The demon who manipulated Sam into drinking demon blood on Supernatural may hold the key to solving the Winchesters’ problems.

On Monday’s episode (The CW, 8/7c), Genevieve Padalecki reprises her role as Ruby, when the “search for the one thing that may give the Winchesters an edge against God leads Sam and Dean to Jo’s (guest star Danneel Ackles) door and to a secret that may have died with Ruby,” per the official synopsis.

Below, the tight-lipped Padalecki teases Ruby’s “scary” reunion with Sam and Dean, and opens up about what it was like to return to acting while being a full-time mom to her three children with Supernatural leading man Jared Padalecki.

Supernatural The French MistakeTVLINE | I know death doesn’t mean the end on Supernatural, but it has been 11 seasons since Ruby died. Did you think you would ever get to play her again?
I think I was always really hopeful, especially after coming back in “The French Mistake” and having so much fun. I was always hopeful that I would get the opportunity again to come back and play Ruby. I don’t know if I expected it, but I was definitely keeping my fingers crossed.

TVLINE | Was it something that you talked about with Jared or the producers over the years?
No, but I think around the time after “The French Mistake,” I always made it known that when the show was coming to a close or if there was a certain story plot or storyline, I would always love to come back. The show, for me, personally [and] selfishly, has always been such an important part of my family that I always wanted to be a part of it in the end. I always made that known to the producers and Jared and everyone. So I felt really grateful when there was an opportunity for me to come back.

TVLINE | How did it feel to be back on set as Ruby? I’m sure you’ve been back on set in other capacities over the years…
It was really cool. It was really special. It’s definitely a different feeling coming on as my husband’s wife and saying “hi,” in his work environment. [It is] a totally other experience when you’re stepping on the set as a character, and seeing people in a work environment and feeling part of the crew and the team. So that is such an exciting feeling. I really enjoyed being on set. I love to work, I love acting. So for me, being able to have my family and have three kids and then be able to jump right back in and start working in this capacity, I couldn’t ask for a better scenario. It was a dream come true for me. It was a lot of fun, and I just definitely felt like I jumped right back in and I was part of the team again.

TVLINE | What did you miss most about playing Ruby?
I missed her kind of grit and darkness. And I missed how she can be a bit of a badass and a little bit conniving. She’s got an agenda. I think Gen, myself, can be a little bit like, “Let’s look on the bright side!” [Laughs] I’m scatterbrained at times, so I love that she’s focused on the prize. I just enjoyed stepping back in those shoes. Plus, she always gets to wear high heels. I don’t get to do that often anymore with three kids, so that was fun.

TVLINE | Since it’s been so long since we’ve seen Ruby, what can you say about what she’s been up to in that time, and how she’s changed or not in that time?
That’s a tough one, because I don’t want to give too much away in terms of when you see her. I think that you’ll definitely see her badass [side], the demon character that she plays and the toughness and stuff. We’ve seen vulnerability in different ways from her, and I think you’ll see a little bit of that as well. So that’ll be an interesting change.

Supernatural Ruby ReturnsTVLINE | We do know that she sort of re-enters the picture through Jo. Do Jo and Ruby have a history as an angel and a demon?
You’ll have to find out! [Laughs] But I think you’ll definitely be able to see how they’re similar and how they’re different, and how they kind of play off of each other, and you can kind of make your own assumptions from there, I guess.

TVLINE | Did you and Danneel campaign to have a storyline together? Or was that pure coincidence?
No, that was actually a coincidence, which was such a great situation for us, because we’re so busy with our kids. Even though we live so close to each other [in Austin, Texas], I feel like getting to spend the episode with her was such a gift. We don’t get to hang out as often as we’d like with our busy schedules, so that was super fun.

TVLINE | We don’t really know what Ruby’s feelings are at this point about God. Is that something that’s explored in the episode?
I think she’ll definitely be part of the storyline, and I know that God’s a big arc. So I think she’ll play to that. I think you can make judgments either way. I don’t know if it’s as black and white.

TVLINE | Ruby was a very clever demon who manipulated Sam for a long time to free Lucifer and was an enemy of the Winchesters. So would she even want to help them out, if she had the resources to?
I feel like everyone’s now doing it. She was the OG, who was like the original “I’ve got a plan, I’m sticking to it, and I’m not going to apologize for it.” Now everyone seems to be following suit. I don’t know. I think if there was an agenda involved, and she can see the goal, especially in dire times, I think she would go for it.

Supernatural Ruby ReturnsTVLINE | The Winchesters and Ruby did not leave things on a nice note, to put it mildly. Last time we saw her, they killed her. Is there anything you can tease about what the reunion looks like between them?
The reunion looks… scary. [Laughs] No, I don’t know. I think she is in dire straits. I don’t want to say too much about any reunions. Just wait and see. [Laughs]

TVLINE | Sam and Ruby, obviously, have a complicated relationship. Do you think that she still has maybe some deeper feelings for him?
I’m sure she’ll always have fond memories of the relationship. I would think that even though he betrayed her, I think she understands that in a way, because she probably would have done the same thing. So I think she’ll probably always have fond memories of him.

TVLINE | One of the fun things that the promo teased was that we’re going to meet a Sam and Dean from another world. Did you get to witness Jared and Jensen [Ackles] playing these other versions of Sam and Dean while you were on set?
I didn’t get to be on set, but I got to FaceTime an awful lot, and my children had a lot of fun seeing their dad dressed up in this alternate universe. They thought it was pretty funny and were asking lots of questions about the set stuff. We’re definitely trying to get our middle son to rock that man bun.

TVLINE | You mentioned that you love acting, and you love being on set. Did this episode spark a desire in you to do more acting in the future?
Yeah, definitely. I’ve been a full-time mom, and I’ve been running a blog, which has been so fun and such an amazing creative outlet. But to get back on set and to actually be working as an actor again definitely ignited a creative spark in me that I absolutely hope to pursue a bit in the future.

NCIS: What Did You Think of Ziva's (Typically Badass) Return? https://briefnews.eu/ncis-what-did-you-think-of-zivas-typically-badass-return/ https://briefnews.eu/ncis-what-did-you-think-of-zivas-typically-badass-return/#respond Wed, 13 Feb 2019 06:41:27 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/ncis-what-did-you-think-of-zivas-typically-badass-return/ Wow, NCIS totally went there.

In a Season 16 episode that seemed like it was simply(/shamelessly) going to reference a cold case that Special Agent Ziva David had chipped away at back in the day, longtime viewers instead got much more.

When a young girl was found on the streets and determined to be the daughter of a Navy recruit who went missing 10 years ago and then was believed to have died in a suicide, Bishop and Torres discovered that someone continued to investigate the case even after it was turned over to the local cops (against Gibbs’ wishes, mind you). That intrepid probie was none other than Ziva David (spied in her own surveillance photo above), who had taken a special interest in the case after getting an earful from Boss for letting it get away.

Bishop at first withheld Ziva’s off-book investigation from Gibbs, only to get her earful of her own when that non-too-small fact came to light, after it was discovered that Ziva kept a small office in the suburbs, situated behind someone’s house. There, Bishop found all kinds of journals, many in Hebrew — and one tied directly to Ziva’s time spent working the kidnapped pregnant recruit’s case. Taking note of Ellie’s investment in “learning” from the esteemed Special Agent whose desk she would occupy, Gibbs reminded her, often, of Rule 10 — to never get personally involved in a case.

Bishop, though, was determined to see this one through and ultimately read to the primary kidnapper a letter that the kidnapping victim’s mother had dictated to Ziva before dying of cancer. But when the perp was caught and afterward admitted to the hospital, and Bishop went to deliver that closure, the man shrugged that “somebody already came here and read it to me.” And that someone promised to “haunt [his] dreams.”

A curious Bishop then raced to Ziva’s secret office, where she saw that a coat that had been on a hook was moved, and a scarf was curled into a ball on the desk. Underneath, Bishop found a note:

Of course, DiNozzo’s very final episode/exit storyline strongly hinted that Ziva had not died but was in hiding (a theory that was all but confirmed by the then-showrunner). But it’s nice to see hard proof, yes?

What did you think of Ziva’s alive-and-well-and-ninja-like return?

Badass Music Books to Take to the Beach https://briefnews.eu/badass-music-books-to-take-to-the-beach/ https://briefnews.eu/badass-music-books-to-take-to-the-beach/#respond Fri, 31 Aug 2018 12:13:28 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/badass-music-books-to-take-to-the-beach/ Everyone loves music. It’s a universal thing that brings people together. And many of us music lovers (my musical tastes run the gamut, from Garbage to Motörhead to the Grateful Dead) also love books about music. But how many David Bowie or Prince or Michael Jackson biographies can you read? Here are four new books, comprising four decades — from the ’60s to the ’90s — about three bands that were trendsetters in their genres and one about an era, the “Summer of Love,” which spawned musical greats like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

This Is the Noise That Keeps Me Awake

Shirley Manson, Garbage’s frontwoman, never really thought of the alternative rock darlings as a big band. It was only when the band started putting together their new autobiography that she realized how big they really were. “In the last year I’ve realized what we’ve managed to carve out for ourselves,” Manson tells OZY. “I’d much rather have a longer, quieter career than a short, loud one.” The book is big, a heavy coffee table–type with exclusive photos, set lists and stories from the band. What began as Butch Vig’s (Nirvana’s producer) side project to a globe-trotting band, Garbage’s story in all its glory — and not so glorious moments — is laid out for all their fans to see.

Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers

Motörhead is known as the bad boys of rock ’n’ roll who went to extremes when it came to drugs and drink, incapable of scheduling a practice but still touring the world and putting out classic albums. Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers: The Rise of Motörhead immortalizes the classic-era Motörhead lineup: Lemmy, Animal and Fast Eddie. “They didn’t change music but created this legend of Motörhead,” author Martin Popoff tells OZY. “This force slashed its way though the new wave of British heavy metal — a notorious band — a fusion of punk and metal.” Covering the band from 1977 to 1982, Popoff’s tale gives fuel to the legend and solidifies Lemmy’s place in the chronicles of heavy metal lore.

I wanted to burn into readers’ brains an understanding of what each song meant to the Grateful Dead as a band.

Peter Conners, author and counterculture expert

Cornell ’77

cornell77 image1

On May 8, 1977, the Grateful Dead played a show at Cornell University in Barton Hall that many deadheads claim was the band’s best show ever. In Cornell ’77: The Music, the Myth, and the Magnificence of the Grateful Dead’s Concert at Barton Hall, counterculture expert Peter Conners explores the concert though numerous interviews, crafting an account of the show that’s lived on through tape recordings that the Library of Congress inducted into the National Recording Registry. “I listened over and over to individual songs, focusing intensely on one song at a time, with the goal of being able to exhale their essence back onto the page.” Conners tells OZY. “I wanted to burn into readers’ brains an understanding of what each song meant to the Grateful Dead as a band, and also what made the Cornell ’77 version unique.”

In Search of the Lost Chord

With interviews from Allen Ginsberg, Timothy Leary and Gil Scott-Heron, music executive Danny Goldberg’s In Search of the Lost Chord: 1967 and the Hippie Idea reveals the origins of the most psychedelic, rock ’n’ roll, spiritual and political period in music to date. From Charles Manson to Martin Luther King Jr., the “Summer of Love” to Black Power, Muhammad Ali to LSD tabs flooding America, Goldberg goes through it all. “It’s a history, and 90 percent is based on research, interviews and what was grand history like Allen Ginsberg, San Francisco rock groups and Ken Kesey introducing psychedelics to the world,” Goldberg tells OZY. Equal parts social and music history, the book delves into anecdotes from Goldberg’s own life to give it a personal, almost memoirlike feel.

The 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS is Stuttgart’s answer to those who find that the $ 300,000-ish GT2 RS is out of reach. To the eye, the track-ready GT3 RS looks much like that one-digit-smaller, megapower Nürburgring blitzer, as the two cars’ wide-bodied exteriors share quite a lot, including carbon-fiber front fenders with heat extractors and a carbon-fiber hood punched through with NACA ducts to cool the standard iron brake rotors or optional carbon-ceramic units. The front fascia carries over from the standard GT3, although a more aggressive splitter is fitted to its lower edge for increased downforce. Intakes are sculpted into the fenders to draw air into the engine coolers, and there is an RS-specific rear bumper with larger side intakes. The manually adjustable carbon-fiber rear wing and rear underbody diffuser create additional downforce to keep the standard Michelin Sport Cup 2 rubber pushed securely into the tarmac at the GT3 RS’s claimed top speed of 193 mph. How To Be A Good And Bad-Ass Boss https://briefnews.eu/how-to-be-a-good-and-bad-ass-boss/ https://briefnews.eu/how-to-be-a-good-and-bad-ass-boss/#respond Sat, 20 Jan 2018 07:22:08 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/how-to-be-a-good-and-bad-ass-boss/

Radical Candor: Be a Kickass Boss without Losing Your Humanity by Kim Malone Scott is an inspirational and effective book to being a boss; enhance productivity and not seem like a total robot to your team. “The fastest path to artificial relationships at work, and to the gravitational pull of organisational mediocrity, is to insist that everyone have the same worldview before building relationships with them.”

The Boss way of doing things

Scott earned her stripes as a quite a success supervisor at Google and then decamped to Apple, where she evolved a category on superior management. She has earned growing reputation in recent years along with her crucial new approach to powerful control, the “radical candor” approach. “When bosses are too invested in everyone getting along they also fail to encourage the people on their team to criticise one another other for fear of sowing discord. They create the kind of work environment where being “nice” is prioritised at the expense of critiquing and therefore improving actual performance.”

An approach to become a well-balanced boss

Radical candor is the sweet spot among managers who are obnoxiously competitive on one facet and ruinously empathetic on the other. It’s about supplying guidance, which involves a mixture of reward as well as complaint—added to supply higher results and help personnel obtain. Excellent bosses have strong relationships with their personnel, and Scott has recognised three simple concepts for constructing higher relationships together with your employees: make it private, get (sh)it done, and understand why it matters.

A manual for controlling your employees naturally

Radical Candor offers a manual to those bewildered or exhausted through control, written for bosses and those who manipulate bosses. Taken from years of the author’s enjoy, and distilled without a doubt giving actionable training to the reader; it indicates managers the way to be successful while maintaining their humanity, finding that means of their process, and creating an environment wherein humans both love their paintings and their colleagues. “That’s why it’s crucial to remind people that an important part of Radically Candid relationships is opening yourself to the possibility of connecting with people who have different world views or whose lives involve behaviour that you don’t understand or that may even conflict with a core belief of yours. It’s possible to care personally about a person who disagrees with your views on abortion or guns or God.”

The 22-year-old from Stillwater, Minnesota, won two prizes at the 2017 Miss Minnesota USA pageant: the Spirit of Miss USA Award and the Director’s Award.

“I was super shocked, I was in tears,” she told BuzzFeed News at the time. “I went from a special needs pageant to the biggest pageant in the world. It’s kind of crazy.”

Holmgren was inspired to enter the pageant after winning the Minnesota Miss Amazing, a pageant for women with disabilities, in 2015. She is currently a student at Bethel University’s Inclusive Learning and Development program, and plans to graduate next year.

Holmgren, who is also a dancer, said she hopes to prove to the world that women with Down Syndrome can participate in the arts and “blaze a trail.”

“I want to do some modeling and more dancing,” she said. “I have a big future.”

Rudy Stanko, a man of many court battles, has had only one that matters to driving enthusiasts. And his win is our loss. Stanko is the man who challenged Montana’s “reasonable and prudent” speed law, which stood between 1955 and 1974 and again between 1995 and 1999. It was Stanko’s case that gave the Montana legislature reason to impose a highway speed limit. READ MORE ››

One motorist definitely being added to the naughty list this Christmas was caught by a motorcyclist dressed as Santa, after the festive-clad biker witnessed a driver engage in a hit-and-run incident in the center of Paris.

Filmed by Youtuber and motorbike enthusiast Chris RS, the incident saw a female driver knock down a pedestrian on Rue de Rivoli before fleeing the scene.

Fortunately, Chris RS caught the moment of the collision on his motorcycle helmet cam. He just happened to be riding around the city dressed as Father Christmas at the time of the incident.

Footage of the intense aftermath of the collision shows the white-bearded biker chasing down the offending motorist as she tries to escape in a black Renault vehicle.

Following futile attempts to pull the offending motorist over, the biker Santa eventually grabbed the attention of nearby police.

“It was a good day, I put on my Santa costume for a new video. People were happy to see me dressed like that and say hello,” the Youtube vlogger said online. “It is Place Vendome that this dramatic scene arrives… I had to try stop this person.”

The biker has since posted an update to say the pedestrian victim of the collision is recovering well. Chris RS previously helped stop another hit-and-run driver in October.
