“He was thrilled by the way everything had gone and what he loved, was to do the things.”

Michael shared Tom’s disbelief at being able to take part in events such as the Royal Variety Show and bagging a number one single in the UK charts.

“There wasn’t a moment where he ever felt, ‘This isn’t right, I want to pull back from this.’

“He grasped every opportunity, he loved it and he knew he was doing the right thing, he felt in his heart of hearts,” Michael gushed.

The One Show airs weekdays from 7pm on BBC One.

“In memory of our friend Bobby Ball,” was shown on-screen alongside a snap of the legendary comic.

And it didn’t take long for BBC viewers to weigh in with their thoughts on the episode, with a number left reaching for the tissues.

Taking to Twitter, one said: “Saw Bobby Ball on #notgoingout last night, very very sad at his death from COVID he is such a loss to us all. Rock On Bobbie!”

“Watching the inimitable and funny Bobby Ball in the #notgoingout Xmas special. Already much missed,” echoed a second.

However, as Michael continued reading, he struggled to get his words out, adding: “I’m daycationing, I stayed… I don’t understand!”

The host attempted to add: “Stay at home and do day trips,” but his co-host couldn’t help but laugh as it came out muddled.

As those in the studio started laughing at the blunder, Michael let out a sigh, admitting defeat and going on to remark: “I’m good, aren’t I?”

But things continued to go off-script as Alex was left unable to speak in hysterics after Michael asked: “Did you understand a word of that?” to which she nodded in disagreement.

Drag Race All Stars Top 4 Ru-vealed! Who Got Burned at the Backyard Ball? https://briefnews.eu/drag-race-all-stars-top-4-ru-vealed-who-got-burned-at-the-backyard-ball/ https://briefnews.eu/drag-race-all-stars-top-4-ru-vealed-who-got-burned-at-the-backyard-ball/#respond Sat, 11 Jul 2020 02:01:22 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/drag-race-all-stars-top-4-ru-vealed-who-got-burned-at-the-backyard-ball/

RELATED STORIES

On Friday’s Drag Race All Stars, RuPaul gave the girls a sewing challenge and she gave us what we like.(Sorry.) But before the remaining five queens could strut their stuff at the Charles Family Backyard Ball, they had some issues to work through.

Picking up shortly after India Ferrah’s elimination, the episode began with Alexis Mateo tearfully thanking the girls for standing by her after last week’s scandal. Because only one person (India) voted to send her home, Alexis assumed that no one believed India’s claims of a conspiracy against Shea Coulee. However, Shea was quick to clarify that she strongly considered giving Alexis the chop and that she’d be keeping an eye on her moving forward.

The India-Alexis drama came up a second time when the queens discovered personalized letters from India at their work stations. None of the letters were especially, ahem, noteworthy… except for one: “Alexis, I still love you,” India wrote. “Open your heart.” After reading the oddly cryptic message a few times, Alexis said what we were all thinking: “You don’t love me, bitch.” Accurate.

Then came this week’s maxi challenge: Using store-bought backyard accoutrements, the queens had to create characters (complete with backstories and earth-shattering family secrets!) to attend Ru’s down-home soiree. This would be followed by a “backyard eleganza” runway, to which Jujubee posed a very fair question: “What the f–k is backyard eleganza? I don’t have a backyard. I live in Boston.”

The end result, like most family gatherings, was a mixed bag of nuts. Miz Cracker had the judges laughing as Ru’s evil cousin on the hunt for a kidney, Jujubee and her big floppy hat made an iconic entrance (“Sorry I’m late, I didn’t want to come!”); Blair’s “stanky” character brought enough baby food and amoxicillin for everyone; Shea (aka Shea-quita, aka “Li’l Kiki”) rocked a Grandrea Zuckerwoman shirt; and Alexis played a… salsa-dancing beauty student? It was a choice.

Overall, the queens found more success on the runway this week. Cracker brought Fifth Avenue to the backyard with an upscale-yet-sporty look, Jujubee rocked a fruity little number, dubbing herself “the watermelon lady”; Blair gave us a half-baked taste of “high-fashion couture”; Shea served backyard bridal realness; and Alexis donned a big red dress… with a baby pool underneath. Another choice! (Shout-out to Shea for apparently helping most of her competitors, by the way. When I heard her say “If one of us looks good, we all look good,” I couldn’t help but wonder… is it possible for a queen to win the whole season and take home Miss Congeniality?)

Drag Race All Stars RecapGiven her consistent performances in both the challenge and the runway this week, Cracker was a no-brainer pick for top All Star. But could she stand her ground against lip sync assassin Roxxxy Andrews? Cracker put up a pretty decent fight, but the minute Roxxxy dropped her feather coat — let alone when she stripped down to that bodysuit with “thick and juicy” on the butt — it was game over.

With a heavy heart, Roxxxy announced that the queen voted to get the chop was… Alexis Mateo. At least she sashayed away looking sickening, no?

Do you think the right queen went home this week? Cast your vote in the poll below, then drop a comment with your thoughts on the Top 4: Shea, Cracker, Jujubee and Blair.

Latest Masked Singer Castoff Talks Jarring First Run-Through: ‘Everything Was a Disco Ball’ https://briefnews.eu/latest-masked-singer-castoff-talks-jarring-first-run-through-everything-was-a-disco-ball/ https://briefnews.eu/latest-masked-singer-castoff-talks-jarring-first-run-through-everything-was-a-disco-ball/#respond Thu, 30 Apr 2020 12:02:13 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/latest-masked-singer-castoff-talks-jarring-first-run-through-everything-was-a-disco-ball/ Season 3 of The Masked Singer was one small step for Astronaut, but a giant leap for the man inside the shiny suit: singer/songwriter Hunter Hayes, who left the show Wednesday. (Read a full recap.)

Taking part in the oddball music competition “gave me the chance to live two lives at once,” says Hayes, the wunderkind who performed on Rosie O’Donnell’s daytime talk show and America’s Most Talented Kids and is now a 28-year-old country artist/multiple Grammy nominee. “It was hilarious. Because I would head off first thing in the morning and do the show, and it blew the doors wide open.”

the-masked-singer-season-3-hunter-hayes-astronautIn a chat with TVLine Wednesday, Hayes explains how the time he spent in Los Angeles “was like a personal boot camp” in which he spent his mornings in Astronaut’s suit and afternoons writing songs for upcoming album, Red Sky. “It gave me a chance to clear my head and clear any boundaries I had set for myself, remove any filters that were still hanging on,” he recalls. “I would just come back to the house and start working on the album with a totally different perspective. There’s no other way I could have gotten that.”

Read on to hear Hayes’ thoughts on his run (including the number that nearly did him in).

TVLINE | The first episode you were in, I was tooling around online after, and people were immediately guessing you — which is a lovely testament to your fandom, but what was your reaction when you saw them guessing you so early on?
It was amazing. At first, yeah, your thought is, “Please don’t guess me.” Because the show was fun. I didn’t set any expectations. I had goals — I wanted to make it as far as I possibly could — but at the same time, I didn’t want to set myself up for anything. So every day was a gift, which drove my producers crazy. Because I was secretly competitive but also trying to enjoy it. But honestly, it wasn’t while I was taping the show, because you have no idea how people are going to react until the show airs. But when the show aired and people guessed me, honestly it was humbling. It was so reassuring, affirming, all those things. It boosted my self-confidence because it was like, they know me from anywhere. I can literally dress up in a costume, wear a mask and not say a word and still connect with music. It gave me so much renewed faith. It reminded me, I guess, of how you can still make a connection with music, even if you’re under a helmet. [Laughs]

TVLINE | A lot of your clue packages talked about wanting to distance yourself from things that had happened in the past and make a fresh start. What went into your decision to make The Masked Singer your fresh start?
I had just released part one of a three-part album series called Wild Blue, and I was going in to make Part 2. These are not concept albums, but the trilogy was meant that this is very much is a time of growth for me in my music, in my career, in myself. Part 2, Red Sky, is very much about change and moving forward and [the unknown]. Part 1 is more about dreaming about it, but Part 2 is about doing it. I knew we were going to spend the better part of this year in Los Angeles, whereas normally my home is in Nashville, Tenn. I knew that I wanted to travel to make this record because I had to be in unknown places and experience unknown things. [The Masked Singer] came up, and I was like, “Oh my God, how perfect is this?” It gives me a chance to work on the record.

TVLINE | You’re in Nashville right now?
I am in Nashville, yes.

TVLINE | What do your days look like right now? Are your days structured, with regard to songwriting?
I’m not structured at all. [Laughs] My team is, and everyone else around me is. I begged for them to be structured, because I have no structure. About a year ago, I had a little room in my house that was the studio. Then I decided, well, I’m a single guy. I’ve got this whole house to myself, and two dogs. Now every room in my house is a studio. My days right now are just wake up, breathe, and dive into music, which is brilliant. I’m doing the best with this forced quarantine and forced being off the road to say “OK, let me go finish this album.” We’re finishing it one song at a time, which is the way that I finished Wild Blue, and it’s been a brilliant experience. It’s allowed me to really dive in and make sure that this record is everything I want it to be.

TVLINE | Did you ever watch The Masked Singer in the same room as your dogs? Did they know it was you?
Ironically, I never did. It’s funny you ask. I never did. Most of the watching of the show that we did was out in L.A., and I couldn’t bring my pups on that trip, unfortunately. I should go back and watch it, or maybe watch it tonight with them. I wonder if they would figure out if it was me. Sounds like a fun game.

TVLINE | This is what we’ve come to in our quarantine: “This sounds like a fun idea.”
[Laughs] Yup.

TVLINE | Talk to me about the visibility in that helmet, which seemed like it gave you a better ability to see than your competitors’ costumes did.
There were trade-offs. The visibility was incredible. It was relatively easy to breathe in. But at the same time the sacrifice there was that because there’s a risk of people seeing your face, we had to cover it with this shiny material. In rehearsals, it was easy. When the lights came on, and there was a spotlight on you, everything was a disco ball. The only changes we made to the suit were based on movement. When I first tried it on, I was like, “Yeah, this is awesome!” Then when I got to the first day of dancing in the suit, I realized we had to make some major changes. I didn’t want to go all the way because I knew that going all the way would sacrifice the integrity of the suit… it was challenging, but I think that was a good thing for me, because I had to go from accepting what the suit wanted me to do to making the suit do what I wanted it to do. And learning that I could move, even though my instinct would get to a certain place and feel like I couldn’t move past that point, but I totally could. I just had to get used to that and get out of my head. Which, honestly, this whole show was about me getting out of my head, so…

TVLINE | Did you have any slight panic attacks during the performance?
“Shape of You” scared the s–t out of me. The steps that I was on were so easy. In rehearsal, it’s nothing. In my normal shows in the past, I run. I jump. There’s tons of stuff. So I wasn’t worried about it until we got into dress rehearsal with the lights and everything. I was so scared. That’s why there were two people on the staircase with me, because originally, they were supposed to help me down, because I couldn’t see the steps. That whole performance was really challenging. There were a couple of things there we had to change at the last minute just to keep me from falling on my helmet.

Britain’s Got Talent 2019: Viewers slam Michael Ball for ‘ruining’ Susan Boyle performance https://briefnews.eu/britains-got-talent-2019-viewers-slam-michael-ball-for-ruining-susan-boyle-performance/ https://briefnews.eu/britains-got-talent-2019-viewers-slam-michael-ball-for-ruining-susan-boyle-performance/#respond Mon, 03 Jun 2019 09:25:36 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/britains-got-talent-2019-viewers-slam-michael-ball-for-ruining-susan-boyle-performance/

As the 2019 edition of the ITV contest wrapped up last night, former contestants Susan and Diversity each delivered a performance.

Susan, who first auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent ten years ago, sang alone first before being joined on stage by Michael.

The pair sang a duet of A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman.

However, some of those watching at home weren’t too impressed with Michael’s involvement in the rendition.

Many were quick to opine that it should have been left to Susan to do a solo.

“Watching #Bgt michael ball has totally failed Susan Boyle she would have sung much better without him #subo,” one tweeted.

Another said: “#BGT Not sure why Michael Ball was ruining Susan’s performance she certainly didn’t need him there. Prefer her solo?”

“Michael Ball absolutley ruined Susan Boyle’s song and moment. Travesty. #BGT #BGTFinal,” a third added.

While a fourth suggested: “Michael Ball should’ve left it to Susan Boyle. Dreadful #BGT.”

However, other viewers enjoyed the performance and took to Twitter to comment.

“Susan Boyle, a true national treasure #BGT,” one shared.

Another wrote: “Susan Boyle is still as amazing as ever #BGT.”

“Susan Boyle , Michael Ball OMG amazing #bgt,” a third opined.

While a fourth declared: “#bgt love Michael and Susan singing.”

The series was won by war veteran Colin Thackery who sang Love Changes Everything last night.

Colin has bagged a slot in the Royal Variety Performance as well as the £250,000 prize money.

One of the big shocks of the night came as X divulged his real identity in a dramatic unveiling.

It transpired he was in fact 2018 contestant Marc Spelmann, who didn’t make the final last year.

The judges, along with Ant and Dec, were completely flabbergasted by the reveal.

Marc as X came in second place next to Chelsea Pensioner Colin.

Britain’s Got Talent is available to watch on ITV Hub.

Project Runway All Stars Recap: Whose Ball Gown Wasn't Fit to Be Thai'd? https://briefnews.eu/project-runway-all-stars-recap-whose-ball-gown-wasnt-fit-to-be-thaid/ https://briefnews.eu/project-runway-all-stars-recap-whose-ball-gown-wasnt-fit-to-be-thaid/#respond Thu, 14 Mar 2019 02:07:38 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/project-runway-all-stars-recap-whose-ball-gown-wasnt-fit-to-be-thaid/

Royal fever swept Wednesday’s Project Runway All Stars, which tasked the remaining five designers with creating ball gowns using luxurious silks. To elevate this experience, the challenge was presented by special guest judge Nina Garcia, a longtime member of Runway’s royal court.

And while tensions certainly ran high this week, the outcome was fairly predictable. From the moment the challenge was announced, Irina Shabayeva’s fellow contestants projected that she would win, given her extensive gown-designing experience. And even though she did come out on top with her “dynamite” design — a modern, sexier version of a ball gown that would be more suited for a young royal — she didn’t appreciate everyone assuming that the win would come easily to her, like she didn’t need to work hard for it. (I sure hope someone on the plane plays the world’s tiniest violin for Irina during her all-expenses-paid trip to Thailand.)

Meanwhile, Dmitry Sholokhov’s Downton Abbey-approved black-and-floral dress earned him a spot in the “safe” zone this week, as did Evan Biddell’s red pleated number. (For what it’s worth, the judges said Evan’s design nearly earned him the win over Irina.)

That leaves us with this week’s bottom two: Michelle Lesniak and Anthony Ryan Auld, both of whom made Isaac Mizrahi “mad” with their haphazard nonsense gowns. Michelle immediately regretted the colors she picked up at Mood (Anthony Ryan likened them to Starburst flavors), and even though she felt the finished product was somewhat “charming,” she didn’t like the way it moved — nor did the judges, who agreed it wasn’t an appropriate outfit for a royal ball. As for Anthony’s feathery ensemble, the judges called it “sad” and “awkward,” with Isaac straight-up saying he didn’t understand it.

“I have mentally prepared to go home,” Anthony Ryan said at the top of the hour, which was good, because he was indeed the designer eliminated this week.

Do you think he should have been the one sent packing, or would you have kept him over Michelle? Drop a comment with your thoughts below.

Strictly Come Dancing 2018: Zoe Ball consoles crying Ashley Roberts – but what happened? https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2018-zoe-ball-consoles-crying-ashley-roberts-but-what-happened/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2018-zoe-ball-consoles-crying-ashley-roberts-but-what-happened/#respond Tue, 27 Nov 2018 20:43:08 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2018-zoe-ball-consoles-crying-ashley-roberts-but-what-happened/

2018 contestant Ashley Roberts appeared on It Takes Two tonight to discuss her near-exit with host Zoe Ball.

However, in a skit for It Takes Two, Ashley was seen to pretend to be in tears with Zoe having to console the stricken dancer.

Of course, it was all part of a joke as Ashley acted a scene from Les Misérables.

Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton will perform an American Smooth (Foxtrot) to I Dreamed A Dream for Musicals Week.

As part of Tunes on Tuesday, Zoe was helped by the Strictly contestants to explore the themes.

Zoe said: “It’s time for Tunes on Tuesday, Musicals Edition! It’s showtime everyone.

“Back to serve up this week’s Ballroom bangers, it’s DJ Whiplash! We are going all out tonight.

“Let’s see which couple is first up tonight. Okay, here we go.”

The screen then revealed Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton.

Ashley walked out in a cloak crying, as Pasha waved the French flag.

Zoe continued: “I Dreamed A Dream from Les Misérables. Les Mis is the longest running musical in West End history, with over 13,550 performances under its belt.”

Pretending to break down, Ashley then hugged Zoe as the host said: “It’s going to be alright love! It’s all going to be fine.”

Zoe chuckled: “If you thought Vicky Gill worked hard – check this out!

“Each performance requires 392 complete costumes and 31 wigs!”

The presenter then cut the music and snapped: “It’s just too miserable!”

As Ashley was taken out of shot, Zoe shouted: “Get that girl some tea!”

It comes as the first Strictly couples to appear on next year’s Strictly Come Dancing UK Arena Tour were announced earlier today.

Stacey and Aljaž Škorjanec, Dr Ranj Singh and Janette Manrara, and Joe Sugg and Dianne Buswell will all take part in the tour.

They will all join tour host Ore Oduba and the live judging panel made up of Craig Revel Horwood, Dame Darcey Bussell, Shirley Ballas and Bruno Tonioli.

It Takes Two airs weekdays on  Two at 5pm.
