A former FBI official said former President Donald Trump is likely feeling cornered and embracing the QAnon movement out of desperation.

Frank Figliuzzi, a former FBI assistant director, was weighing in on Trump's links to the QAnon movement during a Monday appearance on MSNBC's "Deadline: White House." Host Nicolle Wallace asked Figliuzzi if he thinks Trump knows just how dangerous the movement is to the US.

"Oh, not only do I think he knows it, but I think that's what attracts him to this. It's like a moth to the flame," Figliuzzi said.

"And the thing is, he knows that he's increasingly cornered," Figliuzzi added. "He's in trouble on so many legal fronts, even criminal fronts now, that this is, kind of, the almost last act of a desperate man."

Figliuzzi referenced Trump's rally in Youngstown, Ohio, where a QAnon song played during Trump's speech. During the rally, Trump's supporters were seen pointing their fingers to the sky in a strange, one-finger salute, which experts say might have been a nod to the movement's slogan, "where we go one we go all."

While the stadium in Ohio was not fully filled, and thus a sign that Trump may be losing support from his base, Figliuzzi said there's still a significant threat from Trump and the QAnon movement.

"What is extremely dangerous based on past histories of cults, is that as they come near the end, as the leader is threatened, they get more and more dangerous," Figliuzzi said. "And they do something cult experts call 'forcing the end.'"

This could happen if the movement's leader "calls for the violence" or is "taken out," Figliuzzi said.

"The members take a step up and force the ending — whatever that could be," Figliuzzi said. "That's what concerns me and we've learned from January 6, it only takes a small number of people to do that."

The Trump rally in Ohio is just one of many recent instances in which the former president appeared to embrace QAnon — a movement that claims without basis that Trump is fighting a deep-state cabal of pedophiles. In a stream of messages after the FBI's raid of Mar-a-Lago, Trump shared over a dozen posts on his Truth Social account, some of which referenced QAnon and contained baseless conspiracy theories about the FBI. Other posts by the former president on the Truth Social platform in September included a reposted image of himself sporting a "Q" lapel pin, along with the movement's "where we go one we go all" slogan.

Figliuzzi and a representative at Trump's post-presidential press office did not immediately respond to Insider's requests for comment.

Google Assistant buttons won’t just be limited to a handful of LG phones this year. The internet giant has widened its partnerships to add dedicated buttons to a whole range of handsets in 2019, including returning partner LG (on phones like the G8 ThinQ, V50 ThinQ and K40) and Nokia (3.2 and 4.2). Phones from Xiaomi (Mi Mix 3 5G and Mi 9), Vivo (V15 Pro) and TCL are also in line for Assistant buttons later on. Google expects over 100 million phones to ship with a hardware shortcut to its AI helper, and that’s not including Samsung phone owners who remap their Bixby buttons.

On all of these new additions, the button works the same. A single press launches the assistant, while double-tapping it gives you a visual snapshot of your day. A press-and-hold will turn it into a sort of walkie talkie that will keep listening for commands until you let go.

There’s no hiding why Google is pushing for this button: it’s all about winning the AI assistant wars. The easier the access to Google Assistant, the more likely you might be to use it over Amazon’s Alexa and other rivals. That, in turn, might convince you to buy Assistant-equipped smart devices and keep you glued to Google’s ecosystem.

The furious outburst took place at a GameStop in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and it began with the woman demanding a refund because the shop assistant called her “sir”.

Footage of the incident that was uploaded to Facebook shows the employee repeatedly apologizing as the woman continues to rage.

The video begins with the woman, shouting: “I don’t want credit, you’re going to give me my f***ing money back.”

As the exchange boils over a female customer tries to defuse the situation by offering to call the police. However she also called the woman ‘sir’, adding further fuel to the fire.

“Excuse me sir there is a young man in here you need to watch your mouth,” the anonymous woman says in a soft voice. “I can call the police if you would like me to, you need to settle down.”

The offended and enraged shopper replies: “Excuse me it is ma’am, it is ma’am. You need to settle down and mind your own business.”  

When the GameStop associate intervenes the woman thought he called her “sir” again and she screamed: “Motherf*****, take it outside if you want to call me sir again. I will show you a f***ing sir.”

However, not done yet, she did an abrupt turn and again began berating the worker, demanding the company’s corporate number so she could make a complaint.

“I will get you that number right now,” the store associate says. There is a pause before the woman replies, “No, you’re just going to keep bumping your gums. You’re just going to keep bumping your gums and disrespecting trans people in this store. Which I plan on telling the entire LGBTQ community. You’re going to lose money over this.”

Google Assistant might soon have its own list- and note-taking functions instead of leaning on third-party apps. The 9to5Google team has sifted through the Google search app’s code to discover an unannounced “Lists and Notes” web app for Assistant that lets you jot down important information to sync across devices. It’s extremely basic (you can’t do much more than add titles), but there’s a degree of polish that suggests it’s not just an experiment.

It’s not clear if or when Google might put this app into service. Any such move might leave people scratching their head — if you already use Google Keep or Google Tasks, why switch to this? While it might be there to accommodate people who don’t want stand-alone apps, it could seem redundant if you’re already deep in the Google ecosystem.

Until now, casting video to an Android TV through a Google Assistant-enabled device such as a Google Home or the new JBL soundbar has been a fairly simple affair. With the exception of playing Netflix, that is. Now, Google is finally changing that by allowing Google Assistant to play Netflix on Android TV devices.

For reasons unknown, the Google Assistant has been unable to launch Netflix with an Android TV as the target device. This is an odd omission for an OS that’s supposed to have the same basic functionality as a Chromecast. With this recent update, the feature has been added in to Assistant’s suite, Google confirmed to Android Police. Other Assistant-enabled devices, such as the NVIDIA Shield and the new Xiaomi Mi Box have also been updated.

The experience that Android TV offers has been billed by some as superior to Chromecast thanks to a more intuitive UI and the ability to use a TV remote, though others have called it a bit of a mess. But given Chromecast’s basic feature set, it’s understandably frustrating that Android TV would lack the ability to take such a basic command from Google Assistant.

Android TV’s presence in the home has been growing steadily and somewhat surprisingly over the last couple of years. When it first launched, it was in a Google-made set-top box called the Nexus Player. While Android TV hardware never took off as a competitor to Roku or Apple TV, many brands, including Sony, Phillips and Sharp, offer smart TVs with the OS built in. Android TV may never dominate the living room, but at least it’s got a nifty new feature to flaunt.

To date, using Google’s real-time translations has officially required a set of Pixel Buds. But what if you’d rather not use the official audio gear ? You might not have to. Droid Life has noticed that Google quietly changed a support page to state that real-time translation is available for “all Assistant-optimized headphones and Android phones,” not just Pixel Buds and Pixel phones as the page said as recently as October 11th.

Users have already verified that this works on a basic level — you can use the Pixel 3’s USB-C headphones to translate on a non-Pixel phone. The question is whether or not translation works as seamlessly with third-party audio. LG’s Tone Platinum SE has a dedicated Google Assistant button with translation support, but that wasn’t a promise of universal access. Now, Google is making it clear that it wants a whole ecosystem of headphones that can translate on the spot.

You’d think the Nest x Yale Lock would support Google Assistant from the outset given its pedigree, but not so — you’ve had to use the app. It’s finally here, though. As of August 29th, you can use Google Assistant to control the Nest x Yale Lock with your voice. You can lock the door or check its status whether or not you’re at home, including as part of Assistant’s Routines. If you’re ready to pack it in for the night, you can lock the door as you’re shutting off the lights.

The feature works on both smartphones as well as Assistant-equipped smart speakers like the Google Home series. There’s no mention of unlocking (probably for the best given the security risks), but this might be ideal if you’d rather not pull out your phone just to be sure the door really is locked.
