’70s. Painted cinder block and wood paneling cover the outside, the inside with square tables and kitchen cloth — the nonfussy hallmarks of barbecue. The owner, Keith Allen, can be seen in the kitchen, sweating away, and will stop to say hi at your table if you give him a wave, but don’t expect him to stay for long. When asked for an interview, he replied he was “pretty busy.” Could he take a call when he wasn’t working? “I’m always working,” the white-haired maestro replies cheekily.

Order the Bar-B-Que Tray ($ 9.50), which comes with slaw and hush puppies well worth the resulting food coma.

Allen is known to arrive as early as 4 a.m. to haul and split hickory, whacking away with a steel wedge and maul. A brick fireplace is its final destination, where the wood settles into coals. It’s a different raw material than the fires burning in Texas, says Texas A&M animal science professor Jeff Savell, who teaches a popular class on barbecue. “Most of it is post oak,” a common tree in the Lone Star State, he says, but regardless of regionalism, the important thing is to use a low-temperature but robust wood fire, and to make sure the smoke burns cleanly. “It’s the combination of the two that provides the magic,” Savell says.

On the table, the sweet tea, delivered in large mason jars, is a must. Simple is best here: Order the Bar-B-Que Tray ($ 9.50), which comes with slaw and hush puppies well worth the resulting food coma. The sauce is especially important because by itself, pork-based barbecue is “a blander food,” Savell says. Those seasonings complement the pork, he adds, while in a state like Texas, where beef is the norm, the sauce might not be quite as crucial. The North Carolina-style may have its critics too, from those who prefer the sweetness of Kansas City, the white sauce in Alabama or even (God forbid) the mustard base of South Carolina.

img 20180328 114038

Sure, you would have to be a true die-hard to center a trip to the Tar Heel State around barbecue. But then again, this is no ordinary joint. Lewis has called the fixin’s here “the best sandwich ever,” and notes that the meat is a hybrid technique: a mix between the Western style of using smoked shoulders, and the Eastern sauce, a clear vinegar that soaks into the meat and gives it a nice puckering taste. “It’s right at the nexus between eastern North Carolina and western North Carolina,” Lewis says, fitting its geographic bearings along Interstate 40 too — the perfect compliment to any Eastern road trip.

This Week In Trailers: Killing Hasselhoff, In the Radiant City, Celebrate Studio Ghibli, Barbecue, Lucky https://briefnews.eu/this-week-in-trailers-killing-hasselhoff-in-the-radiant-city-celebrate-studio-ghibli-barbecue-lucky/ https://briefnews.eu/this-week-in-trailers-killing-hasselhoff-in-the-radiant-city-celebrate-studio-ghibli-barbecue-lucky/#respond Sat, 15 Jul 2017 16:22:39 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/this-week-in-trailers-killing-hasselhoff-in-the-radiant-city-celebrate-studio-ghibli-barbecue-lucky/ Green Band Trailer

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: What better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? This week we get a personal glimpse into murder, sit through the longest excruciatingly awful trailer so you don’t have to, watch an actor at the top of their craft, marvel at one of the best events you won’t be able to attend, and man the grill as we look at the history of roasting meats over a flame.

In The Radiant City Trailer

Dubus.

This kind of movie just feels like a Dubus short story. Director Rachel Lambert is making her feature debut with a firecracker of a story that feels haunting and tense, coated in a patina of pain. I love it all. Additionally, this is being produced by Jeff Nichols who only helps to increase the value proposition of a movie that’s going to be available On Demand next week. Win-Win.

Lucky Trailer

Pretty in Pink or Alien. For me, it was Pretty in Pink.

It was one of those two films who many would come to know Henry Dean Stanton. This trailer doesn’t seem so much as an advertisement for a movie as it does a sizzle reel for Stanton’s acting. The story here seems downright sad while being somewhat optimistic about the future ahead for our protagonist. I’m sure entirely what director John Carroll Lynch, himself a great three name character actor, is going for but the scenes that are left to breathe show why Stanton has stuck around for as long as he has. It’s vibrant and has an electric hum that makes this one to keep track of.

Celebrate Studio Ghibli Trailer

August 24th – September 20th.

Lucky are those who live in New Zealand and Australia who get a festival of their own whereby 22 Studio Ghibli films will be playing at cinemas all around these two territories. Sure, many of you have these as Blu-rays, DVDs, imports, what have you, but the chance to indulge in seeing these on the big screen with perhaps your kids in tow, finally something other than Boss Baby for you to have to sit through, is a marvelous opportunity. Entirely jealous for the lot of you who are able to attend. Amazingly well-done and sumptuous trailer to boot, too.

Barbecue Trailer

Fascinated.

I’m not sure how deep and how life-affirming the message is in director Matthew Salleh’s doc on flaming meats over a heat source but as someone who genuinely is entranced by watching food documentaries and finds them oddly soothing this is exactly my jam. The multitude of stories being told from all over the world is really the hook here as is the steady pace at which we observe people preparing food to be consumed. It’s almost meditative to see these things happening before our eyes, as the mundane-ness of everyday living can sometimes be the most fascinating when looking at another culture.

Killing Hasselhoff Trailer

When I see bad trailers I try and shield you from them. It does me no good to punch downward on something that dozens of talented folks have put a lot of work in trying to produce. However, when director Darren Grant, who can be credited for starting the ball rolling with our culture’s fascination with the cinematic permutations of Madea with Diary of a Mad Black Woman, should know better. I’m a little shocked, to be honest, at how painfully unfunny, cringey, and messy this whole thing is. See for yourself. Or not. You’d be better off not.

Nota bene: If you have any suggestions of trailers to possibly be included in this column, even have a trailer of your own to pitch, please let me know by sending me a note at Christopher_Stipp@yahoo.com or look me up via Twitter at @Stipp

In case you missed them, here are the other trailers we covered at /Film this week:

Hot off the grill: Fugitive mob boss busted at barbecue in rural Italy https://briefnews.eu/hot-off-the-grill-fugitive-mob-boss-busted-at-barbecue-in-rural-italy/ https://briefnews.eu/hot-off-the-grill-fugitive-mob-boss-busted-at-barbecue-in-rural-italy/#respond Fri, 14 Apr 2017 23:26:03 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/hot-off-the-grill-fugitive-mob-boss-busted-at-barbecue-in-rural-italy/

Police in Italy have arrested a fugitive mafia boss while he was in the middle of a barbecue with his wife at a villa in a picturesque Tuscan town.

Concetto Bonaccorsi, 56, absconded from prison in Naples last September while on a three-day release, police announced on Friday. He had since been pursued by members of the Italian Police’s ‘Flying Squad’ who nabbed him Thursday in the town of of Montecatini.

Bonaccorsi is reportedly the head of the Cappello-Bonaccorsi clan, a mafia family from Catania, the second largest city on the Italian island of Sicily.

The mafia capo was serving a life sentence for murder, mafia association, illegal disposal of bodies and drug trafficking.

Police following his wife spotted the mafioso on the villa’s balcony before swooping in to put the cuffs on. In typical mob boss fashion, the fugitive did not put up any resistance and was led away by police without incident.

This is not the first time Mrs. Bonaccorsi has seen her husband hauled off by police. In 1991, he was arrested as he was about to get married at a church in Catania. However, he managed to persuade police to allow him say his vows before being carted off.

Bonaccorsi is regarded as an important figure in the history of the Italian mafia; his murder of a rival mob boss sparked a war between clans that left over 100 people dead.
