Wenger departed Arsenal after 22 years in charge during the summer with Unai Emery taking over at the Emirates.

Wenger had stagnated at Arsenal with the Gunners last winning the Premier League under him in 2004.

They had tasted success in the FA Cup, lifting the trophy in three of the past five seasons.

Wenger is currently out of work with reports suggesting he turned down the Fulham job this week.

It’s now been claimed Bayern Munich have made an offer to the Frenchman amid uncertainty surrounding Niko Kovac’s position as head coach.

And Wenger has admitted he misses many general things that come with being a football manager.

“There are many things I don’t miss at all,” Wenger told beIN SPORTS. “All that stuff around the game nowadays that you have to deal with.

“But of course the day, the competition, the achievement that you can do together, sharing emotions, ups and downs, you miss that.

“I was a bit lost [once I had gone] because you wander, you have time in front of you.

“There are always problems to solve, when you have sorted one out there is another coming straight away and suddenly you don’t have that in front of you.

“Also there is always a next game as a target in your life.

“I took it as a challenge. I don’t like to look back, I always like to look in front.”

At 69 years of age, many expected the Arsenal job to be Wenger’s last.

However he has confirmed that he still wishes to get back into management.

He added: “People put you always in cases you know retired or finished.

“You know that when you hear people want to finish you completely yes.

“I think as long as you have an appetite for life you want to be useful and do something that is useful.

“And as well I believe that the big advantage we have I have from my experience 35 years without stopping in the game sharing what I know without the people.”

The 69-year-old, who ended his 22-year reign at Arsenal at the end of last season, announced today that he is due to take his first job since leaving The Emirates.

However, the Frenchman insists that, as yet, he still does not know where that will ne.

Asked when he would be back in management, the Frenchman told Sky Sports News: “At the beginning of the year.

“It will seem odd to go somewhere else but I can’t tell you (where) because I don’t know where I’ll be. I’ll be somewhere – but I don’t know where.

“I have had a good rest and watched football a lot. I have many good memories, so I miss them.”

Wenger is pleased with Arsenal’s progress this season – the Gunners have impressed after losing their first two Premier League games under Unai Emery and currently lie four points off top spot.

He said: “When Arsenal win I am happy. I felt I worked very hard and I think I left it (the club) in good shape.

“After that, I’m a supporter like anyone else – I want them to win football games.”

The Gunners are currently four points off top spot in the Premier League and, asked by talkSPORT if they could win it, Wenger replied “Why not?

“When you look at last season at home we won 15, drew two and lost two – it’s away we were not good enough.

“But overall the quality’s there. They have a chance – but at the moment we have some other teams who look very strong as well.”

Mikel Arteta: Arsene Wenger reveals why Arsenal should appoint former captain https://briefnews.eu/mikel-arteta-arsene-wenger-reveals-why-arsenal-should-appoint-former-captain/ https://briefnews.eu/mikel-arteta-arsene-wenger-reveals-why-arsenal-should-appoint-former-captain/#respond Thu, 17 May 2018 15:07:04 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/mikel-arteta-arsene-wenger-reveals-why-arsenal-should-appoint-former-captain/

Arsenal are on the hunt for a new boss after Arsene Wenger left his post at the end of the season following 22 years in charge.

Former player and captain Arteta remains one of the favourites to replace the Frenchman and Wenger believes he has the credentials to do the job.

“He has all the qualities to do the job, yes and I think as well he is one of the favourites,” he told beinSPORTS.

“He was a leader, and he has a good passion for the game and he knows the club well, he knows what is important at the club and he was captain of the club. Why Not?”

Much has been made of Arteta’s lack of managerial experience, however Wenger believes Arsenal’s experienced coaching personnel can help guide the Spanish manager.

Arteta has been learning his trade under Pep Guardiola as one of his assistants at Manchester City.

“I left a lot of experience behind me, people who were with me like Steve Bould who has six years experience, and Jens Lehmann too,” Wenger added.

MIKEL ARTETA ‘READY’ TO TAKE ARSENAL JOB BEFORE WORLD CUP

“He has been an assistant of Guardiola as well, so overall I think he has the qualities.”

Despite Wenger heaping praise on Arteta’s suitability he says he doesn’t want to influce the board’s decision.

“I don’t want to influence that publicly because for me I believe it is important that they make their choice in an objective way and after once they make a decision I will support them,” he said.

Arteta is set to meet Gunners chiefs to discuss the possibility of taking charge with the club wanting a man in place before the World Cup.

Express Sport understands that majority shareholder Stan Kroenke and the rest of the board will meet on Monday to discuss giving the job to the Spaniard.

City boss Guardiola has already stated he won’t get in Arteta’s way if he opts to move to the Emirates.

“What we have done this season, Mikel his contribution was outstanding, amazing, we work together so good,” he said.

“If he stays I will be the happiest guy in the world and if he decides to move because he has this offer, this option, I will not say you do not have to go. I want the best for my friends and he’s a friend of mine.

“If he decides to go, I will be so sad but I will understand his decision because it’s his career, his life, his family, and I am not the right guy to say you don’t have to do that.

“But hopefully he can stay and finish what we started together in the upcoming years.”

Arsenal to step up managerial hunt as Arsene Wenger signs off after 22 years https://briefnews.eu/arsenal-to-step-up-managerial-hunt-as-arsene-wenger-signs-off-after-22-years/ https://briefnews.eu/arsenal-to-step-up-managerial-hunt-as-arsene-wenger-signs-off-after-22-years/#respond Mon, 14 May 2018 10:46:49 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/arsenal-to-step-up-managerial-hunt-as-arsene-wenger-signs-off-after-22-years/

The curtain came down on Wenger’s Arsenal career yesterday as they won 1-0 at Huddersfield – their first away win of 2018.

And the club will now ramp up the process of appointing his successor.

Massimiliano Allegri has seemingly ruled himself out of the job after claiming he will stay at Juventus another year.

“If they don’t sack me, I’ll stay at Juventus next year too,” he said.

Allegri was keen to hold talks with Arsenal but was concerned over the budget for transfers with Wenger’s successor set to be handed just £50m before player sales.

That now puts a younger – and cheaper – head coach-type candidate as the most likely outcome.

Arsenal have reservations over both Luis Enrique and Diego Simeone and are no longer considering either for the role.

Mikel Arteta has emerged as the favourite over the weekend while there is still support for Julian Nagelsmann in the boardroom.

Patrick Vieira remains a potential candidate with reports on Sunday claiming he, as well as Arteta and Nagelsmann, would be interviewed for the role in the coming weeks.

Arsenal want to make a decision before the World Cup starts – giving them a month today – to give the new man the chance to revamp the squad and work through the whole pre-season.

Other options for a head coach style appointment could be former Liverpool No 2 Zeljko Buvac or Rui Faria, who is leaving Manchester United at the end of the season.

Wenger is having no say on his replacement and has been keen to steer clear of offering advice, although has said he believes the current squad is strong enough to challenge for the league with a few additions.

“I see a bright future for my successor because the team has a good attitude and quality,” he said yesterday.

“The team needs some additions and if they get them I think they will compete for the Premier League title.”

Wenger, who leaves after nearly 22 years in charge, admitted he was sad to go, again hinting the timing of his departure was not his choice.

“Of course it is very emotional after 1,235 games for the same club,” he said.

“To enjoy it we had to win it, winning football games is what makes me happy and the boys did it. It was a good day for everyone with Huddersfield staying up too.

“Do I feel relief? Not really, I’m sad. At some stage it has to end, I wish everyone well, the fans have been great until the end and I wish the club well for the future.

“It will be hard to adjust of course but I will have to deal with that. I want to wish this group of players well and the staff coming in, I will remain an Arsenal fan above everything else.

“I believe I had an impact on the club as a whole because the club is in a strong position, it has a new stadium, a new training ground and new players.

“With the results we won three Premier League titles, played 49 games unbeaten and I’m very proud to have won seven FA Cups too.”

Pep Guardiola admits he wouldn’t stand in Arteta’s way if he was approached by Arsenal.

“If he stays I will be the happiest guy in the world and if he decides to move because he has this offer, this option, I will not say you do not have to go,” he said.

“I want the best for my friends and he’s a friend of mine.

“If he decides to go, I will be so sad but I will understand his decision because it’s his career, his life, his family, and I am not the right guy to say you don’t have to do that.”

Unai Emery favourite to replace Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager – EXCLUSIVE https://briefnews.eu/unai-emery-favourite-to-replace-arsene-wenger-as-arsenal-manager-exclusive/ https://briefnews.eu/unai-emery-favourite-to-replace-arsene-wenger-as-arsenal-manager-exclusive/#respond Sun, 13 May 2018 03:46:04 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/unai-emery-favourite-to-replace-arsene-wenger-as-arsenal-manager-exclusive/

The Gunners will move for the departing Paris Saint-Germain coach Emery after both Luis Enrique and Max Allergi expressed reservations about the two tier management structure.

A major obstacle however is thought to be that the Spaniard wants around £8.5million a year to move to the capital when he leaves PSG.

Arsenal will surely be reluctant to part with such a figure after a large outlay in January.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were purchased and German international Mesut Ozil was also handed a bumper new contract to add to the wage bill.

Emery joined PSG from Sevilla two years ago but has not been a success at a club that now expects to win every competition they are involved in.

The 46-year-old could only finish second behind Monaco in his first season in charge and has been playing catch up ever since.

Although the Ligue 1 title was secured this time around to go with double Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue glory, his ultimate failings have come in Europe.

PSG failed to make an impact in the Champions League after suffering painful exits at the last-16 stage to Spanish opposition in both seasons.

Last year the club were embarrassed by Barcelona who came back from a 4-0 deficit from the first leg in Paris to win the tie 6-5 on aggregate.

And after leading in the Bernabeu against Real Madrid, the Parisians ended up losing both legs to once again fall short this season.

Emery arrived at PSG with a strong reputation after guiding Sevilla to three consecutive Europa League wins and also performed well with limited resources at Valencia.

But ultimately the Spaniard has been unable to deliver the one big prize that the Qatari owners crave.

Wenger himself has previously supported Emery after increased media speculation grew about his tenure at PSG.

“Watching from outside Unai Emery for me is a very competent person and if PSG want to move forward that they need a project based on stability,” said Wenger.

“So I’m not like you thinking Unai Emery should go. People are always very quick to make rapid decisions. Once they’re in charge it changes a little bit.”

Emery is also fancied by West Ham United who are yet to confirm that David Moyes will still be at the London Stadium come the start of next season.

Wenger will take charge of his final game as Arsenal manager today after 22 years at the helm.

His final opponents, Huddersfield, will also be in celebratory mood after already securing their Premier League survival and Wenger was full of praise for the Yorkshire side.

“Huddersfield….they go to City, they go to Chelsea. That is incredible….absolutely exceptional,” he said.

“But I will say to the players the best way to prepare the future is win the next game and go into a positive mind into next season.”

Sell Harry Kane to Arsenal for £100m? Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger delivers warning to Spurs https://briefnews.eu/sell-harry-kane-to-arsenal-for-100m-arsenal-boss-arsene-wenger-delivers-warning-to-spurs/ https://briefnews.eu/sell-harry-kane-to-arsenal-for-100m-arsenal-boss-arsene-wenger-delivers-warning-to-spurs/#respond Sat, 12 May 2018 03:54:45 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/sell-harry-kane-to-arsenal-for-100m-arsenal-boss-arsene-wenger-delivers-warning-to-spurs/

Wenger, who managed Arsenal through their move from Highbury to the Emirates just over a decade ago, fears that paying for the move may come at an unexpected cost.

“There are some things that have changed,” he said. “The impact of the transfers has increased a lot. The prices have gone up and the prices for the stadium have doubled.

“It has not really happened in recent seasons here because other clubs have used outside resources. We had a double handicap. We had to pay back the debt and had to face the competition where clubs have even more resources than they usually have.

“The transfers of the players have tripled or quadrupled. A £10million player when we built the stadium was huge. Today a guy like Kane, I don’t know for much they can sell him. £100m? So they might get more supply.

“But they have to face it. Will they have to sell players? Even to Arsenal maybe!”

His tongue may have been firmly in his cheek for the final comment, but he knows just how difficult the transition was on the other side of north London.

Club sources are now openly admitting that the first fixtures of the new season may have to be played away from home but are adamant the club’s new home will be ready for them to move in for the 2018-19.

Ahead of his final game at Huddersfield tomorrow, Wenger was asked if he regretted leaving Highbury.

“I believe Highbury had a special spirit,” he said. “It’s a cathedral, a church. You could smell the soul of every guy that played there. So it was special. It will always be special for me.

“The Emirates for me was like buying a new house. It took us a while to feel at home there. It’s a fantastic stadium – but there was something special at Highbury that you could never recreate when you build something new.

“But we had to do it. There is no club that can turn people who wanted to attend the game down. At the time I thought we were a bit too ambition with 60,000 but at the end of the day it worked.”

One home that Wenger hinted he would never change was his family base in Totteridge.

“Here is my home,” he said. “I lived here for 22 years, my daughter has spent her whole life here, she is going to university here. I feel at home here.

“My way was Totteridge to London Colney. I don’t even know where London is. It’s not far but I honestly don’t know how you get to the centre. You have to teach me that because in 22 years basically I’ve never been unless with a driver.”

Huddersfield manager David Wagner insists the celebrations are only just starting at his club.

The Terriers will stage another big bash to mark their miracle Premier League escape as a follow-up to hitting London’s nightspots until the early hours on Thursday after securing top flight safety.

After giving his partying players 48 hours to recover, Town manager Wagner revealed more mayhem is in the pipeline after the final day visit by Arsenal.

“If any group of players deserve to celebrate like they’ve never done before, then it’s these,” he said. “There will be a big celebration on Sunday.”

Arsene Wenger makes new job revelation after Emirates farewell ahead of Arsenal exit https://briefnews.eu/arsene-wenger-makes-new-job-revelation-after-emirates-farewell-ahead-of-arsenal-exit/ https://briefnews.eu/arsene-wenger-makes-new-job-revelation-after-emirates-farewell-ahead-of-arsenal-exit/#respond Tue, 08 May 2018 18:48:14 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/arsene-wenger-makes-new-job-revelation-after-emirates-farewell-ahead-of-arsenal-exit/

Wenger confirmed he would leave Arsenal at the end of the season after 22 years at the club.

On Sunday Wenger said goodbye to the Emirates after overseeing his final home game of the season.

But he has stressed he will remain in football and could manage another club.

And he admits the job offers have flowed in, but insists he will wait until the season is over before deciding his future.

And speaking in his pre-Leicester press conference, Wenger was asked if he had received offers from clubs.

“Yes,” he said. “More than I expected.

“But I’m not analysing or considering anything. I want to work well here until the last day of my contract.

“For sure I will be active. My brain demands work and is active.

“I have huge experience in management. Overall, I will work.

“What will I do? I don’t know.”

Wenger has two games remaining at Arsenal before leaving the club to pick a new boss.

Max Allegri and Luis Enrique are the favourites and Wenger thinks whoever his successor is they can challenge for the title with a couple of key signings.

“I would say the squad doesn’t need much because there’s huge potential there,” he said.

“It needs two or three additions and this team will compete for the championship next season.”

Sven Mislintat and Raul Sanllehi are leading the process to appoint a new boss and Express Sport understands they want someone in place before the start of the World Cup.

Arsenal are expected to make big changes to the playing squad with a goalkeeper, centre back and central midfielder the key areas needing to be addressed.

But until the new manger is appointed Mislintat will be working on targets to bring in.

Arsenal appear to have made a breakthrough with Jack Wilshere and a new deal now looks close.

Wenger said: “The latest conversation I had with Jack looks positive for the club. I am not involved in the negotiations anymore but of course I am still in touch with Jack.

“If he wants my advice, I will give it to him. I’m convinced, like I always was, that his future is here.”

Arsene Wenger replacement: Massimiliano Allegri backed to become next Arsenal manager https://briefnews.eu/arsene-wenger-replacement-massimiliano-allegri-backed-to-become-next-arsenal-manager/ https://briefnews.eu/arsene-wenger-replacement-massimiliano-allegri-backed-to-become-next-arsenal-manager/#respond Tue, 08 May 2018 06:52:33 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/arsene-wenger-replacement-massimiliano-allegri-backed-to-become-next-arsenal-manager/

That’s the verdict of former Gunners striker Kevin Campbell, who says the Italian has the tactical nous for the job.

Arsene Wenger announced last month that he will leave Arsenal in the summer and that has sparked a search for a new manager.

A whole host of big names have been tipped to succeed Wenger, from out-of-work Carlo Ancelotti to Napoli gaffer Maurizio Sarri.

Allegri is one of the frontrunners to take the veteran Frenchman’s place in the Emirates dugout following his exploits at Juventus.

And Campbell has now backed the 50-year-old to lead Arsenal in the wake of Wenger’s end-of-season departure.

“I think Allegri,” Campbell told Sky Sports. “He’s someone who knows defensive football as well as attacking.

“His teams are very good when they lose the ball. I think he’s favourite.”

Campbell also outlined why former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique might fall out of the reckoning to replace Wenger.

“I like Luis Enrique too, but apparently there might be issues over wages,” he added.

Wenger, meanwhile, will end his 22-year stay at Arsenal with fixtures against Leicester and Huddersfield this week.

Arsenal had been on course to reach the Europa League final too but were knocked out at the last-four stage by Atletico Madrid.

Arsene Wenger replacement: Arsenal decide on new manager but face fresh setback https://briefnews.eu/arsene-wenger-replacement-arsenal-decide-on-new-manager-but-face-fresh-setback/ https://briefnews.eu/arsene-wenger-replacement-arsenal-decide-on-new-manager-but-face-fresh-setback/#respond Mon, 07 May 2018 18:56:55 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/arsene-wenger-replacement-arsenal-decide-on-new-manager-but-face-fresh-setback/

Arsenal have been on the hunt for a new manager to take over from Wenger since his departure was announced last month.

Allegri and Enrique have been heavily linked with the Emirates job to provide top-level experience in a time of change at the club.

But former players Mikel Arteta, Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira are also understood to be under consideration as the club looks to a new era.

Chief executive Ivan Gazidis, head of football relations Raul Sanllehi and head of recruitment Sven Mislintat will ultimately decide on the new man.

And Sky Sports say Arsenal would like Allegri or Enrique to become the manager.

But Arsenal’s hopes of recruiting them is in doubt due to worries over the structure at the Emirates.

The new manager at Arsenal is not expected to wield the same level of power and influence Wenger exerted at the club.

Following his final home game as manager on Sunday, Wenger offered some advice to whoever takes over.

Wenger said: ”The new man inherits a team which is much better than people think it is, and I’m convinced, you can see the togetherness in the team is special.

“With the right additions this team will challenge next year.”

Former Arsenal defender Johan Djourou has backed Arteta to take over.

“That’s a difficult question because you’ve had such a long time with one coach that has been doing a great job for such a long time,” said Djourou.

“Of course, the last few years wasn’t so successful, but what he has brought to the mentality of the club… I think you cannot replace what he’s done.

“For me, it’s a new beginning, it’s a new era, it’s a new start. I think if you want to do a new start you have to go with someone who is maybe young, with a good philosophy, with a great mind as well. So, I don’t know, it’s hard to say.

“Allegri has good experience, Luis Enrique as well, but maybe I see someone like Mikel Arteta, maybe. Because he’s the second coach of Guardiola so he has this football mentality and he played for Arsenal before, so I don’t know.

“I think the future will tell but there are a lot of great minds and great coaches that could bring this team up in the future.”

Arsene Wenger praises 'classy' Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho after Arsenal defeat https://briefnews.eu/arsene-wenger-praises-classy-sir-alex-ferguson-and-jose-mourinho-after-arsenal-defeat/ https://briefnews.eu/arsene-wenger-praises-classy-sir-alex-ferguson-and-jose-mourinho-after-arsenal-defeat/#respond Sun, 29 Apr 2018 20:06:15 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/arsene-wenger-praises-classy-sir-alex-ferguson-and-jose-mourinho-after-arsenal-defeat/

Wenger will leave Arsenal at the end of the season after 22 years at the club.

And before his Arsenal side faced Manchester United, Ferguson gave Wenger a gift in tribute.

Wenger then posed for pictures with Mourinho and Ferguson before former Arsenal ace Alexis Sanchez shook his hand.

The Frenchman is known for his great rivalries with both Ferguson and Mourinho over his Arsenal reign.

But when asked about United’s presentation after the match, Wenger was grateful for the gift.

“It was very nice and classy,” he said.

“I enjoyed it. I have come here for a long long time.

“Next year, someone else will be in the dug-out and it will be a hostile environment again.”

Mourinho also spoke about the surprise pre-game incident, saying: “I think we did it fantastically well as a club.

“It would mean more for Sir Alex to do it.

“I only played Mr Wenger three or four times as United manager.”

In the match itself, Arsenal lost their sixth consecutive away game as Marouane Fellaini scored with a stoppage-time header.

And Mourinho felt his side deserved the victory.

”I think if it was a draw it wouldn’t be unfair,” he said.

“Arsenal did a good game, they defended well, but we were the team that tried to win that created a few more chances. But that is normal. We were a bit lucky to score, but we were stronger in the last 20 minutes.

“We won three points that kill the Champions League story. But we still need four points to finish second which is what we want.”
