Gina Miller was accused of trying to conceal the genuine motive behind her attempts to take Brexit to court, in a tense clash on ITV‘s Loose Women. The anti-Brexit campaigner was confronted with the claim that she was “clearly a Remainer”. Loose Women panellist Jane Moore said that her Remainer allegiances made her court battles over Brexit partisan. 

Ms Miller was confronted with her previous claim that the result of the 2016 referendum had made her “physically sick”. 

Moore told the lawyer and campaigner: “There are so many things with Parliament that you could have gone to court over.

“John Major prorogued Parliament, so on, so on. So, why this? The argument with you, is that when the Brexit vote came through, it made you feel physically sick.

“So, everyone goes you’re clearly a Remainer, and you’re trying to stop the Brexit vote.”

Ms Miller responded: “I didn’t stop the Brexit vote, because the MPs voted to pass Article 50 – even though I wish they had debated it first.”

The investment manager shot to fame in 2016 for ensuring MPs had a vote on triggering Article 50.

She took the Govenrment to court to force them to give MPs a vote on invoking Article 50 and triggering the Brexit process.

She told ITV: “It is what it says in the law. All the other member-states would say, you did that illegally. We won’t trade with you now, we won’t deal with you.”

Jane Moore interrupted: “But that wouldn’t happen would it? Germany would never say, we are not going to sell you cars?”

Moore added: “You have got 17.4 million who knew exactly what they voted for, who knew what leave meant.

“Three and a half years later, we have politicians bickering over the finer points.”

Ms Miller also responded to the news that Jeremy Corbyn had decided to back an early election.

Mr Corbyn told reporters that he was “totally determined” to win it after deciding that the threat of a no deal Brexit was “off the table”.

When the news broke during Loose Women, Ms Miller instantly responded: “Finally!”

In September, Ms Miller won a landmark Supreme Court case establishing that Boris Johnson’s suspension of Parliament was unlawful.

Thousands of protesters are descending on Westminster for what organizers claim is the “biggest, loudest and most important” anti-Brexit demo since the vote. They insist Brexit is taking the UK to a “future nobody voted for.”

The participants, mainly young activists, of the so-called “March For the Future” gathered at Park Lane in the British capital at noon. They will march to Parliament Square, where they will hear speeches in support of a people’s vote.

“The Brexit elite can’t sort out this mess – only you can: Demand a people’s vote.” This is the ambitious message conveyed by the People’s Vote campaign group on its website. It insists that Brexit negotiations are taking British people towards “a future that nobody voted for.”

A petition calling for people to be given a final say on a Brexit deal has already gained almost a million signatures.

Labour MP David Lammy took to Twitter to support the demonstrators. “Do not let them tell you it is not possible to stop Brexit. We can do it,” he told his followers. 

According to Labour’s Andrew Adonis, Brexit is “becoming a dog’s dinner.” “It’s a mess that nobody voted for and the reason we’re in such a growing crisis is that those cheerleading for Brexit know the promises they made can never be kept,” he stated. Adonis has already arrived in the center of London to join the rally.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan joined the demonstrators in the heart of the capital. He earlier vowed that the protest would be a “historic moment in [British] democracy.” 

In July this year, Theresa May managed to negotiate the controversial Brexit plan, which is also known as the Chequers deal, during a marathon session of talks with her cabinet. The strategy, which defines the relationship between the UK and EU after Brexit, divided both Westminster and general public. The UK is scheduled to leave the bloc in March 2019, according to Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty.

Former foreign secretary Boris Johnson once called May’s Brexit plan “a suicide vest” that is wrapped around the British constitution, adding that the detonator had been handed to Brussels.

O’Leary insists passengers will be entitled to refunds in this instance, but not any flight compensation.

He said: “As long as we cancel flights as much as four weeks in advance of the date of departure, you clearly have to give people a full refund, but they don’t have any compensation entitlements.

“The real challenge for airlines is that period through to September, October, November, when the s*** will be hitting the fan all over the place.

“We don’t have certainty and we have to make sure our aircraft are on sale somewhere where we at least know they’ll be able to fly.”

If no agreement is struck by September 2018, Ryanair plans to cancel any booked flights beyond April 2019 when Brexit has been finalised.

Mr O’Leary said: “We will be taking flights that are scheduled from the UK to Europe and are on sale on our website for April 2019, we will be taking those flights off sale and issuing refunds.

“We’ll be putting those flights on sale between EU airports, Ireland to Spain; Germany to Italy; Greece to Scandinavia. We won’t be the only ones, everybody will be doing the same thing.

“That’s when you’ll have the Department for Transport or maybe even Boris Johnson explaining how exactly people are going to be going on holidays to Europe in summer 2019.”

The Government insists it is “committed to getting the best deal possible” for UK aviation in a post-Brexit world.

A spokesperson told Express.co.uk: ”Aviation is absolutely crucial to the UK’s economy and we are committed to getting the right deal for Britain.

“Our aviation industry is the largest in Europe, and both we and the EU benefit from the connectivity it provides.

“That’s why we are pursuing liberal access to European aviation markets – including all the benefits that brings for consumers.”

Rural English seats have long been considered safe Tory terrain. But in the southwest constituency of East Devon, one pro-EU independent could be about to challenge that complacent assumption.

Claire Wright, who has run a lively campaign against Brexit and cuts to the National Health Service (NHS), has invigorated the political debate in this oft-neglected corner of the country.

A recent YouGov poll indicates that despite the aging and wealthy demographic, normally inclined to vote Tory, Wright now has a serious chance of unseating Conservative MP Hugo Swire, who has held the seat since 1997.

Swire could be considered the archetypal Tory. Educated at Eton, he is the descendant of multi-billionaire textile barons, a former Guards officer and a former Foreign Office minister who was knighted in 2016.

His emerging rival appears to be rather closer to the grassroots.

Responding to the poll, Swire seemed confident he would retain his seat.

“Claire has fought an energetic campaign and that is to her credit. But the poll that her team cite has been largely discredited in the media because of its methodology,” he told the Exmouth Journal.

“I know it’s a cliché to say it, but it’s true: the only poll that counts is the one on polling day.”

Swire’s complacency could be his undoing. It’s a lesson he arguably should have learned in the 2015 election when Wright came second with 24 percent of the vote.

Wright claims that in recent hustings “people were queuing up to shake my hand, and telling me ‘you’re the only person who has bothered to try to win my vote.’”

The 41-year-old, who previously served as a local councillor, has won the endorsement of the Best for Britain campaign, which aims to get as many pro-EU candidates elected as possible to prevent a hard Brexit.

She has also earned a personal endorsement from Gina Miller, the woman behind Best for Britain and a Supreme Court challenge to the government’s plan to trigger Brexit negotiations without first consulting Parliament.

“I’m delighted to receive this endorsement, which raises my campaign to a whole new level. It’s exciting and humbling to be named alongside experienced national politicians,” Wright said.

“I firmly believe in the democratic right for MPs to be able to properly debate and meaningfully vote on any Brexit deal.

“Again and again I’ve heard from people who are so fed up with the divisive nature of our politics. I’m proud to be an independent and to fight for Parliament to have a say on any Brexit deal.”

Wright has also won celebrity endorsement. Booker Prize-winning novelist Hilary Mantel said: “Don’t waste your vote, give it to Claire Wright: trust a candidate with a clear vision for our unique part of England.”

Wright and her team claim Labour and Green Party supporters have put aside their differences to lobby for her.

They also claim to have motivated apathetic voters who normally spurn polling day.

“There are disenchanted Conservatives, angry that their man did not bother to attend hustings, showing their support,” Wright claimed.

“But more importantly, people who’ve never voted before, young voters, people who abstained last time, are realizing they can be part of a quiet revolution right here in Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth.

“We’re demonstrating a new way of doing politics that responds to local people and seeks consensus rather than confrontation,” she said.

Posted 42 weeks ago – the week of the referendum – the image shows a crowd holding up pro-EU placards.

Meghan captioned the post: “If EU leave me now…#brexit #parliament #referendum #London”.

The now-girlfriend of Prince Harry was on a trip to London that week, before her relationship with the prince, and posted several photos of her holiday to Instagram.

Her followers were quick to comment on the post, and one wrote: “Go do something useful for your community instead of this useless protest.”

Another said: “Leave the British alone. Let them work out their issues.”

One wrote: “It’s called democracy. We voted, remain lost.. move on. Please.”

Meghan’s sharing of her views on British politics could cause friction with the Royal Family as, usually, they remain neutral on political matters and certainly do not share any personal views in a public forum.

It is not just Brexit Ms Markle has commented on – she has also been a strong critic of Donald Trump.

Appearing on the Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore on May 4th 2016, the Suits actress said she would move to Canada if Trump – who was then campaigning for the presidency – got into the White House.

She said: “It’s really the moment I go, we film Suits in Toronto and I might just stay in Canada.

“If that is really the reality we are talking about then that is a game changer in terms of how we move in the world here.”

She went on to say it was “crazy” Trump’s offensive comments did not have an effect on his supporters.

She added: “Yes of course Trump is divisive, think about female voters alone, right? I think it was in 2012 the Republican Party lost the female vote by 12 points, that is a huge number and with as misogynistic as Trump is, and so vocal about it, that is a huge chunk of it.”

Thousands of protesters took to the streets of London in a “Unite for Europe” march to protest Britain leaving the EU.

Waving the blue-and-yellow EU flags, demonstrators gathered at Park Lane in central London at around 11am on Saturday before marching to Parliament Square, where a mass rally took place.

The march was organized by Unite for Europe, which describes itself as “a national umbrella group of Remain campaigners.”

“We are the 48 percent who voted against Brexit and those who were not allowed to vote against it – the young and the EU nationals living, working and paying taxes in the UK. We are outraged by the government’s current direction in dealing with the result of the referendum,” reads the description on the event’s website.

Between 25,000 and 100,000 people attended the march, according to the London Evening Standard. Among them were members of “The Three Million,” a group which supports the rights of EU citizens living in the UK.

Security in London had been heightened since the Westminster terrorist attack on Wednesday, and the Metropolitan Police announced that extra officers had been put on duty.

A minute’s silence was observed on Parliament Square for the four people killed in Wednesday’s attack, and some people took the opportunity to leave flowers at the site.

A smaller protest also took place in the Scottish capital, Edinburgh.

Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to trigger Article 50 of the treaty on the European Union on Wednesday, formally beginning negotiations to exit the 28-nation bloc that are expected to last two years. The decision to leave the EU, or Brexit, was made after a referendum of June 23 last year following a heated public campaign.

The march in London was held on the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, signed in 1957 by six countries – Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, West Germany and the Netherlands – setting up the European Economic Community (EEC), which later gave rise to the European Union in 1991. In the Italian capital, however, thousands of protesters have taken to the streets to rally against the EU.

Tonight’s instalment featured interviews with farmers, who expressed their concerns about the possible impact of last year’s referendum result on overseas workers coming to work on British farms.

Many people took to social media to hit out at Countryfile for the story, which was fronted by presenter and farmer Adam Henson.

One disgruntled audience member posted: “Used to love #countryfile, but getting proper sick of every other article being speculation on BREXIT & what it ‘could’ mean. #switchingOff.”

While another said sarcastically: “Enough of this. I’m off to write some #countryfile fan-fiction where Adam saves post-Brexit British farming while riding his Super-Mole.”

A third called Countryfile to be axed, saying: “#countryfile Totally biased anti Brexit. Shameful use of my BBC licence money. Needs to be scrapped now.”

However, there were others who praised the feature as one person tweeted: “So many deluded Brexiteers moaning about a well balanced piece on @BBCCountryfile. If the facts and truth hurt.. #countryfile.”

“Brexiters getting into a terrible paddy over #countryfile reporting problems farmers may face with seasonal labour due to #brexit,” said a second. 

Adam, 51, spoke to Herefordshire soft fruit grower Anthony Snell, who employs foreign workers. The presenter was heard telling viewers: “It is a British success story which could be derailed if migration restrictions are introduced.”  

The soft fruit grower explained: “This isn’t anything to do with migration or immigration, this is just seasonal workers coming over here, working hard, benefiting our economy and then going home.”

When asked by the BBC host whether an operation on this scale could be possible without these workers, the farmer said: “There is absolutely no doubt we’d be in serious trouble if we didn’t have our seasonal workers coming here. 

“We would be out of business. It would be absolutely catastrophic to our industry.”

Britain employs around 75,000 seasonal workers with half of those coming from abroad. 

Countryfile came under recently after Adam did another Brexit feature which saw him visit Spain.
