“Missed a plane? Lost an election? Blame it on us!” an RT banner at a Moscow airport proclaimed. There were other equally catchy slogans in the same campaign.

At least one person can actually blame RT for missing a flight, according to his comments at a marketing event in Rome this week. The conference was part of the prestigious Promax Awards for Europe’s best advertisers. Steve Kazanjian, the CEO and president of the association organizing the prestigious event, seemed amused by RT’s poking fun at the West.

“I dig that humor. Except the joke was on me, because I missed my flight that day,” he told an audience showing a selfie of himself next to an RT stand at Sheremetyevo International Airport. “That’s me at the airport having missed my flight after having a session with our friends at RT. Can you believe that?”

“If you get to Moscow, lovely time you’ll have there. But if you go the regular way to the airport, give yourself a five-hour time,” Kazanjian suggested.

RT’s #1917LIVE project – a reenactment of the revolutionary year in Russian history through Twitter accounts based on people who lived at the time – won the gold prize for the best Social Media Campaign. Teasers for the project scooped silver in the Special Event Spot category.

Say this for the French: They manage to keep their sense of humor in the face of crisis. First, a massive butter shortage has swept the country this fall. Now much of the country wakes up to find itself with the internet thanks to a power outage that has kneecapped the country’s largest webhost.

Meet OVH, perhaps not a household name around the world, but one of the biggest and most respected webhosts in Europe. This morning, OVH lost power due to an issue with the utility EDF. Here was a statement from the OVH CEO and co-founder:

In case you don’t speak French, here is a useless translation via Twitter/Bing:

“We have a concern of food of SBG1/SBG4. 2 electric EDF arrivals are down (!!) and 2 channels of generators began in default (!). All 4 arrivals elec fuel more room routing. We are all on the problem.”

Haha. Don’t worry. Despite what you may think, the French are not powering their internet using foie gras. In this case, it means power supply and apparently the EDF lines and the backup generators went down.

But OVH is ON IT!

Meantime, #OVHGATE was trending on Twitter this morning as the French amused themselves by contemplating life with most of the internet:

“Thanks, OVH. Thanks to your idiocy, I have to spend my time cleaning my desk. If this continues, I’m going to have to talk to my co-workers.”

A cup of this brew will certainly get you up in the morning. But the Food and Drug Administration is not having it.

The agency announced a second voluntary recall of a coffee product laced with a Viagra-like drug. The latest recall affects the uniquely named “New of Kopi Jantan Tradisional Natural Herbs Coffee” product, distributed by Bestherbs Coffee LLC. As in other cases, the owner of Bestherbs Coffee suspects that a common herbal ingredient used in the coffee was purposefully contaminated to cut down on costs.

President Donald Trump ruffled some feathers on Thursday with his choice of words when describing an overseas military operation.

The comments came when a White House press pool reporter asked Trump if he had personally authorized the deployment of the 21,000-pound bomb that was dropped on an ISIS tunnel complex.

“Everybody knows exactly what happened. What I do is I authorize my military,” Trump said. “We have the greatest military in the world and they’ve done a job as usual. So we have given them total authorization.”

The phrase “my military” stuck out to members of the defense community, some of whom did not appreciate Trump’s use of the possessive pronoun. Chief among them was Leon Panetta, a former defense secretary and CIA director who served under President Barack Obama.

“When it comes to the military, the military belongs to the country. Our defense system belongs to the country. And it’s not the president’s military, it’s the military of the United States of America,” Panetta said on MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews.”

“He has responsibility obviously, as commander in chief, to be able to make decisions with regards to our military. But I think if you ask the men and women in uniform who they are responsible to, I think their answer would be, ‘We’re responsible to the United States of America.'”

Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) popped in for some cheering up after a row with her secret boyfriend Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) and Kate suggested sharing a bottle of white wine with her friend.

The newbie got the bottle from the fridge and placed it on the counter alongside a large glass but viewers noticed one important element was missing.

It appeared she didn’t notice the bottle was actually empty.

Viewers flocked to social media to point out the noticeable gaffe.

One fan said: “£10 for an Empty wine bottle ? That’s expensive #coronationstreet #coronationstreet.”

“@itvcorrie doesn’t look like white to me! She can’t be serving empty bottles her trials not going well,” another concerned viewer wrote.

A third added: “When the new barmaid tries to impress the boss and the first drink she serves is from an empty bottle #coronationstreet #corrie.”

Vermont senator Bernie Sanders said that he was left “amused” by Donald Trump’s inauguration speech. One part which left him particularly baffled was when Trump attacked the establishment in his speech right in front of the Washington elite.

Speaking to host John Dickerson on CBS’ Face the Nation, when asked if he found some common ground with Trump because of his anti-establishment rhetoric, Sanders said that he actually found it pretty facetious that Donald Trump was criticizing the very same people who have not only funded his campaign, but who now also form a large part of his cabinet picks.

“Well, I found it somewhat amusing that Mr. Trump, President Trump, was punching the establishment, but right behind him, sitting in the VIP section, were billionaire after billionaire after billionaire, some of the most powerful people in this country, who over the last 10, 20 years have become much, much richer while the middle class has shrunk.

The Vermont senator said that it was difficult to take Trump seriously on his anti-establishment rhetoric “when billionaires and large corporations are funding many of your inaugural events.”

It appears Sanders’ observations about the new President are not misplaced. Donald Trump campaigned on the premise that he would “drain the swamp” in Washington, essentially referring to his potential efforts to rid Washington of corporate and moneyed interests. A large part of Trump’s supporter base trusted him with not bowing down to lobbying, considering that he was already king of a vast empire. But it now seems like that some of that faith that working-class Americans placed in Trump was ill-judged.

Donald Trump’s cabinet is full of globalists and industrialists who have more money than one-third of America. Politifact rated a statement which pointed out that 17 of Donald Trump’s cabinet picks had more wealth than one-third of Americans “mostly true,” pointing out that their net worth is in excess of $ 6 billion. That is a dangerously wealthy cabinet which contrasts with Trump’s populist tone during the campaign, in which he had promised to work for the working and middle classes of the American public.

Bernie Sanders further noted that if Trump was really serious about working on any of his promises, he would not “throw 20 million working people off of health insurance.” He also argued that the new President wouldn’t cut Medicare and Medicaid if he was not exclusively representing the who’s who of Washington and Wall Street.

“The best thing that Mr. Trump can do right now, today, is to send out a tweet and tell the American people that during the campaign when he said over and over and over again that he would not cut Social Security, cut Medicare, cut Medicaid, tell the American people that he was not lying. That he’s going to keep his word and that they do not have to live in anxiety.”

Meanwhile, Bernie Sanders confessed to being very pleased with seeing so many protesters take to the streets one day after the inauguration. He congratulated the women who had taken part in the march, urging America to move forward.

“Congratulations to the women marching around the world today. We will not go back to the days when women had to risk their lives to end a pregnancy. The decision to have an abortion must remain one for a woman, not the government. And we will not go backward to a time before Planned Parenthood, when millions of women had no access to birth control or cancer screenings. We must go forward to ensure full reproductive justice for all women,” Sanders wrote.
