Warning: The following contains spoilers for The Boys Season 2, Episode 4. Proceed at your own risk! On this Friday’s The Boys, Homelander faced his worst enemy: himself. Literally! In the episode, the supe flew off to a cabin to reunite with… Madelyn Stillwell?! While Elisabeth Shue did return to reprise her role, it was actually Doppelganger who was taking on her form, per Homelander’s instructions. At first, the leader of The Seven sought out Faux Stillwell for milk and whatever you want to call their twisted relationship. But when that no longer seemed to do the trick, Doppelganger morphed into Homelander and started to seduce the real Homelander! Confronted with himself, Homelander eventually declared, “I don’t need everyone to love me. I don’t need anyone. I. Don’t. Need. You.” Then to really drive home the point (and convince himself?), Homelander killed Doppelganger. Below, his portrayer Antony Starr breaks down the “bizarre” scene and what it says about Homelander’s needy nature. TVLINE | What was your reaction when you read the Homelander vs. Homelander scene in the script for the first time? TVLINE | That scene says a lot about the psychology of Homelander. TVLINE | I’m betting that when you did it previously, the context was quite different. TVLINE | And you probably weren’t wearing a dress like you were on The Boys. TVLINE | When you were filming the scene, did you ever have a moment where you were like, “What am I doing? This is so odd.” TVLINE | When Doppelganger changes from Stillwell into Homelander, what’s going through our Homelander’s mind when he sees himself, and he’s being so suggestive? TVLINE | And the dialogue is so pointed in that moment. He says, “You’re pathetic. I don’t need everyone to love me. I don’t need anyone. I don’t need you.” TVLINE | I find it really interesting that he says he doesn’t need anyone, and he shows a lot of disdain for people, but at the same time, as we really see in Episode 5 next week, he’s so desperate for everyone’s approval. The Boys fans, what did you think of Episode 4? Grade it below, then hit the comments with your thoughts! Today on Wednesday addressed detailed allegations leveled against disgraced former co-anchor Matt Lauer, who now stands accused of rape. Lauer, who was famously and abruptly fired by NBC in November 2017 following claims of inappropriate sexual behavior, is now alleged to have anally raped former NBC News staffer Brooke Nevils when they were both in Sochi covering the 2014 Winter Olympics. According to Ronan Farrow’s new book Catch and Kill, Nevils eventually took her allegations to human resources, but they were characterized as being neither “criminal” nor “assault.” Soon after, her “work life became torture.” She eventually took medical leave and a payment in the “seven figures.” “I feel like we owe it to our viewers to pause for a moment,” Savannah Guthrie said during this morning’s Today broadcast. “This is shocking and appalling, and I honestly don’t even know what to say about it. I want to say that I know it wasn’t easy for our colleague Brooke to come forward then, it’s not easy now, and we support her and any women who have come forward with claims… It’s just very painful for all of us at NBC and who are at the Today show, and, you know, it’s very, very, very difficult.” Co-anchor Hoda Kotb then turned to Guthrie and added, “I’m looking at you and I’m having a weird moment… We were sitting here just like this two years ago, and truth be told, Savannah and I did a little prayer upstairs just before, just to sort out what we were going to do, and I think it’s— it’s like you feel like you’ve known someone for 12 years — and I don’t know if you guys have ever felt like that — you know someone, you feel like you know them inside and out and then all of a sudden, like, a door opens up and it’s a part of them you didn’t know. “We don’t know all the facts in all of this, but they’re not allegations of an affair, they’re allegations of a crime, and I think that’s shocking to all of us here who have sat with Matt for many, many years,” Kotb continued. “I think we’re going to continue to process this part of this horrific story. And as you said, our thoughts are with Brooke. It’s not easy what she did to come forward. It’s not easy at all.” In closing, Guthrie said, “We’re disturbed to our core… We have a commitment to keep you informed, and we will continue to do that.” Watch Today‘s full report by NBC News’ Morgan Radford, followed by Guthrie and Kotb’s statements below. New Zealander Sammi Lee has received death threats for hunting animals such as wild pigs, deer and ducks and posting pictures of herself with her kills online. Today she was on Good Morning Britain to discuss why she hunts, telling hosts Adil and Kate Garraway that she got an “adrenaline rush” from hunting. She told the ITV presenters: “Here in New Zealand, all the game that we hunt has been introduced. Without hunters we would be overrun with deer and pigs, everything.” Sammi added: “Its cheaper for me to go up the hill and shoot a deer that me and my partner can live off for three months than go to supermarket and buy meat that I don’t know where it’s come from.” The presenters went on to probe her on whether she believed she was “glorifying” killing and if that could send out a message to people that killing endangered animals was okay. Speaking about lion hunting in Africa, Sammi said the beasts were “old” and “getting to the end of their lives”. Adil was taken aback and interjected to say: “Hang on. Sammi can I just clarify, you are saying that you would shoot a lion?” “No…” Sammi began before Adil continued: “Why are you defending it then if you wouldn’t shoot a lion? Why are you defending those who do?” “You go out and you pay mega bucks to shoot one lion, that money is going back into those animals,” she insisted. Adil replied: “But I don’t understand that logic at all.” He continued: “That lion is member of a family. READ MORE: ITV This Morning viewers slam guest using crowdfunding for liposuction ‘Earn it yourself’ “You’re choosing to kill and for a lot of human beings that would be a real perverse thing to do.” Kate went on to address the negative backlash Sammi had received online over her posts. “You’ve had death threats tell us about that and why you still continue to post the images online,” Kate asked. Sammi explained: “So I mean last night I had quite a few after the article was released. I’ve had people threatening to shoot my dogs or telling me to turn the shotgun on myself. “I was born and raised the way I am now and I will always be this person.” Adil went on to ask Sammi how she felt when the animals fell to the ground after being shot in the heart or head. “Does it make you feel fantastic?” he questioned. Sammi retorted: “I mean if you’ve walked three or fours hours up a hill and everything is aching…of course we’re going to be happy about it. We make sure the animals all good.” A shocked Adil said: “How can an animal be all good? You’ve killed it, how is it good at that point?” “By making sure it’s definitely dead,” she responded. Adil hit back: “So earlier when you said it immediately dies that wasn’t right, you were wrong there. You’ve just admitted you have to check it’s dead. So it’s a very painful death for these animals?” “No, it makes a decent hole in animal,” Sammi said. “There’s no way it’s going to be alive after a bullet’s gone through it.” As the interview came to a close, Kate and Adil thanked Sammi for coming onto the show. However, Adil then turned to Kate to say: “Its appalling, absolutely appalling. That’s my own view.” Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV. A bonfire party during which a Grenfell Tower effigy was burned while revellers joked about the victims has been branded sick and disgraceful. The video, believed to have been shot in the UK, has been reported to Police. The distressing footage emerged on social media on Monday. In one Twitter post, uploader Kay Oldroyd tagged police saying she wanted the people in the video –whom she described as “beasts”– to be prosecuted. Depicting a bonfire garden party, a group of unidentified individuals can be seen placing a homemade model of the North Kensington tower block above a fire. The building was destroyed by a rapidly-spreading fire in June 2017, killing more than 70 people, many of whom were trapped in the upper floors of the building. Some of these residents had called fire services only to be advised to stay in their homes until firefighters made their way to them and cleared a safe evacuation path. As the cardboard model of the tower block begins to burn, the group of men and women can be heard laughing. One man appears to mockingly say, “stay in your flat” as he re-positions the effigy above burning hot coals. “Help me, help me,” another man shrieks, apparently in jest, as the fire climbs the paper model. I am sickened by this . It should be taken down & media should give it no oxygen . The victims of #Grenfell deserve respect for their dignity under the most traumatic of circumstances. Police have assured me that they will follow up . https://t.co/nrejKyKjws — Nick Hurd (@NickHurdUK) November 5, 2018 A third man adds: “Didn’t it start on the 10th floor? We should have put it upside down.” A comment about a ‘ninja’ thought to be a racist reference to a victim can also be heard. The bonfire footage has provoked outrage online and among politicians, with Home Secretary Sajid Javid describing it as “disgusting” behavior. Shadow Secretary Diane Abbott was equally swift in her condemnation of the video. The survivors of the Grenfell tragedy have acted with unbelievable dignity and deserve the utmost respect. — Sajid Javid (@sajidjavid) November 5, 2018 This is sickening and disgraceful behaviour. The victims of #Grenfell Tower fire suffered an unimaginable death, and the survivors watched their loved ones and homes perish. I am disgusted that people would behave in such a hateful way. https://t.co/8h59xVOUjI — Diane Abbott (@HackneyAbbott) November 5, 2018 Speaking to LBC Radio, London Fire Commissioner Dany Cotton labelled the incident “appalling and disturbing”. The video also caused uproar on social media, with many people calling the bonfire “sick” and disrespectful to those who died in the fire. Not going to share links to the #Grenfell bonfire video, because it's too horrible. But every day I still see the vertical crematorium in which my neighbours burned to death. (No, the 'wrap' doesn't veil its shadow.) Un-fucking-believable doesn't cover it. — KateMaltby (@KateMaltby) November 5, 2018 This is unbelievably disturbing. Whoever made this cardboard Grenfell Tower likely sat chatting whilst planning their creation, carefully cutting out individual shapes of people’s heads to place in windows, who took time to make a stand to burn it on. England in 2018. Chilling. https://t.co/tu2BJ5jsmM — Dr Lauren Gavaghan (@DancingTheMind) November 5, 2018 I’m not sharing it but that video of peopleburning a Grenfell replica on a bonfire is utterly disgusting. — Nikesh Shukla (@nikeshshukla) November 5, 2018 I'm not going to share it because I can't bear to look at it again, but disgusted someone thought it was a good idea to make a Grenfell bonfire night effigy. I feel physically sick. — Elena Cresci (@elenacresci) November 5, 2018 How can so many people, at the same time, be ok with this at whatever party was being held? Nobody said 'hold on, this is a bit fucking sick…' Made my stomach churn watching that. — Scott Inglis (@ScottInglisEFM) November 5, 2018 Like this story? Share it with a friend! Despite being the top seed in Group H, Poland meekly exited the World Cup on Sunday night, following a comprehensive 3-0 defeat by Colombia. Poland is the first European team to be knocked out of Russia 2018. Led by Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, Poland was the 8th-ranked team going into the tournament, largely thanks to its gaming of the FIFA rankings, and confident qualifying performance. But following a somewhat unlucky loss to Senegal, Poland consigned itself to a must win against another surprise first-game loser Colombia. With James Rodriguez the architect, the South Americans demolished the Eagles, who last made it through to the World Cup play-offs 32 years ago. Poland didn’t get a sniff. Speaking to Radio Times, creative director John Yorke teased: “The really big story on Christmas Day, and one of the biggest stories we have ever told on EastEnders, will revolve around Max and how his past actions all come back to haunt him in the most powerful and appalling way.” The writer-producer also revealed that James Wilmott-Brown’s sinister plan to take over Walford, along with his troubled offspring, will collapse as all involved get their “spectacular comeuppance”. He continued: “The story kicks off at the end of November and rapidly builds to a Christmas climax – with the events on Christmas Day laying down the shape of Albert Square for years to come.” Rumours abound of matriarch Tanya Branning’s (Jo Joyner) return before the end of the year, while the Brannings will face more heartache with the departure of daughters Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) and Abi (Lorna Fitzgerald) – could Max be about to kill them in a fit of rage? Yorke added: “This Christmas is going to be a classic EastEnders Christmas – the time of year when EastEnders should be at its very best – and we can’t wait for people to see it.” While Yorke is assumed to be behind the plot structure leading up to Christmas, the soap have also brought back writer Simon Ashdown for the monumental episodes. Ashdown has a poignant connection to the upcoming scenes as not only was he involved with the Branning family’s creation, but was also instrumental in the horrific reveal of Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) and Max’s sordid affair 10 years ago. Yorke said of Ashdown’s reintroduction to Metro: “I’m delighted to welcome one of EastEnders’ greatest writers back to the show. “Simon has delivered some of EastEnders’ biggest moments and I hope people will agree that his Christmas episodes are right up there with his very best work.” Read the full interview in the latest issue of Radio Times magazine, out now. EastEnders continues Tuesday at 7.30pm on BBC One.RELATED STORIES
I got really excited. I thought it was very obviously a strange and really crazy bananas scene. But then I also loved that it was deeply rooted in, really, how screwed up this character in that he’s fabricated this imaginary circumstance for himself to try and find some sort of solid ground, psychologically, and it just all implodes. It’s a fascinating, bizarre and weird scene, and what I love about the show is that when we have these crazy scenes that just seem so insane and nuts, they’re often rooted very deeply in something for the character.
Yeah, very much so. That whole sequence, the cabin sequence, let’s call it, is really pretty messed up. It’s a pretty bizarre thing to go and do. But it’s a lot of fun as well. I watched that scene, and I was like, “Wow, it’s appalling but hysterical.”
TVLINE | What was it like to film opposite yourself?
It’s pretty weird. I did a show in New Zealand where I played twins for six years, so I’m quite familiar with doing scenes with myself. It’s something I’ve done quite a lot of. So I knew what to expect going in and how much more you have to work. We have another actor that’s there, and you’ve got to guide them and direct them through what you want them to do, so that you can repeat and react to things when it flips around. So it’s really complicated and very, very technical, and thank God I had done it for quite a while prior to The Boys, so it went very smoothly. Actually, it was a hell of a lot of fun.
It couldn’t have been more different. It was a comedy drama in New Zealand called Outrageous Fortune. It was popular years and years and years ago, but it turns out all that twin stuff came in handy.
I was not in women’s lingerie that I can remember, but it was a long time ago, like I said. I’d have to check. [Laughs] But I’m pretty sure it was quite different.
I’m not going to lie: I have moments like that all the time, whether it’s just about the general job that I do or whether it’s a specific moment, no more so than when we’ve been making this show. This show has some moments where I’m just scratching my head going, “Wow, are we really going to do that? Am I actually reading that correctly?” and then I see it on the screen, and I love it.
TVLINE | Do you think it’s a crutch that Homelander still needs Stillwell and needs Doppelganger to pretend to be Stillwell for him?
Yeah. Right off the bat, I saw Homelander as the strongest, physically, and absolutely the weakest character on the show, emotionally and psychologically. … [Without Stillwell], there’s no buffer between him and the corporate giant that is [Vought], and also, there’s no one massaging his ego into place and keeping him, in this bizarre Oedipal way, upright and on an even keel, really. When problems come up, it would’ve been dealt with by Madelyn running interference. He just doesn’t know how to cope. The beginning of Season 2, basically, through to the end, he’s really trying to find some sense of equilibrium again. And that’s in large part because he just disintegrated Madelyn Stillwell’s face. [Laughs]
I remember, on the day, just giving so many different options that just go everywhere. We did some where I laughed hysterically, and then some where I bulged my eyes out, and some where I didn’t know how to react, and I think a lot of that was used. But it’s a very surreal moment of clarity for Homelander when he sees himself and how weak he is and how needy he is. At the same time that he’s disgusted and repulsed by that, there’s also an empathy for himself, for the little boy in him. It’s a very bizarre, surreal moment that we tried to layer a lot into it. I’d have to see it again, but I think most of that came through in, really, quite a demented sort of situation.
Part of this character is he is a little boy. He is a little boy that is going through emotional puberty, maybe, whereby his emotions got cut off very early on in his life, and now he’s reached a point, for whatever reason, where he wants more out of life. Since the beginning of Season 1, he’s been trying to expand and get better and bigger. Maybe he thinks he’s a god and deserves to be elevated to that status in everyone’s eyes. And then the issue is that he just doesn’t know how to cope with some of the things that are coming up and a lot of the effect of the causes he’s created. It’s a bit of a rollercoaster ride for Homelander. The poor old dear has got a lot to learn.
He is, in a sense, the most emotionally vulnerable, neediest, weakest character, one hundred percent, on the show. The eternal dilemma for Homelander is that what he loathes most about himself is his humanity, but that’s also such a strong part of what makes him who he is: that need and that want and that desire to connect with someone or anyone, really. He’s just so isolated. So he’s a whole big bag of contradictions and contrasting ideas. He’s a very, very screwed up dude.

But both parties maintain the split had been months in the making. The Blues hired Trigg in 2014 after he left the same role at Adelaide Football Club that he had held for almost 14 years.
“We’ve been talking for a while regarding tenure, family and so on,” Trigg said. “And while this is an earlier-than-ideal decision by the board to make a move, it’s understood.
“I’m extraordinarily proud of the changes and the strong foundations we’ve made over the past three years.
“We’ve grown financially, the football program is in great shape and we’ve been true to our word in redeveloping the list.
“I have no doubt that a successful era is in front of Carlton.”
Trigg, who served a six-month AFL-imposed ban in 2013 for his part in the Kurt Tippett salary-cap drama, will stay in the job until a replacement is found. Simon Lethlean, after resigning as football boss at the AFL this year amid an infidelity scandal, has been linked to the job.
Diehard Carlton fan, footy commentator and host of Channel Seven’s AFL program The Front Bar Andy Maher was gobsmacked by the way in which Trigg was blindsided.
Footy journalist Caroline Wilson said those in the know at Carlton were aware Trigg was on his way out but the man himself only found out yesterday. She slammed the club’s “appalling” treatment of him.
“My view is the Blues have misled both Lethlean and Trigg. I think they’ve behaved appallingly,” she told Sportsday on 3AW radio.
“People have known for weeks that Trigg was on the way out. He only found out yesterday. I think it’s a terrible way to treat somebody.”
The club thanked Trigg for his contribution in a statement.
“The board credits Steven with driving cultural change across all facets of the club,” president Mark LoGiudice said.
“Steven has worked closely with coach Brendon Bolton, the board and all staff to drive improved results across the entire club. I would personally like to acknowledge this important contribution.
“Steven has guided the club during the rebuilding phase. Our search for a new CEO will focus on finding someone with a strong commercial background who will drive the club to the next level required for success.” Hawthorn also parted ways this week with their chief executive, Tracey Gaudry sacked from the role she had filled for just five months.
Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs are also looking to fill vacant chief executive positions.

Shortly before the infuriating moment, Lauren Branning (played by Jacqueline Jossa) finally accepted her controlling boyfriend Stephen Beale’s (Aaron Sidwell) proposal on the Thursday’s episode of the BBC soap.
Viewers may have been expecting the character’s shock decision to stay in Walford and give up on her dreams of going to New Zealand to be with her ex-boyfriend Peter Beale (Ben Hardy) to be the cliffhanger ending.
But instead, confused fans watched in bemusement as Lauren continued on into the kitchen to take a lasagna out of the oven, just as the iconic ending music began.
Outraged, people couldn’t understand the producers’ decision to end on such an anti-climactic image.
Taking to Twitter in disbelief, one viewer exclaimed: “YOU CAN’T DOOF DOOF ON A F***ING PASTA BAKE, YOU CRETINS #eastenders,” while another complained: “What an appalling and boring duff duff ending 2nite! #Eastenders” [sic].
A third person agreed: “Lauren taking a Lasagna out of the oven was a b***dy awful duff duff #Eastenders.”
Some eagle-eyed fans were even more surprised at the faux pas as they remembered the soap’s bosses had used the same device once before.
Denise Fox (Diane Parish) was filmed pouring a packet of dry pasta into an empty pan after a tense stand-off with Carmel Kazemi (Bonnie Langford) – the mother of her dumped boyfriend Kush Kazemi (Davood Ghadami) – but fans were equally unimpressed with the ending.
“Last night in #EastEnders, the lasagna stole the duf duf, while a few months ago, it was the pasta!” one person said after realising the connection.
“So first we had a pasta duff duff now a lasagne duff duff.. What’s next, ice cream? #eastenders,” another fan said in disbelief.
EastEnders continues Monday at 8pm on BBC One.
