Kevin Hart is out as host of the Oscars in the wake of an escalating backlash involving the actor/comedian’s homophobic social-media history.

“I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s [sic] … because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists,” the actor and comedian said on Twitter late Thursday night. “I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.”

Hart’s announcement came barely an hour after he posted an Instagram video in which he candidly shared, “I just got a call from the Academy, and that call basically said, ‘Kevin, apologize for your tweets of old, or we’re going to have to move on and find another host.’ I chose to pass. I passed on the apology.”

“I’m thankful and I’m appreciative of the opportunity [to host],” he said to the Academy at the end of the video. “If it goes away, no harm, no foul.”

Shortly after Tuesday’s announcement that Hart had been tapped to host the 91st Academy Awards (to be held Feb. 24, 2019), his homophobic twitter past came under new scrutiny. On Thursday, Buzzfeed reported that Hart had begun deleting some of his more offensive tweets, including this one from 2011: “Yo if my son comes home & try’s 2 play with my daughters doll house I’m going 2 break it over his head & say n my voice ‘stop that’s gay.’”

The board game features bloodsuckers, who torture and feed on gay people, and wasn’t long in Russia’s Republic of Chechnya when the Swedish White Wolf company announced that sales of the 200-page explanatory ‘setting’ book, which was only just released, will be “temporarily suspended.”

“The section on Chechnya will be removed in both the print and PDF versions,” they pledged, adding that making these changes would take at least three weeks and would lead to delays in shipping of the product.

White Wolf made headlines earlier this week after media learned that their new ‘Vampires: The Masquerade’ orientation book characterized Russia’s Republic of Chechnya as a haven for vampires.

According to the authors, in the game the undead rule the land through a powerful mafia-like structure, while the Kremlin-backed human leader of the republic, called Sultan Ramzan, is merely their puppet. This puppet, a namesake of the current head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, is described in the game as the pursuer of a lavish lifestyle who feeds his enemies to predators in his personal zoo.

As for the international outrage over the alleged persecution of homosexuals in Chechnya, it’s actually a sophisticated media campaign to distract attention from the very existence of vampires. But it doesn’t mean that the LGBT community is out of harm’s way in the fictional version of Chechnya, as the undead torture, kill and use them as food.

White Wolf acknowledged that this time their imagination led them to the wrong place, saying that “horror should not be afraid to explore difficult or sensitive topics, but it should never do so without understanding who those topics are about and what it means to them.”

“In the Chechnya chapter… we lost sight of this. The result was a chapter that dealt with a real-world, ongoing tragedy in a crude and disrespectful way,” the statement read.

The developers apologized and said that they should’ve filtered the inappropriate content before the book went to print.

The whole scandal has also led to significant changes to the company itself, with the statement informing that “White Wolf will no longer function as a separate entity,” but is to be restructured as part of publisher Paradox.

It was the second time the game developer found itself in hot water in recent months. White Wolf was also accused of drawing inspiration from neo-Nazi and white-supremacist ideology, but has vigorously denied the claims.

Nelson McCausland appeared on the ITV show to shed light on the party since Theresa May announced the Conservatives would be joining forces with the DUP to form a “stable” government. 

However, the DUP’s strict opposition to gay marriage and abortion have become a cause of concern for both those who voted for and against the Prime Minister during her snap election last week. 

Mr McCausland insisted there were members of the Conservative Party who share his controversial views, which didn’t sit well with Piers Morgan, 51. 

“Can you name a single member of Parliament who said they’re repulsed by gay men?” he groaned. 

Mr McCausland fired back: “You picked my up comments wrong, there’s Conservatives who voted against reformation of marriage.”

Morgan hissed: “There are concerns the Prime Minister will accost these views in terms of gay treatment.”

Susanna Reid, 46, chipped in: “Same-sex marriage in Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK where it is still outlawed, it feels like you’re rather behind the times in this issue which Conservatives have lead on.”

“That’s the nature of devolution,” Mr McCausland smirked. “Scotland can do things their way, Wales can do things their way and it’s the same in Northern Ireland.” 

Reid probed: “So that will not change? That will remain outlawed in Northern Ireland?”

“That is the position of the party,” Mr McCausland stressed. “When discussions with the DUP and Conservatives take place, these are discuss that won’t be on the agenda; it’s just you folks who have a fixation on this.” 

“When you say we have a fixation, studying your record, you’re a climate change denier, you think homosexuality…” Morgan reeled off, until his opposition tried to interrupt.

“Let me finish,” the GMB host snapped. “You think homosexuality is wrong, a creationist and anti-abortion, many views held by DUP are in issue people have and Theresa May is relying solely on their support – to me that seems quite a pertinent issue.”

Mr McCausland clarified his stance on gay marriage: “My personal view is the biblical position, which is the relationship between men and women should be within marriage.

“I think the current law in Northern Ireland is the right law, these are not matters even being discussed by Theresa May. Let’s move on.”

Viewers were just as skeptical as Piers and Susanna, with one posting: “At a time when this country should be united our prime minister wants to destroy it. Hearing this former DUP member on @GMB gives me fear,” which was followed by: “Urrrgghhh @GMB who is this nasty old fossil?  Outdated ridiculous views! Pray for our UK! #dup #scarylittleman #nelsonmacausland.”

A third cried: “#NelsonMcCausland former #DUP Your Views are disgusting ! Well done @piersmorgan for putting this fool straight !! #GMB.”
