Many people have come to expect apps to be free or $0.99 at most. While many price points of paid apps naturally align with this expectation, many other businesses have been able to command prices that are much higher. In fact, there are multiple apps on both App Stores that command a price of more than $100.
If you fit the profile of an average mobile device user, you have likely faced the operating system warning of limited storage space. This may prompt you to delete old photos and uninstall unused apps. To guide mobile marketing teams when considering the storage space their app consumes, they analyzed the file sizes of paid apps.
The average free app requires almost 150 MB of storage space while the average premium app exceeds 250 MB of storage space.
Check out more insights from this premium apps study in the infographic from CleverTap below:

Turkey is changing the way visas are purchased on Monday 29 October. Until this date travellers could buy an e-visa at Turkish airports or in designated Wi-Fi areas.
From Monday, tourists and business travellers will have to apply for an e-visa before they travel.
Kiosks and designated areas to buy the travel document will no longer be available on arrival in Turkey.
The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has updated its travel advice for Turkey accordingly.
“From 29 October 2018, self-service e-Visa kiosks and Wi-Fi areas where visitors can apply for an e-Visa on arrival will no longer be available in Turkish airports,” said the FCO website. “You must apply for your e-Visa before you travel.”
Travellers can get an e-Visa online before travel through the official Republic of Turkey e-Visa website.
An e-visa costs $ 20 (£15.50) and you can pay using a credit or debit card. Tourists can apply up to three months in advance of their travel date.
The FCO warns against being scammed when it comes to purchasing visas on unauthorised websites.
“Some unauthorised websites may charge for information about e-Visas, and for submitting applications,” said the FCO.
“These websites are not endorsed by or associated with the Turkish government.
“Be wary of such sites and businesses, particularly those that seek additional fees for other services. Some unauthorised websites have also issued fake e-Visas.”
Turkish visit visas are valid for multiple stays up to a maximum of 90 days in a 180 day period, explains the FCO website.
It’s recommended travellers print off a paper copy of their e-visa to carry with them, in case of problems with the computer systems in Turkey.
Additionally, make sure passports have a blank page for the visa stamp. If one isn’t available, Turkish authorities will issue an ‘Entry-Exit form’ and put the entry-exit stamp on there.
“You should carry this form with you in Turkey and present it to the border officers when you leave,” advised the FCO.
Tourists should also ensure their passport has at least since months left of validity form the date they enter Turkey.
Cruise ship passengers with ‘British Citizen’ passports will not need an e-visa if their visit to the country doesn’t exceed 72 hours.
Tourists visiting Turkey are also being advised by the FCO to be cautious when buying antiques in souks or markets as taking certain historical items back to the UK could land them in jail.
The FCO is warning Britons on holiday there that possession, sale and export of antiquities is against the law.
Tourists may not be aware upon purchase but such antiques can be found in souks and markets, albeit rarely.
To allow the process to run as smoothly and quickly as possible, hiring managers sometimes enlist the support of a recruiter or the human resources department.
Prior to the beginning the search process, the hiring manager will share a list of attributes and desired skills they want prospective candidates to possess. The recruiter or human resources representative will then quickly narrow candidates by reviewing resumes, cover letters, referral documents, social media profiles or through screening interviews.
I have been a hiring manager for 16 years, and over the course of this time, I have reviewed thousands of cover letters. Most have been dull, but some have been captivating, inspiring me to give the candidate a closer look.
To ensure you stand out from the crowd, I recommend you these 8 tips for the best cover letter for job application to land your dream job:
While most positions require a cover letter, some employers will explicitly tell you what they want to see in the cover letter.
For instance, some companies will ask you to document relevant experience, and some may ask you to detail how you might approach your initial 90 days with the company.
The point is there is no such thing as a standard cover letter, so read the guidelines or application instructions thoroughly before you begin crafting your cover letter.
As much as you want and need to highlight your accomplishments, the cover letter should be a good blend of who you are and what you can offer.
You want to quickly summarize relevant experience, while also speaking to how your candidacy and employment will meet the company’s needs now and in the future.
Everyone wants to be wanted for who they are, not what they can offer. Companies are no exception.
Culturally-aware executives want to hire people who have a genuine interest in the company’s mission, not just the vacant position.
Many companies place a higher premium on mission-alignment than they do on talent. This is key because a talented person who does not buy-in to the company’s mission and vision will ultimately become a hindrance to growth and may adversely impact the company culture.
Further, the danger of coming across as “just looking for a job” is hiring managers have no indication how long you will stay with their organization.
Most managers want to gamble on someone who they reasonably believe will remain with their company for a minimum of a couple of years, but much longer if possible.
The cover letters that catch my attention are the ones that speak to what a person can bring to my company.
While I am interested in candidate’s background, I am also interested in the value-add they bring to the organization. If a hiring manager wants a list of accomplishments or work history, they can scan the resume.
The cover letter should offer a broader glimpse into the candidate and what they offer the organization.
Prior to drafting a cover letter, go through your prospective employer’s website. Check out their press releases, annual reports, white papers and other material to get a sense of the language they use and how they talk about their work.
Once you understand or have a good sense of company vernacular, begin working on your cover letter. Mirroring the words and phrases the company uses signals that you understand the industry you are seeking to enter which is a bonus for many employers.
If you are mirroring the language of the company to which you are applying, you will need to tailor or customize your cover letter.
Customizing your letter gives it character. If you use a standard template for cover letters, the lack of effort you invest in presenting yourself to the prospective employer will show.
More serious candidates who take the time to write customized letters will undoubtedly have the upper hand.
Besides, there is nothing worse than using the same standard letter for all openings, only to mistakenly send the wrong letter to the wrong employer. The bad impression may be impossible to overcome.
It is essential to copy-edit your cover letter before submitting it for a position. This is one of the easiest things to overlook, and it is one of the fastest things that will cause you to be disqualified during the screening process.
When hiring managers, interview screeners are reviewing multiple candidates, they look for quick and easy ways to narrow the applicant pool. Many will set aside a resume, cover letter or writing samples with errors on them. And they rightly should.
If you don’t exercise attention to detail in catching typos or grammatical errors when applying for a position, a hiring manager has no reason to believe you will apply diligence once employed with them.
Once you write a compelling cover letter, make it easy for the hiring manager or recruiter to contact you.
In your signature, include your phone number and email address. In the event, your cover letter is separated from your resume, the recruiter will not have to go digging for how to find you.
Without fail, I am always surprised by how much my writing improves when I take the time to put my writing away for anywhere from several hours to a day or more.
I catch typos that I inadvertently missed during the initial review, and I find new and more succinct ways of making my point. I can cut extraneous words and phrases, which results in punchier lines and more impactful sentences.
Cover letter writing is no exception. Try to write your cover letter and put it away for a minimum of a few hours and a maximum of a couple of days. You will not regret how distance improves your copy.
While it may appear there is a lot to do prior to submitting cover letters, the bottom line is to apply as much thought and attention to detail as possible.
Doing this will place you several steps ahead of the competition positioning you to land the dream job you have always imagined.

The International Biathlon Union (IBU) has voted against awarding Russia full membership status at its 2018 congress on Friday, meaning the country will remain only a provisional member.
READ MORE: 4 Russian biathletes facing fresh doping allegations named
At the union’s annual congress, held in Porec, Croatia, it voted against handing Russia a doping reprieve in the discipline, by 29 votes to 20. The country will now be forced to wait to fully clear its name after being rocked by a series of doping allegations as a result of the McLaren report.
The IBU Congress has voted against the Russian Biathlon Union’s application for full IBU membership.
As a result the RBU remains a provisional member of the IBU.
— IBU (@biathlonworld) September 7, 2018
The ramifications of the IBU’s decision means that Russia is still able to participate in international competitions, but will not be in possession of rights to vote on union matters that are afforded to full members.
The decision comes just one week after four past and present Russian biathletes became embroiled in fresh doping allegations. Alexandr Pechenkin and Vitaly Chernyshov, as well as Olympic gold medalists Svetlana Sleptsova and Evgeny Ustyugov, were all implicated in anti-doping violations.
Among its other decisions taken at the congress, the IBU also decided to hand the Dominican Republic provisional membership while Ireland was green-lighted to become a full member, whereas Kenya received expulsion.

UK passport applications are a complicated business and have recently become more expensive.
Finding the correct photograph and filling out the forms is a dull process and one that costs over £70.
Many may not realise that people can be refused a passport for a number of reasons.
Anyone applying for one outside of the UK has to avoid a number of things that don’t always include a crime or offence.
Being divorced could be something that gets an application rejected.
According to The Economist, 44 per cent of applications were refused in 2016 due to being “out of character”.
The broad reason often includes something illegal such as speeding or assaults but also covers others that are not at all.
This can include drinking, gambling or being divorced, things that are seen as “eccentricity, including beliefs, appearance and lifestyle”.
The number of rejections, approximately 5,500 people, are also able to be refused if their behaviour is “notorious in their local or the wider community”.
People from outside the UK attempting to get a passport fell from 194,370 in 2012 to 123,229 in 2017.
There are a number of things that people need to get right to get a passport in the UK.
One is the passport photo size which must be 45mm by 35mm, and the person must not be smiling.
UK passports will also need to be countersigned to allow the person to meet the criteria for the travel document.
It must be someone who knows the person such as a neighbour or colleague.
This cannot include someone they are related to or in a relationship with.
One notable person who had to recently apply for a British passport was Meghan Markle, after becoming engaged to Prince Harry.
Prince Harry’s communication’s secretary, Jason Knauf, confirmed to the BBC that she “intends to become a UK citizen,” but warned the process can take a few years.
She would need to apply for a family visa, which lasts up to two and a half years.
After five years, permanent residency can then be granted after a citizenship test.
It comes at a price; it costs £1,282 for a citizenship application.
Tesla’s solar roof tiles are revolutionary because they look like regular shingles. They cut out the need for unsightly solar panels while delivering about 98 percent of the efficiency of normal solar panels, which is quite the feat. Now, thanks to Electrek‘s discovery of Tesla’s patent application for these tiles, we have a better idea of how they work.
As you can imagine, the technology is incredibly complicated. Basically, the solar cells are under a special louvered glass. The way this glass reflects light makes the tiles look like normal shingles from the street level. However, the glass is transparent from an overhead view. which allows the solar cells to do their job. “The louvers are designed to provide viewing obstruction to the photovoltaic cells . . . when viewed from a side angle but to minimally impede solar energy passed to the photovoltaic cells.”
The application contains these images which demonstrates how these solar tiles work.

The application also elaborates on how the solar roof tiles can have different colors when viewed from certain angles. “The plurality of louvers may have a design color that causes the solar panel to have the appearance of the design color when viewed from a side angle, thereby obscuring the solar panel from view,” the patent application says. “Further, with this construct, the solar panel may have the design color when viewed from the side angle and a differing color when viewed from the other side angle.”

Although at first glance Japanese knotweed may seem to be a relatively harmless plant, due to the invasive nature of its root system that extends to around two to three metres laterally from the visible element of the plant and approximately two metres deep, the damage it inflicts to nearby underground structures and building foundations can be severe.
In addition to the subterranean structural issues, Japanese knotweed will also invade and exploit any weakness in the external integrity of a building, growing into wall cavities, joints in concrete, cracks in broken mortar, bricks and paving slabs, as well as damaging drains and sewers.
Due to its fast spreading nature, the plant is not only a threat to the property where it is growing, but also to neighbouring homes as well.
Under Environmental laws, failure to control the spread of the plant can result in civil nuisance claims which can mean legal action and heavy financial penalties.
That’s because Japanese knotweed can reduce the value of a property between £25,000 and £50,000 if it’s formally identified by a surveyor.
The tricky thing is that Japanese knotweed looks different at varying times of the year, making it harder to recognise.
GETTY
Japanese Knotweed can reduce the value of a property between £25,000 and £50,000
Japanese knotweed is the country’s most invasive plant. It grows aggressively and can cause serious damage to a building’s structure
In the next few weeks as we move out of Winter when the plant will have been dormant, new red shoots will appear with the warmer Spring weather, which then turn green after a few days and start to look like asparagus.
These quickly turn into fast-growing stems with a bamboo-like appearance.
Japanese knotweed is normally fully developed by early summer and can sprout up to three metres high in just a few short months, when the risks of it causing damage to buildings and driveways is at its peak.
It generally flowers in late summer, when it displays clusters of small white or cream flowers and deep green leaves which are, ironically, almost heart-shaped in appearance.
But don’t let this weed’s innocent appearance fool you; this is a horticultural thug that you need to get under control as soon as you possibly can.
Due to the amount of damage that Japanese knotweed causes, if it’s discovered at a property as a result of a normal mortgage valuation or property survey, many lenders will either refuse a mortgage altogether or impose specific criteria if they do decide to proceed at all.

Of course, either outcome can wreak havoc with plans if you’re trying to buy or sell a property that is suffering from a knotweed infestation, or if you’re trying to remortgage your home and a surveyor identifies it in your garden.
As Chris Irwin, senior mortgage manager at Yorkshire Building Society commented: “Japanese knotweed is the country’s most invasive plant. It grows aggressively and can cause serious damage to a building’s structure. This is why banks and building societies often take a cautious view when lending on a property that has the plant growing close by.
“Having the plant on your premises may not necessarily prevent a borrower from getting a mortgage. However, it’s important to know that each lender has a different view on Japanese knotweed and will also rely on the advice of a property valuer. For instance, depending on the severity of growth of the weed and its proximity to the property, we may ask for a specialist report, and in some cases we may not lend.”
Because the formal identification of knotweed can cause such a problem for those trying to sell a property or remortgage, it’s best to take action quickly if you think that it may be present.
Eradication of a knotweed infestation is best undertaken by a specialist removal company, as if you are trying to sell or raise a mortgage the lender will normally require evidence of treatment programme with a ten-year insurance backed guarantee.

The plant can cause serious problems when trying to sell or remortgage a property
Far from being an isolated problem, Japanese knotweed is becoming more prevalent across the UK, as Nic Seal, Managing Director of Japanese knotweed specialists Environet UK explained: “The problem is UK wide, because Japanese knotweed is generally spread by soil movement. This means we tend to see more in urban and suburban areas where soil has been moved due to construction, ironically of new homes.
“The issue is that by only treating the visible area of the plant, the root system can go into dormancy which then means when soil is transported elsewhere, for example during the construction process, Japanese knotweed roots can be reactivated and then start growing in the new location. That’s why removing both the roots and the visible element of the weed is so important.”
Nic continued: “It’s best to treat any Japanese knotweed infestation by digging out the entire plant and roots, instead of using herbicides. The two advantages of this approach are that by physically removing the roots the plants aren’t able to grow back, but also this method is much quicker as it only takes days to dig out and remove the knotweed, whereas just spraying with herbicide alone can take three or more years to kill the plant off.”
However, with Japanese knotweed you can’t just treat it and forget about it.
As Brian Murphy, Head of Lending at Mortgage Advice Bureau, cautioned: “If you are selling a property which is either currently affected by Japanese knotweed or has been in the past, you will need to declare this on the legal paperwork that you complete as part of the conveyancing process.
“If you don’t, should the new owner discover Japanese knotweed post-purchase, you may be liable to legal action to recover both the costs of dealing with the infestation and potentially also to mitigate any loss of value to the property as a result of the plant being present.”
Brian continued: “If you are instructing a company to deal with an infestation, it’s worth bearing in mind that the majority of lenders will require that the contractor is a member of the Property Care Association (PCA) or that they can provide evidence that their services are of an equivalent standard.
“Whilst lenders are more relaxed about knotweed now than they were ten years ago, some will still currently refuse to engage. However, a number of the larger high street brands have a much more pragmatic approach and may or will be prepared to lend depending on the class of the knotweed, its proximity to the property and the surveyors comments.”
Usually specialist removal contractors will be able to identify Japanese knotweed from a photograph and are able to provide a quote for removing small amounts of the plant without the need for a physical site survey, and it’s generally cheaper to treat if you catch it early.
So, if you do spot something suspicious in your garden popping up with the Spring bulbs, don’t hesitate. This is one weed that is ‘knot’ to be underestimated.
