Airstream is bringing smart controls to its 2019 Classic RVs, giving users the ability to adjust lights, temperature levels and the awning, monitor battery and propane tank levels and even find their RV if they’ve wandered too far from it. Controls are easy to access via the new Smart Control app through which Airstream customer service, roadside assistance and the owner’s manual are accessible as well. “Digital technology has improved almost every aspect of our lives,” Airstream CEO Bob Wheeler said in a statement. “Shouldn’t it make camping better, too? We think so. That’s why, in keeping with our commitment to innovation, we’re leading the way with our new Smart Control Technology and connectivity solution, starting with our Airstream Classic travel trailers.”

Other features that can be controlled or monitored through the app are vent fans, water tanks and holding tanks. There’s also a WiFi boost feature and a 4G LTE modem to keep you connected as you travel in your camper. Airstream says that all 2019 Airstream Classics will come with a year of unlimited 4G LTE data.

Volvo is launching another spinoff brand, but this time it’s not about convincing you to buy a car… in fact, it might wean you off ownership altogether. The Swedish automaker has unveiled M, a badge devoted to “rethinking traditional car ownership” with an “intuitive app.” Details of what that involves are unsurprisingly vague. However, M is developing “proprietary learning technology” that gauges your specific needs instead of simply telling you where to pick up a car — in other words, a smarter form of car sharing.

M is building on the back of Volvo’s Swedish car sharing service, Sunfleet. Volvo expects to fold Sunfleet into M in 2019. You won’t have to wait that long to see what M is doing, thankfully. It’s revealing more details later in the year, and expects a wider beta test of its offering in the fall.

This isn’t an unusual development when VW and other brands have been setting up their own mobility-focused companies. And the goal is similar: Volvo knows it may lose buyers as app-based services and self-driving cars take hold, and M could give it a similar stream of cash even if its traditional car business suffers.

Convenience stores earned their name by stocking food and everyday items in a shop you could easily reach. But what if your local store isn’t all that close, or it doesn’t carry what you’re looking for? If everything goes according to plan, 7-Eleven might have you covered. It’s testing a mobile app, 7-ElevenNow, that lets you order food, drinks and other products for delivery or in-store pickup. You won’t have to brave the rain just to score a pack of your favorite soft drinks — instead, a courier can bring them to you. The trial is active in 10 Dallas-area stores.

How quickly 7-ElevenNow expands will likely depend on the success of the Dallas trial, but it should reach other American locations in 2018.

The company is no stranger to dipping its toe in the delivery waters — it has even made drone deliveries. It sees features like mobile ordering as a way to expand the reach of its stores beyond their immediate neighborhoods, reducing the need for extra stores and making better use of locations that don’t get much foot traffic. You probably won’t use the mobile app often (it’s a bit ridiculous to pay a delivery fee for some milk and potato chips), but that’s not the point. This is more to cover those times when you’d be tempted to visit another store.

Volvo has just acquired the app-based valet service Luxe, which let users coordinate a driver to park, wash and refuel their car. But the Swedish automaker didn’t pick it up just to convenience its customers — it wants Luxe’s technology and engineers, too.

The valet-tech company was almost bought by Uber back in June; The ridesharing titan was similarly looking to acqui-hire Luxe’s assets and staff, though CEO and cofounder Curtis Lee reportedly wouldn’t be making the jump to Uber. But today’s deal will see Lee accompany his team to Volvo, according to Luxe’s blog post on the matter. Volvo will integrate the valet tech into its own systems in its pursuit of ultimate driver service:

“Our vision is a future in which technology simplifies life so you never have to stop at a petrol station, go to a car wash or even take your car in for service ever again. The acquisition of Luxe is a step towards realising that ambition. I look forward to working closely with the highly talented team at Luxe who created its advanced technology from the ground up,” said Atif Rafiq, Chief Digital Officer at Volvo Cars, in a press release.

Luxe’s tech includes algorithms for routing, logistics planning and arrival time prediction, which will help with unspecified digital services in future Volvo connected cars. Even though most automakers are fixated on developing autonomous systems, some are likewise interested in valet convenience. Daimler recently outfitted its Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart, Germany with a self-parking service as a proof-of-concept.
