Wes Anderson is a director whose films all reflect his specific style. They feature the same unique shot compositions, thematic messaging, and a dose of whimsy. Some people criticize Anderson for this, saying he isn’t capable of making a movie any different than all his others. But in a world where mainstream American movies are becoming more homogenous and visually uninteresting, it’s refreshing to see a talented director who leaves his own personal signature on every one of his movies. Not every director needs to direct in the Marvel house style, and I’d rather see the vision of one person reflected over and over again than the vision of a conglomerate.
With such films as “The Royal Tenenbaums,” “Moonrise Kingdom,” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel” under his belt, all reflective of his unique directing style, one can’t dispute the fact that Wes Anderson’s style tends to produce fun, funny movies that are beautifully shot.
Edward Norton agrees with me. (What a sentence to write.) Norton, who has appeared in every single one of Anderson’s films since his Anderson cinematic universe debut as Scout Master Ward in “Moonrise Kingdom,” is clearly a huge fan of working with the filmmaker. But what is it about Anderson’s movies that keeps Norton coming back? According to an interview with NPR in 2014, Norton loves the whimsy and messages about family.

Edward Norton spent his time honing his craft and performing in off-Broadway productions until he was discovered in 1995. It was then he was cast for the film “Primal Fear,” based on the novel of the same name. His performance as an altar boy accused of murdering a Catholic archbishop received critical acclaim and set him on a rocket ship to stardom. He would go on to star in such films as “Fight Club,” “American History X,” and “The Incredible Hulk” (which he actually wrote the screenplay for), all before finally linking up with Wes Anderson for “Moonrise Kingdom.”
Since he began working with Anderson, Norton has appeared in every one of the director’s films, in small parts and large. Norton said in his NPR interview that it’s the movies’ combination of humor and emotion that always get him. “This sort of whimsy and the incredible humor and everything, but there’s always these moments of, like, pathos that come in and sideswipe you,” said Norton. “And every time I watch the ‘Royal Tenenbaums’ I’m laughing and laughing, and then for whatever reason, as soon as there’s that scene where he releases the falcon or the hawk over the city and they play that Velvet Underground song, I tear up every single time I watch the movie at that point.”

It’s not just a respect of Anderson’s skill for filmmaking. Norton has a special appreciation for some of the common themes of Anderson’s work, which include those of found family and self-discovery. “I’ve come to think that a lot of Wes’s movies are about the same thing, which is maybe people struggling with the way that the family that you’re born into fails you or you don’t have the family that you sort of want. And so you go and create the family that you need, you know,” said Norton. “So many of the characters in Wes’s movies are essentially creating alternative communities that support them. And I think there’s something really sweet in that idea.”
Norton doesn’t act as often as he did back in his heyday in the ’90s, but he still comes out for projects he really believes in (he’ll soon be seen in the ensemble cast of Rian Johnson’s “Knives Out” sequel, “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery“). And with such reverence for Wes Anderson’s approach to filmmaking, it’s only a matter of time until he pops up in the next Anderson movie — maybe as a snooty waiter, or an incompetent grade school teacher. If Anderson builds it, Norton will come.

The validation is out there: Gillian Anderson snagged Best Supporting Actress honors at Sunday’s 78th Annual Golden Globe Awards for her transformative performance as Margaret Thatcher on The Crown.
Anderson beat Crown co-star Helena Bonham Carter as well as Julia Garner (Ozark), Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek) and Cynthia Nixon (Ratched).
“Thank you… to Peter Morgan for imagining that I could inhabit Mrs. T,” Anderson said in her acceptance speech.
“[And] to Peter for writing an exquisitely multi-dimensional character, against the odds.”
Anderson’s win capped a big night for The Crown, which also won best Drama Series, Best Drama Actress for Emma Corrin and Best Drama Actor for Josh O’Connor (see complete winners list).
This is Anderson’s second Golden Globe trophy. She previously picked up Best Lead Actress honors in 1997 for her role as Dana Scully on The X-Files.

Loose Women were keen to get the gossip about her fifth marriage from guest Pamela Anderson who was chatting via video link. While guests usually sit in front of a computer or phone screen for interviews, Pamela, 53, shook things up by conducting the interview from her bed. Lying next to Dan and nuzzling into his neck, Pamela insisted they were so in love and Dan was the type of man she would have married if she’d not left home when she was younger.
While Loose Women panellists Stacey Solomon and Nadia Sawalha loved chatting to Pamela, those are home felt awkward about watching.
Many took to Twitter to ask if they had interrupted Dan and Pamela as they snuggled up together.
One viewer posted: “This is so awkward. Did they catch Pam mid sex session or something #LooseWomen.”
Another asked: “#LooseWomen Pamela Anderson is weird. Oh let’s just go on British national tv from my bed. Looks like we’re disturbing lol.”

“This is very weird… Pamela in bed #LooseWomen,” a third added while another tweeted: “I like Pamela Anderson but this is all just a bit weird #LooseWomen.”
A fifth shared: “Omg this interview I’m cringing so much #LooseWomen.”
Starting the interview, Nadia began: “Pamela, to quote you, you have said in the past ‘in the arms of the man I love is exactly where I should be.’
“I didn’t think we were actually going to see you in the arms of the man you love.”
“So you don’t need the Maldives or Cancun, the best place for a honeymoon is snuggled up in bed,” Nadia continued.
Dan simply replied: “Exactly!” as the panel stared at the couple as they lay in bed.
Later in the interview, Nadia remarked Dan and Pamela were actually staying at a home close to their heart.
“This is actually your grandparents, you bought this house from your grandparents 25 years ago, is that right?” she asked.
One of the biggest couples in Hollywood history is getting the small screen treatment.
Lily James (Downton Abbey) and Sebastian Stan (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) have been cast as Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee in an eight-episode Hulu limited series about the duo’s salacious relationship in the 1990s — including the leak of their private honeymoon video and the legal battle that ensued — our sister site Deadline reports. The series is currently titled, what else, Pam & Tommy.
For those readers too young to appreciate the cultural — or at least pop-cultural — significance of this series, here’s a brief history lesson: Anderson was arguably the biggest sex icon of the ’90s, starring in decade-defining TV shows like Baywatch. And Lee was essentially rock royalty, a founding member of the legendary heavy metal band Mötley Crüe. Their high-profile relationship, which included a marriage after just a few days of officially dating, kept tabloids in business for years. (If your next question is, “What’s a tabloid?” please save it. We feel old enough as it is.)
Seth Rogen, who is producing alongside Evan Goldberg and Dylan Sellers, has also reportedly been cast as the man who stole Anderson and Lee’s honeymoon tape. I, Tonya director Craig Gillespie is also attached. Anderson and Lee are not involved with the limited series, but the former couple is reportedly aware of its production.
Are you down to revisit Anderson and Lee’s tumultuous romance? And do you think James and Stan fit in the title roles? Whatever’s on your mind, drop it in a comment below.

After teasing us with shadowy footage of Gillian Anderson in a recent Season 4 promo, The Crown has unveiled its first real look at Anderson’s portrayal of Margaret Thatcher.
Netflix on Tuesday released four new photos from The Crown‘s upcoming season, which will mark Anderson’s debut as the former prime minister. In the snapshot below, a blue-clad Thatcher smiles and waves to a crowd outside 10 Downing Street, the prime minister’s usual residence and office. British actor Stephen Boxer (Doctors) also appears in the photo as Thatcher’s husband, Denis.
Additionally, Emma Corrin is featured in the new photos as Princess Diana, who is getting photographed as she walks down the street, while other images depict Olivia Colman, Tobias Menzies and Josh O’Connor in their respective roles of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip and Prince Charles.
As previously reported, Season 4 of The Crown will drop on Sunday, Nov. 15. The new episodes will be Colman’s last as the queen before she passes the baton to Imelda Staunton in Seasons 5 and 6. Staunton will be joined by Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread) as Princess Margaret, Jonathan Pryce (Game of Thrones) as Prince Philip and Elizabeth Debicki (The Night Manager), who will succeed Corrin as Princess Diana.

New beginnings began anew on Monday with the premiere of The Hills: New Beginnings, MTV’s long-awaited (and bizarrely edited) revival of its classic reality soap opera.
We entered New Beginnings with two burning questions: First, will any characters discuss The Hills‘ original finale, which revealed the entire series to have been scripted? And perhaps more importantly, how does former O.C. star Mischa Barton fit into this equation? (We also have endless questions about the show’s decision to credit Barton as “introducing,” but those feel like off-camera discussions.)
Monday’s all-over-the-place premiere (titled “I Don’t Hold Grudges… JK!”) answered one of those questions, but like all timeless works of art, it also presented us with a slew of fresh head-scratchers. For example: How did Michael Strahan and Sara Haines wind up hosting this after show?
To sort through all the madness, here’s a rundown of everything we learned in New Beginnings‘ debut hour (and seven minutes):
* Now a divorced single mother, Audrina Patridge has had a “crazy couple of years,” all of which she recapped during a totally organic conversation with Heidi Pratt and Whitney Port on the first night in her new home. (You’ve got to appreciate Audrina’s priorities: This girl hasn’t unpacked a single box, yet she’s already hosting get-togethers with frenemies she hasn’t seen in nearly a decade.)
* Audrina also “can’t shake” her lingering feelings for Justin Bobby (aka the ’90s John Stamos of reality television), which led to an uncomfortable non-date in the first hour. Audrina’s mother, presumably a licensed healthcare professional, advised her daughter to “use, like, 30 condoms” if they decided to have sex.
* Speaking of moms being moms, Pamela Anderson is adorably close with her 23-year-old son Brandon Lee, a childhood friend of Brody Jenner’s. For the record, Brandon doesn’t think of her as a sex symbol. Now, he just thinks of her as someone who “moved to France when Trump got elected and was like, ‘Peace out!’”
* Despite projecting an image of inner peace, noted crystal aficionado Spencer Pratt remains at odds with his sister Stephanie, who has returned to Los Angeles from London (new accent explained!) to repair the bridge of their relationship — which she’ll probably refer to as their “London Bridge,” because she’s British now.
* Speaking of Spencer, he revealed that he would “love to be famous again.” Hold for audience gasps.
* Brody and his “nightmare” wife are having marital problems, none of which have to do with the fact that she shares a name with his father:

* We sort of got an answer to the Mischa Barton of it all. She’s friends with Stephanie. They attended the London Royal Academy of Fake Accents together.
* For a show filmed in 2019, New Beginnings references Perez Hilton a lot.

Anderson Cooper of CNN, Rachel Maddow of MSNBC, and Sean Hannity of Fox News are three of the biggest primetime anchors in media today.
Each anchor and their respective cable news network takes a unique and different angle on the news of the day during primetime programming. As a result, their audiences can come away with different perspectives on what’s happening in the US today.
Because of the role and platform that each host has, all three are able to shape and influence what viewers believe is the most important news in the world.
For a week, we watched all of their shows to compare what news each led their program off with. Here’s how the three primetime cable news anchors opened up their shows every night from September 10-14.
YouTube
Cooper, who frequently opens his 8 p.m. ET show with his “Keeping Them Honest” segment, led off his show discussing the White House’s response to the anonymous op-ed in the New York Times and its search to find out who wrote it.
He also talked about Bob Woodward’s new book, “Fear: Trump in the White House“, and how President Donald Trump and his administration were responding to the book.

Maddow, who comes on the air on MSNBC at 9 p.m. ET, opened up her show discussing the developments on Hurricane Florence. She was the first of the three anchors sampled to discuss the hurricane at the top of her show, and the only one to discuss the storm at the top of the show all five nights that week.
She also talked about: the Republican attempt to set up a confirmation vote for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh later in the week, the Democrats’ attempts to delay the vote, the court proceedings surrounding Russian agent Maria Butina, the White House’s response to Woodward’s forthcoming book, former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos being sentenced to prison for 14 days, and Trump’s expected declassification of Justice Department surveillance documents.

Hannity, who comes on at 9 p.m. ET on Fox News, led off his show with his well-known “Opening Monologue” discussing the Democrats’ desire to impeach Trump if they win back the House of Representatives in the midterm elections this fall.
He also addressed policies Democratic candidates would support if elected to Congress, the impact the midterm elections could have on the Trump agenda, and the alleged bias and corruption of the “deep state” in the Justice Department and FBI toward Trump.

Playboy model-turned-activist Pamela Anderson has described her relationship with Julian Assange as having a “romantic” element, and explained how she bonded with the WikiLeaks founder over vegan food.
Anderson, who garnered global attention in the ‘90s through her modeling career and role in the TV series ‘Baywatch,’ has been a vocal supporter of the WikiLeaks editor. She previously suggested that Assange’s exile in London’s Ecuadorian embassy was tantamount to authorities “trying to kill him.”
Appearing on Fox News OBJECTified, the star lionized Assange as “one of the most important people living,” and praised the Australian for “exposing people to the truth.”
“I brought him some vegan food and now it’s a tradition that I bring him vegan food every time I see him. I see him a lot. I just saw him last week,” she explained.
Asked whether their relationship ever developed into a love affair, Anderson remained coy but did divulge a special connection.
“He’s definitely an interesting person and there is definitely a romantic kind of connection because it’s a romantic struggle. We have this closeness. He’s not close to people like he is to me. I have a real personal relationship with him. He’s just one of my favorite people,” the 51-year old said.

Anderson also discussed her activism on the program. She spelled out that she plans to pay the salaries of 10 activists a year for 10 years.
“It’ll be very diverse – like women’s rights, animal rights and environmental rights. We want to help create career activists – invest in people who are going to be activists no matter what,” she said.
Assange has spent more than 2,200 days at the embassy in the British capital but, with his health reportedly deteriorating, he is expected to leave the building soon.

Love Island contestants are about to experience a big shake-up this evening.
The ITV2 reality show will feature a lie detector test tonight where the girls are allowed to quiz the boys on anything they want.
And it seems for Laura Anderson, she is about to get some things cleared up with ex-flame, Jack Fowler.
Laura Crane is behind the questions, but it seems old Laura had some say in it as well.
As if the whole situation wasn’t awkward enough, old Laura is forced to quiz Jack.
The newcomer admits: “I didn’t realise that Laura was going to be asking Jack the questions. The first thing that was going through my mind was ‘Laura, you idiot.’
“I literally was just melting into the floor. How could you put the poor boy through this?”
But it’s all in a day’s work for old Laura, who is relishing her role as quiz master.
She asks: “Do you still have feelings for old Laura?”
Barely considering it, Jack replies that he doesn’t.
Laura mutters under her breath: “Did you ever?”
And later in the Beach Hut, the comment seems to have played on Jack’s mind.
He explained: “I thought that was a bit of a low blow but whatever.”
But back at the lie detector test, it continues to get more awkward for the ex-lovers.
The blonde beauty asks: “Is new Laura a better kisser than old Laura?”
Jack remains loyal to the surfer and insists he prefers his new squeeze.
But he then turns to old Laura and defends: “I’m not saying you’re not a good kisser.”
New Laura adds: “This isn’t about me, this is about you.”
With the rest of the lie detector throwing everything the Islanders thought into question, will all couples be able to stay together through their biggest test to date?
Love Island continues tonight on ITV2 at 9pm.
Djokovic has finally put his injury woes behind him and is gunning for his fourth title at the All England Club.
The Serbian came through an epic five-set battle with Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals and is now one step away from his 13th Grand Slam title.
Big-serving Anderson is the man who stands in Djokovic’s way, and the South African will be full of confidence, especially after knocking out top seed Roger Federer.
Former world No 1 Djokovic remains the favourite to lift the trophy, but he has played down his chances.
“I don’t know if I’ll be the clear favourite in that one,” he said.
“I think we’re quite even. He’s playing I think his second Grand Slam finals. He played the US Open finals last year.
“He’s definitely playing the tennis of his life. He’s coming off from two epic marathon five-set wins.
“I don’t think he has much to lose really tomorrow. He’s going to come out with big serves and big tennis.
“Hopefully I’ll be able to weather the storm.”
12noon: Good afternoon and welcome to the Wimbledon final!
What a two weeks we have had at the All England Club and it now comes down to Novak Djokovic vs Kevin Anderson.
Both players came through marathon semi-final clashes which lasted over five and a half hours so it will be interesting to see if that takes any toll on the outcome.
Anderson had Saturday to rest while Djokovic continued his battle with Nadal, so that could also play into the hands of the South African, although he is the underdog.
The match will get underway at 2pm so stay tuned for all the build-up, action and reaction direct from Centre Court!
