Handforth parish councillor Jackie Weaver became an overnight sensation when a virtual parish council meeting spiralled out of control. Weaver had been called in to support the Handforth councillors but chaos quickly ensued when chairman Brian Tolver refused to accept the legitimacy of the meeting. He was kicked out and sent to a virtual waiting room after uttering the now infamous words: “You have no authority here Jackie Weaver”. The parish councillor told BBC Breakfast she’s been overwhelmed by the public support she’s received and is “chuffed” to be meeting Strictly Come Dancing’s Anton Du Beke.

Weaver revealed: “This is just between us but I’m so chuffed I’ve been invited to meet on the screen Anton Du Beke on Monday. That has just made my world.”

“What a special moment that’s going to be,” Charlie Stayt remarked. “Fancy that.”

“Oh it will be,” Weaver replied. “For me anyway.”

“Jackie Weaver for Strictly,” Rachel Burden interjected. “Come on!”

“You can see it now, can’t you? Is that on the cards Jackie?” Stayt asked.

The parish councillor chuckled and replied: “I just want to look at him.”

“Can I just ask one thing Jackie?” Stayt asked. “Have things calmed down because we’re all laughing about it and we’re on the outside. But are there people still angry? How has it settled?”

“It hasn’t settled yet because clearly we’re in the middle a whirlwind, everybody involved in the parish council will be,” Weaver responded.

“I really am impressed with your use of the eject button [on your computer] good work,” Burden commented.

“And the Strictly thing that’s a tick is it? That’s definitely a possible, have I got that right?” Stayt asked.

“No just totally as a passenger there I just want to look at him that’ll do,” Weaver replied.

“See how we didn’t interrupt you or tried not to anyway, we’re always excused of interrupting people. Did we do okay?” Stayt asked.

“You absolutely nailed it,” the parish councillor remarked.

Bookmakers Coral have backed Weaver at 10-1 to be on Strictly when the BBC show returns later this year.

Coral’s John Hill said: “Jackie Weaver has become an internet sensation overnight. She is now being backed to be on the Strictly dance floor later this year.

“Weaver acted with great authority in her parish council meeting and maybe she will be a great asset on I’m A Celeb in 2021. We are not ruling out an appearance in the jungle.”

BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am.

Anton du Beke’s former Strictly partner feared ‘heart attack and severe nausea’ on series https://briefnews.eu/anton-du-bekes-former-strictly-partner-feared-heart-attack-and-severe-nausea-on-series/ https://briefnews.eu/anton-du-bekes-former-strictly-partner-feared-heart-attack-and-severe-nausea-on-series/#respond Wed, 06 Jan 2021 15:51:11 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/anton-du-bekes-former-strictly-partner-feared-heart-attack-and-severe-nausea-on-series/

Judy Murray, 61, took part in the 12th series of Strictly Come Dancing and was partnered with professional dancer Anton Du Beke, with the pair making it to week eight of the competition. Despite often placing at the bottom of the leaderboard, the tennis coach was saved each week by the public vote and the judges. Looking back at her time on the BBC competition, Judy has revealed she had the same “heart attack and severe nausea” feeling taking part as she did watching her sons play tennis.

Judy is a regular in the crowd as she watches sons Jamie, 34, and Andy, 33, play tennis.

The tennis coach explained it is often “torture” watching her sons play for over three to four hours, and tried to remind herself she only had to dance for a minute and a half on Strictly Come Dancing.

However, it wasn’t enough to stop her fearing she would fall over or trip up and embarrass herself.

She remarked: “I always describe watching Andy and Jamie as a mixture of a heart attack and severe nausea all going on at the same time.

“For me it was the same kind of feeling just before you walked down those steps at Strictly at the Elstree studios.

“That dread of doing something brand new to you and you’re terrified you’re going to forget your routine.”

Anton’s former dance partner told the Talent Takes Practice podcast: “I was terrified I was going to trip because you’re in heels and I’m never in heels.

“I kept telling myself it’s 90 seconds. You’ve been training all week, trust yourself. It only lasts that long.”

The 2020 series saw Bruno share his thoughts on the celebrity dances with a weekly round up via video link as he was unable to leave the US.

As well as judging on Strictly, Bruno also appears on Dancing with the Stars, and chose to stay Stateside amidst the pandemic.

An insider explained it is “very unlikely” the BBC will choose to include Bruno in the show in a similar way later this year.

They told Mail on Sunday: “This time last year Bruno had been signed up but things are so much less certain now.

Anton du Beke ‘to replace’ Motsi Mabuse on Strictly Come Dancing after judge pulls out https://briefnews.eu/anton-du-beke-to-replace-motsi-mabuse-on-strictly-come-dancing-after-judge-pulls-out/ https://briefnews.eu/anton-du-beke-to-replace-motsi-mabuse-on-strictly-come-dancing-after-judge-pulls-out/#respond Fri, 13 Nov 2020 09:33:40 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/anton-du-beke-to-replace-motsi-mabuse-on-strictly-come-dancing-after-judge-pulls-out/

During Friday’s edition of Good Morning Britain, hosts Ben Shephard, 45, and Kate Garraway, 53, discussed the likelihood of Anton becoming a judge.

With Nicola Adams, 38, and Katya Jones, 31, also pulling out of the show after the latter tested positive for COVID-19, the journalists discussed bringing back Jacqui into the competition which could be a challenge as her professional partner is reported to be replacing Motsi.

As Kate explained this to her co-star, he said the judge who is self-isolating could still offer a critique from home.

“They’re not going to get Anton to sit at the desk because they would have got Anton to do it by now,” the Tipping Point star remarked.

Anton Du Beke’s appearance leaves Saturday Kitchen viewers distracted https://briefnews.eu/anton-du-bekes-appearance-leaves-saturday-kitchen-viewers-distracted/ https://briefnews.eu/anton-du-bekes-appearance-leaves-saturday-kitchen-viewers-distracted/#respond Sat, 21 Mar 2020 13:21:27 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/anton-du-bekes-appearance-leaves-saturday-kitchen-viewers-distracted/

Viewers had the choice between food heaven, gammon egg and chips or food hell, gammon boulangerie with fennel.

They went for the food heaven, and Anton was overjoyed as Matt cooked him gammon, egg, and chips.

As he cooked, Anton joked that Matt should definitely sign up for Strictly Come Dancing, but he would have to work out which of his two feet was the left one.

Wine expert Helen McGinn told Matt right at the end of the show: “Your wife has just messaged into the show, and she really doesn’t want you doing Strictly.”

Saturday Kitchen Live continues on BBC One on Saturday at 10am.

Strictly Come Dancing: Anton says ‘I’m going nowhere. Anton, the only surviving Strictly Come Dancing pro from its first series in 2004, said he had not spoken to bosses about leaving. Rumours surfaced minutes after Saturday’s grand finale, in which he appeared alongside EastEnders actress Emma Barton, 42.  But he told ITV’s Lorraine breakfast show yesterday: “It’s absolute nonsense – made up before we had left the building.

“It’s hilarious. I can’t leave, ever. Never. I’m still there.”

Anton also revealed he dyed his hair and, for the first time, put on a spray tan from the shoulders up, before his finale appearance.

He said: “Do you know what? I think it worked. It was my first spray tan.”

Father-of-two Anton, the oldest pro dancer on the show, is one of the show’s most popular stars despite never having lifted the coveted Glitterball trophy.

He has twice been overlooked to join the prestigious judging panel and his time on Strictly has been synonymous for his pairings with ballroom strugglers,
including Lesley Joseph, 74, Daily Express columnist Ann Widdecombe, 72, Fiona Fullerton, 63, and Judy Murray, 60.

Apart from this year’s appearance with Emma, Anton has made the showpiece finale only once, partnering newsreader Katie Derham, 49, in 2015 – but they failed to snatch the trophy.

Fans of the show believed Anton had a great chance at taking home the Glitter Ball, but when he didn’t viewers instantly began speculating over whether he would quit the competition.

This morning Anton appeared on Lorraine to discuss the show’s final episode of the year, and address the claims he would be leaving the show.

Presenter Lorraine Kelly asked the ballroom star about his time on the show, and instantly responded: “Absolute nonsense!

“Made up. Made up before we left the building. Nonsense.”

Strictly 2019: Anton Du Beke to quit show after 15 years as he looks for new challenge? https://briefnews.eu/strictly-2019-anton-du-beke-to-quit-show-after-15-years-as-he-looks-for-new-challenge/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-2019-anton-du-beke-to-quit-show-after-15-years-as-he-looks-for-new-challenge/#respond Sun, 15 Dec 2019 16:46:14 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-2019-anton-du-beke-to-quit-show-after-15-years-as-he-looks-for-new-challenge/

Anton Du Beke has been a family favourite on Strictly for the past 15 years but has never won the BBC show, and so after getting his partner EastEnders’ actor Emma Barton to this year’s final, the dancer has reportedly had enough and is said to be looking for new adventures. Anton and Emma were the second favourites to win last night after Kelvin and Oti, but their dances fell short against the Emmerdale star.

Anton, 53, is said to have warned bosses that his time on Strictly could be coming to an end.

After 17 series of the show, and never being able to lift that trophy, the dancer has reportedly had enough.

Last night saw Anton and Emma perform three of their best dancers including the Charleston, the Viennese Waltz and their show dance.

There were many tears throughout the evening, but it seems the pro-dancer has been planning his exit for a while.

A source told The Star: “Anton absolutely loves being part of Strictly, but he’s been thinking about moving on for a while now.

“Earlier this year he had a chat with the show’s executive producers and explained how he was feeling.”

Anton wants to leave on a high, and now could be the perfect time after reaching the final of this year’s competition.

The pair had the viewers backing throughout the series, but when it came down to it Kelvin was just stronger on the night.

Strictly Come Dancing pro-dancers have to sign a year-long contract, so it’s not been confirmed yet whether Anton has signed his.

Anton recently spoke to Good Housekeeping about how he felt to get into the final.

He said: “This is beyond exciting. I can’t even tell you what it feels like, I wish I could remember what it felt like last time, the only time.”

Anton added: “For me, the whole experience has been wonderful but most of all I’ve enjoyed Emma’s love of doing the show, that’s been the best thing for me. To make the final is a joy.”

But maybe the viewers have had enough too? Last night viewers hit out at the judges for underscoring Anton and Emma.

One wrote: “Nine Craig for Emma oh come on! #StrictlyFinal.”

“What?! Emma gets a nine from Craig?! #BBCStrictly #Strictly,” another added.

One said: “So Karim trips and gets a 40, but Emma only gets 39. So much bias it’s unreal #StrictlyFinal.” Said a third.

So what’s the future for Anton Du Beke? Are we ready to let him go yet? And can we expect to see him on our screens again soon?

Express.co.uk has contacted a spokesperson for Anton Du Beke asking for comment.

Strictly Come Dancing is heading into musicals week as the contestants take on the 11th stage of the competition. The end is near and while the celebrities have been training hard, the pros have also been working on something rather special for their opening performance.

In true musical style, the celebrities partner’s will be dancing to the iconic Hello Dolly, on the BBC show.

And, Kevin Clifton and Anton Du Beke will not just be showing off their dancing techniques – but they’ll be singing too!

On Thursday night’s instalment of It Takes Two with Zoe Ball, the host gave viewers a sneak preview of what’s to come on Saturday night’s live show.

Zoe herself looked pretty excited as she introduced the footage, unable to hide a cheeky grin as she said: “Oo, it’s good!”

The video opened with Anton singing before Kevin came in with a louder note.

“Easy tiger,” Anton rolled his eyes as Kevin giggled.

Olivier award-winning choreographer Bill Deamer, has been putting the pros through their paces this week as they train for his “biggest” musical ever done on a Strictly live show.

“This is one of the biggest musicals I’ve ever worked on on Strictly,” he admitted.

“I’ve done quite a few, but this is huge.”

And, it seems the pros think the same.

“This has to be the most complex of dances we’ve done on Strictly in terms of steps and timings,” Aljaž Škorjanec confessed.

“There is so much going on in this routine,” Luba Mushtuk added.

However it seems like Anton has a little more work do before the big performance, that’s in less than two days.

“You’re going to sort of teach me a few things and show me the world,” Kevin suggested to his singing counterpart.

Taking his partners words seriously, Anton began singing the opening of their duet: “Out there,” he sang before stopping.

“What’s out there?” Kevin listened intently while they both looked out into the distance, pretending they were acting in the West End.

There was as short pause before Anton confessed: “I don’t know, I can’t remember the second line.”

Kevin roared with laughter as his fellow dancer looked worriedly into the camera lens.

Hopefully he’ll have learnt the tune by Saturday!

But we are yet to find out who will play the main character, Dolly, in the musical tribute, as Bill is keeping it very much under wraps until the weekend.

“I’ve always had a vision of doing Hello Dolly on Strictly,” he said.

“The question is, who’s going to be Dolly in our version? I’m not telling you!”

Well, viewers don’t have long to wait as the big performance is only a matter of hours away!

“I’ve watched every show but the last one because I don’t think I would’ve been able to hold it together,” Saffron explained.

“So, I just haven’t been able to watch yet,” she reiterated, before admitting her exit had been an “emotional rollercoaster”.

“I think when you spend 10 weeks doing something and when you’re in a TV show, it’s like you’re entire life is a TV show.

“There’s no normal life behind it. I spent every day for 10 to 12 hours with AJ just dancing for 10 weeks straight,” the social media star continued.

Strictly Come Dancing 2019: Anton Du Beke makes dig at BBC over previous partners https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2019-anton-du-beke-makes-dig-at-bbc-over-previous-partners/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2019-anton-du-beke-makes-dig-at-bbc-over-previous-partners/#respond Mon, 18 Nov 2019 03:01:33 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2019-anton-du-beke-makes-dig-at-bbc-over-previous-partners/

Strictly Come Dancing is slowly but surely crossing celeb after celeb off the leaderboard as the final looms ever closer. But on Saturday’s show, one professional dancer had more to be thankful for than just making it though another week.

And, to say he was ecstatic would be an under statement.

On the floor with his head in his heads, he struggled to compose himself as Emma looked bewildered when Claudia Winkleman revealed she had helped him reach a big goal.

“17 series, you don’t understand!” He said, cradling Claudia’s head as she was trying to read out their voting number.

“This is how Kevin Clifton feels, it’s lovely!”

He joked as the audience and his fellow contestants roared with laughter, patting him on the back and congratulating the pair for their score.

And, their dance seemed a hit at home as well for viewers as they were voted to stay on Sunday’s results show.

In an interview on the sofa, they chatted with Claudia about how they felt to receive two of the highest marks.

“I never thought, ever, that as Emma Barton, I would be getting a 10 in Strictly Come Dancing,” she said, not believing the scores from the day before.

“I’m so grateful I was just so pleased for him because this is what I wanted to achieve for Anton, the King of Ballroom, at the home of ballroom,” she beamed at her partner.

Claudia said to Anton: “Anton Du Beke, your first 10s on Strictly Come Dancing,” she began before he interrupted.

“Can I bask for just a second,” he smiled as he gazed up at the ceiling.

“Thank you, thank you so much,” he said to Emma.

“When Pasha Kovalev left Strictly Come Dancing last year, he announced he’d had 93 10s in eight years,” the pro revealed as the ballroom erupted with laughter.

“I’ve got 91 to go! I don’t know whether I’ve got the years left but it’s a start!”, he joked.

The sly dig comes as the BBC dancer has previously been put with slightly older celebrities.

He described being partnered with Emma as “an absolute dream” in an interview with the Radio Times.

He said ahead of the show: “I’m very excited about this one. Emma’s tall, gorgeous and talented.

“She’s an absolute dream and, I’ve got to be honest, younger than I’m used to. And she’s got her own teeth. That’ll do for me.”

Saturday’s performance was the highest score he had ever received on the show in the 17 years he’s been dancing on it and it definitely came as a shock.

Hopefully the couple can keep up momentum next week and blow the judges away once again – maybe even persuading Craig to hold up his number ten paddle board!

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday one BBC One.
