Good Morning Britain’s Piers Morgan has been a vehement supporter of Sir Captain Tom Moore ever since he came into the public eye for his heroic efforts at raising an eye-watering amount of money for the NHS. On Sunday, the veteran’s family confirmed Captain Tom was in hospital after contracting Covid-19 and the news led to online trolls abusing the fundraiser and his family blaming his recent Barbados trip for the diagnosis. 

Piers began: “There are these disgusting vermin, to be abusing him and his family, to be mocking them on Twitter, at such a moment where there are serious concerns about his life, I find utterly contemptible.

“There is one common thread and that is a number of somewhat upper-crust, very posh, quite self-important and entitled people who felt that the natural order of things was that they should not just have their say but also have their way.

“They didn’t like it when I dared to say no it may have been done that way before but we are going to do it differently now.

EastEnders has seen all sorts of drama since Ben Mitchell (played by Max Bowden) came back on the scene.

Ben has been plotting and scheming against his father, Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), however, it looks like he’ll set his sights on Rainie Branning (Tanya Franks) in upcoming scenes.

This will happen after Ben overhears a conversation between Rainie and Stuart Highway (Ricky Champ), and he spots an opportunity.

Ben will sabotage a sale at the car lot where Rainie works, and he’ll then tell her that he can help fix the car.

However, Rainie will realise what Ben’s really up to, and she’ll end up confronting him.

She’ll accuse him of damaging the car on purpose and Ben will then storm off, which will put Rainie into a worried frame of mind.

Eventually, Rainie will find out about all the cars he has stolen.

Rainie will confront Ben yet again, and she’ll end up being brutally attacked by the man.

New spoiler pictures from the upcoming scenes show Rainie being pulled by the hair.

After the incident, Ben will discover that Jay actually owns the property, not Max (Jake Wood).

Spotting a business opportunity, Ben will then offer Jay a gap to getting his property back.

Jay won’t be entirely convinced to begin with, yet Ben will use his daughter, Lex, as a means to get Jay to agree to his plan.

However, Ben will be worried when he overhears that Jay is seeking legal advice, so he ends up doing everything he can to convince Jay.

They’ll then decide to visit Max and Rainie, and they’ll bring up the fact that the documents aren’t legal.

The question remains: will Ben and Jay end up getting the land back?

Meanwhile, Louise Mitchell (Tilly Keeper) has found herself embroiled in her father’s dodgy dealings of late, only for Walford heartthrob Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) to whisk her off her feet.

However, she will soon learn she is carrying his child.

The pair slept together after Louise revealed she had been given the implant to safeguard her from getting pregnant, but next week, the youngster will realise the contraceptive method has failed when she discovers she’s going to be a mother.

With the pair spending more time together, much to Sharon Mitchell’s (Letitia Dean) disdain, Louise will make the life-changing discovery when she confides in best friend Bex Fowler (Jasmine Armfield) about her relationship with Keanu.

Police in Denmark say a man has been shot and critically injured after he attempted to attack patrolling officers with a knife in a suburb of Aarhus.

The incident unfolded around 1pm local time as a knife-wielding man lunged at officers on Karen Blixens Boulevard in Brabrand.

Police opened fire on the assailant and the man is now in a “critical condition,” according to local law enforcement.

A large police presence remains in the area as a technical examination is carried out.

  • A Utah man was pepper-sprayed and arrested at Orlando International Airport on Sunday before boarding a JetBlue Airways flight.
  • According to multiple reports, 45 year-old Brandon Strong of Layton, Utah allegedly confronted both an airline employee and an airport police officer.

A Utah man was pepper-sprayed and arrested at Orlando International Airport before boarding a JetBlue Airways flight after allegedly having confronted both an airline employee and an airport police officer, according to multiple reports. 

WFTV 9 ABC reports that on Sunday evening, 45-year-old Brandon Strong of Layton, Utah was waiting to board JetBlue Flight 801 flying from Orlando to Salt Lake City. Data from Flight Aware shows Flight 801 was delayed 2 hours and six minutes.

A man accused of attacking his wife with a chainsaw has been deported from the US 11 times since 2005, officials from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have said.

Alejandro Alvarez Villegas allegedly attacked his wife at their home in Whittier, southern California, with a mechanical saw while their three children were present, according to police. The 32-year-old is then said to have fled the scene in a stolen car. He was later picked up by police after detectives developed information about his whereabouts.

Police said that when officers arrived at the home they found the woman suffering from traumatic physical injuries believed to have been inflicted by a chainsaw. The victim was transported to a local hospital and her current condition is unknown.

In a statement to RT, ICE officials said that police have been requested to notify ICE prior to the release of Alvarez Villegas to enable customs officials to take him into custody. “Department of Homeland Security databases indicate Mr. Alvarez Villegas is a serial immigration violator who has been removed from the United States 11 times since 2005,” the statement read.

Depending on their criminal history, any person who illegally reenters the United States, after having been previously removed, could be charged with a felony offence that carries a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison.

Alvarez will be transported back to the Whittier City Jail where he will be booked on charges of attempted murder, child endangerment, hit and run and grand theft auto.

The Three Lions got their World Cup preparations off to a strong start with a relatively comfortable victory in front of home fans.

Gary Cahill headed England ahead in the early stages, before Harry Kane netted later in the first period.

Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi scored straight after the restart to give the 10,000 Nigeria fans inside the national stadium something to shout about.

But England held on easily, in what was a relatively quiet second half.

And speaking after the clash, Southgate admitted he was pleased with his side’s improvement from recent outings.

“I think we played really well, with the ball especially. Far more good situations than in recent games,” he said.

“We were deservedly two goals up in the first half.

“The period leading up to their goal, they changed their system and we took some time to adjust. But after that we dealt with it well. It was a decent exercise for us to adjust to that.”

Southgate has been hailed for his experimental style since taking over from Roy Hodgson last year.

And critics have been raving over the play of England’s youngsters in recent months.

And the manager believes his quartet of attacking stars showed their class again today.

“The front four, some of the movement and interplay, we looked a threat with plenty of pace,” he continued.

“Dele [Alli] and Jesse [Lingard] made unselfish runs.

“Some slightly better decision making or quality and we would have scored more.”

Kane continued his fine goalscoring form in an England shirt, taking his tally to six goals in five games when he has worn the captain’s armband.

And the Tottenham hitman admits he is raring to go ahead of the opening game less than two weeks away.

“It was a good win against a tough side. We were excellent in the first half and created a lot of chances,” he said.

“Second half they scored and it puts the pressure on but we got back into it an kept the ball and came back well.

“l feel at my best. It was great to score – it’s always nice for a striker and now I’m looking forward to the game on Thursday.”

The England camp may be in high spirits after their narrow victory.

But former midfielder Chris Waddle believes the Three Lions’ performance shouldn’t excite fans ahead of this month’s tournament.

“I thought England played very well in the first-half against a poor Nigeria side,” he told the BBC.

“But the visitors made their changes in the second-half and made a game of it.

“I don’t think we got a lot of answers today though because Nigeria just lied down in the first period and let England do what they want.”

England have one more warm-up game against Costa Rica next Thursday.

Their first World Cup group game is against Tunisia in Volgograd.

“Any interested party in Syria should understand that attacking US forces or our coalition partners will be a bad policy,” Director of Joint Staff Lieutenant General Kenneth McKenzie said at the Pentagon press briefing on Thursday.

Over 2,000 US troops in Syria are embedded with the SDF in the northeast as well as in the enclave of At-Tanf in the south, along the Jordanian border. McKenzie said the US troops and their local militia allies were staying in Tanf, quashing rumors of their impending withdrawal.

“We are there. Nothing has changed,” he said. “The maintenance of that deconfliction zone is important and we would view very gravely any actions that tended to change that.”

Unlike the Russian military mission, which was invited by the Syrian government in 2015, the US presence in Syria is not sanctioned under international law. Both the Obama and the Trump administrations have argued that the US-led coalition against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) in Iraq and Syria is legal under the congressional authorizations to use military force against Al-Qaeda dating back to 2001.

However, the US at one point ended up effectively allied with Al-Qaeda’s affiliate in Syria, Jabhat al-Nusra (Al-Nusra Front), President Assad told RT. After it became clear that Nusra was an Al-Qaeda offshoot rather than “moderate rebels,” the US established the SDF, Assad said.

After each Syrian military victory or successful reconciliation effort, the US and its partners attempted to counteract these gains by “supporting more terrorism, bringing more terrorists to Syria, or by hindering the political process,” Assad said, blaming the US for prolonging the seven-year war.

Damascus is willing to negotiate with the SDF, as it regards the Kurdish-led militias as fellow Syrians who love their country. “We all don’t trust the Americans, [so] the one option is to live with each other as Syrians,” Assad said.

Every attempt would be made to negotiate with the SDF, he told RT, but if negotiations fail, “the Syrian army will be forced to liberate areas occupied by the SDF, with the Americans or without the Americans.”

While US President Donald Trump has floated the idea of withdrawing American troops from Syria, multiple officials from the Pentagon and the State Department have said the US troops are going nowhere, and that territories liberated from IS by SDF will not be returned to the Syrian government unless Assad leaves power.

The Syrian president, however, believes he will outlast the Americans.

“This is our land, it’s our right, it’s our duty to liberate [these areas], and the Americans should leave,” Assad told RT. “Somehow, they’re going to leave. They came to Iraq with no legal basis. And look what happened to them. They have to learn their lesson.”

If true, it would be a surprising change of pace, considering that in the run-up to the massive coordinated strike on Syria’s military and civilian facilities on Saturday, the West accused Russia of being complicit in an alleged chemical attack in Douma on April, 7. Just several days ago, US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley showed no hint of compromise, as she branded the Russian government a “regime” whose “hands are covered in the blood of Syrian children.”

On Friday, she further fueled the fire by saying it was “Russia alone that has stopped at nothing to defend the Syrian regime’s multiple uses of chemical weapons.”

Several consecutive resolutions on investigating the Douma incident, drafted by Russia on the one side and the US on the other, have failed in the United Security Council. While Russia vetoed the American proposals, its own drafts failed to garner enough votes to require a veto, outweighed by those of America’s allies on the Council.

On Tuesday, the Western permanent members of the Council even rejected what Russian envoy to the UN Vassily Nebenzia called an “innocuous” resolution welcoming the fact-finding mission of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to Syria. That draft “almost completely copied” an earlier proposal by Sweden.

The reported new draft, sponsored by Washington, Paris and London appears to be no different from the earlier proposals advocated by the West. According to AFP, it seeks to establish an investigation into the allegations that Damascus used chlorine-filled munitions on civilians in Douma. While the OPCW fact-finding mission is not in a position to apportion blame, the newly-created mechanism would be tasked with determining the culprit. In line with the Western claims that Syria has not destroyed all its chemical stockpiles, the draft gives the OPCW 30 days to report back to the UNSC whether this is the case. The draft also calls for facilitating humanitarian aid deliveries to Syria and a renewal of the 30-day humanitarian ceasefire outlined in the resolution unanimously adopted by the UN Security Council on February 24.

As far as the Syrian peace settlement is concerned, the draft reportedly includes a veiled threat levelled at Syrian President Bashar Assad, as it “demands” him to participate in peace negotiations “constructively and without preconditions.”

The US, the UK and France unleashed over 100 missiles on Syria on Saturday, targeting facilities they claim are at the “heart” of the Syrian chemical program. Hailing the attack, which was denounced by Russian President Vladimir Putin as “an aggression against a sovereign state,” Haley said that US guns are “locked and loaded,” and that it will not hesitate to strike again in case of a new chemical attack in Syria.

World-renowned performance coach Tony Robbins has apologized for remarks he made in March, about how women use the #MeToo movement to “get significance.”

Robbins posted the apology on Facebook and linked to the statement on Twitter. It read, in part: “I apologize for suggesting anything other than my profound admiration for the #MeToo movement. Let me clearly say, I agree with the goals of the #MeToo movement and its founding message of  ’empowerment through empathy,’  which makes it a beautiful force for good.”
