Now that DJI has made its semi-pro drone technology more accessible through the Mavic Air, what’s it going to do for operators who prefer the Mavic Pro line? Check off a few of their bigger wish list items, apparently. DroneDJ has obtained a photo of what looks like a sequel to the Mavic Pro, reportedly just called the Mavic 2. It would still have the signature folding propeller arms, but would include at least side obstacle avoidance cameras, if not rear as well — this could provide 360-degree obstacle avoidance. If you’ve ever crashed your drone into a tree while trying to record a dramatic panning shot, you know how important this could be.

The Mavic 2 might also be helpful for budding aerial cinematographers. The photo appears to show a GoPro Karma-style removable gimbal that would let you swap cameras, with at least two options (notice the smaller black gimbal hiding on the side?) that may include a larger-than-normal sensor. The addition wouldn’t make DJI Inspire buyers sweat, but it could be helpful for drone buyers who’d rather not give up portability for the sake of their shots.

Other possible revelations include

So long as the leak is accurate to begin with, the remaining questions mainly revolve around the launch date and price. DJI was supposed to have a “See the Bigger Picture” event on July 18th, but it postponed that to a later date. You might see the Mavic 2 soon, but not that soon. And whether or not the Mavic 2 would represent a good deal would depend on whether or not the price is comparable to the $ 999 you pay for a Mavic Pro. If there’s a significant price hike, it may be a tougher sell to people who aren’t quite convinced they should pay a premium over the Air.

A US-based activist’s post, ostensibly meant to “raise awareness” about Syrian civilians, turned out to be a complete fabrication. Twitterati found the photos he used were actually from Gaza and Mosul.

A Cleveland-based user who goes by the name of Sami Sharbek has posted two photos on his Twitter account – one showing Middle Eastern-looking residential blocks being bombed from the air; the other depicting a man carrying a crying child. “This is not a movie. This is Syria,” he wrote in the caption.

The post was widely retweeted and liked. As of Wednesday morning, it had racked up over 125,000 shares and 154,000 likes. However, what many people failed to notice is that the photos portraying the perils of war were shot outside Syria.

Some users have shared the links to news stories featuring the original photos. “Wrong,” John Mangun, BusinessMirror Columnist, tweeted, sharing a link to a 2014 Independent story covering Israeli air raids on Palestine.

This photo shows the same airstrike featured in the photo tweeted by Sharbek. It comes from Reuters’ coverage of an Israeli strike on eastern Gaza city.

In a subsequent post, he continued jabbing Sharbek with photo proofs, posting a Reuters image of the US-backed Mosul siege; an event which became notorious for its high civilian death toll and the all-round destruction of Iraq’s second-largest city.

Shortly after, Sharbek acknowledged the post was a fake and apologized for the error. “I wasn’t aware that the images came from Gaza and Mosul,” he wrote. “My only intention was to show awareness for my country.”

Regardless, he still asked users to make donations, sharing a link to a non-profit organization called the Syrian American Medical Society. What’s more, he again posted a series of photos whose credibility is doubtful – at least in the case of the infamous image of a little boy allegedly pulled from the rubble after an air strike on Aleppo.

Jordan Mapp and Billy Webb revealed plans to start ‘Matt’s Meet Up’ earlier this month.

The Leicester-based group will give men a chance to talk about what’s on their minds, in a non-judgmental environment.

They don’t have any medical experience or training – they’re “just relatively normal people” – but they wanted to create a space for men to open up about life’s challenges.

Mapp and Webb decided to start the group after their friend, Matt Western-Smith, tragically and suddenly took his own life last year.

“Matt was a funny, caring person,” Mapp told Express.co.uk. “He really had nothing bad to say about anyone.

“He passed away last year, and at the time we didn’t know what was happening with him,” added Webb.

“It just goes to show that sometimes you don’t know about it until it’s too late.”

Maybe if he could tell someone how he was feeling, Western-Smith would still be with them today, the friends said.

Creating an environment for men to talk about what’s on their mind may prevent something similar happening to other people, said Mapp and Webb.

After finding inspiration from another community group for men – Andys Man Club – they decided to begin Matt’s Meet Up.

“I found that speaking to a doctor about mental health was difficult – maybe it was a pride thing,” said Mapp. “But, I found it much easier to talk to friends about it afterwards.

“That’s how we came up with the idea.”

The community group has been backed by the University of Leicester, and local colleges, they said.

Their Facebook post about the group has also been shared more than 1,200 times, and they’ve received “really supportive messages”, they added.

The first meeting is due to begin on January 16, at 7.30pm.

“Mental health is something we should be talking about, and we believe doing just that will make a big difference.”

As a consumer, it’s easy to fall prey to confident and pretty marketing claims, and this is no less true than during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

When you see a splash of pink or a pink ribbon, you might assume you’ll be helping breast cancer prevention efforts in some way by buying the product, so you throw it in your cart and move on. But if you really do care about the most common cancer affecting women worldwide, you should reconsider this behavior.

Breast Cancer Action, a watchdog activist organization whose mission is to achieve health justice for all women at risk of and living with breast cancer, came up with four questions you should ask yourself before you buy pink:

  1. Does any money from this purchase go to support breast cancer programs? How much?
  2. What organization will get the money and what will they do with the funds?
  3. Is there a “cap” on the amount the company will donate? Has this maximum donation already been met and how can you tell if it has?
  4. Does this purchase put you or someone you love at risk for exposure to toxins linked to breast cancer? What is the company doing to ensure that its products are not contributing to the breast cancer epidemic? 

If the company is not being specific in where the money is going and how it’s helping breast cancer prevention efforts, beware. It could just be fluffy marketing that only has sales dollars in mind.

The memo, sent to the league in August, includes signatures from Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins, Eagles wide receiver Torrey Smith, Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett, and retired wide receiver Anquan Boldin, four of the NFL’s most outspoken players on issues of racial inequality.

The memo begins with a rundown of activities undertaken by their “Players Coalition,” such as visits to poverty-stricken neighborhoods and meetings with law enforcement officials. Later, the players make specific requests of league commissioner Roger Goodell, including the idea to dedicate one month of the season to highlighting player activism and community engagement, something akin to the recent “Breast Cancer Awareness” initiative implemented by the NFL.

Here’s the paragraph in its entirety:

“To counter the vast amount of press attention being referred to as the ‘national anthem protests’ versus the large amount of grass roots work that many players around the league have invested their time and resources, we would like to request a league wide initiative that would include a month dedicated to a campaign initiative and related events. Similarly to what the league already implements for breast cancer awareness, honoring military, etc, we would like November to serve as a month of Unity for individual teams to engage and impact the community in their market.”

The NFL’s pushes for breast cancer awareness and military support have caused controversy in recent years. While some applaud the league for supporting worthwhile causes, others have criticized it for being proactive on some issues while ignoring others.

Either way, it seems that this request was made with the aim of shedding a positive light on the wave of activism that has spread across the league. Currently, many fans are boycotting the league’s broadcasts due to the increasingly common national anthem protests, but an entire month dedicated to exploring how these same players are affecting their communities could change some minds.

The memo also includes a timeline for announcing the initiative prior to the 2017 season, though it seems those suggestions were ignored. It concludes with an outline of the players’ vision for criminal justice reform, including bail reform, the elimination of mandatory minimum sentences, and ending the war on drugs.

All four players who signed the memo have called for racial equality in the past. Jenkins and Bennett have engaged in national anthem protests, while Smith frequently speaks his mind in interviews and on social media. Boldin has spoken on Capitol Hill in support of criminal justice reform.
