Warning: The following contains spoilers for The Boys Season 2, Episode 4. Proceed at your own risk! On this Friday’s The Boys, Homelander faced his worst enemy: himself. Literally! In the episode, the supe flew off to a cabin to reunite with… Madelyn Stillwell?! While Elisabeth Shue did return to reprise her role, it was actually Doppelganger who was taking on her form, per Homelander’s instructions. At first, the leader of The Seven sought out Faux Stillwell for milk and whatever you want to call their twisted relationship. But when that no longer seemed to do the trick, Doppelganger morphed into Homelander and started to seduce the real Homelander! Confronted with himself, Homelander eventually declared, “I don’t need everyone to love me. I don’t need anyone. I. Don’t. Need. You.” Then to really drive home the point (and convince himself?), Homelander killed Doppelganger. Below, his portrayer Antony Starr breaks down the “bizarre” scene and what it says about Homelander’s needy nature. TVLINE | What was your reaction when you read the Homelander vs. Homelander scene in the script for the first time? TVLINE | That scene says a lot about the psychology of Homelander. TVLINE | I’m betting that when you did it previously, the context was quite different. TVLINE | And you probably weren’t wearing a dress like you were on The Boys. TVLINE | When you were filming the scene, did you ever have a moment where you were like, “What am I doing? This is so odd.” TVLINE | When Doppelganger changes from Stillwell into Homelander, what’s going through our Homelander’s mind when he sees himself, and he’s being so suggestive? TVLINE | And the dialogue is so pointed in that moment. He says, “You’re pathetic. I don’t need everyone to love me. I don’t need anyone. I don’t need you.” TVLINE | I find it really interesting that he says he doesn’t need anyone, and he shows a lot of disdain for people, but at the same time, as we really see in Episode 5 next week, he’s so desperate for everyone’s approval. The Boys fans, what did you think of Episode 4? Grade it below, then hit the comments with your thoughts! I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! returned to ITV for a Saturday night instalment and those watching at home tuned in to see all twelve celebrity campmates take part in a Bushtucker Trial. Before that, viewers were shown footage from earlier that day and ask the Jailhouse Camp woke up to the sounds of the Australian outback, they also woke up to ants infesting their precious food recourses. And for Kate Garraway, who clearly hadn’t had enough sleep, she snapped at Andrew Maxwell when he suggested she remove the fruit. It came as those in Jailhouse Camp were getting themselves ready for the day. Together they were deciding what to have for breakfast and Andrew suggested: “Banana rice for breakfast anyone?” “Banana rice for breakfast that’s fabulous!” Kate commented. “I don’t think I can choke on banana rice,” the Irish comedian remarked in reference to the camel meat he choked on last night. “That’s when you kick off,” the EastEnders star continued to explain. Those watching at home then saw Andrew in the Bush Telegraph and he said: “I get hangry just before every meal. It turns out that’s just my trait. My wife did warn me.” Back at camp, Kate and Jacqueline joked: “It goes between ‘chatter chatter chatter, lovely, lovely, lovely’ to ‘Kate get them out! The bananas! Get them out! There’s an ant!’” However those watching at home were confused as to why they even had bananas in the jungle. I got really excited. I thought it was very obviously a strange and really crazy bananas scene. But then I also loved that it was deeply rooted in, really, how screwed up this character in that he’s fabricated this imaginary circumstance for himself to try and find some sort of solid ground, psychologically, and it just all implodes. It’s a fascinating, bizarre and weird scene, and what I love about the show is that when we have these crazy scenes that just seem so insane and nuts, they’re often rooted very deeply in something for the character.
Yeah, very much so. That whole sequence, the cabin sequence, let’s call it, is really pretty messed up. It’s a pretty bizarre thing to go and do. But it’s a lot of fun as well. I watched that scene, and I was like, “Wow, it’s appalling but hysterical.”
TVLINE | What was it like to film opposite yourself?
It’s pretty weird. I did a show in New Zealand where I played twins for six years, so I’m quite familiar with doing scenes with myself. It’s something I’ve done quite a lot of. So I knew what to expect going in and how much more you have to work. We have another actor that’s there, and you’ve got to guide them and direct them through what you want them to do, so that you can repeat and react to things when it flips around. So it’s really complicated and very, very technical, and thank God I had done it for quite a while prior to The Boys, so it went very smoothly. Actually, it was a hell of a lot of fun.
It couldn’t have been more different. It was a comedy drama in New Zealand called Outrageous Fortune. It was popular years and years and years ago, but it turns out all that twin stuff came in handy.
I was not in women’s lingerie that I can remember, but it was a long time ago, like I said. I’d have to check. [Laughs] But I’m pretty sure it was quite different.
I’m not going to lie: I have moments like that all the time, whether it’s just about the general job that I do or whether it’s a specific moment, no more so than when we’ve been making this show. This show has some moments where I’m just scratching my head going, “Wow, are we really going to do that? Am I actually reading that correctly?” and then I see it on the screen, and I love it.
TVLINE | Do you think it’s a crutch that Homelander still needs Stillwell and needs Doppelganger to pretend to be Stillwell for him?
Yeah. Right off the bat, I saw Homelander as the strongest, physically, and absolutely the weakest character on the show, emotionally and psychologically. … [Without Stillwell], there’s no buffer between him and the corporate giant that is [Vought], and also, there’s no one massaging his ego into place and keeping him, in this bizarre Oedipal way, upright and on an even keel, really. When problems come up, it would’ve been dealt with by Madelyn running interference. He just doesn’t know how to cope. The beginning of Season 2, basically, through to the end, he’s really trying to find some sense of equilibrium again. And that’s in large part because he just disintegrated Madelyn Stillwell’s face. [Laughs]
I remember, on the day, just giving so many different options that just go everywhere. We did some where I laughed hysterically, and then some where I bulged my eyes out, and some where I didn’t know how to react, and I think a lot of that was used. But it’s a very surreal moment of clarity for Homelander when he sees himself and how weak he is and how needy he is. At the same time that he’s disgusted and repulsed by that, there’s also an empathy for himself, for the little boy in him. It’s a very bizarre, surreal moment that we tried to layer a lot into it. I’d have to see it again, but I think most of that came through in, really, quite a demented sort of situation.
Part of this character is he is a little boy. He is a little boy that is going through emotional puberty, maybe, whereby his emotions got cut off very early on in his life, and now he’s reached a point, for whatever reason, where he wants more out of life. Since the beginning of Season 1, he’s been trying to expand and get better and bigger. Maybe he thinks he’s a god and deserves to be elevated to that status in everyone’s eyes. And then the issue is that he just doesn’t know how to cope with some of the things that are coming up and a lot of the effect of the causes he’s created. It’s a bit of a rollercoaster ride for Homelander. The poor old dear has got a lot to learn.
He is, in a sense, the most emotionally vulnerable, neediest, weakest character, one hundred percent, on the show. The eternal dilemma for Homelander is that what he loathes most about himself is his humanity, but that’s also such a strong part of what makes him who he is: that need and that want and that desire to connect with someone or anyone, really. He’s just so isolated. So he’s a whole big bag of contradictions and contrasting ideas. He’s a very, very screwed up dude.

HOW to live longer: Avoid an early death by eating a healthy, balanced diet, and by doing regular exercise. You could lower your risk of an early death by eating bananas – but how many should you be adding to your diet every week?![]()
Eating a healthy balanced diet – including at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day – could lower the risk of an early death, according to the NHS.
You could also boost your lifespan by doing regular exercise – the “miracle cure” we’ve all been waiting for, it said.
Making some small diet or lifestyle changes could help to increase your life expectancy and avoid an early death.
Eating bananas could help you to live longer, nutritionists have revealed. They could lower the risk of cancer, as well as high blood pressure.
Everyone should aim to eat between three and four bananas every week, according to dietitian Juliette Kellow and nutritionist Dr Sarah Brewer.
They contain potassium, which helps to lower blood pressure, and could even reduce the chances of developing kidney cancer, they claimed.
Raw bananas provide the best nutrient benefits, they said in their book ‘Eat Better Live Longer – Understand What Your Body Needs To Stay Healthy’.
“Whether you like your bananas slightly green or freckly, they all come with triple levels of mood-boosting powers,” they said.
“They are good sources of carbohydrates [fuel for the brain and muscles], and of tryptophan and vitamin B6 [both of which are needed for production of feel-good chemicals].
“What’s more, bananas improve digestion and may help regulate blood pressure.
“However you like to eat your bananas is a personal preference, but their benefits do vary with ripeness. Enjoy three to four bananas a week.
“Bananas will ripen at home – if you want to speed up the process, keep them in a bunch or with other fruits.”
The fruit contains small amounts of an amino acid, known as tryptophan. This is converted into serotonin in the brain.
Low levels of serotonin have been linked to depression, while higher amounts of the chemical could protect against it.
Eating bananas could also make you feel fuller for longer, as they’re rich in a fibre called pectin, the nutritionists added.
The best way to live a healthy life is to eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day, and to do plenty of exercise.
Regular exercise is a crucial aspect to improving overall health, and helping you to live longer.
People that do regular exercise are up to 50 per cent less likely to develop type 2 diabetes and some cancers, said the NHS.
It may even slash the chances of coronary heart disease and stroke by up to 35 per cent.
All UK adults should aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity every week.

The Star Trek film universe is in a strange place right now. Star Trek 4 has run into some problems, as Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth have both dropped out due to salary disagreements. And then there’s Quentin Tarantino‘s puzzling R-rated Star Trek film that Paramount seems very interested in making at some point.
Karl Urban, who is expected to appear in both Star Trek 4 and Tarantino’s Star Trek, offered up some info on the later project, going so far as to call Tarantino’s idea “bananas.” Strong words!
Quentin Tarantino is currently shooting Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but once he wraps that, the filmmaker is expected to climb aboard the starship Enterprise to bring his wild R-rated Star Trek idea to life. As previously reported, Tarantino pitched an idea for an R-rated Trek to J.J. Abrams, who liked the concept so much he set Tarantino up with a meeting at Paramount. Paramount, in turn, was also impressed with Tarantino’s idea, and assembled a writers room to help hash it out.
Beyond the alleged R-rating, we don’t know a whole lot about Tarantino’s Trek, other than the fact that the filmmaker wants to use the current Star Trek franchise movie cast to star. One of those cast members is Karl Urban, who plays miserable space doctor Leonard “Bones” McCoy. Urban recently appeared at the Trekonderoga convention, where he offered up some insight into Tarantino’s Star Trek (via Trek Movie). The actor didn’t give any plot specifics, but he did confirm that Tarantino’s idea is a bit out-there:
“Quentin Tarantino went in to [producer] J.J. [Abrams]’s offices and pitched him an idea for a Star Trek movie. I know a little bit about what that is, and it’s bananas. So, they are writing that as well. He is currently making a film with Brad Pitt and and [Leonardo] DiCaprio [Once Upon a Time in Hollywood]. So, it is going to be a year away from finishing that.”
Just what, specifically, is “bananas” about Tarantino’s Trek idea remains to be seen, but the potential craziness could have something to do with the proposed R-rating. As Urban tells it, though, the film isn’t going to be rated R because of non-stop vulgarity, but rather to better portray the horrors and dangers of space:
“You shouldn’t worry that it is going to be full of obscenity and stuff. He wants an R-rating to really make those beats of consequence land. If it’s not PG, if someone gets sucked out into space, which we have all seen before, we might see them get disemboweled first…It allows some some breadth…gives him some leeway to do that. To me, that was always one of the things I loved about what DeForest Kelley did. He would actually capture the horror of space. That look in his eyes of sheer terror always struck me when I was a kid.”
And what of Star Trek 4? The film, which is set to be helmed by S.J. Clarkson, ran into trouble recently when Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth both walked away due to salary issues. Their departure is a fairly big deal, because Pine, as Captain Kirk, is the lead of the film, and Hemsworth, playing Kirk’s father, factors heavily into the story – which involves Kirk reunited with his dead dad via some sort of time travel trickery. There’s always a chance Paramount could re-cast these parts, but Urban thinks everything will work out in the end.
“Hopefully, we get back for another movie, or two of them,” the actor said. “We are just sort of waiting on negotiations. I’m confident we will… I believe the status of the project is really hinging on the availability and the contract negotiations of the two Chrises.”
But what happens if negotiations don’t work out? Urban thinks that would be the perfect opportunity to make the Tarantino Star Trek movie first:
“It is in the hands of Paramount..if we don’t get to make [Star Trek 4] next year with Chris Hemsworth, then that’s okay, let’s make a really good Quentin Tarantino Star Trek movie. You will have to wait longer, but it will be well worth it.”
Of course, Tarantino would want Chris Pine to come back for his Trek as well, which also might complicate matters. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see how this all plays out. Sooner or later, one or both of these films will be made. Hopefully.

During the first half of the show, it seems a woman – under the influence of alcohol – began hurling the fruit at the cast.
After being asked to stop by front of house staff, the unrest escalated – according to WhatsOnStage.
She was swiftly ejected while the show was momentarily halted.
Performer Jodie Jacobs tweeted afterwards: “SHOUT OUT to the woman who got bungalowed at @BananamanShow and began throwing ACTUAL EARTHLY BANANAS at the cast!!
“She had her party poppers confiscated too! One for the autobiography!”
Co-star Emma Ralston posted: “It’s true. Tonight a drunk lady in the Bananaman audience threw 2 bananas at cast members. A theatrical first. WOW.”
Alex David Vass wrote on his own page: “And the award for most awful audience member I’ve ever witnessed goes to the woman tonight in the front row of Bananaman at @swkplay who, additional to talking continuously, threw a banana at a cast member not once but two times.
“How does ANYONE deem that acceptable in a theatre?”
Another performer joked that the intruder could have been given a cameo, saying: “It was funny for 2 seconds but seriously….what did she think she was doing?!
“Had she come to rehearsals we could have given her a cameo!”
Bananaman plays until January 20.
Is Amazon becoming a ‘Banana Republic’? Its Community Banana Stand staffed by “banistas” and “bananagers” offers the fruit for free to anyone in the community. The internet retailer expanded the gimmick to the nation’s capital to celebrate its Prime Day.
Since Amazon began its banana stand in 2015, the online giant has distributed 1.7 million of the tropical fruit, but local retailers are split on the move and watching a dip in their sales.
The banana stand was the brainstorm of the company’s founder and CEO, Jeff Bezos, who thought everyone near its headquarters in Seattle, Washington should get a health, eco-friendly snack as a public service. The company first considered oranges but instead went for bananas.
Starting in 2015, the banistas passed out more than 1.7 million of the tropical yellow fruit, averaging 4,500 a day.
“My favorite thing about the banana stand is the unlimited supply of bananas,” said one patron in a company video.
The stand is open Monday through Friday at Amazon’s South Lake Union campus, and expanded to a second location at the Denny Regrade.
The public and their friends like the free gift.
There is a downside to offering the freebies, though, and it’s not comedic pratfall: Amazon is altering local banana sales.
Nearby businesses like the vegetarian café Anar had to rethink how it uses bananas in its food and drinks after patrons suddenly stopped ordering banana smoothies. Other retailers have stopped selling the fruit all together or keeping fewer, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Nearby restaurant owners have also complained that patrons are forgetting their banana manners by bringing in outside fruit and leaving the peels behind.
Other establishments are capitalizing on the banana frenzy and have added extra banana-based treats to their menus.
The stands have no plans to switch to other fruits anytime soon.
Banistas told the Wall Street Journal people have requested avocados and more, but the cost is just prohibitive so they are sticking with the potassium-rich item.
A third community banana stand opened up to greet commuters outside Union Station in Washington, DC on Tuesday morning with “banistas” passing out the fruit for free.
The temporary installation is to mark on the company’s annual “Prime Day,” a Black-Friday-like day of shopping deals for people who subscribe to Amazon Prime. The banana-ganza will be followed by a series of “special policy sessions” and other events around Capitol Hill, DCist reported.
Other retailers are also using gimmicks to attract more customers.
On Tuesday, Chick-fil-A restaurants are giving away food as part of its 13th annual Cow Appreciation Day ‒ as long as customers dress up like a cow.
“Adult customers who dress in any type of cow attire, whether it’s ‘head-to-hoof’ or sporting a cow-spotted accessory, will be rewarded with a free Chick-fil-A entrée,” the company announced.
Cow-clad customers can chose any item on the menu, except for salads.
But why cows when the company is known for its chicken sandwiches? The company has long featured cows in its advertising, using the chickens to deflect from their own slaughter.
Not to be left out in the summer season silliness, the 7-Eleven convenience chain chose to mark its 90th birthday by upping its annual July 11 tradition from one day to a whole week of free (small) Slurpees, while supplies last.
“7-Eleven Day is a celebration, not only of our birthday, but more importantly, of our customers,” Laura Gordon, 7-Eleven’s marketing vice president, said in a statement. “Ninety years is a big birthday, and our customers are the ones who got us here.”
Slurpees, which turned 50 last year, debuted at 7-Eleven in 1966. The free slurpee tradition began in 2002.
Slurpees come in a vast array of flavors, including wild cherry, lemonade, watermelon lime, and a new, limited-edition flavor: cotton candy. The special is made up of 18 grams of sugar with a mix of ingredients including high fructose corn syrup and artificial colors… and is bound to give people brain freeze.

The lower bracket seems like a strange place for a match-up like Evil Geniuses and Wings Gaming to happen, but in the first round of the Dota 2 Asia Championships bracket, both teams found themselves on their last leg in a best-of-one match. Back against the wall, both teams turned to oddball strategies, leading to one wild ride of a match.
The draft stage, where each team picks and bans heroes from a pool of over 100 characters to compose their team lineup, was normal to start. As the game commenced and carried on though, it was the Panda Brewmaster and Invoker combination on Wings Gaming that raised some eyebrows.
Panda Brewmaster’s ultimate splits him into three separate, fully controllable pandas representing the three elements Earth, Wind and Fire. These pandas have their own grooves and specialties, but it’s the Earth’s that is important: the Earth Panda does 300 percent damage to buildings. Combine this with Invoker’s Alacrity spell, which massively boosts attack speed, and you have this exact moment below, where Brewmaster can rush down a set of barracks and escape with little worry.
This strategy, alongside a few rough teamfights for Evil Geniuses, swung a game that was mildly in its favor to one that was vastly against it. Wings’ Doom was locking down Artour “Arteezy” Babaev’s Spectre at every turn with his eponymous ultimate, and Zhou “bLink” Yang’s Invoker was easily controlling every large-scale fight.
At this point, it was time for Evil Geniuses’ strategy to kick into gear. The Monkey King is a recent introduction to Dota 2, the first hero that didn’t originate in Defense of the Ancients, and was recently added to the competitive mode. Despite being a carry, some teams have been experimenting with him in the support role, particularly Evil Geniuses.
In the hands of EG’s Ludwig “zai” Wåhlberg, Monkey King was both an effective roaming support and a game-winning hero. Monkey King’s ultimate creates a circle, surrounded by copies of himself that attack enemies inside. Though they do less damage than the real Monkey King, they still apply any effects he might have from items, so his Desolator (which removes armor with every attack) and Abyssal Blade (which has a chance to stun with every attack) can run over the team and set his own up for an easy win.
At this point, EG had been rebuffed from Wings’ base several times, so smelling blood in the water, the team keeps the pressure on. Within four minutes EG is putting the enemy ancient in check, and Wings has to respond. Once again, Wåhlberg’s ultimate, combined with Puck (who was having a great game in the hands of Saahil “UNiVeRsE” Arora) holding Wings down with an ultimate of its own, Evil Geniuses secured the win against the champions of The International 6.
After the game, Dota stats man Ben Steenhuisen noted on Twitter that Wåhlberg’s game was fifth-highest all-time in Monkey King stuns (he also holds the second-highest spot as well). When you see a bunch of players in your pub games playing Monkey King support this coming week, just remember to thank Evil Geniuses.
