Cincinnati Reds all-star Joey Votto has penned an apology after saying in a podcast on Tuesday that he doesn't care about Canada, Canadian baseball or his hometown of Toronto. Votto, who played for Canada at the 2009 and 2013 World Baseball Classics and won the Lou Marsh Award as Canada's athlete of the year in 2010 and 2017, distanced himself from his home country in an interview with Yahoo Sports' Major League Baseball podcast. "I don't care almost at all about Canadian baseball," said Votto, who was also the National League MVP in 2010. "I wasn't raised inside of Canadian baseball really. I'm coming up on half of my life being in the United States working and being supported by American baseball." But in an email posted on the Canadian Baseball Network website after the Reds lost 5-3 to the San Francisco Giants Tuesday night, Votto said he is "terribly ashamed" of his comments and called them "ridiculously selfish and short-sighted." Votto added: "I am saddened that I was so flagrant with my remarks and more importantly that I offended so many people that mean so much to me." Votto's initial comments came after he was asked about James Paxton of Ladner, B.C., throwing his recent no-hitter for the Seattle Mariners against the Blue Jays in Toronto, becoming the first Canadian in MLB history to do so on home soil. "As far as Toronto, and Canadian baseball, and the country of Canada, and [James Paxton] being Canadian, I don't care at all," said Votto. "[Paxton], or the Jays, or Canada, in general, may disagree with that, but I really couldn't give a rat's ass about that." Votto did clarify in the podcast that he was happy for Paxton as a baseball player, but not as a fellow Canadian. In his apology, Votto said being asked about baseball in Canada, the Blue Jays and the Paxton no-hitter recalled his resentment for not making Team Canada or being drafted by the Blue Jays out of high school, and not being picked for the Olympic team while in the minors. "Clearly my reply came out of a side of jealousy for a Canadian baseball athlete being celebrated in the city of Toronto. It was an odd reply and one I am terribly ashamed of," he wrote. "I go back to Toronto each off-season and feel renewed every time I cross the border to my home and native land. I would not be where I am now without the efforts of so many Canadian baseball people and the fans of Canadian baseball. "To James Paxton, the Blue Jays, the Toronto fans, the women and men all across Canada that work so hard to promote and support Canadian baseball, I am sorry for my selfish comments and I humbly ask for your forgiveness." Microsoft may not have as many top exclusives releasing in 2018, but they have one standout performer. PUBG on Xbox One is a big game and has been doing well to provide some much needed choice away from the PS4. Numbers of players are healthy, with new updates being released to help boost performance and stability. However, while things are improving, the game still needs plenty of work. And one of the next big updates will be to release the PUBG Miramar map in April. Battlegrounds developer Bluehole recently gave Xbox One users the news they’ve been waiting for, confirming that Miramar will hit the test servers before the end of this month. This will be followed by a full Miramar release date in May. “After extensive efforts, we’ve been able to get Miramar ready for Xbox,” reads a new Bluehole post. “Miramar will be coming to test servers before the end of April, and we expect it’ll hit live servers sometime in May. “The Miramar test server update will also include new vehicles and weapons, alongside several crucial gameplay optimisations.” Unlike the PC, the PUBG Xbox One test servers will be available as a separate download. This will give players the option to jump on and test updates before they hit Xbox One. “In advance of major upcoming patch releases, we will be making available to players a separate PUBG Xbox Download client,” reads a test server post. “There, players can participate in our latest content updates before they are moved to ‘Live’.” This week also saw a new Xbox One games release being planned by SEGA. It has now been confirmed that Shenmue 1 & 2 will be released on Xbox One, as well as PS4 and PC. This was announced during the Sega Fes event in Japan, although the new ports will not be official remakes. They will be packaged together and will also come with some improvements, although this won’t mean a full-on remaster. This will include “fully scalable screen resolution, choice of modern or classic control schemes, PC graphics options, an updated user interface, and the option to enjoy either the original Japanese or English voiceovers.” No release date has been announced for Shenmue 1 & 2, although both will be available as digital purchases on the PlayStation and Xbox game stores. Shenmue 3 is also in the works, although this will be a modern release, being published by Deep Silver for PS4 and PC. Microsoft have announced that a total of 19 games are being released on the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility program. All are coming from the original Xbox lineup, including a lot of Star Wars games. Microsoft seem to be enjoying having PUBG as an Xbox One console exclusive.
They recently announced that the game had reached over 5 million players, although they didn’t stipulate if this included people who shared their games library.
And as with the PC version when it launched, PUBG on Xbox One is still very much a game in early access.
That means a lot of PUBG updates and patches are needed to upgrade the game to provide better performance and more content.
Microsoft and Bluehole Inc. have already confirmed that the Xbox Battlegrounds will be getting exciting new maps and features in the months to come.
And one of the next big additions to the game will be the Miramar map, which has a launch window of early spring.
Bluehole Inc. have confirmed that their current release schedule for new update will run every few weeks.
So that means players could see something drop later this week, or if it’s something really big, later in April.
It’s unclear if the new map will be included in the next big update for PUBG on Xbox One, or whether fans will have to wait until May or even June for the new content to drop.
We do know that this list of current bugfixes will be included in the next Xbox patch:
When the stack split UI is on in a vehicle, other actions are still available
Sea of Thieves developer Rare has outlined its plans for the next major Xbox One update.
After posting the patch notes for update 1.0.1, Rare published a list of known issues and future plans.
As confirmed earlier this week, the big news is that Rare is no longer planning on implementing the Death Cost.
The Death Cost would have seen players pay a small fee after being killed within the game.
But after receiving negative feedback from fans, Rare has now decided to scrap the idea.
“Thank you all for your feedback on our previously discussed Coming Update, Death Cost,” Rare said. “Due to your passionate comments, we have decided not to move forward with this feature. Thanks for the honest feedback and discussion on this.”
The developer also published a list of known issues that will be fixed in the next patch.
Some players haven’t been receiving gold, reputation and Achievements, while certain commendations aren’t always updating.
There’s even a bug in which players appear “comically smaller” after fighting the Kraken.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has finally joined the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility games list
One of the most sought after Xbox 360 games for Xbox One, the original Modern Warfare received more than 126k votes to make it backwards compatible.
Anybody who downloaded the game in the Xbox 360 era will find it in the ‘My Games and Apps’ section of the Xbox One dashboard.
If you’ve got a boxed copy of the game, you can install and play by inserting the disc.
You can even purchase the game from the Xbox Store – and there’s good news if you do.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is currently available at a discounted price as part of the Xbox Easter sale.
The news was announced by Xbox executive Larry ‘Major Nelson’ Hryb on Twitter.
“Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is coming to Xbox One Backward Compatibility today (it is also on sale as part of the Xbox Spring Sale).”
As part of the Easter Sale, Xbox One users can pick up Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for £16.99.
Xbox Live Gold subscribers can purchase the game for the reduced price of £14.99.
The clocks have gone forward as of today (March 25), marking the end of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and the start of British Summer Time (BST).
Britons may be feeling tired as it has meant an hour of lost sleep when the time changed from 1am to 2am this morning.
But it is good news for people who are needing some Vitamin D as it means that the evenings will be much lighter until June 21, Midsummer’s Day.
Why do we change the clocks in the UK?
It first started in 1916 during World War One in a bid to save money and resources such as coal to light the country.
However it was first suggested by Benjamin Franklin in 1784 who believed getting up earlier when it was lighter would mean saving on candle usage.
This was followed by builder William Willett who tried to convince the country that it would be a good idea in 1907, publishing a leaflet titled The Waste of Daylight.
He died in 1915, a year before it came into place. It is also followed by most of the European Union since 1995.
Many are conflicted over the idea and whether we should still partake in it, as it can have a number of health problems.
The days after the clocks go forward, the risk of stroke and heart attack have found to increase due to the stress it puts on the body when it is sleep deprived.
Others believe it is a good idea as it can help to use the daylight instead of artificial light, and even reduces road accidents.
This is due to the evenings being lighter which is when traffic collisions are higher.
The clocks are due to go back this year on October 28, marking the beginning of Greenwich Mean Time again.
It also marks the end of British Summer Time and the start of Autumn, as the evenings have already begun to get shorter.
Whilst it means darker evenings it also means people get an extra hours sleep.
This can help reduce the risks of strokes and heart attacks, the opposite of the clocks going forward.
Top South Korean phone company Korea Telecom (KT) announced today that it will offer 5G cellular service in March 2019, Yonhap reports, while downplaying U.S. carrier Verizon’s plan to launch 5G in 2018 as “a step backward.” KT’s prickly comments come after it collaborated with Verizon on 5G video calling tests during last m…Read More

Three new games are now available to play as part of Microsoft’s Backwards Compatibility program.
The new titles were announced earlier this week and should be available to download right now.
The Xbox One games in question include VANQUISH, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, and Brave: The Video Game.
February hasn’t been the busiest week for new BC launches, with only around six confirmed so far.
There’s room for a few more to be launched before the end of the month, Microsoft usually make announcements on Tuesdays.
It should be noted that Brave: The Video Game is actually one of the new Games with Gold titles being released in March, and will therefore be available to download by everyone with a Gold subscription.
The digital titles that you own and are part of the Back Compat game catalog will automatically show up in the “Ready to Install” section on your Xbox One.
For disc-based games that are a part of the Back Compat game catalog, insert the disc and the console will begin downloading the game to your hard drive.
And new Backwards Compatible games being made part of the big existing library weren’t the only big news confirmed by Microsoft this week.
The Xbox One X enhanced games list currently includes a host of titles and a few picks from the Xbox 360.
The Xbox One Backwards Compatibility games list includes several titles that run better on the Xbox One X, such as Fallout 3.
And now Microsoft have revealed that they have more plans to bring new Xbox 360 games to the Xbox One X enhanced list.
In a short announcement posted on Twitter, Microsoft’s Albert Penello confirmed more games were in the works. “
Yes. More coming soon,” he replied to a fan query on the subject.
As you can see with the short comment, no exact information has been shared on what new games will be included.
Fans so far have 7 backwards compatible Xbox 360 games that have been enhanced on the Xbox One X, including Halo 3, Fallout 3, Assassin’s Creed, Gears of War 3, Skate 3.
It’s hard to tell what other games could be added next, what with their being a good mix of first-party and third-party titles currently included.
“When the world’s most powerful console launches on Nov. 7, you will be able to run select Xbox 360 games at higher resolution, 9X the original pixel count, and expanded color details”, Microsoft revealed last year.
“The team developed the Heutchy Method (after the engineer who created it) which leverages the power of Xbox One X to let the Xbox 360 emulator present the very best version of the game possible with the existing assets—all without touching the game code.
“The same method improves the graphics for Original Xbox games on Xbox One and Xbox One S.”
It might be worth checking your Xbox Games Library today, following the news that Microsoft have been doing more updating.
It was announced today by Xbox’s Larry Hryb that the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility games list has seen three new launches.
VANQUISH, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Brave: The Video Game are now all available to play on the Xbox One.
Brave: The Video Game is actually one of the new Games with Gold titles being released in March, and will therefore be available to download by everyone with a Gold subscription.
The digital titles that you own and are part of the Back Compat game catalog will automatically show up in the “Ready to Install” section on your Xbox One.
For disc-based games that are a part of the Back Compat game catalog, insert the disc and the console will begin downloading the game to your hard drive.
After the game has downloaded to your hard drive, users will still need to keep the game disc in the drive to play.
The most popular of the three new games is Vanquish, which currently has over 9,000 votes backing its inclusion.
For those that don’t remember, Vanquish is a third-person shooter was directed by Shinji Mikami, the creator of the Resident Evil series.
“The story of Vanquish takes place on a vast space station in a near future world where nations war over the planet’s remaining energy resources. Against this backdrop, players take the role of Sam Gideon, a government agent kitted out with a futuristic battle suit.
“A versatile fighter with a huge arsenal of weaponry at his disposal, Sam also has an array of martial arts skills that he can use to take down his robot enemies.”
Fans are hopeful that Microsoft will now turn its attention to the original Xbox Backwards Compatibility list.
While Microsoft is keen to assure fans that more games will be added over time, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said that there are complications with licenses.
“There are a number of OG games in BC pipeline, they won’t drop as often as the 360 games but team is working to validate and get permissions,” Spencer tweeted.
“More complicated with some just due to the age of the rights etc.”
Original Xbox releases joined the backwards compatibility lineup last year. Compatible games include Ninja Gaiden Black, Bloodrayne 2, Crimson Skies, Dead to Rights and Grabbed by the Ghoulies.
