Fans of Game of Thrones were finally given a proper glimpse of season eight with HBO dropping the highly-anticipated official trailer yesterday (March 5). The two minute and two-second promo provided a wealth of hints about what’s in store and brand new content to analyse. So, what was Arya Stark (played by Maisie Williams) running from at the start? The Game of Thrones season eight official trailer has landed and it hasn’t disappointed. Rich and cinematic, the promo delivered an exciting look at the series, which will contain six feature-length episodes. The longer production period is immediately evident upon watching the trailer. Opening on a shot of Ary’s face, bloodied and panicked, she looks like she’s hiding from someone. Whatever has caused Arya to be so distressed must be serious. Further shots show her running through the corridors of Winterfell, her face is badly cut. Her voiceover from presumably an earlier point in the series is played over the opening. “I know death. He’s got many faces,” she says socially. “I look forward to seeing this one,” ends her speech as she is seen holding dragon glass and speaking to someone off-screen. WARNING: This article contains potential spoilers for Game of Thrones season 8 While we obviously don’t know for sure who Arya is running from in the trailer – we can certainly speculate. The most obvious suggestion is that she is perhaps running from a wight or white walker and the shape of whatever is in pursuit of her is lurking in the shadows. But would Arya be that frightened of a wight who she could probably cut down in seconds? It’s more likely a white walker would cause her to be so scared. Fans have taken to Reddit to discuss some possibilities and some of them are very sinister. One Redditor, yastheauthor, wrote: “I feel like that’s definitely a human. Won’t take too much effort for Arya to kill a wight I believe…” Another, jakej1097, theorised: “I think it’s Catelyn, [Stark] (Michelle Fairley) raised by the Night King from the crypts of Winterfell. “She wouldn’t be that scared of any human. Elon Musk has abandoned his effort to take Tesla private, announcing the move in a post on Tesla’s website late on Friday evening.
“Given the feedback I’ve received, it’s apparent that most of Tesla’s existing shareholders believe we are better off as a public company,” Musk wrote. “I knew the process of going private would be challenging, but it’s clear that it would be even more time-consuming and distracting than initially anticipated.”
It’s obvious why Musk was attracted to the idea of taking Tesla private. Private companies are exempt from most of the transparency requirements imposed on public companies, and they tend to face less pressure to meet quarterly earnings targets than public companies. But it was always a bit of a mystery why Musk thought shareholders would want to go along with his plan.

To get a leg up in the investigation in the cold case of the “Golden State Killer” (aka the “East Area Rapist”), authorities recently turned to modern DNA and genealogy analysis tools.
But they didn’t use any of the big-name DNA analysis firms like 23andMe; instead they relied on GEDmatch, a free, open source site run by a small two-man Florida company that just a few years ago was soliciting donations via PayPal.
According to the East Bay Times, which first reported the connection to GEDmatch late Thursday evening, California investigators caught a huge break in the case when they matched DNA from some of the original crime scenes with genetic data that had already been uploaded to GEDmatch. This familial link eventually led authorities to Joseph James DeAngelo, the man authorities have named the chief suspect in the case. To confirm the genetic match, Citrus Heights police physically surveilled him and captured DNA off of something that he had discarded.

THE MAIN LEAD-UPS
HOBARTVILLE STAKES (1400m), Rosehill, February 24
Kementari led home Pierata, D’Argento, Trapeze Artist and Ace High and this quintet renew their rivalry in the Randwick Guineas. Kementari was just too good for his rivals, settling on speed then taking control of the race from the turn to win decisively. Pierata and D’Argento both ran on well, closing on the winner late and they will get their chance over 1600m. Trapeze Artist led and held on well while Ace High held his ground to finish a close fifth. Siege Of Quebec (ninth) and Capital Gain (10th) need to improve considerably to be in the finish on Saturday.
AUSTRALIAN GUINEAS (1600m), Flemington, March 4
Peaceful State is on the quick back-up after running very well for second at Group 1 level in the Australian Guineas at Flemington Saturday. Peaceful State settled midfield following eventual winner Grunt into the race from the turn. Peaceful State loomed up to win at the 100m but Grunt held him off for a narrow win.
THE TRAINERS
Since the Randwick Guineas was introduced in 2006, replacing the Canterbury Guineas (1900m), John Hawkes is the only trainer to win the three-year-old classic twice. Hawkes prepared Mentality in 2007 and last year he was co-trainer with his sons Wayne and Michael of Inference. In Saturday’s Randwick Guineas, the only trainer with a runner to have won the classic is James Cummings, who prepares favourite Kementari. Cummings won the race with Hallowed Crown in 2015.
THE JOCKEYS
There are five jockeys with rides in Saturday’s race who already have their names on the honour roll. Jay Ford (Tangled) won on Hotel Grand (2006), Brad Rawiller (Peaceful Stakes) rode Weekend Hussler (2008), Brenton Avdulla (Kaonic) partnered Ilovethiscity (2011), Hugh Bowman (D’Argento) won on Hallowed Crown (2015) and Christian Reith (Siege Of Quebec) scored on Le Romain (2016).
THE SPEED MAP
Trapeze Artist looks the only leader but given he is a query at 1600m, perhaps he will be ridden more conservatively early. His career-best effort winning the Golden Rose came when he was settled off the speed. If Trapeze Artist does lead, he should be able to control tempo and turn this into a sprint home. If he doesn’t lead, then Condor or perhaps Siege Of Quebec will roll forward and take up the front-running role. Kementari has drawn gate four and should be able to settle just in behind the leaders with the run of the race.
THE FAVOURITES
Favourites won four of the first six renewals of the Randwick Guineas but none have saluted since Ilovethiscity at $ 1.90 in 2011. There has been some boilover results in this race including Metal Bender ($ 21) in 2009 and Le Romain ($ 21) in 2016.
THE SPECIALIST
Kaonic has raced once at Randwick for a very impressive win over the 1600m course in the spring. He is unbeaten in two starts over the “mile”. Ace High, Kementari, Pierata, D’Argento and Tangmere have all won races at Randwick, while Age Of Fire, Sully, Capital Gain and Condor have won at 1600m.
AND THE VERDICT IS …
Kementari unleashed a brilliant burst of acceleration to win the Eskimo Prince Stakes first-up then was ridden upside down in the Hobartville Stakes and still won comfortably. He sat outside the leader then forged clear at Rosehill to win with authority. This talented colt has drawn barrier four, should settle in the front half of the field with the run of the race. It won’t matter to Kementari what the tempo is as this colt relaxes well for jockey Glyn Schofield and his turn of foot is electric. He ticks all the boxes.
Pierata is the danger. He was having his first start in six weeks in the Hobartville Stakes when he came from midfield and took ground off Kementari late when beaten a length into second place. Pierata will be fitter, he has drawn the rails barrier and the 1600m should be ideal. He is the danger.
Kaonic and D’Argento, the Chris Waller-trained duo, are definite chances. Kaonic has been a little disappointing in his two runs back but he is up to his right trip now and can improve sharply. He is over the odds. D’Argento was finishing strongly late for third in the Hobartville and he will also appreciate the extra trip. The stablemates need this race to be run at a solid tempo to have their best chance of winning.
Trapeze Artist is third-up and it is worth remembering his two best wins, the Black Opal Stakes and Golden Rose, have come at the same stage of previous preparations.
Ace High is a dual Group 1 winner and getting out to his right distance range now. Peaceful State comes off a Group 1 placing last week, while Siege Of Quebec, Condor and Tangmere can run competitively at big odds.

A Donkey Kong fansite has removed three high scores from arcade legend Billy Mitchell after an analysis revealed he likely misled the community about playing on real arcade hardware and that he instead submitted emulator gameplay. On Donkey Kong Forum, Mitchell previously held the No. 20 score with 1.062 million points, right behind his long-time rival Steve Wiebe’s 1.064 million. The professional gamer and hot-sauce magnate now has the No. 47 score with his 933,900 result he played in public on an arcade machine in 2004.
Mitchell and Wiebe’s battles over the Donkey Kong high score were the subject of the popular documentary film King of Kong: A Fistful of the Quarters. That movie painted Mitchell as a somewhat villainous character standing in the way of Wiebe’s heroic everyman. Now, that portrayal is starting to seem even more accurate, as it could include dishonesty and even cheating.
“I understand this will not be a popular decision,” Donkey Kong Forum high-score judge Jeremy “Xelnia” Young wrote in his post. “It is not my wish to fracture a community or affect anyone’s personal life. But ultimately, I have to do what I think is right.”
I’ve reached out to Mitchell for a comment on this story, and I’ll update it with any new information.
“I have no grudges or jealousy toward Billy,” Young told GamesBeat. “While we both play DK, we’re not direct competitors so I have nothing to gain by knocking him down the leaderboard. Gaming is a hobby for me and always will be regardless of how this story pans out. Billy’s status in the gaming world (good or bad) doesn’t affect that. It’s important to realize that my motivations here are all about leaderboard and competitive integrity — this isn’t about Billy in particular and trying to knock him down a peg.”
You can read Young’s detailed argument against Mitchell right here. The primary allegation is that Mitchell played his best Donkey Kong games on the Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator (MAME) while maintaining that he was playing on original arcade hardware. The explanation of the evidence is a bit technical, so let me break it down as simply as I can:
Here’s some GIF examples from the breakdown:
See how the ladders render in all at once and then the steel beams blink into existence after that? This is how MAME handles Donkey Kong.
Score chaser Chris Gleed has one of the only direct-feed recording setups for Donkey Kong in the world. See how the entire level gets drawn into the game from left to right? This is how the arcade works.

Now, watch how Mitchell’s footage for this 1.05-million-point run renders in the ladders and then the steel beams just like the MAME version.

Young considers the evidence against Mitchell conclusive when it comes to falsifying his Donkey Kong platform, but he also suggests that cheating isn’t just possible — it’s “likely.”
“While clearly MAME, there is no way to tell exactly how these games were performed,” reads Young’s post. “It’s possible they were recorded in one shot. Given the playstyle in Billy’s videos, it’s more likely that vanilla MAME’s [recording feature] was abused.”
MAME’s INP recording capability enables players to rewind their mistakes, continue playing, and then stitch together a final recording that looks like one, unbroken playthrough. Scorekeepers like Young often do accept results performed on MAME, but they typically require independent, in-person verification or live video on a service like Twitch that shows the game and the player all at the same time.
Mitchell has not verified his score in any of those alternative ways with the exception of a witness by the name of Todd Rogers. If that name is familiar, it’s probably because Rogers just made headlines for a high-score scandal of his own. The scorekeeping website Twin Galaxies revealed this week that it is removing all of Rogers records after an analysis revealed his submitted score of 5.51 seconds in the Atari game Dragster is technically impossible.
Beyond that, Mitchell doesn’t have a lot of proof to back up his claims.
“While many people have seen Billy play in public, there are no known independent, impartial, objective witnesses to any of the The Big 3 WR games,” reads Young’s post. “He has never scored over 1,000,000 in a live venue. Billy claimed the 1.047M was done in front of scores of people, but that he had no access to the inside of the machine…so how did he set up the direct feed? The 1.05 was supposedly done at an actual convention, but Billy was conveniently playing in another room. The 1.062 was done in arcade in Florida, but the only live footage from that day was staged (the Boomer board swap) and shows no evidence of a direct feed setup.”
I asked Young flat out if he thinks Mitchell cheated.
“At the very least he misrepresented a MAME performance as an arcade performance,” he said. “It’s possible to achieve a good score in one attempt and it’s probably impossible to prove how his MAME score was achieved. At minimum: deception. But most likely: cheating. There is a certain crowd of arcade gamers who dislike MAME, and Billy has told people that scores on MAME don’t count, so even if it was a legitimate MAME performance, it would undermine everything he has ever said about public performances and MAME itself.
Getting 1 million points in Donkey Kong is not a common occurrence even for the best players, so it’s not an issue on its own that Mitchell hasn’t performed that particular feat in a public performance. But deliberately misleading judges about hardware along with a lack of verifying evidence is enough, at least for Donkey Kong Forum, to remove his scores.
Of course, a lot has changed in the Donkey Kong community since King of Kong. That movie attracted a wave of new contenders who eventually blew away Mitchell’s and Wiebe’s scores. The current world best is Robbie Lakeman’s 1.230 million points. And Lakeman? He played on an original arcade machine and verified his score by playing it live on video.
But hey, Lakeman’s a Pats fan, so maybe he’s playing with a deflated arcade cabinet?
